I bought White Pony the day it was released. I listened to the album 100+ times that year. The version I got was the "Silver Cover" which does not include the song "Back To School (Mini Maggit)" at all. The album I bought that day is a masterpiece.
I bought another copy a while later (Black Cover, I think) which has "Back To School (Mini Maggit)" added as track 1. It just never sounded right to me. Feiticeira was just such a face-melting intro, I didn't think anything belonged before it.
I think it is fairly common knowledge that the band didn't intend for "Back To School" to be on the album. It also suffers from different mastering that makes it louder than the rest of the album.
Fast forward to the age of the Ipod, I have started to make lots of customized versions of albums. We can edit albums any way we want now. If you want to get rid of 30 minutes of silence, then do it. If there are two songs on one track, you can split them. If you think a song just sucks ass, then remove it.
I made "Back To School" track 1 on my custom version of "B-Sides & Rarities", and it sounds great.
Do you have "Back To School (Mini Maggit)" on your version of White Pony, did you add it on to the B-Sides album, or do you just pretend it doesn't exist?

I'll keep my reply VERY simple:
Hell fucking no. That song is atrocious, and is hated by most fans and the band alike. It was only put on a version of White Pony to please Maverick Records. The End.
Fuck that song.
This topic should probably be consolidated with the Damone topic.
No it shouldn't be on White Pony especially as the first track Feiticeira was a great opener and before back to school WP was a play through album , It should have been a bside on a single or something.
I think people exaggerate how bad this song is, (not to say its ANYWHERE NEAR the best). To me its a demonstration of how Deftones can put their own twist on any genre and still make it sound good. But yes, I dont really think it goes too well as an intro to White Pony even though that is how I heard it originally myself.
I never listen to that song. My version of White Pony is black, and it has The Boys Republic on it :)

If the band hates that song so much, why do they play it live sometimes? I guess all that hate is gone by now.
When was the last time they played it? it has got to be at-least 10 years ago.

Reading 2011 .. not sure if that's the last time, but they played it then.
Whoa that recent that surprises me, I don't think they really hate it they seem to have fun when they do play it live I think they were more annoyed they were forced to make it and put it on the album especially when they were making a effort to distance themselves from that "nu metal" stuff ,as far as it rap metal goes it's not bad and the video's pretty cool, I like it how the other guys keep popping up and randomly fist bumping Chino as he skate's around.

This,I have the red one(well,I own 3 versions, grey, white, and red,red is the only one I have ripped). It's a shame this track is pretty much forgotten. It's one of my favorite tracks from them.I would love to see it released more widespread one day(B-Sides and Rarities 2,someday,maybe?).I've shown it to may people throughout the years who had WP for years and never heard of it.
I have the B.T.S. EP as well,so when I want to hear it,that's where I go.Though I'll admit, its been a long time since that happened.
i put back to school right after pink maggit and the boys republic. to make it more like a 'bonus track'

IT S IN THE WHITE VERSION
When I downloaded the White Pony leak in May 2000, Back to School was the closing song, not Pink Maggit.
I bought the grey version and there's no Back to School nor The Boys Republic. I guess the early releases were the final mix the band delivered to Maverick and since the sales gone mad they asked for a hit single to push the sale$ a little more.

Original grey didn't have Mini Maggit, but it was available to download when you put it in your pc.Only the red and black ones had The Boys Republic.Only the white ones (the most common, and the one you still see on the shelf) had Mini Maggit.
It was on the leak, but it was a slightly different mix.
Welcome to Deftones school kids:
Versions released:
- Silver/gray cover - regular version.
- Red/Black - Limited edtion with Boys Republic added as an extra song.
2001 Re-issue:
- White cover - Has BTS added before the tracklist.
A true fan should own all these versions.
Maverick wanted a 'single' on the album for commercial reasons. BTS was a leftover, left out because the band didn't like it. Maverick insisted on a re-issue with this as their new single....
They have played it A LOT in 2010 and 2011.
Hey Sly,have you ever heard of a Blue Version?A buddy of mine had this back in the day.It was just like the original silver/white cover with the pony in the bottom corner,as far as I an remember it was exactly identical to the original,it just had blue instead of silver, same disc.I tried to find it for myself years later, for collectors purpose's and I couldn't find any proof it ever existed.
Don't know about this. Some silver versions come across like blu-ish so It's probably faded or not printed well or something.

I own them all and with the recent silver HT exclusive that brought the total number of copies to 8.
4 CD, 3 vinyl, and 1 cassette.

A true fan should own all these versions.
And why is that?
I get it when people want to own as much merchandise, band memorabilia, bootlegs and whatever there is as they can , but c'mon man! Like there is anything wrong with owning an album once, much less doesn't it make others a less worthy fan.
I was just talking man, don't go look for deeper meaning behind it when I say stuff like that. There is no definition of what makes a true fan I guess.
When it came out I bought all of them also to have The Boys Republic and Back To School. This was before or at the time downloading was just starting with Napster. Collecting is something different than being a fan.
Anyway, don't even ask how many versions I have hahaah

Amazing collection, Sly!
There are two versions of BTS, in one the intro is longer, the chorus changed "her" to "him" and the ending is also a bit different.
Somebody knows on which CD/LP or MC this version was released? (if it ever was released)

It was never released. It was on the first WP leak before it came out.
I only listen to the silver cover version. BTS got me tired and I just don't like it anymore since a couple of years... The Boy's Republic is just not right to be right after Pink Maggit, that song is one of the greatests last tracks that I've ever listened to.
Yeah, I got "Back To School" and "Boy's Republic" both on my custom B-Sides & Rarities album.
On a side note, is there any way to still buy the Silver Cover brand new online, or is it long gone? I usually only see the other covers around in stores.
Deftones and Poison the Well split was fucking sickkkkkk.
amazing collection sly

Look what I found: http://www.musicstack.com/item/12013768 (http://www.musicstack.com/item/12013768)
It's not the first time I came across this Blue version, but I don't really know if it really exists.
Back To School is one of the only gay songs they've wrote, so no it doesn't belong on the record. but if they made money off of it then cool I would too. I remember before the album came out I downloaded a rough copy on napster, it was like 30 seconds longer. Pink Maggit is the only good version in my opinion and I remember hearing the intro before be quiet and drive at ozzfest 99.
As one who never witnessed "Feiticeira" being the first track of White Pony, I have to say that it's not all that bad. I like its energy, but that's about it. The lyrics could have been more original for the song, rather than taking lines from Pink Maggit. I also gotta say that I like Pink Maggit a lot more. And yes, I know. Back to School (Mini Maggit) was just some commercial song that they were asked to record and play, and Deftones themselves hate it.
So there's my opinion and some facts on "Back to School (Mini Maggit)".
I don't hate the song as much as other people do, but I enoy the song. Usually when I do listen to White Pony, its one of the limited edition ones because I enjoy The Boys Republic more.
basically it's a good song for teenagers.
I don't think Mini Maggit is a bad song, but White Pony is perfect as it is, and would only get worse if you threw Mini Maggit on it.
I actually used to really like this song and didn't like Feiticeira at all for a while. It was on my playlist for when I'd shower (shower-core music) along with some other 'Tones tunes and Zelliack, and I could never figure out why people hated this song so much, and truth is, I still can't figure out why it's hated, but I do definitely agree it's awkward on the tracklisting, and overall just doesn't fit the album at all.
One thing I really like is how it borrowed lyrics from Pink Maggit, so when the album was on its last track, it almost felt like everything was coming full-circle, and that justified it being on the album for me, but now I just wish Feiticera had that chorus somehow instead. It's a great song for a b-sides collection but it ultimately does not fit the vibe or general atmosphere of White Pony enough for me to actually consider it part of the album.

I have my iTunes organized where alternate versions are denoted with asterisk's. So for
White Pony, I have placed "Back to School (Mini-Maggit)*" and "The Boy's Republic*" at the end of the album, mainly to denote that they were not included on the original release--however, they are b-sides and outtakes. So they do deserve to be part of this era of the Deftones in some way...this is my way of reflecting that.
With that said, "The Boy's Republic" is much more a fitting song for this album than "Back to School (Mini Maggit)." However, "The Boy's Republic" seems like a song that would fit more nicely had it been on
Around the Fur, as it sounds like a song written around this era--maybe not mixed and mastered, but certainly written.
I consider myself a huge fan of several bands, but I don't think I would ever get multiple copies of the same release, even if it's something different. The reason is that I like way too many bands to start doing that, having several copies of the same album.
I'll take Mini Maggit any day of the week over ANYTHING on DE and KNY
last year I re bought the black special copy. I love the boys republic, that's the winner. The chord progression and melody is actually probably the best on the album.
Summarizing, hell yes.
In my opinion, Feiteceira is the right opening for the album and that's how my album is. Now, Back to School (Mini Maggit) is not a suck ass song, I like it, it has a good groove on it but I like Pink Maggit instead. It just sucks that they don't play that version live.
actually back to school is a piss poor song. it's dumb as fuck like 7 words, I don't like that type of shit, stupid raps and lyrics, naw I wanna hear beautiful melodies laced with metaphors, biggest mistake of there career, but necessary to make a little money. I guess there had to be something to take away the perfection of White Pony, knowing in this world there is no perfection.
But you must admit that thanks to that song a lot of people discovered their music and probably got into the previous records and probably most of them are still fan nowadays.
