if i had seen tool back in like 97 they'd be my number one, however i saw them in 2007 and while i was a fanboy at the time and the light show was spectacular, they don't fucking do anything. danny is a beast though. maynard is BORING.

Living in South Africa I've been somewhat limited with regards to the bands I've been able to see live.
I saw Korn while I was in Dublin just after they released 'Untouchables' and it was a brilliant concert.
None of my friends there liked Korn so I went alone, met some cool people which I had drinks with at the pub before the concert.
I got lost in the crowd at the concert but everyone was jumping up and down and going crazy - it was a lot of fun and I knew all of the songs.
They had very cool images playing on a large screen behind them and glittery papers falling from the ceiling - they played very well and it was a great concert.
Two years ago they came to South Africa but the concert wasn't nearly as intense or as good.
Also it was after their untitled album - they played a lot of songs from that album so I preferred the setlist of the Dublin concert.
I saw Chris Cornell about 2 years ago here in South Africa - he was brilliant and he played a lot of Soundgarden songs including some from Badmotorfinger.
His voice sounded great, just like it did around the time that album was released.
Soundgarden has always been one of my favourite bands and that was definitely a top 3 concert.
I've also seen Garbage supported by Placebo.
I'm a huge Placebo fan now but was just getting into them back then (they had just released 'Without You I'm Nothing' so I didn't appreciate them as much as I would now at the time.
My friend provided a lot of entertainment that night though by getting very drunk on cheap boxed wine and ending up in an ambulance so he provided a lot of entertainment which was a lot of fun.
I've also seen Live, a band I really liked at the time - a very good concert, good sound, band was tight ; Lenny Kravitz - never a huge fan though ; Def Leppard - wasn't a fan but went for a laugh - band were very professional and tight and I enjoyed it.
I'm a big fan of pre-2000 Smashing Pumpkins.
They came to South Africa after cancelling the first time.
What a dissapointment, it was like they didn't want to be there at all.
They played obscure versions of the songs, rushed through the set, were disrespectful to the audience, making snide comments amongst themselves while barely engaging with the audience and were all round terrible - attitude and sound.
That is probably the biggest dissapointment I ever had.
It was a terrible feeling because I was such a huge fan.
I've never ever been to a concert where a band just made it so obvious they did not want to be there.
They really made it terrible on purpose - it is really a terrible feeling when a band you love does that to you.
I couldn't listen to their CD's for months afterwards and thought at the time I'd throw away their CD's and never listen to them again.
Billy and James in particular had such a bad attitude.
D'arcy didn't say anything and barely moved, she just stood there lifeless the whole night while Billy and James seemed to make remarks and private jokes quietly to each other about the audience and where they were playing.
That would have been ok if the music was good but they sounded terrible.
I can't be sure but I seem to remember there being songs they would just stop playing half way through and then go into long directionless jams.
Barely 1 song was played properly, they seemed to play different versions of almost everything.
I remember Today for e.g being barely recognisable - the only way I could tell they were playing 'Today' was through recognizing the lyrics.
I think this was really poor as here was an audience who had never had the opportunity to hear any of the songs they loved live before and Billy was just not going to give them what they wanted to hear.
Imagine you've never seen Deftones live and only have 1 chance to do so.
You go to their concert excited about hearing 'Change' or 'Be Quiet and Drive' for e.g. and they totally butcher these songs on purpose and are just totally disinterested in even being there - not cool at all.
I have to say I idolized Billy Corgan as a teenager but I came to realise what a complete egotistical prick he is in reality.
He ruined the legacy of the band and the music for me that night.
I hear he's the same now at concerts.
I read a while back about him refusing to play old songs like DIsarm or Today and would only play new material.
He justifies this by saying that he doesn't want to turn into Bon Jovi, living in the past, playing 'Living on a Prayer' or 'Bad Medicine' at every concert as the only means to please the audience.
What Billy doesn't realise is that in order for the audience to want to hear more of the newer material, lessening his reliance on older stuff, it's actually got to be good!
You can't force people into liking your new stuff, if you write something good it will happen on it's own.
If you can't write any good new material, all you'll be remembered for is your old hits.

Staind. I really hate to say it... but when these guys were on tour with Korn back in like 2000 or 1999, holy fuck beans they brought it. It was all shit from Dysfunction to boot!
