for some reason the old incubus thread is gone. ah well, here's a new one.
discuss any incubus stuff in here...news, albums, reviews, concerts, etc.
uhm, yeah, the main reason i was looking for the incubus thread was because i just discovered this video that Brandon posted, shortly before christmas, on their site.
it's pretty hilarious and it gives us some info as to what the dudes are doing atm. (as you know, they're on a hiatus).
just go to http://www.enjoyincubus.com/ and let the page load the video. good stuff.
and here's another new vid from Brandon that he posted on myspace:
http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&videoid=52039057
they have an upcoming greatest hits album which will feature some new tracks.
so yeah, that's it. enjoy incubus :)
I didn't know about the greatest hits album, I should check their myspace often.
Viva La Incubus.
i didn't know about it either until yesterday, hehe!
Hehe cool. Great time in their career to release a greatest hits record. Of course I am just saying that so that I can get my hands on some new tracks! ;D
New record should be out by 2010. 8)
EPIC RECORDS PROUDLY ANNOUNCES MONUMENTS AND MELODIES - A TWO DISC GREATEST HITS ALBUM FROM MULTI-PLATINUM ARTIST INCUBUS
NEW SINGLE, “BLACK HEART INERTIA” TO IMPACT RADIO APRIL 16
BAND ANNOUNCE SUMMER TOUR DATES
EXCLUSIVE PRE-SALE OFFER AVAILABLE NOW
New York, NY – Multi-platinum Epic recording artist, Incubus, is gearing up to release MONUMENTS AND MELODIES, a two disc collection of the band’s greatest hits and rarities, on June 16. The collection is a must have for fans of the band whose extraordinary career has spanned over a decade, has spawned twelve Top 10 hits – four of those landing at # 1, and six studio albums, the last being Light Grenades which debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Top 200, marking the highest charting album debut of the band’s career.
To celebrate the release of MONUMENTS AND MELODIES, Incubus is offering fans the opportunity to pre-order the album here. The album pre-order automatically enters fans into an exclusive Internet pre-sale where they will be amongst the first to purchase tickets to an upcoming show on the band’s highly anticipated Monuments and Melodies Summer Tour. The tour will officially kick off July 9th at the Cricket Wireless Amphitheatre in San Diego, CA and will cover 31 major cities across the U.S. and Canada, including dates at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles and two nights at Radio City Music Hall in New York City.
The two disc collection will be released in two configurations, a two disc CD, and a four disc LP. The first disc includes the band’s biggest hits including twelve Top 10 singles such as “Drive,” “Wish You Were Here” and “Pardon Me”, as well as two brand new tracks, “Black Heart Inertia” and “Midnight Swim” (both produced by Brendan O’Brien). The second disc consists of rarities that the band has recorded over the years, including a brand new cover of Prince’s “Let’s Go Crazy.” Album artwork for MONUMENTS AND MELODIES was designed by lead singer, Brandon Boyd.
Adding to the rarities on the physical release, Incubus will launch the most comprehensive collection of Incubus audio, video, and photos in a new section of www.enjoyincubus.com called The Vault. Many of these items have never been seen or were released in limited editions. Each individual copy of the physical album will include a unique code that can be used to upgrade the users account at www.enjoyincubus.com and allow them to download all of this incredible Incubus material.
Following in the footsteps of the incredible radio story for the band’s single, “Love Hurts”, which went to # 1 at alternative radio and will impact Adult Top 40 on March 17, Incubus will release “Black Heart Inertia”, the first new single from MONUMENTS AND MELODIES, on April 16. Fans can log onto the band’s website to stream a 45-second sample of the track.
Brandon Boyd, Michael Einziger and Jose Pasillas II formed Incubus in 1991 when they were high school classmates in Calabasas, CA. Chris Kilmore joined in 1998 and Ben Kenney in 2003. The band’s big break came in 1999 with the release of the double-platinum selling album, Make Yourself, which included the singles: “Pardon Me,” “Stellar,” and “Drive”. The group’s third album, Morning View, released in 2001, debuted at number two on the album chart and included the radio hits “Wish You Were Here,” and “Nice To Know You.” The most recent release from Incubus, Light Grenades, blazed onto Billboard’s Top 200 in 2006, debuting at #1.
You can catch Incubus playing some of the biggest hits of their career on the MONUMENTS AND MELODIES tour. Album track listing and tour dates are below.

Man at least Idiot Box or Favorite things can be put on here. And where the hell is Azwethinkweiz? Im still buying this shit because I want the new song. Sooo fucking Stoked! It says A Certain Shade Of Green (acoustic). Is this a studio (or 'lounge' version as Boyd calls it) that they recorded in a studio or a live song, or the T-LC song they did in 2004? ???
The album art is crazy stoked that Boyd designed the artwork for this.
IT'S ALL ABOUT MONEY...
No songs from S.C.I.E.N.C.E? fuck that, they just put their mellow singles for the new generations of radio hits...I think the only "heavy" song there is Pardon Me. Fail.
Meh, most Greatest Hits albums suck anyways. I'm just stoked about the two new songs and some of the rare stuff.
And a possible european tour.
In all, just fucking exciting that the band is back together.
i'd much rather see them in a smaller venue. it sucks they're playing an amphitheater
Yeah I don't know if I'll see them this time around. Last time I saw them was in a very small venue. I was spoiled. Anyway, it's not like SCIENCE is represented much in concert, so why have it represented on the cd? I probably wont buy this. Sorry Incubus, I already bought all of your cds. No need to buy another one that has the same songs on it.

I already pre-ordered. The second disc sounds good and I want that code to access unreleased material as well as the pre-sale tickets. The 1st disc is nothing special I'll agree.
Probably strange and sacrilegious to admit but 'A Crow Left of the Murder' and 'Light Grenades' are the only albums of theirs that I really, really like. The other stuff I'm not fussed on.

Wow, it's like the opposite for me...but yeah, some of their earlier stuff might be too cheesy for some, sometimes, but it's all in good fun I guess...
At least you enjoy the present, and you ain't some disgruntled nostalgic f00l.

its funny this thread popped up out of nowhere. because earlier today before a bike ride, i decided to listen to "a crow to the left of the murder"
i havent listened to the album in years. mainly because everytime i hear the album it takes me back to a certain place in time. which makes me feel a way i cant describe.
anyway. everyone who likes incubus says they dont like a crow to the left of the murder
but for me. i absolutely love it. and yet i dont like incubus.
i really love that album though. like i said. all my favorite music and albums take me back in time. and that album does it possibly more intensely than any other

Thats cool dude. The crow album is good, all in all. Especially, Here In My Room, Zee Deevel and Pistola. That album takes me back in time too, so I can relate with you as well, but for me it kinda brings melancholic vibes so I don't know if its the opposite or the same for you.
A Crow Left of the Murder reminds me of learning to drive, haha.
okay okay so maybe nostalgia's good sometimes...good to hold onto old memories and shit, better than forgetting everything and having no memory I guess..poor Chi, I hope he remembers some good things when he wakes up...

what a (major) disappointment
The new song sounds like nothing new to me, but yeah it's just me.

It's not mindblowing, but a great song nonetheless. What I love about it, is that they still have their own sound. Mike's guitar playing and Brandon's vocals keep getting better.
I wonder if they ever gonna sound again like the SCIENCE or Make Yourself era...
That would be boring. They shouldn't try to achieve an old sound... No bands should do that. At least in my opinion. I'll always think of SCIENCE as their greatest work, but I still respect (and like) the direction they're going in.
I agree with you bro but you have to accept that they've been doing the same stuff since ACLOTM...it's the same sound since then. Still the same formula.
Eh, I think Crow and Grenades sound vastly different. I think Crow is a much stronger album. I'll admit, Light Grenades was a disappointment. Still really looking forward to a new album though. They MUST have something new and exciting up their sleeves.

Black Heart Inertia is really growing on me. I like it quite a lot. It's better than most of the songs on Light Grenades.
Mike's solo is sweeet. Also, most may think they're cheesy, but I really dig the lyrics.

Same here. It has some of the sound of ACLOTM which I love.
Bleh. deftoneskid is right. If you had put this on ACLOM or Light Grenades, I wouldn't be able to tell which cd it came from. I mean it's still decent, but they need to do something different.

Yup!
They're counting on having a new album out in the beginning of 2010.
Yea, Black Heart Inertia really disappointed me. I mean it sounds different from LG which is good, but the song just felt empty to me. All the band members are really good on their instruments and Boyd's vox are top notch it just didn't do anything for me. Still stoked that they pre-maturely ended their hiatus and I am curious as hail to hear Midnight Swim.
I don't know why, but I am really digging Black Heart Inertia right now. It sounds guud. Got the digital download today in my mailbox and with higher quality it sounds ace.
Oh man, could you upload the hq version? that'd be sweet.

So I just found out that Incubus is one of those bands that you can go forever without hearing and then all of sudden be totally in love with them again. Forever I've had no desire to listen to them but tonight I listened to all of their cds. They're a pretty damn good band.

What's everyone's favorite album lyrically?
Mine's definitely Make Yourself.
Songs like Privilege, When It Comes, Make Yourself, Pardon Me and Out From Under have some of my favorite lyrics ever.
That's a really hard one. I would have to go with Make Yourself too though. Morning View also has really thoughtful and intelligent lyrics favorites include Under My Umbrella and Just A Phase. I just like the lyrical concept going on through all of Make Yourself. All the lyrics are trying to get the same message out but in a really artistic metaphorical way.
My favorite lyrics on Make Yourself is off the song, When It Comes. Crowded Elevator also has awesome lyrics.
"When it comes,
it comes unannounced.
And it feels like a matador is taunting me with his reddest red cloth and I am the bull.
Yes I feel emphatic about not being static
and not eating the bullshit that's being fed to me no more...
cause' now I'm full."
Fucking great writing there. Boyd is probably my favorite lyricist.
Also, "It feels like trading brains with an imbecile". Haha, genius.
The chorus in When It Comes is so fucking immense. One of my favorite songs. And yeah, Morning View is also a close second for me.
SCIENCE also has great lyrics...very imaginative.
morning view is my favorite album, both lyrically and musically.
"i suggest we learn to love ourselves before it's made illegal"
the whole album is perfection.
Haha yeah I love that line. And "immense" is the perfect word that describes the chorus.
Agreed with Lithium. LG is the weakest both musically and lyrically. the Crow album is quite good I might add. It has really dark lyrical matter.

Agreed 100%.
Light Grenades still has some great songs though; Quicksand/A Kiss, Anna Molly, LG, Rogues, Pendulous Threads. But yeah, definitely their weakest album.
With that said, I can't wait for a new album.
Aqueous Transmission is stunning
i just picture him getting really high and writing and coming up with melodies..
i was super excited when i found out deftones rented out the morning view studio house.. too bad they didnt find that inspiration boyd and co. were able to churn out
My favorite has always been Make Yourself.
Morning View obviously has this great relaxed atmosphere and SCIENCE is so damn funky, but Make Yourself has this special feeling to it. it's well produced, it shows that these guys are brilliant musicians, and the songwriting is outstanding. one of my all-time favorites.
I'd have to say Morning View or S.C.I.E.N.C.E.
Morning View is one of those cds that surprised me. Everyone told me how bad it was, but I just had to get all the cds. I was pleasantly surprised when I got it. One of my favorite cds overall by them.
fungus amongus, not for the lyrics but for the jams

Well, it's better than BHI, that's for sure. But,it's still a pretty weak track, imho. I hope they get some edge again.
Yeah I like Midnight Swim a lot. And this alternate version of Pantomime shits on the other version.
Yeah this Pantomime version rocks. I also LOVE Martini, While All the Vultures Feed and Let's Go Crazy.
Is that a studio recorded version of Let's Go Crazy?
Yes.
Officially jealous. I don't want to fork over the money for a cd that's basically a mix of Incubus' singles with a few never before heard songs. Kind of seems like a waste to me.

There are like four or three other b-sides from the Morning View era. I hope they post them on the vault.

awesome.
I think it is: Incubus Ft. The Roots...
BTW I'm so fucking jealous about Jose's cap collection
So anyone saw what about that vault, had anything truly special in it?
Its pretty cool actually. They are still adding stuff to it.
Did Incubus officially go off of hiatus? Are they writing new material? I'm wanting to enjoy some new Incubus.

Yup!
Quote from Boyd on July 1, 2009, Boyd stated to North County Times:
"We are definitely going to be writing ... in hopes of putting out a record sometime in 2010. That's the hope. We can never force anything. I definitely have the suspicion that we're going to get on the road together this summer, and we're just going to start playing and stuff is going to start brewing, and we're going to light that fire again."
Brandon and Ben accepting 'Keepers of the Coast' award
Oct. 9 2009
Brandon and Ben were on hand to accept the "Keepers of the Coast" award from the Surfrider Foundation's Awards ceremony this past weekend. Mark Hoppus from Blink 182 was the host.
Special appearances came from Perry Farrell and Dave Navarro under the band moniker "Camp Freddy." They busted out some old school Jane's Addiction tunes and the crowd ate it up!
Awards were also handed out to Pearl Jam (the band wasn't able to attend) and David Chokachi.
The award ceremony/party was held at the CA Science Center's Wallis Annenberg Building; a very spacious, modern room consisting mostly of steel construction and trees growing inside.

Very cool.
You know what would be cooler? A new album. This band, at it's best, is phenomenal. Unfortunately the last couple of albums have been disappointments. They need to come back and prove to me they've still got it.
Patience, young grasshopper...patience. :)
A little interview.

Cool. Wow Boyd is showing some wrinkles there :o Thats new to me.
The new record should be out next year for sure. Incubus never disappoints imo, but LG is my least favorite album from them.
Yeah he's definitely looking significantly older.
Just stumbled over this. A new song from Brandon Boyd (solo)
NEW SONG! 2010 - Incubus Brandon Boyd - Runaway Train HQ (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FefiTpMBaYw#)
Okay, I guess I've been sleeping under a rock, but apparently Brandon Boyd is going to release a...solo album soon.
From his Facebook:
"Album is mixed! About to be mastered! Inching closer to a release date which will probably be sooner than later. I'm scared and excited."
"'The Wild Trapeze' is finished and coming very soon! Artwork all done and now working on a little music video. Sorry for my online absense; I get consumed by my joy of work. That, and I am not the most savvy social networker. More to come very soon! Thanks Lovers..."
I had no idea about this, but I'm definitely intrigued.
Thoughts on how this is gonna sound?
As Kurt once said: 'moderate rock'. I don't mind Incubus in flashes but they lack something, it's almost too polished, too familiar sounding, too pop?
I'll agree the last two albums have had some good songs. But they have been lacking something for a while.
As you said, "intrigued" is what I feel about this record. I am anticipating it with high hopes. Brandon is a very talented songwriter so I hope this turns out great.
New video from Boyd.
"Runaway Train".

I dig it a lot.
Whoa.
That was unbelievable. The song is fuckin awesome and the video, damn what word can I use? Gnarly. Can't wait for the album. When will it be released?
His album will be released July 6th! I'm stoked as well.
The more I listen to this song, the more I love it.
Can't wait to hear the album.
Yeah dude, same here.

So I just found out that Incubus is one of those bands that you can go forever without hearing and then all of sudden be totally in love with them again. Forever I've had no desire to listen to them but tonight I listened to all of their cds. They're a pretty damn good band.
This has just happened again.
Ha, I've gotten hooked on them again lately too.
Agree with you guys. My roomate bought Make Yourself a back in 08 and reintroduced me to them. Since then i've bought all their albums. I was just playing Echo on the guitar earlier today. I have to say i love this band.

Brandon Boyd - The Wild Trapeze

I liked Venus mirror and the single maybe one or two more tunes. It seems to be a record to be absorbed little by little.
I'm in love with this record. Listened to it four times today.
Favorite tracks so far: "The Wild Trapeze", "Here Comes Everyone", "Runaway Train" & "Courage and Control".
"Courage and Control" gave me chills. Beautiful song.

Could anyone from UK, Austria, Finland, France, Germany, Holland, Switzerland or Spain help me.
I want to order the album from www.thewildtrapeze.com (http://www.thewildtrapeze.com) , but the site can't ship it to Denmark.
So could could any one of you kind people, from one of the following countries listed above, make the purchase for me and then send it to me? I'll transfer the money through PayPal.
It'd mean a lot.
wow cool, downloading it!!!
ugh. I hope Incubus does another album soon, this is crap.

You people are fucking nuts.
It's a fantastic album.
Oh, and regarding a new Incubus album:
"Up next for Brandon Boyd, another Incubus studio album. The quintet that is Incubus (vocalist Brandon Boyd, guitarist Mike Einziger, bassist Ben Kenney, DJ Chris Kilmore and drummer Jose Pasillas) will head back into the studio later this summer to begin writing and recording a new studio album, tentatively scheduled for a 2011 release."
I think is a good effort. I liked most of the songs, but I really miss incubus and the old stuff...
^ I feel the same way man. Science, Make Yourself, and Morning View are all great records. But their last couple have definitely been lacking something. I thought a Crow Left of the Murder was a really poor effort...

What are you exactly looking for? I got a lot of Incubus stuff.
is the brandon boyd stuff really worth it? i love every incubus album up to and including a crow left of the murder but light grenades was beyond a disappointment to me and i absolutely HATED it. just curious.
Give it a shot. The only thing resembling Incubus is Brandon's voice.
It's a fantastic album.
well i suppose i'll give it a try. i've always had a tremendous respect for brandon as a vocalist and lyricist so i imagine i should like it. i'll let you know what i think.... since you guys care so much....
I'm looking for a good audio quality of Brandon's solo album. I downloaded it from a torrent but man the sound on it is so Shitty.
I've heard a few tracks and wasnt overly impressed. i havent listened to the rest cuz i dont want to be disappointed lol

Yo could try this (http://narod.ru/disk/22485417000/BB-TWT.rar.html).
As I've known, the album was released exclusively via iTunes and Limited Shit Edition.
This one is m4u, originally taken from iTunes. It will work in your iPod and Winamp will run it normally.
so...in the works:
- band in the studio recording.
- band making a live dvd/cd of the show in chile recorded october 8th, as a sidenote, this was a benefit show for the miners trapped in my country (as you may or not know they got out, just a couple of day after the show was performed).
anyways, i made this as a promo. i got a soundboard cut of the opening track, and i mixed with live audio. it came out pretty badass.
this is how we roll. dvd is gonna be sick.
deftones needs to do the same thing.

I really hope they're gonna take a sharp u-turn and stay away from the sound on Light Grenades.

have you heard the new song?, they played it twice here in chile. i love it.
Incubus - Surface to air (Live in Chile 2010) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VWCuct70TT0#ws)
lyrics:
surface to air
do you read me? mayday
aeronaut to base
i confess im a mess
no regrets, alone
hovering in space
is there anyone out there?
why the third degree?
never knew until you
silence could be so...
sun rose indeed
wherever you are
send out a flare
this is an attempt to connect
edify, intersect!
send in life, give repair
im
surface to air!
do you hear me? mayday
i am at search of?
but im caught in a knot
goes the saying
so below a thousand fires
is there anyone out there?
i am high and dry
suffering is a thing
when reckoning is the only reason why
we suffer at all...
to send out a flare
this is an attempt to connect,
edify, intersect!
send in life, give repair
im
surface to air!
oh...
is there anyone? x2
is there anyone out there?
suffering is a thing
when reckoning is the only reason why
we suffer at all...
so send out a flare...
send out a flare...
send out a flare...
this is an attempt to connect
this is an attempt to connect
this is an attempt to connect
this is an attempt to connect
edify intersect!
in attempt to connect
edify intersect!
in attempt to connect
edify intersect!
send in life, send repair!
im
surface to air!
Wow that song is really good. I just hope it doesn't become over-produced when they record it. I think if the new album sounds more like this, then we could have a realllly good album on our hands.

yeah it sound pretty solid already.
Hmm, not sure how I feel about that song. I need to hear it in better quality before I can judge it fairly.
Sounds decent, though. Nothing spectacular.

its a grower man, give it time. youll see.
as long as the new album completely ignores that light grenades ever happened i'll be cool with it. i love every other incubus album but god do i ever fucking hate light grenades.
EDIT: new song is meh but i guess i can't really hear what mike is doing and that's usually the highlight for me. his stuff on a crow left of the murder was phenomenal. i'm really hoping they up the energy a little bit.

Though it's certainly my least favorite Incubus album, there are definitely still some solid songs on it: Quicksand/A Kiss to Send Us Off, Anna Molly, Light Grenades, Oil and Water, Rogues, Pendulous Threads.

i fucking love light grenades
i only like anna molly and barely at that. love hurts and stuff like that just ruined it for me. it seemed they were selling out to the college fan douchbag bro crowd, which incubus is surprisingly popular with. it just all seemed a bit dumbed down for me. the lyrics were really weak compared to the old brandon.
EDIT: okay on second thought, after listening to anna molly for the first time in a long while it's a pretty damn good song. still can't change my mind about the rest of the album which is a shame. they're incredibly talented guys. hopefully the well hasn't run dry, and judging from brandon's solo album it hasn't (for him at least). i'll probably still pick up their new album when it comes out.
once again folks...

Really digging it. Beats the shit out of the new dredg single, that's for sure.
The new album will be called "If Not Now, When?" and it's set for release July 12th.
The only thing I can think of when I hear Incubus is of how of much pussy Brandon Boyd must get because he's Brandon Boyd and for how long it will stay that way.
mp3 anyone?

What a fucking annoying sounding guitar.
^ What an annoying fucking post!
I dig the song, it's a grower!!
Pardon Me, my favorite Incubus song of all time, completely amazing. I've always loved the beginning of the song, how it starts out soft, the guitar riffs just start rocking before Brandon starts singing, lyrics are brilliant as well.
Incubus Lyrics
Pardon Me Lyrics
Pardon me while I burst
Pardon me while I burst
"awesome guitar riffs start right here"
A decade ago, I never thought I would be at twenty three
On the verge of spontaneous combustion, woe is me
But I guess that it comes with the territory
An ominous landscape of never ending calamity
I need you to hear, I need you to see
That I have had all I can take
And exploding seems like a definite possibility to me
So pardon me while I burst into flames
I've had enough of the world and it's people's mindless games
So pardon me while I burn and rise above the flame
Pardon me, pardon me, I?ll never be the same
Not two days ago, I was having a look in a book
And I saw a picture of a guy fried up above his knees
I said, "I can relate", ?cause lately I've been thinking
Of combustication as a welcomed vacation
From the burdens of the planet Earth
Like gravity, hypocrisy and the perils of being in 3 D
But thinking so much differently
So pardon me while I burst into flames
I've had enough of the world and it's people's mindless games
So pardon me while I burn and rise above the flame
Pardon me, pardon me, I?ll never be the same
I?ll never be the same
Pardon me while I burst into flames
Pardon me, pardon me, pardon me
So pardon me while I burst into flames
I've had enough of the world and it's people's mindless games
So pardon me while I burn and rise above the flame
Pardon me, pardon me, I?ll never be the same
Pardon me, I?ll never be the same, yeah
Wow what a great song! Loving this shit for sure.
This song is definitely more enjoyable then all the singles off Light Grenades.

i used to. i honestly haven't cared about them in about 6 or 7 years though. however, this new song was good so i'm kind of anticipating this new album now.
Sweet, man. Good to hear!
Adolescents is already better than 90% of Light Grenades, so that's a good sign!
there will be a 8 minute song on the album and an acoustic song with brandon and mike only.
Im uploading the MP3 right now.. .I did the ID3 Tag for it too so it should be properly named in your favorite audio program.

I actually think LG is a really good album apart from Love Hurts. But Pendulous Threads, Quicksand, Rouges...all classics imo,
It's good to see them back and still providing us with signature original sounds of Incubus... I'm Satisfied and eager to get ahold of the new album.

I couldn't agree more. Incubus takes a lot of shit for constantly changing they're sound, but I don't mind it so much. While a lot of people say their sellouts...I don't quite see it that way. I think it just proves how much of a well rounded band they are. Mike's guitar work is always genius and Brandon's lyrics are always great. I don't appreciate many mainstream bands, but I always enjoy Incubus.

that is quite plausible, though i would bet it has to be more about the mindset in wich they got when they went into recording, as i recall STA was made before all of this...anyways it will probably be release as a b-side.

word around the intertubes is that this just leaked already...
Holy shit...
SOMEONE FIND IT!!!
Edit: FOUND IT! http://depositfiles.com/en/files/u0nk2tjgt
Just got done with the album.
On my first listen this could just as easily have been a follow up to Brandon's solo album. I never expected them to make a hard rock album again, but there's something wrong when Adolescents is the second most rocking song on the album.
Every song is slow, slow, sloooow.
It's been 5 years since Light Grenades, so my expectations were pretty damn big.
Utter disappointment.
yep, this album sucks, lyrics are awful as well. "i am lost, but now i am found." that is bad for brandon boyd. they must have rushed this after being away from each other for a long period of time.
I wouldn't say it "sucks". It's just way too mellow.
Tracks that stood out on the first listen: If Not Now, When?, In the Company of Wolves and Switchblade.
I'm honestly not trying to troll here but why are bands soft now? The new glassjaw is a musical pillow too.
man i can say i saw this one coming (about the leak) but i cant say the same about the album itself...ill wait until a proper rip comes out.
I had no expectations at all since I hated the new tunes on the greatest hits.
And I must say I enjoyed the ride this record gave me, this sleepy mood really fits them. This is a different Incubus, finally.
of course, like all of you guys I miss the heavy days, too.
i probably went overboard when i said it sucks. however, i did thing the middle to the end of wolves was pretty sweet. i like the glassjaw album, but agree it is very slow as well. bands are just mellowing out in their mid 30s i suppose.
In the Company of Wolves is my favorite by far. But overall, it does seem like they underachieved with this album.
I just got excited when Mike said that this album had most in common with Morning View.
Morning View is probably my favorite album from Incubus. It just gives me such a great vibe. That album is mellow too, but it has quite a lot of rocking songs too. I miss that whole era.
I probably need to give the new one some more listens. I'll wait for a better quality rip.
Can someone re-up it please its been taken down...
EDIT: Thanks to sush-x in the "it leaked" thread.

i mean...the album is horrible. wtf happened?
It's far from horrible.
After thinking about it, I've accepted the vibe they were going for with this album. Completely stripped down and chilled.
At least it's coherent and focused unlike Light Grenades.
I'm gonna delete the album now and give it a fresh listen when it comes out.
i do not like this album at all.
Disappointed... pretty lame effort compared to their past material.
Well... I have listened to this album a number of times and at first I felt kind of disappointed that after such a long time they came out with such a slow and
soft album. I gave it more listens though and this album has grown on me quite a bit I should say. The compositions are very lush and flow nicely. There is definitely a minimal aspect taken into it, but I think it works great for them. I haven't yet decided how this ranks amongst their other albums, but songs like Thieves and In The Company of Wolves are just some of the best stuff they have every written.
is it just me, or dont you guys feel kinda lame listening to a fucking encoded 128 rip?
im not saying that the album wont suck either way on a flac format but...i mean, come on...
does anybody feel me, or im just being too elite?. i mean its freaking 2011 you know

That's why I've only listened to it once and deleted it. Gonna listen to it again when it's released.
I think It's actually a bit elite. many people want 320 kbps rips only for them to be heard on shitty speakers. We as music lovers should learn to separate the music from the sound (really abstract, I know).
Still some records deserve this kind of respect. It happened with Thursday's last album, for example.

word, thankfully no shitty speakers in here. in fact, if there's anything im investing, is on decent hi-fi stuff.
I'm really enjoying it. I've been an incubus fan since the science era but fell off after the shitstorm of light grenades. Maybe it's because I had such low expectations after the last one but I'm really digging it. They haven't been heavy for about 3 albums now so to expect that is just silly. I think this disc has a place in their catalogue and it works well. I like it.

that's a good investment, slacker. I'm currently using the sennheiser hd280 as headphones. I love how they are strong on the low-mids without exagerating a lot of bass frecuencies. Guitars and cymbals really benefit from this type of frecuency response. What are you currently blasting music on? how does it pays off? (i haven't had the oportuny to try a lot of stuff).

If you think those are good invest in some Sennheiser HD595's, or 650's. Those will blow your brains out. Of course to get the full benefit from them you will need a decent headphone amplifier but they are totally worth it man.
I got the Sony MDR-7506 headphones.
They are incredible.
Nice choice. They're supposed to be some of the nicest quality sound and loads of professionals use them. Those are headphones I'd consider if getting new nice headphones but I am perfectly content with my Technics RP-DJ1200s. One question: how is the bass on them? I don't need loads of bass but I like some nice bass and dynamics.
This album isn't bad at all. My expectations were extremely low after seeing all the comments on another forum I go to and this one but it's pretty nice. Some parts are really bland and a couple songs are lame but other than that it's alright. There are some standout moments. Much better than the new Dredg album.
wow i gotta say i kinda liked that you guys went off topic on this one.
in fact, im not shure if there's one (topic) for hifi in this forum...anyways, i just got my fiio e7 (dac + headphone amplifier) and everything is much better now. i was on the look for the nuforce udac2, but the portability of the e7 was IT for me. plus, now im trying to get the e9, to fulfill my proper desktop setup (at list for my headphones) not that i own lots of 'em but, the fiio runs my shure 750dj just fine. the 50mm drivers are so spot on man... great affordable phones for rock/metal fans.
im looking forward to get some ultrasone pro 750 in the near future, they seem to work very good for my likings. the sennheisers 595, and 650 are such landmarks, that i would be more than happy to get a hold on those. for in-ear, im aiming at some ue triple fi 10 or some hifiman re 262...as plan b, i might just skip any of those, and just save the bucks and go straight to the throat for the westone umx3...they seem to be the ultimate in-ears, for rock/metal fans. any feedback on any of this shit? does anybody knows if chino uses UE's? anyways...
i still wont listen to the album until a get a proper rip at list... though im looking forward for a lossless release, nowdays its pretty duable, at list on a decent timeframe...
Wow that adolescent song, moderate rock, so safe, neither indie or rock or metal, just sitting on the fence of all three. Honestly linkin park are more imaginative than incubus these days, at least they gave selling out a real shot

*sigh* well I see what everyone means... I know they will never make another Make Yourself, or Science for that matter.. But with this album they took a complete 360 and I swear they are trying to convey a slight classic rock type vibe with a touch of experiement features to their new material.. Its not what I expected but it does have its moments. I have to say though In the company of wolves really took me by suprise.. Switch Blade was very interesting... But alot of the others really didnt catch my ear... This is very subjective and ironic but I think adolescents is the best track.

Oh c'mon 2 songs so far and I already want to kill myself...sad.
after repeated listens this album is growing on me. it definitely has its moments.
I love Adolescents so I know i'm going to love the rest of the album
...
I'm gonna do a track by track...
If not now when? - I don't like it. I don't know if it'll grow on me, but it probably wont.
Promises, Promises - Love it, Lyrics are a little repetitive but still good.
Friends and Lovers - I like it, not the best song i've heard on the album but it's not the worst.
Thieves - Love it, I just love Brandon Boyds voice in this song, and just the whole instrumentation of it all..
Isadore - Fuck yes, this is Incubus at its finest.
The Original - Love it. It's soothing to my ears, its the song you listen to with your eyes closed and it takes you somewhere else. Einziger kills it again.
Defiance - Acoustic song, sounds like its a Brandon Boyd written song, guitars and all, sounds like a folk song or something. Like it, but not a whole lot. Short song, only 2:19 in length.
In The Company Of Wolves - Reminds me of like.. Pink Floyd.. I love it. Just the way he sings is amazing. Song switches direction midway through.. Funky bass groove in there. More amazing guitar and drumming as well.. Ok this song may just be my favorite song on the album... it just keeps getting better as the song progresses..
Switchblade - Oh damn.. This is the most upbeat song so far on the album.. Kinda hip-hoppy singing.. awesome bass lines.. probably 2nd favorite on the album. Bitchin song. It might end up being my favorite once I listen to the album more.
Adolescents - Love it, one of my favorite songs on the album.
Tomorrow's Food - Good song to close the album. Finger picked guitar, soothing lyrics... slower tempo.
-------------
Usually, when a band says they've "evolved" their sound.. It's usually a lie. This album, shows what true evolution is when it comes to music.

i got the itunes single, and it most definitly sounds much better than the fucking enconded rip, as much as the album supposedly sucks, im waiting for a decent rip. i already blew myself listening to the fucking 192 rip of decon (DTP), not happening twice!.
theres a 320kbps rip out there.
Find it!
the 320 kpbs leaked 2 days after the first leak. not transcoded
i need the scans for that. proof or die.

yeah still...the itunes singles holds more quality than this 320. although it was good enough for me...i can see where people are coming from arguing that the record sucks...
not their best fo sho. the mid tempo all the way, it just seems like to much. bold move...bold...
It's called evolution. Unlike what most bands say they do. Incubus actually do it.

exactly. i dig it still. it's really laid back but it's something i haven't really gotten from this band before so it feels fresh.
...i think you can always do a sucky record.
17.06.2011 Huxleys Neue Welt, Berlin

Incubus - In the Company of Wolves *NEW SONG* (Berlin Live Stream 2011) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AdHE_tWx9-c#)
This song is fantastic.
That was my favorite song from the new album.
I must say I am actually quite disappointed with their new album. There was some moments that were pretty gnarly but for the most part, its sounds dull and uninspired. 3/5 for me.

While the album is kind of a disappointment, I still always support the bands that made my younger years so great (i.e. Korn, Beastie Boys, etc.)
Check out the new Incubus record. Judge for yourself. They still are great live...if they don't play songs off this. HA!

well did any of you guys watched de HQ live stream series?
i think the promo this guys did for the release of the new album was amazing.
they performed for a select group of fans in their HQ, for 5 nights. they just finished the last night. each night had a different set, first night was morning view day, the whole album played, day two was make yourself (awesome), day 3 and 4 was a mixed set, and tonight they played the new album.
man...the new songs sound awesome live. im sold.
i wasnt there though, but they streamed the whole thing live. amazing. plus during the day the guys painted, gave free clinics and shit.
execellent PR and promotion.
this band is something else. anyone watched?
if only deftones would pull something like this...
sounds like a fantastic way to draw the attention from fans and connecting, doing some feedback. Wish I was an incubus fan (still love some of their albums).
bands should get more creative with things like this, not for a marketing point solely, but for a way of expanding their artistic side. With today's technology, it's possible.

not to me. I'd recommend re-downloading it in another location.

Evolution happens with every new record for every band, it's just for some it's so little that you don't notice. And then there's bands that spend years to evolve into elevator music, read: Incubus.
Just listened to SCIENCE today. Shit, that never gets old.

Brandon Boyd as Sons of the Sea.

Sons of the Sea - Space And Time (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IlIlGLsAeAk#ws)
Sons of the Sea - Lady Black (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u_auZhDPNOM#ws)
It's an interesting way to release new music, doing an EP first and a full album later this year.
Sons of the Sea EP is up more info here,
Brandon has a nifty new website here: http://www.brandonboyd.me/ (http://www.brandonboyd.me/)
I am digging his new logo:
Also, here is an unconfirmed track listing:
Come Together
Hey That's No Way To Say Goodbye (possible Leonard Cohen cover, judging by the title)
Avalanche
Great Escape
Lady Black
Space + Time
Plus - Minus
Untethered
Where All The Songs Come From
Jet Black Crow
The tracks come from a reputable member of an Incubus message board, but haven't been confirmed by Brandon himself yet
I downloaded the EP last night, wasn't too bad.
Huh, never heard of this before. Will probably check it out at some point.
I think Brandons solo stuff has real magic to it, lady Black is gorgeous! And apart from the one song off Wild Trapeze it was a masterpiece album.
I still do admit to miss to the days of Dirk being in the band....I think Light Grenades (especially Anna Molly) was shit! I really liked INNW though :)
Hum yeah I understand that, every time I see the video "Anna Molly" touch me by personal reasons of course, but I pretty much agree with you.
Brandons solo stuff has real magic to it, I am impatient for the full cd.

Yeah i think it will be fantastic! (judging on how the EP sounds so far)
Brandon Boyd | Sons Of the Sea | Plus Minus (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=69QzkWzKas8#)
It's an interesting direction for Brandon. I think his description of "oddball pop" is accurate.
The album is good, Great production as well. Now the Official music video,
Brandon boyd did it all for the nookie ;D! beautiful black girl though.
Sons of the Sea "Come Together" (Official Music Video) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N6AN1rAtrDs#ws)
I like the album :) And i was trying to figure out whether its milk or home made yoghurt...
New Incubus track. Meh.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fokXZUn6VAA#t=47 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fokXZUn6VAA#t=47)
Like the vibe and psychedelic guitars. Not a fan of the vocals, though. Chorus is atrocious
The new song sucks so much.
Trust Fall is actually not so bad. Reminds me of ACLOTM, which is probably my favorite Incubus album
Something's really not working with this band anymore.
It gets worse.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aDUEKeXDCr4 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aDUEKeXDCr4)
WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS SHIT!?
This is the worst thing I've ever heard from Incubus. Trust Fall was decent and Absolution calling was listenable. This shit is not.
Here's an hour and a half interview with Mike and Brandon at the LA College of Music just a few weeks ago. Some really interesting responses in this video.

.
After the last awesome EP, Incubus have stated they will release a new song called "Nimble Bastard" on February 16th... it will air on 'The Kevin & Bean Show' this will be their new material off the new album and it should be out in April sometime..
look for Skrillex to be a guest on the album as well..
