I occasionally dozed off during the press conference. Sports games, TV functionality, Skype, Kinect, Call Of Duty... *yawn*

Like with the PS4 I'm interested but hesitant and will wait for some reviews and if there are problems (fucking RROD). I know the future is to make the console an entertainment center, but I guess I'm still kind of resisting that. I don't like how you have to install every game, the system won't work unless the Kinect is connected, and you know all these features like the NFL, the DVR and TV functionality, etc will all be additional costs.

As for the games the multiplatform games look great like usual (I'm actually a little excited for CoD). I'm assuming we'll find out more at E3. We need a price and some games. PS4 vs XB One will boil down to exclusive games for me.

I heard about these issues. I was never that into Xbox, but this makes me want the next Xbox even less.

I'm more excited for the PS4.

neither of these new consoles have got me really excited, I'm pretty content to stick with my modded xbox 360. I know alot of the cost of these consoles is going to be for these new social media type features which will never be of use to me. I don't use it now I already have a computer with a keyboard which is much more usable for that stuff.

1984, anyone?

Neither the facial recognition system nor the voice command can be switched off. And why exactly is that... The answer is so they can spy on users and collect tons of data.

Sorry I meant to write "study the users behavior to improve the gaming experience for everyone"

If they go with this, I will buy a second xbox360 so when my first one dies I'll have a replacement.

Since the rumormongers starting whispering about Microsoft's next-generation console over a year ago, one of the most controversial topics has been the fate of used games.
Some reports said the system would make it impossible to play them. Analysts scoffed at this, saying Microsoft wasn't stupid enough to alienate a substantial portion of its audience with such a sweeping move -- not to mention anger its biggest retail partner, GameStop, who sees significant revenue from used game sales.
Today, Microsoft itself finally weighed in on the matter, though if you were hoping for crystal clarity, you're likely going to be a bit disappointed.
"We are designing Xbox One to enable customers to trade in and resell games," the company wrote. "We'll have more details to share later."
A report on Wired, though, indicates that games will be tied to user accounts. Should someone else try to use that disc, they would then be given the option to pay a fee to do so.

That's been corroborated by Kotaku, who was told that Xbox One games will require one-time activation codes. Games will be linked to your Xbox Live account. If you want to play that game using a friend's account on another Xbox One, however, you'll have to fork over the list price.
"The bits that are on that disc, you can give it to your friend and they can install it on an Xbox One," Microsoft VP Phil Harrison told Kotaku. "They would then have to purchase the right to play that game through Xbox Live."
It's a bummer of an answer, though Harrison hedged his bet by noting that the company was working on another solution that would somehow let gamers sell or trade titles online. Either way, this can't please GameStop, who rely on the re-selling of game discs themselves to make a profit on used sales.
Sony, too, had to deal with user fears that the PlayStation 4 wouldn't play used games before it officially announced the system in February. At that system's reveal, though, a company executive spoke definitively about the whispers.
"Used games can play on PS4. How is that?" Shuhei Yoshida of Sony Worldwide Studios told Eurogamer at the time.

LOL @Microsoft

Sony Playstation all the way! :D

I've heard conflicting reports with the whole used game fee thing. Seems like it's a work-in-progress. The only things that're 100% is that Kinect has to be on all the time, and accessories and XBLA games from the 360 won't work (super lame).

Either way, they are fucking up by not coming clean with everything about their hardware and accessories. Which was the whole point of their huge reveal. And the games? They promised 15 exclusives in the first year (not likely but whatever) and there's a little thing called E3 less than 3 weeks away.
Title: Re: Xbox one
Post by: kurtone on May 23, 2013, 02:02 AM
I think they basically thought they could get away with showing the console since that was everyone's gripe with the ps4 conference. I didn't get the whole close the show with a mulitplatform game move either. They better have a lot of answers come e3.
Title: Re: Xbox one
Post by: Hank on May 23, 2013, 03:05 AM
They have a shitload of explaining to do.

I love the 360 ( even after having my launch system RROD and then the replacement sent to me did the same after a few months, only for them to tell me you get 1 repair per year or some shit and just waited to buy the Elite w/ Jasper chip) and still have a shitload of games to check out since I can't play as much as I want these days and when i do, Skyrim and sports titles with my homies eat time up.

The reveal was lame and probably over exaggerated like a nun's tits  . I'm sorry microsoft...It isn't that much of a hassle for me to switch from one component on my TV to another. I love the NFL but I have a 24 hour channel in my cable package along with a box that can record anything I want for that matter. I also can choose what news / music / movies / I want to experience  ( without your box giving me recommendations) with a computer and this magical thing we call the internet.

and EA is so full of shit it makes me sick.

It's hazy, the old discs won't play on ps4. However, they are working on Gaikai, which could have old games playable through the cloud. For a price, probably.

Basically hold on to your current-gen systems.

I'm not a vivid console player, but I have thought a while of getting a PS3. Pretty much just wondering if I should save up for a PS4 or just get the dirt-cheap PS3 and wait with the PS4 until prices drop. The sole reason is that PS has more exclusive non-PC games I'd like to play, and I would like to use it as basically a media center which I hear it does well.

Oh, and because the PS3 can play older games as well, right?

Is price really that huge of an option anymore, especially for people out of high school? I mean if people are willing to spend that type of money on phones and tablets, is a next gen console really expensive?

It's all about exclusives first for me. I haven't dug deep with what's exclusive to which system yet from today's announcements, but I'm really excited for these: The Division, The Crew, Below, Sunset Overdrive, Mirror's Edge, D4, new Plants v Zombies. The Order looks intriguing on PS4 too.

I still want to know more about the PS Cloud though.

Post by: N0S3BLEED976 on Jun 11, 2013, 03:36 AM
Sony announced that the PS4 can be used entirely offline without any mandatory log ins every 24h in order to keep playing games and that the console will support used games without any limitation, which means there is no online verification and no restrictrion of doing what you want with your games, whatsoever. There's also no mandatory camera watching you like the Kinect. Even the games they showed were more interesting than those at the Microsoft presentation.

And most importantly, the PS4 will "only" cost 399$. 100$ less that the Xbox One for an overall better more powerful and way more customer-friendly console. The crowd went nuts when they announced the lower price :D

Right now there's just no reason for me to buy an Xbox One anymore. I'm completely amazed and happy by what Sony just pulled off

So are you guys waiting or getting either at launch? I'm probably waiting a year. Maybe prices will drop a bit, and we'll see if there's another Red Ring/Yellow Light of Death.

Plus, most of the games I want are on 360/PS3 for the next year: Watch Dogs, BF4, GTA5, Splinter Cell, Beyond, Destiny. But I am dying for Forza 5 and Killzone.

PS4 it is then, I don't see any reason to buy the Xbox One over the ps4 for $100 more I was more impressed by the ps4's performance and graphics than the Xbox plus I know all that streaming stuff microsoft are pushing won't even apply to my country.Microsoft have really fucked themselves over with all that drm stuff surely it's better to have more people using the console with new and 2nd hand games then to have alot less people using only new games.

The more I read about the 2 before bed last night, the more I am leaning toward PS4. I could care less about connecting every 24 hours, and used game thing is an unconvenience, but I'm still skeptical about the Kinect. It's the reason it's $100 more, plus it needs to be on... I don't know. PS4's upgradeable HDD helps too.

In the end though it's all about games, and granted most are multi-platform, but I really think right now xbone has better exclusives.

The thing about the 24 hour deal that puts me off is even though I will most likely always have the internet I want to be able to still use it in the rare case I don't, it's more about the principle behind it I believe once you've bought it you should be able to use it at your disposable it's like buying a car and having to ring the dealership every day to be able to drive it. Also I don't like the Kinect stuff either it just makes navigating messier and is too sensitive to small rooms and odd lighting plus the voice control is useless with accents, and the fact it always has to be on unsettles the potential for privacy breaches are just too great,  I'm not talking about some big conspiracy  I can just see Microsoft using it as a market research tool for stuff like finding out who is playing what so they can target their advertising more efficiently, this would give Microsoft the opportunity to not just see who is buying the games but actually playing them aswell as the players est age, size and ethnicity and other factors like how many people are involved in the room. The online requirement would allow for the information to be transferred back to them frequently and they have the network and resources to process the content, I'm not saying they would do this I'm just I just don't like the fact they could do it.

Difficult to generalize that. I know appletards who buy every new edition of the iPhone and find that perfectly normal, but who would say that buying a console in general is retarded. Which of course could easily be said vice versa.

Depends on whats important to anyone. For instance I bought a racing bike for 2000 euros ( which in a way was stupid as well cause I cannot lock that motherfucker anywhere outside )  but I probably wouldn't spend 500 euros on a console ever again like I did with the xbox360 back in the day. But also I am turning 30 in two years and thinking about other stuff than video games. So I agree to what Cullision wrote, my gamer days are behind me and I'm not sad about that. Though sometimes I sit together with my old friends I went to school with and we look back in nostalgia, thinking about how much fun we had doing LAN parties. And then I wished for a time machine to bring me back to the year 2000, and we play Unreal Tournament all night long

What is the  fuck is Microsoft even doing? Sony doesn't have to advertise anymore Microsoft is already pushing everyone away. they should never have gone with the always online thing and to ask for $100 more and basically tell people if you don't like it fuck off, it's just not on, I don't want to have to rely on updates from a company who blatantly refuses to listen to what the consumer wants. I still can't believe how badly they've fucked this up I think maybe they over estimate the power of their reputation to sell units, especially since their last console had a horrible reputation of getting RROD, I use to fix rrod 360s and some people may not know but the rrod is just like a warning message and is displayed by many different faults, as in one fault didn't take out all those xboxs but many different ones stemming from poor design, Not just that but the attempts Microsoft made to remedy the issue were pathetic I trust Sony alot more to provide a stable console.

Sony has definitely got a leg up on the competition in the next generation race. They'll have to fuck up pretty badly now for this to turn out in microsofts favor. No doubt i'd go for a ps4 if i decided to buy one of these consoles, but like Black Coffee i probably won't bother with this, gaming just doesn't appeal to me the same way it did a few years ago.

Love the sad trombone. I realize all the hate, but as of now I'm still sticking with MS. They've just got better games. Their push towards the future with the cloud and digital downloads is what I like, they've got some amazing arcade games in the pipeline to go with about 7 exclusives that look awesome.

Here's my list of PS4 games: Primal Carnage, Infamous, Transistor (likely will go multiplatform in the future), and Last Guardian (now on hold). That it?

Not a big console gamer, but I have to say I'm getting real curious about the PS4. No bullshit, just gaming. I haven't owned a TV since... well, ever. So it'd be a pretty expensive purchase. But Tom Clancy's Division looks incredible, and some games I'm really looking forward to, such as Dark Souls II and The Witcher 3 could very well be more enjoyable on console than on PC. I played the PC version of Dark Souls, but it wasn't until I bought a 360 controller I really started enjoying it. Also, playing The Elder Scrolls Online on release would be pretty cool. Even though I dislike the TES games on a whole, that one looks interesting.

Like I said before though, it's important to me that it works well as an entertainment unit, and I'm still waiting on details regarding backwards-compatibility. I've heard different things from people so far.

ps3 games will be available through the gaikai stream service in 2014, question is what the library is going to look like, what it will cost and how it'll play.
This is a huge factor for me. Definitely waiting to see what happens with Gaikai.

Meh, for me it's mostly that there are some PS-exclusive titles and/or console-only games I haven't been able to play yet. It's not the end of the world if I don't get to play them, but if I were to finally get a console, I might as well get one that let's me do just that. And I do play a lot of old games on pc, I don't simply play what's new and cool. I try to avoid games that aren't worth playing years down the road.

It makes me wonder if they planned all of this. Like they wanted to see if they could get away with it, and if it didn't work they could pull a 180...

I just won the day one edition Xbox One with Forza 5 and Ryse,a drink company over here is having a competition where you enter a code from their cans online and for 56 days straight they draw an entry and that person gets the Xbox One pack and I won the first day, stoked I did there was no way I was going to spend over $900 buying the stuff myself, now just have to wait till Nov 22 plus a little more for delivery, Ps4 has been my preference since announcement but there's alot stuff I've been finding out about the Xbox that has made it really appealing, even if I don't like it fuck it, it's free and I can sell it to get a PS4. Is anybody else getting one of next gen consoles when they launch?

I preordered the PS4 from Amazon as soon as it was announced at E3.  Kind of wish I had preordered the Xbox as well since they reversed everything. So looks like I'll miss out on the Day One edition. Best Buy has them back in stock for in store pickup but I live three hours from a best buy and don't want to have to spend the gas money, or pay tax lol. I'll just wait until Amazon restocks.  I still don't like the idea of Kinect being forced onto consumers since its no longer mandatory. I preordered Cod Ghosts, Killzone: Shadow Fall and Watchdogs, but Watchdogs just got delayed, so I may pick up Ass Creed 4 so I have something non shooter to play.

Yeah when I got my Xbox 360 slim I didn't want kinect with it but I guess it's kind of different this time as the Kinect is used a lot more outside of normal kinect games, like the voice recognition is so good on this new version it can be used to during normal games, for instance in Ryse you lead a group of soldiers and if you say "Fire Arrows" they will fire arrows and if your in a room with people talking it can find and isolate your voice, plus the kinect sensor does stuff like track how many people are in the room whilst staying logged in to everyones in the rooms own account and can swap between profiles automatically if you pass the controller to another player, the old Kinect was a gimmick and this new one might be aswell but as a piece of technology it's got me really excited, apparantly it can even read your lips in a pitch black room and can detect your heartbeat by measuring the colour and movements on your face.

I don't think a lot of developers will jump on board with it. Maybe first party games because the developers feel like they will have to. Kinda like how the sixaxis is on ps3.  That's cool as shit you won one. You gonna pick up any other games for it?

Probably none of the other release ones, theres not much that interests me and at over $100 a pop they're not cheap either, Watchdogs looked like a potential until it got delayed which sucks but really I'm stoked I won Forza with it out of the games available that was the only one I really wanted and would've bought myself, I'm thinking between that, Ryse and Fifa 14 which comes as a free download here I should be entertained till some more games come out, still can't believe I won I never win anything and the odds of me being drawn would have been so improbable because the competiton isn't like an entry per code, each time you enter a code you get more bonus entrys and I only did 6 cans which gave me 36 entries but a few other people had around 1000 entrys and a there were a lot who had around 300.

Damn talk about luck. I think Dead Rising 3 looks ok, But that's really the only game that caught my eye. I never played the first one and didn't really like the second one.  There's really not much to get excited about for launch titles for either system.

Dead rising looked alright but what I saw of the gameplay looked quite cartoony and rough like the jumping and running looked weird and unrealistic but it might improve before release, either way those zombie games are usually fun regardless, how could you not have fun with a sledge hammer taped to a concrete saw lol

From what I read the framerate issues and bugs were worked out, I think Ryse was looking was pretty rough too.  Hopefully everything is ironed out before release.

I don't have high hopes for Ryse either the button mashing sequences look like they'd ruin the gameplay, saw a newer clip of deadrising today in that snap machinima announcement and it looks alot better, the movements are natural in the early gameplay it looked like the character was sprinting without really going anywhere, but I liked how the more tactical stuff has been introduced like when he's on the roof and he threw a brick through the window and dropped inside the building and the flares.

Yeah from what I saw Ryse was more or less button mashing and QTE's. I went ahead and decided to see if I could score a day one edition from best buy. If not I'll probably wait until titanfall. Hopefully it won't get pushed back.

I'm really enjoying it. I've played about ten hours and it's only two maps lol. Will be picking up day one for sure.
