Title: The Oceansize Thread
Post by: lostpilot on Dec 08, 2009, 10:23 PM
I cannot believe we didn't have one.
Probably crashed with the other threads.. lulz.

Anyway, I watched Effloresce DVD (from Feed to Feed boxset) and oh was it a good experience! I can't believe how good Oceansize are live; I mean I watched Frames DVD (not the Feed to Feed boxset one), and yes it was awesome, but all in all it was not like a show or something. And now watching one of my favourite albums being played from start to end, oh my, what a lovely experience!

I'm sooooooooo waiting for their new full length album.
EP was cool, but I want MOAR

You shouldn't have missed that concert, man. A couple weeks ago I went to their gig, and it was AWESOME DUDE. And I'm not just saying that because I was stoned out of my mind. They played 3 songs from the upcoming album, which sounded exquisitely. One of my most anticipated albums of 2010.

I know. I feel shitty.
Though I'd never get the money to get there.
It's like a 15 hour drive, a shitload of money on everything..
Man, sucks :(

Pre-order the CD or get it on iTunes :) This band needs as much support in the US as possible or else they might not be able to ever successfully tour the US.

Just saying.

And you're still a dick. Showing off with that picture is like the lamest thing ever. That is the opposite of what I enjoy about this forum. All of the time people post links and won't even consider to make a remark like "don't forget to buy the cd, because that'll help the artist"
because if I enjoy something, I'll buy it anyways. And I'm sure most people do. And if they don't, it's not me to judge them.

Anyways, as soon as I find the leak, I will post a link.
Title: Re: The Oceansize Thread
Post by: skinnypuppy on Aug 25, 2010, 09:05 PM
And as soon as you post it I will report it ;)

All I'm doing is having some fun. Chill the fuck out, brah. Boofuckinghoo I have the CD and won't leak it. Do you have no patience or respect for artists? If the band decides to stream the album, then listen to it that way and make a decision off that. They actually get some royalty money off of album streams!  Leaking albums like this, by a band like Oceansize, affects them greatly in the US.

Right on, man. Doesn't matter if the album leaks, I'm going to buy it either way if it's any good. Posting pictures of the album, and being arrogant about it, isn't going to make me want to pre-order the album.

Yes, I understand that you want to keep leaks away to improve the overall sales so the band members can get royalties for the art they've done. But you have got to admit, you acted like a total dick by posting the picture of the physical album. It's like whoa you people suck so much for not having this and I am so above you with my privileges. That is not cool, cause I have been waiting a long time for this album and your actions do not make the wait any better. And your actions are not inspiring to pre-order.. and basically there doesn't need to be an incentive for pre-ordering - the fans that love the band and want to give back will order the album anyway, I do this all the time.

All in all, yes, your actions will make SharingLungs a limited community on the matters of the album leak, but you will not be able to cleanse whole internet.

THERE WILL BE LEAKS. lol

I don't really have anything against Mayer. He's a talented dude. Not a fan, but not a hater either.

Okay, so the new album..

don't read this if you haven't listened yet - otherwise you might be influenced by my thoughts.
Well, definitely not what I expected.. at some level. I guess the trippy/dreamy Oceansize is gone - and they most probably will never create something as concrete in these terms as Effloresce. But the album is definitely a step somewhere (can't say back or forth, just aside), evolution is obvious.

Major standouts of the album - SuperImposer (obviously), Oscar Acceptance Speech, Silent / Transparent. The album is definitely a grower, though I am not sure if there is something beyond what I am hearing now. Musically, the album is up-beat, technically difficult, and experimental to a certain level (yeah, It's My Tail and I'll Chase It If I Want To), but the band stopped inventing new ways to sound, just basically recycle what they have been doing best and experiment in timings and different timing and rhythm collisions. What this album lacks is emotional involvement.. I can't say previous albums were all emotional, but this album lacks emotion whatsoever.. Basically only my three favorite songs express the feelings I was looking for. It's not a bad thing though - Oceansize are traversing through whole different emotions anyway.

Before the grow - only 7/10.
Gave the new one 3 spins, and I'm really, really liking it... A lot. "Oscar Acceptance Speech" is amazing. This is the first release I'm going to buy since "Effloresce"

After 3 full listens, baked, with headphones, eating spaghetti, rubbing my left tendril, and starching my socks... 3.5/5

it's pretty damn good, but unfortunately yet another album with a bit too much screwing around and too few songs that really stand out. "It's My Tail And I'll Chase It If I Want To" is already one of my favorite songs by them though. and the album opener is pretty awesome.

I've listened to it four times today and I can easily see this becoming my favorite Oceansize album. I love every song on it.

Pretty incredible that a band can put out 4 near flawless albums in a 7 year span.

Edit: Just NOW I realize that the album cover is a woman's body. Haha, I thought it was two birds or something.

Yeah, Vessels are also supporting their Copenhagen gig. Never heard their music before (Vessels), but apparently a lot of you SL'ers are digging them.

But, GODDAMN I am excited to see Oceansize!!!

I think you'll enjoy Vessels. they're a really great yet underrated band. They should get more coverage imo.Try their "White Fields and Open Devices". A GREAT record.

I saw Vessels support Oceansize last time they played here in London. Great band.

This time when I see Oceansize in London, YNDI HALDA will be supporting  :D

I really, REALLY hope they'll end the set with Ornament/the Last Wrongs. That would be amazing.

They ended with Women Who Love Men when I saw them a few weeks back

Really good concert. Lead singer was fucking drunk, but he still played and sang flawlessly.

It got a little boring midthrough...personally, I think this is more of a "headphone" band than a live band for me.

They ended with Ornament and it was just beautiful.

Highlight song: Build Us a Rocket Then...

That song is simply HUGE live.

4/5.

I'm leaving for Oslo right a bout nowish. Stoked as hell for tonight, Not so stoked on having to sleep at the trainstation afterwards. I forgot to book a hotel room, and lady gaga is playing in Oslo aswell this weekend, so there's no rooms left in the whole city. Not in the cheap hotels at least.

Best concert i've been to in quite a while. Both bands delivered like a mafacka, and oceansize ended on women who love men who love drugs, which was awesome. I knew i would enjoy seeing vessels live too, but they were even better than i expected. And I didn't have to sleep on the floor of the trainstation like i thought i would. Brilliant night!

Could any of you by any chance upload the feed to feed cds. I can't find any good download links anywheres.

Sure. I can either upload it or you get it from me through soulseek. Both works fine for me.

i don't use soulseek, don't know how it works. But if that's easier i could download it i guess.

I finally listened to the new album all the way through tonight. I really wasn't impressed by the songs I heard before the cd was released and out of total disappointment didn't even give the album a chance. Now i have to say that I deserve to be repeatdly kicked in the nuts, because it's a fucking ridiculously awesome album.

Oceansize's latest album, Self Preserved While the Bodies Float Up, is fantastic. They streamlined their sound, yet still sprinkle their songs with that same spacey magic. "Pine" is such a tear-jerker.

For some reason I just can't get in to Frames. I don't like Mike's melodies at all, but the music it good otherwise. Effloresce is my favorite.

I think Frames is too long for its own good. Actually my least favorite Oceansize album. First 3 songs are amazing though.

Everyone Into Position is easily my favorite.

Ok so I've been listening to Frames and I have to say it's not even half as bad as I remember it being. Still def not my favorite, but a pretty solid album.

A band like Oceansize can hardly release crappy music, so my guess is if you like one album of theirs, you can hardly dislike another. It's all a matter of taste, my favorites are still Effloresce and Everyone Into Position, but the other albums are good too. It took me a while to get into Self Preserved..., but now I love it.

I guess Mike was making more money from being second guitarist of Biffy Clyro anyway...

Four albums and a bunch of EP's, that is not the worst back catalogue the world has ever seen.

I've seen them once during the Everyone Into Position era, once during the Frames era, and once a couple months before the release of Self Preserved... Really happy to have seen them a couple times over the years.

Since you work at their label, do you have any idea why they broke up?

I don't know. I'm not coming back to Effloresce as much as Frames. Frames is essentially more complex and mature. Nothing can top first three songs. And everything else.

For me at least, it changes week to week. Same with ISIS for that matter.

But lately it has been Effloresce, mostly because it's one of the few cd's left in my car.
