I was thinking of covering a deftones or team sleep song, make a collob with other artists, and try to sell the tracks online with all donations going to oneloveforchi.com...
I was thinking of doingTeam Sleep acutally, acoustic one to be specific.
go for it, hopefully youll get some tight ass artist to record with you.
Okay, maybe www.myspace.com/1luv4chimusic ???
I dunno, I need some good name ideas...
When I record the track and get maybe at least two other covers [entries] to attract some buzz, I think I will create the myspace...
Unless other people think differently.

you know i had a crazy idea like that too today.. just don't know how to pull it off... hell_tanner did this bad ass acoustic song for chi and I was thinking how awesome it would be to have other maybe sharing lungs musicians add to it somehow.. i don't want to jack up hell_tanner's song cuz it is beautiful the way it is.. but i thought doing something like that (even with a different track he or someone could write) in a united fashion with people from all over the world would be rad.. something similar to the post i made today: http://oneloveforchi.com/index.php/one-love/ (http://oneloveforchi.com/index.php/one-love/)
i don't know.. thinking outloud... hell_tanner? ideas? my husband is willing to write lyrics.. sing.. drums... whatever.
next...?
one love for chi,
gina
Yes, sure, I would be up for that, writing a song with some other people all adding to it....or some kind of compilation with different songs people here would come up with...I'm all for it, it's a good idea!
ok - so what other musicians are up to it?
I could add some guitar tracks..depending on which songs ya wanna cover.. i might have to learn the song first :p

Everyone, please submit whatever you have to my myspace page, or on this thread. I live with a producer and he is more than happy to help out. He is in process of finishing his album but has no deadline...
So for instance you submit a guitar only track, we can master it, try to add all other elements, or we can then repost the track for others to join...
Nick, where you at? Damnit, I forget his username here...

I agree
Yeah, I think Deftones or maybe some Team Sleep would really attract the desired demographic.
However, that DOES NOT exclude covers of which touch the song, re-mix, or alter the song(s). For instance (example), Idiot Pilot's version of ' Teenager'.

That works for me too.
Yup, you should cover a Deftones song, I think. Why not to play a cover of a song they never played live ? That would kicks ass even more, I think.

Excellent, Kameron632, can you upload the file to sendfile (of whatever it's called). Send me the link, we will master it, then put it back up for Ryan (Gina's husband) to lay down vocals.
:)
Any of you in the Los Angeles area? We have a full studio here, people are always coming through.

what about drum tracks?
Word, the link is working now...
He added the drums.
Nice work.
there seems to be a lot of unecessary noise ..
There is a program called guitar pro, it can do alot of stuff. Also go to ultimate-guitar.com and look for the guitar pro version of the song and download it, open it in guitar pro and there you go. Guitar, Bass, and Drums!!! Convert the drums to MIDI and you can open it in cubase n stuff, thats wat i use to record. The unecessary noise would be my guitar when i try to palm mute really fast, it picks up this noise, cant help that but i think it sounds good.
ill try throwin down a guitar track later.. i'll see if i can get it cleaner..
How did you record the guitar?
Ok, I just recorded my Like Linus guitar track.. uploading now.. will edit with link.. the drums will have to be edited in.
I know the track is a little rough.. but its the best i could do :p

um....its kinda off, wat tempo were you playing at?
I have no idea.. I just kinda winged it :P
Its a little faster than the regular version
and I guess.. the Deftones version isnt perfect either :P.. once the drums and bass are in.. and the vocals.. it should fit well.

welli can send you a drum track and you can play along with it, your version is actually a lil slower than the drum track i have, which is at 130 bpm
hmmm. anyway you can speed it up or would that just screw up the whole song?

I would LOVE to do vocals on this. I've got plenty of gear and software to get it done.
I have a couple examples of things I've done here:
http://www.myspace.com/ifxever two of them are just vocals over deftones instrumentals, one i did with 13 hours to paradise.
I've got quite a bit more range then whats on the tracks, and would put more polishing into any sortof track that were to come out of this

Thanks man.
For software i'm running a modified version of H20's SX3 (modified it myself) with a bunch of plug ins, (antares, pluggo, waves, audio damage, voxengo, etc)
My interface is a presonus firestudio with a behringer tube compressor, and presonus preamp. I'm using an MXL4000 mic, Shure SM58, and an AKG d9000
I can get some really nice sounds out of it if I polish everything enough. The vocal tracks on that myspace aren't mastered yet, hardly even mixed.

Oh, no worries... I think it's tight, covers should never be the same.
Plus I'm going to use a hiss filter which will elimanate some of the static. Also add chours to the drums so they sound more organic... We don't have a drummer here eh?
I play drums, but sadly no kit :'(
Maybe someone on the espguitars messageboard would be willing to program or record some drums from this. There's alot of Deftones fans there.
Yo Nick!!!
How've been man?
So check this out, I moved to LA. My bestfriend owns a clothing shop. He has the shop, then a workshop next door. Well, I convenieved his business partner to let me manage the shop next door - it is being turned into a music showcase/venue as we speak! I can't wait. If you ever want a vacation you have a place to crash and the showcase is going to be loaded with music equptment... It's really an opportunity you can't miss...
This applies to everyone, however, once my buddy Devin is done with rehab in two months we are going to start touring right away... Our drummer just moved back from Europe, however still hoping between San Fran and San Diego so we don't have much to rehearse with... We have our own shit written, then we pass guitar and bass back between 'one weak' and 'birthmark' as a show opener. I'm so excited and can't hold still. Jai on drums, kick ass rythem - hence he's a black man... Then Devin - blone hair cracker on guitar. Then my stupid italian/english ass on bass. I hope our diverstity really helps.
Also, everyone, please remember this is for Chi - the songs will be sold on iTunes or where ever else... Our pitch is even if you don't dig the cover, then at least your donate helps a good cause...
Anyone come up with a name yet?
How about ChiBenifit? Fuck I don't know...

You know what, I should just move out there and find a place. I'm tired of MA. haha hows the job scene down there?
You guys got anything recorded?
I think the best way for us to do this will be to have Gina's hubby lay down the drum tracks to like linus, then pile on the guitar and bass tracks, and then me and some more people can do various vocals.
Also, we need to be careful about copyrights. If a label owns the rights to like linus, they aren't going to like it reguardless of wether or not it's for chi's benefit.
at least one original song would be mint. I've got about a zillion riffs stored in my head and words I would love to get out for chi.
Honestly, LA is the shit! I fucking love it here. We've recorded a lot of music, some really good shit. We've also played open mics and a few local live shows.
They are saved in a Ableton file formate, not mp3 so I don't have the option to share it with you guys yet.
The job sence isn't too good, I have another 6 months of unemployment @ $550 /week.... I can't complain.
Gina,
Can you speak with someone regarding copyrights? Or can you have someone contact me?
TIA,
Patrick
Mods:
Can this thread become a sticky? Or at least when a few songs are created and available for demo play?
Don't know if this is a one track deal, but I'd love to do vocals on something. It seems dibs have been claimed on Like Linus, but if anything falls through I could definitely do that. You won't be disappointed, so let me know if I can do anything please! Cheers!
Much respect,
-Matt
Oh man, pick a song! We will gather what we can if you can lay down some vocals.
I think Deathblow would be a cool fucking track to cover...
Yeah I have a little ProTools Mbox Pro set up at the apartment, nothing fancy but it gets the job done. When I get home after my exam tonight I'll record a little clip of something just as like a sample. Whoot whoot!
Much respect,
-Matt
Hey, just sing/record the first verse and chours to Digital Sea by Thrice... I can then properly place your vocal range with an ideal song :)
Alright, will do--just have to learn the song :P Just for reference (given I haven't sung in a band for some time now) I should be able to hit all the vocal highs in like Feiticiera, Digital Bath, Birthmark, etc. Though I don't want to say that as a matter of fact as it has been a while, I've just been playing mild folky acoustic stuff as of late.
Much respect,
-Matt
Oh, I hear ya... Metal is always a love, but it has been put on the back burner for more creative music.
I can't recall if 'Feliciera' has a cover - that would be fucking dope!!!
If you don't have time to learn Digital Sea, then how about 'Bored'?
Either would be totally fine really...I was trying to look for something I had online, and all I came up with was my old band from highschool's myspace, http://www.myspace.com/pasticheband. The only track with vocals recorded is Life on Mars, a David Bowie cover, lol, the rest is just pure jamming. That was all live anywho, and sounds decent. That's not really my usual singing style, but it works for the song :P
Much respect,
-Matt
On a side note, I'm getting all nostalgic now, haha. I want a band so bad.
Much respect,
-Matt
I'm using an old pos eMac at the moment, Adobe flash isn't working so I can't hear your tracks as of now...
Also, I think it would help with buzz if people knew their was ideas for covered songs in brew. If that makes any fucking sense.

i'm up for this, i can add also guitar.
i'll rec some covers mentiones here (like linus, feiticeira, bored) and some others maybe, maybe this weekend, to see if they're good and share. Juste let me know what cover or song want to do. also isf it's a new song (i mean, original song), i can help also w/ my guitar.
I would say record what song you enjoy, then it appears we have enough people to collab with.

Word, I'll check it out tomorrow when I have more time!
Here is my contribution with the song Feiticeira on guitar.
Hope you like it, and hope this to be good. Is only guitar, so somebody can add the bass, drums and voice.
Feiticeira (Guitar) (http://rapidshare.com/files/225784229/Feiticeira_Final_.mp3/)
I recorded it with my guitar plugged to the amp with overdrive and the amp plugged to the line-in/mic in the PC. Then I recorded it with Cool Edit Pro 2, and got a pretty decent result. As you noticed, no effects are used on this song because I still don't have any pedal/effects, just the overdrive provided by the amp.
If you guys need the wav file, just tell me.
I'm also working on Like Linus, Bored, Change and Digital Bath.
This is a song i wrote for Chi, it has no bass or vocals but if you guys want you can add it in

Its not gonna be good recording deftones songs without a distortion pedal
any tracks ready for vocals for ryan?

I don't know why, but my ProTools is crapped out. The little folder (icon) that opens with the program doesn't respond and thus the program can't perform any actions, recording, saving, nothing. I don't know what's going on, but I reported it to apple and I'm hoping for a response back. I'm not entirely sure where the installation disk is, but I'll look for it and see if I can't delete and then re-install it. I uploaded a little something I did that I thought would be nice for Chi. It's pretty rough, and I know I'm a little flat on some of the parts, but I love the song, so yeah. The link is here http://www.2shared.com/file/5497544/174ccba8/Starholemix.html. My guitar blows so if anyone has a nicer one that they'd want to lay down I'm all for it. Later.
Much respect,
-Matt

Hey I put drums on your feiticeira guitar thing.
I Can put drums on other stuff if you want me to

I think I'm going to go to guitar center some time this week and buy a drumset just to record some of these tracks and then return it.

I use Cool Edit Pro too, I can add distortion. But god damnit, my power supply on my good computer crapped out again...
I'm bummed, but then again all the songs people have uploaded are great, so glad you all are around.
@ sharinglungs:
sorry man, but that's all i can do for now, but imo it sounds good. i know that with cool edit pro i can add some effects, but maybe later. i'm short of time now.
@ kameron632:
wow.. you did a great job, i noticed that you addes some distortion to the guitar.. thanks..
and about the drums.. well, they're quite good.. in some parts the drums seem to be out of synch.. maybe you would like to add them again with more sync or maybe somebody can add organic drums to my track..
@ Xedora:
yeah! do it man!
@ 13hourstoparadise:
no worries man, maybe you can tell me how to add the distorsion myself if you can't do it by now..
but there's no rush at all..
and here's two versions of Digital Bath that i recorded yesterday: choose one of the two, i prefer the one that says "Final".
Digital Bath (http://rapidshare.com/files/226203373/Digital_Bath.mp3/)
Digital Bath (Final) (http://rapidshare.com/files/226203374/Digital_Bath__Final_.mp3/)
working on Change, Like Linus and Bored.
Here is now my version of Change (In The House of Flies)
Change (ITHOF) (http://rapidshare.com/files/226577759/Change_Final_.mp3/)
Hope you like it...
uhh... there is so much going on here with different songs etc.. who is running this show? haha..
ryan would like to take whatever is ready into the studio to record vocals.. but.. uh.. i am kinda lost in this thread...
chi's mom told me last night chi is responding to therapy.. he still isn't out of danger.. but his vitals are good. they are still trying to find the source of the infection.. so please keep the prayers/thoughts etc coming...
one love for chi,
gina
Here are the other two songs: Bored and Like Linus.
Just choose between the two of the songs.. i think both are ok, but u may find some difference between them..

I just wanted to offer my services... I run a recording studio based out of a converted master bedroom in my house and use protools, cubase, live, garageband and logic.. I have tons of mics and insruments. I also play guitar and bass and have drum recording capabilities.
I might mess around with some covers as well and upload what I come up with...
www.myspace.com/bangbang240 has some pics of my studio and the song on my profile is a demo from my band...
Nice studio...

Are you plugging your guitar in directly or recording an amp? If you are recording directly you should use an amp emulator such as Guitar Rig 3.

I believe you can download a demo of guitar rig for free.. It even has a preset called "Defsounds". I think its meant to sound like My Own Summer. But you can play with all kinds of settings and get really great tones out of it.

Hey everyone, I'm sorry I dropped the ball with this...
I joined a local LA band, we are about to start playing shows and I still have a few more songs to learn and perfect... I had to buy a new bass, which is great, but I'm still without a monitar for my recording PC. Its really fucking hard to do much without it. We are going to record an album in Florida, I hope I will be able to reserve some time to dedicate to this...
