Thank you for this share, quite anecdotic; the first instrumentalized deftones song to ever leak online. It's quite interesting to note how poorly chino's guitar is played, and still didn't harm at all the song's vibe (in fact, i'm quite convinced it enhanced it).
lot of pretty details going on background in the chorus and stuff. Never noted that Harmonic chi puts in the bridge, also. Really tasteful.
I remember a while back someone posting the Change single with like 4 songs...it had the instrumental, the studio version and two other versions with high and low guitars or something like that. Too bad my computer has been wiped since then or I'd post it for you all.

I can almost hear this on ST without Chino's voice. Seems like a big difference between the two records, Chino's voice, demeanor and style. Without it here, I can hear this music on ST. It's like the mood to me is set by Chino after hearing these instrumentals I guess. Thanks, love it!
Have you noticed that the instrumental version and the CD version of this song are different? (besides the removed vocal track of course ;D). If you compare both tracks you will notice that the snare drum is not the same on both tracks (among other small details), on the instrumental version it has more reverb, actually it reminds me of Cherry waves snare drum and on the final mix (or cd version) its more "dry".
Maybe this was an early mix of the song... very interesting version nonetheless.

I agree, Mediafire's web-based uploader is a complete waste of time specially if you are using a mobile internet connection (HPSDA/WCDMA) but i recommend you "Mediafire Express", the software allows you to pause/resume the upload and prevents "Connection Errors".

been listening again tonight, i cannot believe how good these are. Every song is really great, wow.
The whole diamond eyes album is really impressive, I am getting a whole new perspective on the music. Frank is unreal on this album.
Diamond Eyes instrumentals are great. It made me appreciate Diamond Eyes (the song) more and Sextape is really nice. There's also a lot more you can hear in 976 without the vocals.
Production on the vocals totally killed Frank's work.
Risk has now become my favorite track on the album after hearing these instrumentals. 8)

Remember reading about that, I think Serj's vocals included screamings and high notes.

Hmm I remember reading about having Chino kicked out of the band. There was one interview with Steph and Chino together and Steph said something like "we were thinking about kicking Chino out of the band...." I appreciate your help, I really wanted to know the SNW details since I love the album so much. Thanks!

Terry date is great but I liked the new vocal approach Chino took on SNW but not as much on Diamond Eyes. I think its time for a change again after this new record that comes out.
She meant production wise, mainly.
You can really hear Frank's part in 976-Evil in the instrumental. I've had that keyboard part (Chorus) stuck in my head for a few days since i listened to instrumental. I can't really hear it that much on the cd version.

now, this has been bothering me for 12 years and i was hoping the Change 7 track mastering cd would finally answer my question, but it hasn't. on the album version (which is the version we all know and love from WP), what is the loud POP at 1:40 when the 2nd chorus kicks in? i think it's the vocal track but i cant be sure. i thought it was an over modulation on the snare, but listening to all the reference tracks, i can tell it's def not the drums. i only listened to snippets of the different versions from the 7 track, so i didn't listen intently, but it seems like they were using a few different vocal tracks when determining the best mix.
if anyone can answer what the fuck that popping sound is, you get major, major kudos.

Dang those instrumental albums are nice. Diamond Eyes and SNW are fantastic. Diamond Eyes (the song) is way better to me as an instrumental. I know very simply why, the chorus. Never liked that as a Deftones chorus. It really makes you appreciate the album in a different way. So many details on DE you miss with vocals. Not that it's better without vocals of course.

Ok so by opening them in audacity the stuttering and artifacts have gone but they're still super fast, here's a screenshot showing the difference in duration, the top one is the full track and the bottom one is the instrumental, aall of them are like this.

I did download it multiple times and cross checked the size for an incomplete download or something but they all seem like succesful/complete downloads

im sorry guys. i don't know how to fix that. i could transcode them and theoretically that would fix any corruption but it would sound pretty low quality then, it's 256kbps as it stands.

It's the same in all players and even the file properties show that they have a shorter duration not just while playing, what kind of format is it? it says mp3 but aswell as trying it on a range of applications on my PC I tried it on my phone and it says they're incompatable when they work with the thousands of other mp3 files I have, it's a really weird issue I've had similair things happen with corrupt zip file extracts but I even tryed playing them from within the zip and they were the same.
Edit: tried itunes and it works must be some weird apple format because I tried VLC and Foobar which usually play everything
they are mp3s, i don't know what they were encoded with though.

Yeah thanks djzap I love hearing all this instrumentals for subtle things Frank does, you can always hear his presence in the final tracks but not what he's doing if that makes sense lol, also they're super handing for learning the guitar parts.
