Okay. These guys are ridiculously awesome. I've always just had a few albums of them in my library, but i recently decided to download more, and i'm suddenly realizing how stupid i was to just keep listening to the same two albums over and over. God i love me some Neurosis.
Their stuff has always interested me. They are similar to Isis right? What would be a good album to start off with?
They are kinda similar to Isis, yes. I'd start off with Times of Grace.
They have a very strong vibe that is NOT Isis-like.
It's that all industrial / tribal / less melodic / chaos vibe imo
still, a great band

i'd start off with the eye of every storm and then times of grace. great records by a great band.
gonna agree with the Times of Grace suggestions. Great album.
just listen to this beast! Neurosis - Times of Grace - The Doorway (HD w/Lyrics) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1glBp6zgYWA#ws)
I love Neurosis.
This is one of my favorite live videos ever:

Their bassist looks like someone who escaped a mental hospital. Check his face at the 0:50 mark. Haha.
So good. I like a band that fucking mean it. These guys aren't fucking around. And the bassist does indeed look like a crazy movie villain.
I once listened to an album heavier than Through Silver In Blood
actually that's a lie

His growl/scream, near the end of the song, is fucking terrifying!
All three have great voices. But Scott and Steve are fucking ridiculous.

QuoteNEUROSIS: Title Of Tenth Full-Length From Musical Pioneers Revealed
(http://www.earsplitcompound.com/site/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/Neurosis_2012_04_lowres-e1344865709102.jpg)
It is said that great art has the power to take us outside of ourselves and bring us closer to ourselves simultaneously. Few bands have accomplished this rare feat on a more profound and consistent basis than NEUROSIS. For nearly three decades, their music has touched the hearts and minds of young men and women seeking contact with something beyond the physical world, something intangible, something that expresses the inner tumult of the human condition in a way that transcends time and space. Something that not only provokes questions but maybe even hints at answers.
Since 1985 this matchless force has surpassed the boundaries of any genre, never ceasing to mutate and progress their songwriting and sonic delivery, and never failing to mesmerize audiences both in the studio and onstage. And as the anticipation from their diehard fanbase reaches a boiling point, this week NEUROSIS unveil the title of their tenth full-length studio creation, which will manifest itself as Honor Found In Decay.
The follow-up to their acclaimed 2007-released Given To The Rising album, the music on Honor Found In Decay is both torturous and transcendent. It is the ongoing exposition of a vast internal dialogue that seems to carry the weight of eons. With the right kind of ears and eyes, it can seem like the trials and tribulations of mankind are being channeled through five individuals: Steve Von Till, Scott Kelly, Noah Landis, Jason Roeder and Dave Edwardson. And yet? They will be the first ones to tell you that they are just regular people trying to make sense of the world around them. Aided by Josh Graham, their resident visual guru, they transmit their interpretations through multiple sensory planes. The degree to which Neurosis allows them to step out of their everyday lives is the distance between one and zero, the distance between thinking and doing, the distance between this minute and the one that may or may not follow. Which is to say: NEUROSIS takes them outside of themselves and brings them closer to themselves. Simultaneously.
This next chapter in the evolution of NEUROSIS will see worldwide release through the band's own Neurot Recordings this Autumn, in Germany October 26th, in the UK October 29th, and in North America on October 30th.
Further details on Honor Found In Decay will be made available over the coming weeks.

You crafty bastard! hahahahah
I'm a download that even though I'm going to buy it in some form anyways (physical CD if I can find it at the local HMV, iTunes version if I can't...)
My Heart for Deliverance is such an unusual sound for Neurosis. So positive.

September 23rd.
I am very excited about this. Hopefully this will bring them to Denmark, so I can finally cross seeing Neurosis live off my bucket list.
Where were you last tour? Pretty sure they dropped by denmark then.
They did, but I wasn't in town... :(

IT LEEEEAAAAKKEEDD...
oh shit! Have you checked it out?
It's been on repeat. Listened about 6 times now. I absolutely love it.
The short (40 min) runtime makes for a more focused album, while still maintaining the intensity of Neurosis' sound.
This is probably my favorite Neurosis album since Times of Grace.
Holy fuck, don't get my hopes up too high.
Haha! I hope you'll dig it.
I didn't LOVE the last couple Neurosis albums and they took quite a few spins for me to get into them.
With 'Fires within Fires', it was instant gratification (just as when I listened to Times of Grace for the first time.)
Report back when you have checked it out :)
I've had the album on repeat through the weekend. They've done it again. It's solid as always. I don't think i would go so far as to say it's their best since times of grace, but it's hard to determine where it would fit on a list. Everything they've done from Through Silver in Blood up until now is basically perfect in my opinion. Maybe Times of Grace, A Sun that Never Sets, and The Eye of Every Storm being the perfectest.
Glad you dig it!
Through Silver In Blood will always be my favorite... and just one of my favorite albums ever in general.
Recently found out about these guys. Amazing stuff.
