Title: Live Volume 2
Post by: III on Sep 20, 2013, 08:35 PM
Ok, so this is my first topic on SL i'm just gonna wing this and hope nobody shares any of those lemon sites lol.

Anyways, I was wondering if anybody actually knows something about the live series they said they were going to put out. All i've heard and been able to get is Volume 1. The problem is that I loved Volume 1 so much and have never heard anything about this since then. Has anyone heard anything new?

The original plan was for the last release to be November 29th (Black Friday). Obviously this has changed.

"A series of seven vinyl exclusive releases with the first release being a Record Store Day exclusive and the last planned to be a Black Friday independent exclusive retail release."

Also I checked recordstoreday.com's black friday releases and didn't see any deftones.

This.

As soon as the Adrenaline record dropped, I couldn't help but anticipate the other albums--still hopeful this project will eventually see it's way to completion at some point.

I've kinda come to expect it from Deftones unfortunately. Entertain Me, Eros (though that one is understandable and not really "abandoned"), the multiple planned live DVD's, and now this. It sucks but oh well. Hopefully these recordings will show up somewhere eventually.

Yes but the band never intended to release it. It was stolen and released online and then Andrew Bennett was going to release it for Chi. Deftones technically never intended to release it sooooo... my point stands!!

It'd be cool to get a fan project together to do the rest of the releases in a similar format. Hold a vote for what four songs from each album people what, do cover art, find the best live recordings available from era, then put 'em up for download.

This is an interesting idea, honestly.  Though I would love to have an official release to complete the intended collection.

Yeah, I agree. I'd love to have them all on vinyl like they originally intended but it probably won't happen at this point.

After lurking this board for 6+ years, I think I finally have something worthwhile to share.

Got this linked to me from a friend (a pretty reliable one) earlier today. I can't speak on who fed it to him, he won't say. Was also informed that there are SIX tracks included, and not just four as with Volume I. Apparently the project wasn't abandoned as we'd all assumed.

I'm no troll nor am I a naïve fangirl -- I've already done my research, and I'm unable to source this image back to anywhere else. I even took a gander at the dutch*deftones tumblr thinking that perhaps Sly had tricked us all once again... But alas, nothing.

Who's stoked?

PS How's that for an introduction? Have me, Sharing Lungs.

Fairly certain it's not Sly, we had discussed making a fan-made but he was gonna use that first fake ATF vinyl he had already dropped. Looks pretty legit to me... But then again, we'll see.

Pretty excited.

Title: Re: Live Volume 2
Post by: III on Mar 26, 2014, 08:29 PM
My theory is that all the tracks have already been picked, and that now their label is choosing when to release each EP because i mean if they released one every year, they would make much more of a profit long term than releasing them in just that one year. So doing them annually would keep them fresh. However, I think the band originally had intended to release them each month from April to November in 2013. Keep in mind though that this is just my take on it.

Post by: Romain on Mar 27, 2014, 02:27 PM
After I shared the Wiki page through my FB page, someone linked me to a torrent, which I've downloaded.... Sounds pretty legit if you ask me. Those tracks have obviously gone through remastering and they all fall into a nice compilation. The performances are pretty awesome as well. I've YouTubed it just for the sake of it. I assume the band will let us know in time if it's true or not by whatever mean, but I'm definitely buying it at this point.

Yeah I'll admit album art had me fooled but then I heard it and released it was fan made there's no way they would use that buzzy version of Dai and I recognised it was from a show V had a while back that he said he loved, Glasgow I think anyway the one where people are throwing shit at Chino and he does that "big window crack" cover thing at the start of a song so it seemed weird when he said it was unheard, not to mention the warner nazis didn't rush in and get it removed lol

When I first heard about the vinyl live project I thought it seemed particularly ambitious for Deftones. A part of me always wondered how far into it they would get before abandoning the idea. I figured they'd at least get out more than one before fucking off. Deftones sure are the kings of wanting to do something cool for the fans and then just being like "fuck it". Guess we'll never get all those sweet sweet ST and SNW live cuts.
Title: Re: Live Volume 2
Post by: Romain on Apr 02, 2014, 09:40 PM
I know! I mean, for Deftones to put actual interest in putting their live stuff out, yeah, it seemed big from the start. When Adrenaline came out, I just really thought it would go on. Giving up on it like that after starting is pretty much a horrible buzzkill. IF it's what happened, then I'm really surprised, in the bad way.

I wonder if it's just because something kept them too busy. If so, it can't just be the fact they want to write new music, they knew they would at some point when they had the idea of the live series.

Probably happens to these guys because when they come up with these ideas they want to execute themselves, so for this they would physically sift through all the recordings and find the one's they liked rather than have someone else do it, which is great quality wise but means stuff doesn't always get done which sucks

Chino had mentioned in some interviews a while ago that he'd already gone through all the material. For the most part all the selections were made or narrowed down. A bunch of pictures of the tapes of old shows were put up on twitter and such I believe. I think they just fucked off and forgot about it honestly. Also the cost of producing 7 series of vinyls was probably just not worth it to them. It's just another Entertain Me (the leak doesn't count as a release), live dvd, Eros (though not quite) situation. Shouldn't we all be used to this by now? Deftones are masters of the tease without delivering.

EDIT: Not to say I don't appreciate the vast selection of material we DO have from the band or that I'm all butthurt that shit like this happens. I just learned not to really get my hopes up or to take these things too seriously at this point. Sometimes shit just doesn't come to fruition for whatever reason.

I think the only material he checked out where some DAT and cassette tapes he got from Wedge (old sound guy) and those where just 1995-1996 tapes. Just assuming and that the others yet have to be picked from other sources.

Prank or not, could someone put this up on Mediafire or something? It's really well done and I'd love to have it in my collection.

So....why not "fool" us a little more and go ahead and do your "jokes" for White Pony thru Koi No Yokan... I don't think any of us will be butt-hurt over that... ;D
