Title: Albums of the week 2011, week 4.

The Mire - Volume II

Probably my favorite album at the moment, well it was until the king of limbs was released. It didn't seem to get much attention in the leak thread, so i guess most people just skipped it, but for those who did, you shouldn't have. Last fm has the Mire tagged as post-metal, i guess you could call it that, but this album is definitely something i could see gain popularity with people who like all kinds of heavy music. I'm not good with explaining what bands sound like, but this is definitely something i think most people on this board would enjoy. funfact: members from Bossk and Centurion

My favorite track: Shadows

Thomas Dybdahl - One day you'll dance for me, New York City

Norwegian singer/songwriter with a fantastic voice. I always liked him, but over the last year i've been listening to this album so much, i think it's brilliant. According to last fm "His music is melancholic and soulful - often low-key, in traditional singer-songwriter style. He is often compared to the likes of similar artists such as Damien Rice, Jeff Buckley and Nick Drake." I'd say that's accurate.
Fun fact: My dad was this guys teacher when he was a kid.

my favorite track: don't lose yourself

Benevento/Russo duo - Best reason to buy the sun
(http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_K7yL3QJj4S0/Sg2fJl2V76I/AAAAAAAAABk/-Sa0szHTsKY/s320/best_reason.jpg)
http://www.sendspace.com/file/z868yz (http://www.sendspace.com/file/z868yz)
Jazz/rock duo from New York. With Marco Benevento on keys, and Joe Russo on drums. Someone posted this album on the board ages ago. Probably 5 or 6 years ago or something. I'm guessing it was poofing acid, or wharf rat or whatever pseudonym he worked under back in the day. I fell in love with this album on the first listen and i still love it.
May not float the boat of every member in here, but i think it would float a few.

My favorite track: Vortex or Sunny's song

Steven Wilson - Insurgentes
(http://hangout.altsounds.com/geek/gars/images/2/insurgentes.jpg)
http://www.sendspace.com/file/5etg90 (http://www.sendspace.com/file/5etg90)
Steven Wilson is the singer and guitarist of Porcupine Tree. I've fallen out of love with porcupine tree, and haven't really enjoyed them much the last few years. I don't know why, but most of their stuff just doesn't do it for me anymore.. This album, coming from the same creative mind, understandably still sounds like PT at times. But it's so varied, and some of the tracks sound so much more raw than any of the PT stuff that it just sounds better somehow. I don't know, it's still prog rock/metal i guess, but there's elements from so many other genres too, from electronica to doom. I think it's bad ass.
Sounds like:
if you can't be assed to listen through the whole thing, listen from 4:30 and onward.
Steven Wilson - Salvaging (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gl2OJe5TwdQ#)
My favorite track: Salvaging

Chet Baker - The Best of Chet Baker Sings

If you're in the mood for something cooler, perhaps some cool jazz, then do yourself a favor and download this mother. I'm sure you all know the name, but if you haven't heard anything from Chet Baker yet, this would be a good chance to do so. Cool/vocal jazz at it's finest.

The sendspace link didnt work properly for Benevento/Russo duo. Started the download but could never finish the dowload, could be just me though.

Downloaded it from another link, and I liked it! It was a rather versatile album in the end, all tracks were pretty solid, maybe Sunny's Song and 9X9 being my favorites.

Was it you who uploaded it back in the day? I can't even remember, it was so long ago. Anyways, if it was you, thank you. They're so good.

This one needs more time to sink in for sure. And I see that as a good thing, as it usually leads to a long term affection to the artist or the album. Lots of stuff going on on this album for sure. First view from me is that the album is really fun and interesting, if something can be called a "summer album", this would be it, it just screams summer, sun, eating ice cream haha, I dont know why but it does, and I like it ;)

But yeah, like said, this one needs more than a couple of listens to really sink in fully. Thanks guys!
