"The Spell of Mathematics" - wtf?! weird title
You're telling meBless you, Ves. Props for your hard work the last few weeks and the stick you've got for doing it.

I don't like it that the closing track is the first single... also the song doesn't have a closing feel to it. In my opinion this should be the opener or maybe one of the first three songs of the album...we're hearing it out of context tho, we have
I’m so emotional lol.
Wish my best mate was still around to hear this he’d be so stoked.
Single dropped 1 week before the “anniversary” of his death, RIP brother.
Thank you Deftones! <3
Catchy closing songs like this one have an advantage: as soon as its done you want to start up the album again!I think it probably will make me do that. The song rips.

GAH where are you non-NZ folks hearing it?We're not passing round or directing people to leaks. Sorry. The song is 'around'.
If Deftones are good for anything aside from music, it's making me feel like an entitled, impatient child.

Lyrics..
Deftones - Ohms
We're surrounded by debris of the past
and it's too late to
cause a change in the tides so we slip
into a hopeless sea of regret as I stare through the haunted maze in your eyes right through we'll all remain for all time
and time won't change this please
promise me yeah time won't change this it's how we'll stay
this is our time we devour the days ahead
we've been possesed by these changing tides
as we slip on through we promise to meet again
somewhere through the haunted maze
in our minds right through where we shall remain for all time
and time will change this please promise me now time wont change this we shall remain
Sorry for formatting on my phone.. Will change it when I get home
Can't wait for 9/4.
I think the only bad thing about this track is that it's too short. It feels like it should go much longer, is this the track that had a 12-min long demo that Chino talked about?
Can't wait for 9/4.
Most of the world has t even hit 8/21 yet. Time for a pause.
All the dots are filled in on the website now. No clickable link however...
How repetitive is the song? Does it have more than two real riffs? Does it rip off any older songs? That is to say, they don't do another 0-2-3 riff or strum two drone chords back and forth.
TERRRRRRY FUCKING DATE.it does make it even more obvious how terribly Gore suffers from its production, which is really sad tbh
oh fucking hell how I’ve missed this production.

Back to the album art someone mentioned it’s not eyes and maybe be somewhat connected to the ocean. Looking upside down it looks like two fish swimming with their shadows under them like a male fish trying to mate with a female fish. I don’t know just something I noticed...I mean they are meant to loo like eyes but they might have a double meaning. So i call bullshit on that guy.
I haven't looked for leak in years and I don't follow every deftones group ever. I wouldn't say it's "easy to find". Oh well. I'll wait.Am i the only person here that has no idea how to listen to the song?
it's really not that hard to find right now.

Yep. Autogen'd by YT and region blocked(time limited I would assume), but its the single nonetheless.
And we’re 100% positive that the eyes art is not the Olms single art????I thought about that for a split second. A few people kept saying it wasn't the eyes.
I guess I'll be the first one to say it - I do not like the new song. Maybe it was my own foolish expectation thinking the last song on the album would be "heavy" or another "Pink Maggit", but I honestly thought the main riff was a joke at first. This sounds like something that could've dropped with Gore. I am super happy for everyone who clicks with the song immediately, but I am definitely not one of those people. :-\

song didn't click on first listen, kind of reminds me of pittura infamente which is a big meh. we'll see in a month when i hear it again after following 9 other songs
It's not the most amazing song I've ever heard, far from it, but it's alright. I was prepared for something far heavier since the album had been advertized as such compared to the 2010's releases. Not gonna make any more assumptions until the album release so I don't disappoint myself from too much hype. Not having any expectations is the best way to enjoy something. You can only blame yourself if you visualize what you want in your head and expect that I made that mistake too many times with deftones. Songs more than alright. I MUCH prefer this over anything on Gore

Regions where it's Friday.
First impressions: Vocally it's Chino in his safe zone (I'll never complain about his vocals... ever). I dig the lyrics. Musically the bass and drums sound Deftones, but Steph definitely experiments with new sounds which is exciting. I didn’t catch much from Frank, honestly, but may have missed it.
It isn't a mind blowing song, but I wouldn't quite call it "safe" bc of that guitar. It makes perfect sense as a first single... despite it being a closer which is a weird choice. All in all, I really like it, and will be playing the shit out of it... but most excited to hear what's next.

I was gonna say it comes from comments made by Chino in the press months ago, but I double checked and it actually is two years old:I was prepared for something far heavier since the album had been advertized as such compared to the 2010's releases. Twenty years after White Pony and people are still getting hung up on "is it heavy?", as if they've never listened to Deftones before. Not having a go at you particularly, but a few people are going in with that question/expectation and they inevitably end up disappointed when it's not 'heavy' enough for them. Happens every album.
And eventually they go back and realise the record is great. See S/T and SNW. See even White Pony - there were fans who thought that record was too soft, didn't have enough screaming etc. Which is obviously mental but that's what having too many stylistic expectations can do.
In May 2018, Moreno was again asked about the new material and he stated the songs were "considerably heavier" than those on Gore.[101]So yeah, the blame is totally on me for this since back then the album wasn't formed at all and they were just doing demos. I think I just accepted naively that the album would be heavier than the last three ones and followed that line of beliefs.
I was just about to comment this, but it looks like LG95 beat me to it. Was the album ever said to necessarily be more heavy? They said it was going to have more involvement from Stef, and I think this song definitely reflects that. It’s all centered around the guitar. Also - a reminder that Stef wrote Mascara and Entombed. He can mellow with the best of them 😂
I have not heard the other leaks, but this is 1 song. and its the closer of the album. The closer is rarely the heaviest track of a deftones album. I'm just glad the production is good again.I was gonna say it comes from comments made by Chino in the press months ago, but I double checked and it actually is two years old:I was prepared for something far heavier since the album had been advertized as such compared to the 2010's releases. Entombed is one of my favs from Koi, if he does something of its level or even better on Ohms i'll be delighted.I was just about to comment this, but it looks like LG95 beat me to it. It's a good song for them to potentially get some more radio play (I know that isn't important anymore) but I could deffo see BBC 6 Music here in the UK playing Ohms, Mary Anne Hobs usually plays Deftones tracks on her daytime show
the only thing i'm disappointed is the fact it's the album closer. I usually prefer my closer to be longer, more epic and anthemic. But i love the song, if everything else is of. the same quality, I'll be happy.

The guitar in This song reminds me a little bit of some CKY. Think "flesh into gear" or maybe even "96 quite bitter beings".
Ok guys, all this talk about it sounding like "S/T era" is hyping the fuck out of me. Shit, having to wait till tomorrow will suck!It honestly doesn’t sound much like S/T era to my ears. Not to kill your hype, it’s a good song, just don’t go into it with any expectations! I’m having a hard time drawing comparisons to past albums in general honestly, this very much sounds like it’s own thing to me.

what i hear:

Holy shit that was awful. Riff is straight up CKY/Weezer but far less interesting/memorable. Vocals are straight out of Crosses, both melody and lyrics - very typical Chino. Artwork is tired and unimpressive. Song titles came out of a Deftones-song-title-generator. Time for Deftones to put more energy into rehashing their past (via reissues, behind the scenes content, documentary footage, etc.) and less energy into a craft that they are no longer masters of.

Pink Maggit forever will reign supreme as best album closer, but can we get some love for Rivière? I hardly see anyone talk about that song and I absolutely love it.

Finally listened to the song. At first I didn't like it, but about halfway into it I realised that was because it was completely different from what I expected. It's awesome, and to be honest it really does sound like Stef is maybe coming out of his safe/comfort zone, which isn't a bad thing, and just goes to show how much more invested he is this time around compared to Gore. It kind of reminds me of Rubicon, the closer of the album ending almost on a (sonically) high note? Either way, I'm excited!Holy shit that was awful. People like you who think that because they don't like something, a band should stop making music, are weird lol. They love making music, who cares if you don't like it? They'd still want to make music even if it made no money.
Fantano's an easy target but his rock and metal review are so often way off point, I can't really take him seriously with those bands. It surprises me he actually appreciates a great band like Code Orange because I find he's rarely on point with most other heavy stuff.Having a different opinion doesn't mean he's wrong. TBH I wasn't completely disagreeing with everything he said on his Gore review.

How cool would it be for Chino to start singing his old screaming parts in the same style as he does on Ohms?so where is that nature cover art?
hah, i just realized, I should be seeing Deftones tonight in Jersey. I guess a new single is an ok 2nd place trophy :-\I hear you. I had meet & greet for last night in NYC. BEYOND BUMMED - But hearing this track today was a good comeback.

That part sounds like Future Warrior from the Palms album.
Not talking about a difference of opinion though. You can like or dislike something as is your right. I'm saying I find a lot of his rock and metal reviews to be missing the mark in terms of what he focuses on, what he criticises, even what he praises, and I think he often shows a lack of understanding about what a lot of these bands are actually aiming for.Fantano's an easy target but his rock and metal review are so often way off point, I can't really take him seriously with those bands. That's why I don't watch his reviews anymore, unless I'm just curious to know his take. I mean, he does repeatedly state that it's his opinion, and I agree with you on his lack of... I guess understanding the music? idk, some of the stuff he praises is not that great imo. He clearly isn't a fan of this type of music, it all depends where you lean more towards that shapes your individual opinions. He’s a fan of plenty of heavy bands. He rates/has rated bands like Converge, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Napalm Death, Daughters, and Nails pretty highly and consistently highly. But he has equally as many takes, specifically when it comes to heavy music, where I’m left kind of confused by how he came to certain conclusions. That being said, those bands are very different to Deftones of course, and he’s never been extremely kind to Deftones in his reviews lol. Not that he hates them as far as I know, he’s mentioned how he likes SNW in one of his reviews. I don’t this track is going to do it for him though lol.Not talking about a difference of opinion though. You can like or dislike something as is your right. TBH, anything with eyes, which is 99.9% of humans, could come to mind.
I find myself disagreeing with Fantano very often. I can't believe his review on HUM's latest. The one where he criticised that faultless guitar tone? Yeah lol.

I'm sure you'd make a great music reviewer with this way of thinking. Fantano praises bands/artist from all genre. You don't have to necessary agree with him, but his rap taste are pretty decent.Fantano's an easy target but his rock and metal review are so often way off point, I can't really take him seriously with those bands. Probably wishful thinking here, but doesn't it sound like the song ends/fades out kind of abruptly? Maybe there's something after it on the album version?yeah wishful thinking. I wouldn't have mind that last riff to be repeated for another minute.
Apple says it's 4:10 lol, so yeeeah, wishful thinking.
The cover art can be any guy/girl (don't kid yourself, its a a girl, don't forget its a deftones cover art) with make up, crying. Its not because Chi put make up once for a photo shoot that it means its him.

My only criticism with Ohms is it feels like it needs one more passage to make it feel a bit more epic and push it over the top. It would have been cool if it had a second bridge where the guitars dropped out for a moment so the synths and drums could get some time to shine (yeah, a breakdown lol). Overall, it's a solid song, but I do still kind of feel that it's "minor" Deftones.

i'm kinda thinkin the whole Black Stallion thing isn't gonna happen. kinda like it didn't happen back in 2000. it would kinda be funny if it doesn't, just to relive it not happening yet again. wouldn't bother me either way
that's cool. is it gonna be like a bonus cd WP re-release sorta thing: or it's own single album. or nobody knows yet? sorry i should have put this in the black stallion topici'm kinda thinkin the whole Black Stallion thing isn't gonna happen. kinda like it didn't happen back in 2000. it would kinda be funny if it doesn't, just to relive it not happening yet again. wouldn't bother me either way
Don't worry, it's happening this year. I know it from a reliable source
Theory: This Link Is Dead is an explicit song according to Apple Music. When Chino curses, it usually comes in a scream. Therefore, This Link Is Dead will be heavy.

I wonder if it is one of the ones you have heard.
Riff is great but a bit too catchy. My own summer has the catchiest riffs and its up there with one of their best.
I have not heard This Link Is Dead. They talk about the one I raved about in the Kerrang article. ;)
I really disagree with this song being too catchy. I borderline feel it's not catchy enough for a single to become a hit, which I personally don't care.

Seems in the Kerang piece it was mentioned the first track was incredible.
So at midnight in any given time zone the single will be on Spotify?

Midnight in your timezone I think... I don't know if it's the same for the US or if the US is just midnight edt for the whole country.
For me that would be 1am edt
For new releases on Spotify, they release at 12am EDT all across the US. I know, because I’ll usually listen to a new album at around 9pm the night before it drops.Seems in the Kerang piece it was mentioned the first track was incredible.

I felt like that with Swerve City when i first listened to it, and still feel like the same about it. The melody and riff was so much simpler than on this song.I really disagree with this song being too catchy. I borderline feel it's not catchy enough for a single to become a hit, which I personally don't care.
I don't know, it was too easy for me to get into the song, that is not usually the case with Deftones. I hope I am wrong and the song grows on me instead of becoming boring.
I’m really enjoying the track so far but very bummed that they gave us the album closer as a single. That just doesn’t make any sense.

This is so on point. The only attempt at cracking that convinces me tbh
I’m really enjoying the track so far but very bummed that they gave us the album closer as a single. That just doesn’t make any sense.I’ve actually seen this become a trend for the last few years bands to drop the closer as a single, at least with a lot of bands I listen to. Usually I’m against it because the last track tends to be the most cinematic and adventurous on most albums, so it definitely softens the blow of an album when it drops. But it might not be to bad in this case. As someone pointed out before, I could see this song as being more of an “epilogue”, like it might follow the song that is the true gargantuan song in the track list (so maybe that’s what Headless will be?).

Same. One of the most exciting parts of a new Deftones record for me is getting to that last track at the end of a full listen.
the new Ohms video premiers in 7 hours on youtubereally they made a video for it?
I wish they would do covers and b-sides again for this release.

I doubt it'll be a performance video.the new Ohms video premiers in 7 hours on youtubereally they made a video for it?
Simply question for those who heard "the leaks" - is OHMS the top tier song on the record ? Or are there some gems which will blow our minds ?
I'm asking because I'm a bit surprised they choose Ohms as a single. Nothing against the song, it's great and mostly probably I will fall in love with that song in few years :D But comparing to all other first singles...it's just "OK".
I wish they would do covers and b-sides again for this release.oh i know, we haven't gotten a proper b-side since "lovers" in 2003. there was supposedly one for Diamond eyes, "crest", but i guess it was never properly recorded/mixed/mastered. Vesanic heard them jamming it in warm up before a show, if i remember correctly. that's about all we know of it. i don't count consider "smile" a b-side. since it's part of Eros. give us a new b-side fellas, it's going on 20 years!

I know the passages Ves is talking about btw (I think we might have discussed them weeks ago via PM?)

Yea time won’t change tho... it’s promise we made...My favourite part of the song. Chino, Abe, Stef and Sergio all go in on that part. Gets me so hyped.
Love the way that line lays on top of the music. Really beautiful stuff. It’s like up beat and groovy as hell but still kinda has that hopeless feel to it... like something is bothering Chino. What a great day!!

Great day full of news, tracklist, single and video premiere. Now all we need are bundles and hopefully with it some bonus tracks. The only kinda meh or negative thing about this new album is the artwork that in my honest opinion seems like a 10 years old made it, with that said I hope I'm not ruining anyone's parade.

I'd love a deluxe version with the two leftover songs as bonus tracks, but I doubt it. I think Deftones are really a "what you see is what you get" kinda band.
You guys keep speculating about what the cover art reminds you of, but the true answer is right there in plain sight

I'm excited to hear Radiant City. Swerve City is my favorite Deftones song title ever. So much so, it has been my gamertag since the moment I saw it. Ugh I can't wait!!
Can't wait to see which of the ten tracks gets a beer named after them by Belching Beaver.
Swerve City was my fave, but I haven't been able to locate Digital Bath or Dia just yet.

Can't get Belching Beaver beers on the east coast. Every time I go to Phoenix or LA (which is a few times a year), I fly a 6 pack of phantom bride in the carry-on back with me. I've never seen any of the other ones. I swear I went to 10+ spots looking for the Swerve City beer with no luck

I'm on East Coast (Philly). I've ordered from Craftshack.com . I also have a friend in San Diego who will picks things up and mail them to me.
I'm UK and have it on YouTube music now (was Google play music) and can see it on normal YouTube.the leaked .flac version is perfect.
This sounds so much better than that leak... Can play it LOUD! Stef is a beast

I really love the track, amazing riff, Chino does a great job on the vocals, the production is awesome, it really feels like Terry Date's hand. Vega's bass sound is very felt.
I couldn't be happier, it really is a great first release and a very good pick as a single.
The album promises a lot, I feel like there is a return to the roots without losing sight of doing different things. There is an incredible progression and maturity in the sound.
The 24bit is another thing, thanks a lot @slacker!

I seem to recall it became a thing during the DE cycle
There is an A+ quality meme at the top of Deftones reddit right now 😂
"2 More hours" definitely started just before the drop of leathers, I remember it so well.
I swear there were tweets and info swirling all around mentioning the new single drop, and the time would change constantly.
It was either DE or KNY. I think it was DE.
tokyodrifter joined in 2015 before Gore dropped, he caught on the joke once
I don't know if they were supposed to yet or not, but a local music chain near me put up pre-orders for the album and I just ordered the indie limited edition gold colored vinyl :)

This is totally my fanboy bias talking, but the one thing I want to see even more than Ohms getting a high score on Metacritic is for it to take the number one album of 2020 on sputnikmusic:
https://www.sputnikmusic.com/best/albums/2020/
They are pretty highly regarded on that site by most of the users so we'll see. The #1 album they have to beat has a 4.2 score, so I think they have a good shot.

Yeah I'd love that. They do have one of the most consistent discographies on there. Multiple 4s. WP is sitting on 4.4 which is a rare rating by far
I'm not sure who was saying it but it was an "insider" telling all of us "2 more hours" until it became a joke. Of course, now we know the story of why SNW took so damn long to come out.

You haven't seen consistent rankings on that site until you search for Chevelle. They even have a joke in their band description for it.

Gotta love those single LP prices though amirite? With that said the label will likely post there's for $30+ and we'll still eat it up without hesitation.

The filmography of this video is so fucking good. I'm not hyping, I really think it's outstanding, it's their best video so far. Many of these frames would be amazing album covers.i agree. artistically it's the best video they've made, or right up there top 3 or so. great job, i was not excited for the video because i figured it would be their typical run of the mill video, but wow, this thing is great. all videos from now on should be with Rafatoon

Probably tied with Sextape for my favorite vid.
Sextape looks gorgeous if you have one of the phone 3d veiwer things (or I guess actual VR headsets) and watch it on youtube vr so it's just all you can see. just looks so great.
by far my favorite video they've done
song wedges itself into my head more each time
I've been waiting for someone to say this. 100%. The first time I heard it I thought of that. This track fucking rules and the video is pretty amazing. It's more KNY sounding for meThe “throoouuuggghhh” part at around 1:05 is kind of reminiscent to something on KNY for sure.
That part sounds like Future Warrior from the Palms album.
Anyone else catch “Deftones” painted on the train car at around 1:07 of the video?

I was thinking more of Pink Maggit, but yeah.the only thing i'm disappointed is the fact it's the album closer. I usually prefer my closer to be longer, more epic and anthemic. But i love the song, if everything else is of. the same quality, I'll be happy.
they set the bar way too high with Rubicon

Is it possible that the album version of Ohms is a bit longer? The track is amazing imo, and I think there is space for an additional, intense ending/outro (in the vein of BQAD single vs album version).
However, I could see the main riff becoming repetitive if that was the case.

Gotcha. I ain't mad about that! I'm pumped to see how it works as an album closer. If anything, the way it ends inspires more listens to scratch that itch.
Off topic but listening to Ohms over and over made me want to listen to Hexagram. It's kinda pointless to compare records, I just don't think this one will top the S/T for me. We shall see

Not trying to over-hype or create unfair expectations, but if they have a video for the song I praised with rafatoon, it's going to be some Godmode next level shit that blows everyone's minds out of the back of their fucking skulls.
Genesis or The Spell of Mathematics would absolutely do that ;DI think the next single will be more heavier and we will hear stef play more on the bottom strings

Wow same here, I had to return to S/T and SNW today. It made me sad, because somwhere deep inside I had a feeling that they will never release anything better (for me) than S/T, WP or SNW :( I wish I'm wrong this time.
BTW I'm wondering if we will get one more single before 9/25.
Personally I would prefer to get whole record without any more singles. It can ruin the expectations for whole record :D
Nobody here has heard the entire album.
A question for those who have heard more tracks: are the other tracks or any of them darker? Ohms is pretty upbeat.

I'm taking a break of ohms after today, i want to be excited to listen to it again when the album releases.
In my opinion I think ceremony could have been the closer.I'm not giving any details of songs away because I don't want anyone going in with specific expectations, but there was one song I was absolutely sure was going to be the closer. I really like that they've gone against expectations with Ohms last though.
I also think that ceremony has almost the same kind of epicness that ohms has for a closing song.
Luisch? That’s a name I remember seeing a lot when I registered! The only one I haven’t seen is From_Musings. Otherwise just about everyone has chimed in. At least from when I started which wasn’t that long ago. It’s awesome!
Newbie question -> what's that behind Abe ? What is he about to do with that ? :o

And that’s a giant Waffle behind him!
Nobody here has heard the entire album.
Well I wouldn't say that. We never know.
2 more hours we can hear it?Nobody here has heard the entire album.

I'm talking about most usual members. Maybe some insiders or friends to the band who happened to join here got a taste. My point is that the full album has not leaked.
I can’t wait to hear the one where he sings “Balance Balance Balance “ and “We’re miles beyond the sound “ that ending to that one is so beautiful. The way it peaks with those soft lyrics. I’ve only heard it in crappy quality but that one to me sounds like pure Deftones. Really heavy and then absolutely soaring beauty. I can’t wait to find out which track that one is. I’m going to guess it’s towards the end of the record. But who knows.

I just hope there’s a song on the album that sounds similar to Sextape / Digital Bath. I can do without so much screaming. I want more crooning and soaring vocals.

I absolutely bro. I want chinos beautiful voice to really shine. And it really does on this song. Which is so great.

I haven’t listened to the single. I’m gonna try REALLY hard to hold out and wait for the album. We’ll see how that goes lol.

Well good luck to you! I wish I had that self-control in me LOL.
Does anybody know if there are any songs over 5 to 6 minutes long?
The new track is amazing. Terry mothafuckin' Date is back on the team, thank god. Chino's vocals float PERFECTLY in the mix. That was the biggest problem I had with Gore, his voice just seemed on top of everything rather than being like another instrument in the mix. I'm getting some Smashing Pumpkins vibes as well. Did anyone see Chino perform with them? That was awesome.
It's kinda weird though how the first single is the album closer... not complaining however.
HA you should have seen this place in 2012 when KNY was about to come out. I was around back then on another account. Fun times. some bad trolling but overall a good time
a bit more about the production though just have to say, again GREAT blended vocals, and awesome drum mix, so crisp. abe has a nice beat in the song almost hip hop-boom bap ish. he doesn't get enough credit for being as unique as he is.
A bit off topic but Fantano listened to Ohms on his stream today and actually really enjoyed it. I for sure thought he was gonna shit on it lmao

Does he save/upload his streams or anything? I enjoy him even though I rarely agree with him (general sentiment a lot of people share).
Wow, a lot to unpack there.
Wow, a lot to unpack there.
ask and you shall receive lol. As long as there's one person out there that appreciates the detailed post then it's all worth it. I wanted to be a writer when I was young. Probably a good thing I didn't as my books would probably worse than Game of Thrones lol
I woke up at like 8am yesterday to go to the bathroom. I checked here out of habit and saw the single had dropped overseas. So of course I was up for a few hours listening to it and checking in around here.
I absolutely love the song. Those opening/closing riffs are so fun and jammy. The song itself is very warm, bright and almost euphoric. I was very surprised at first that it was the closing track. After hearing Chino's remarks about it in the NME interview it makes more sense though. Rubicon was a lot more intense, but it also had that optimistic, euphoric vibe. Rubicon is more of a soaring song while Ohms is a bit more grounded, but that's three albums in a row now with very optimistic closing tracks. Earlier in their career they always went with dark and experimental tracks. What Happened To You definitely fits the experimental description, but not at all a "dark" song IMO.
I'm trying to find the words to explain this, because people will think I am crazy.......Ohms feels like the shadow, the other side of the coin, the ying to the yang of Hexagram. Just that big, rhythmic guitar driven sound. Hexagram is the gritty, unsettling dark side-whereas Ohms is the warm, safe and uplifting bright side. Probably doesn't make sense to most people, but it just reminded me of Hexagram right out of the gate. Now when I listen to Hexagram, I hear shades of Ohms as well. Ok, so hence the description "safe" though. Ohms does have its own unique sound, but it's not surprising. You can never guess what Deftones will do, but once you hear it you're like "Yep. THAT is Deftones". Ohms, while different, makes perfect sense as a Deftones song. It doesn't blow you away and blindside you with something totally unexpected. Hexagram did though. After WP, no one knew what to expect with S/T........but when they first popped on the album, I can't imagine many people were expecting what they heard on that first track. I doubt that all makes much sense. But's that what I am good at. Writing paragraphs trying to explain something just for it to read like nonsense lol.
Back to Ohms as it stands on it's own........It's my 2nd favorite pre-album single in the Sergio era, behind only Leathers. So yeah, I like it more than Rocket Skates, Diamond Eyes, Tempest, Prayers and Doomed User. My only two complaints would be that Frank sounds almost invisible, and there was no interesting bridge. Those are pretty glaring flaws. I'm particularly worried about Frank. Hopefully it's just this one track. I'd be super sad if he was this low in the mix on a lot of songs. I'd still give it a solid 8/10 though.
At the end of the day, it's the perfect track to remind the world "Hey, we're back." Nothing too extreme or experimental that would cause too much speculation. ...."Are they going super soft now?"...... "OMG It's so heavy I hope the entire album is like this"....... "Ugh this doesn't even sound like Deftones. They need to stop letting Chino write songs". Unique enough to stand on it's own, but still simply pure Deftones.
Terry Date’s Ears should be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame...
A bit off topic but Fantano listened to Ohms on his stream today and actually really enjoyed it. I for sure thought he was gonna shit on it lmao
I am now totally addicted to this new song now, it makes me smile more and more every time I hear it!
Since Gore I got into Team Sleep and Crosses (late to the game with the side projects but the Woodstock Sessions album is now one of my most favourite ear candys), and found myself switching to those after listening Deftones a lot as I'd crave Chinos smoother vocals there. Ohms is scratching both itches. So excited for the album. Aaaarrrgghhh.
In the mean time I'm enjoying watching it make people's faces light up in reaction videos on YouTube ;D
frank is not very present on "ohms" song.

not buried in the mix. very present. you'll see.
(and its awesome)

This place was insane when I had that guy to go his local record shop and pick up Gore so we could leak it. that was a crazy day
Seriously man, that video is at least top three of their career. Director did a fantastic job. Loads of beautiful visuals.
For anyone interested, today's been exactly 22 years since they played that one epic set at Bizarre Festival 1998.
In two (more) hours, I'll be streaming both 98 and 2000 Bizarre Festival sets on DeftonesLive, it'll be at this link
https://youtu.be/aDNoq6G7vHk
It won't be a huge upgrade from what's on YouTube, still an upgrade. It'll definitely be the best quality at hands, as we always try to provide.
Without giving too much away, this was my least favorite song played. It's good, it's fun, the chorus is gorgeous, the production is great - but every other song I heard is even better and more structurally complex.
;D
Need to mention that tokyodrifter being Chino is nothing but a rumour.
What song do you guys believe will be the next city? i bet it will be urantia or judging by the name maybe radiant city... even ceremony has single potential.Urantia, Genesis, or Ceremony I think. I'm really interested in hearing what Radiant City sounds like though

Its a short track compared to everything else on the album so im wondering if it'll be a Sextape type of song or a more aggressive song. What song do you guys believe will be the next city? i bet it will be urantia or judging by the name maybe radiant city... even ceremony has single potential.Urantia, Genesis, or Ceremony I think. Radiant City reminds me of Cloud City off Hum's latest album. That'd be cool if it had the same vibe-- an odd time groove for 7 minutes.
Almost a million views on the music video in two days. That’s incredible!
That's awesome. They'll hit one million on Sunday for sure.
I must reiterate: I'm LOVING the dystopian futurism vibe they are on with the album cover, song titles like Error, This Link Is Dead (the title alone makes me think this song is about to be BONKERS), Radiant City, etc. and especially the stunning Ohms video. How about that crazy floating drone creature thing?
Urantia will be the next single, 9.4

That's mildly disappointing. Can't really say why I think so but it is what it is. All will be well on 9/25 though

I see 46:17 as the runtime on Qobuz but when I add up the track times I get 44:17. What's going on here? Hidden track? No I think you're just crap at maths.

i liked a lot of 2003 stuff on the DeftonesLive channel because it seems a lot of that era was missing for some reason for a long time.
How long is Spell of Mathematics?
It's different ;)
Fantano really enjoyed Ohms. Thats cool. He just highlighted it in his best tracks of the week and gave a pretty glowing summary.
Yeah of course, I'd made up my mind already on liking Ohms but I'm a big music fan when it comes to a range of genres and a massive youtube consumer so obviously I dig his stuff, thought it was cool to see him high on my favourite band. The Date production really is just great so far. Plus there was like a whole page of fantano memes in the ohms pre release thread so thought it could do a mention here haha.
different indeed...
can I describe specific songs? Or no?... if not i'll just say... I think The Spell of Mathematics is going to be a song that grows on you and after this album cycle, it'll probably be a fan favorite.
also.... gahhh why does Chino go live on Mixlr so damn late ! Lol ;);)
why is this random youtube dude mentioned constantly here
who cares

really, i don't give a rats ass if he thought they were the worst band ever, or the best band ever. fuck'emwhy is this random youtube dude mentioned constantly here

He must be either incredibly hated amongst the Deftones community or worshiped.
It's different ;)
That’s a shifty response man! But probably a fair one. I just can’t figure out why he’d share 6 songs. SIX! From an upcoming album of only 10. That’s really just insane to me. Aren’t y’all disappointed? There’s barely any album left to enjoy or be curious about. Not trying to be a dick at all. But in all honesty, aren’t any of you disappointed?
Radio play here in the UK from Mary Anne Hobbs on BBC 6 Music right now as predicted!

Peak Deftones especially for live performances and overall moodiness. Sometimes I hate that they ever went that dark because I know nothing will ever compare to it again.i liked a lot of 2003 stuff on the DeftonesLive channel because it seems a lot of that era was missing for some reason for a long time.
It's some of the best live stuff they've ever done. I watch them over and over again.

Pretty cool! I don't think I've ever heard them on the radio!
About 2003, I had the chance to discuss that recently on the Musically Meditated podcast. I hated the Wembley 2003 performance when I first watched it. It threw me off, I didn't like how Chino replaced the high notes on Digital Bath with those inhales, lots of things felt odd. I just didn't know any better at the time, I was a noob when it came to this band.
Today Wembley is my favorite Deftones recording. This whole era, specifically the second half of the year, has their most crafted performances (lightnings, transitions, etc.), and the performances were so very intense. There's this one particular performance of Digital Bath, in Montreal, where Chino pulls off the notes in a very different manner, I don't think he even did it out of this show. Very raw and powerful stuff.
And it's special because you know these raw performances happened because of the inner turmoil. I wouldn't want them to go through that again. But did it pay off musically!
they made 4 consecutive perfect records in atf, wp, st and snw, especially because you can follow the (d)evolution of the band so well. diamond eyes should've been their Glorious Resurgence, the band rising from the ashes, but i've been waiting 3 albums now for that feeling to take effect in the songs. really hoping this one does it
It's really interesting how divided Deftones fans are on their favorite albums, I'm not sure many other bands have that effect. Their fanbase is so diverse with many different type of people from different age ranges/musical tastes/backgrounds. You got hip hop heads, metal heads, indie hipsters, etc. etc. etc.

I wouldn't put that on the bands fault. you're just one fan, same for anyone else here. Gotta take what they give you and accept it or just move on, because that's who they are now and what they want to release. Doesn't make them bad albums, though Gore has arguably bad production.

I think it's because they picked up a lot of new, younger fans with DE and KNY, so it makes sense that those fans would have those as their favorites while the older fans would be attached to the older stuff.
The mix on Gore is bad, but it's still easily a more cohesive album than SNW. SNW from song to song sounds borderline schizophrenic to me. Also Beware has worse production than any song on Gore - fight me.
I was gonna mention that. Even Stephen was complaining about Chino ruining the riff of Mein in "post-production".The mix on Gore is bad, but it's still easily a more cohesive album than SNW. You're not wrong. Beware is like the black sheep production wise... It's way lower in volume, and pretty much everything else...
Let's not forget that most of the band didn't get much of a say in what happened to that album as it was mostly Shaun Lopez and Chino working on it
I try and let go of album mixes these days as I have a tendency to focus on it too much and it ruins the enjoyment for me. Even with Ohms I started off by thinking the snare could be louder for my tastes but then had to stop myself as I'll always have a love for 90s style mega loud snares.
I suppose that I'll never be able to listen to an album without a preference here & there but it was getting ridiculous. I'll now just tinker with an EQ a bit and I'm happy.

It would be good in the future if Gore got a re-master & new mix, ideally by Terry Date

I'm still very confused about the mix on Gore. I can't believe the band listened to it and were like: Yes, thats the sound we want to go with this time.

Yeah Riviere is a masterpiece. For me whole SNW is the top tier of their catalogue - combat, beware, rapture, cherry waves, kimdracula, riviere. These songs basically combine everything what I love this band for. Sadly most of the fans won't agree with me. I hope Ohms will let me feel the same thing...FWIW I 100% agree with you. Those tracks hit me hard at my core. I am very optimistic about ohms delivering similar.
From the hype I got from the new song, I listened to Gore again, and I'm kind of worried because I really don't enjoy that album. I don't know if it's mostly because of the production, but a lot of these songs I'm tempted to just skip. Finger crossed I guessthe Buflen? Mario Maker Buflen?
Penicks isn't really a fan of the post SNW records, same with Ves. I kind of like that there are people on this forum that go against the grain like that, even though most fans - including me - would disagree (I think DE and KNY are brilliant records). And of course there's a special love for the self-titled which I think is a top three Deftones album.i kind of appreciate the fans like them more than i used to as well. i don't think they're saying the other albums sucked either, just that they're not hitting them the same way. i respect that. luckily i really like/love all the albums, but certainly have an order for them. i acutally think Crosses is probably the 3rd best album Chino's made(ATF and WP 1st and 2nd). doubt many people agree. everyone's opinion is right to them, not really a big deal
Going through their catalog and Riviere is a monster of a song. It might be one of their best. Huge sounds, Chino on point vocally, with beautiful bass lines throughout from Chi. I can't seem to play it loud enough. I love SNW as it is, but if all that ever came out from that time period were Riviere I don't think I would complain.yes, Riviere would be my favorite from SNW as well
i dont get it either, the louder it's played, the worse it sounds. i like the songs, but that mix is rough. i tried to jam "doomed user" loud as hell one time in the car, and it just sounded bad, and i had to turn it down a bit. and yea "Beware" might be even worse sounding mix wiseI try and let go of album mixes these days as I have a tendency to focus on it too much and it ruins the enjoyment for me. Quick write-up:i almost wanna say they played Combat and the boy's republics live for you alone, lol. probably riviere too. didn't you and a few other people from here send some of them messages about playing more rare stuff? now if you can just twist their arm into playing pink maggit
I actually like Saturday Night Wrist, quite a lot. I bought it in 2007 after catching the Hole in the Earth promo clip on YouTube. I remember thinking that was the most directly emotional Chino had sounded (from the little I knew about) if that makes sense, and the composition sounded very fresh, I loved Frank's ambient and the outro breakdown hit me deep.
The Konami Code is one of the Deftones songs I've overplayed to death (and there aren't as many as you'd think for someone like me). Something about it was different while still sounding very Deftones. Some kind of peaceful innocence mixed with the surrounding melancholy, I don't really have the words. I even remember trying to figure out piano at the time, and I had come up with my own version of the song. No credit to me obviously, it sounded beautiful on piano.
And for as disjointed as the band was and how pieced together to writing process was, I still don't feel the album is as disjointed as many people think. There's only one point in the sequence where I'm thrown off, is the Konami Code into Xerces. I like both tracks (though Xerces may be my least favorite SNW song), but the lack of transition there doesn't work for me. You'd think it's a very Deftones move to go like this, I just don't think it worked that well in that case. And then going into Rats! after that is debatable too. I do like Rats! though. I remember someone on here criticising the very simple lyricism, but the feeling of anger came out really well and sincere. It's definitely in their few all-time heaviest cuts and it didn't feel heavy for the sake of being heavy. That's something for a metal band imo. Hell, does anyone remember another instance of Deftones playing fucking death metal? Someone said Gore felt more cohevise than SNW... I disagree.
Hell, Pink Cellphone used to be the running gag of this forum. I actually did like Pink Cellphone. I thought, for as random as it sounded, it really fitted Saturday Night Wrist. I still think stuff like that and The Konami Code could be played live with success if done correctly.
Kimdracula still is one of my favorite songs. This texture, are you kidding me? It's one of those few songs where you know you can't put this band in a box no matter how hard you try.
Combat comes as a personal preference since I witnessed first hands the only time they pulled it off in front of an audience. I liked it a lot when I first heard it too.
And Riviere. Fucking Riviere man. I didn't notice it on the first few listens, felt like that mandatory ballad by an otherwise heavy band, but holy shit. Those guitar chords hit right when they need to. Chino's vocals come off very sincere and almost fragile. Makes me tear up every time, I'm not ashamed. Absolutely my favorite SNW track and in my top 5 Deftones songs. I may or may not have played a tiny role in them starting playing it live during the KNY cycle, I'll never know.
My two main problems with Saturday Night Wrist are, for one, its touring cycle. I'll never blame a man for gaining weight, I'm not a fucking gossip magazine worker, and I can't be THAT shallow. But how they had all put on weight, especially Chino, was a sign that all those dark years had taken their toll. Stephen admitted, in an interview after the release of SNW, that Chino had a really hard time singing, and he felt very bad for him. It's not to say all the shows sucked, and none of them did from start to end, there was just this inconsistency. Most of the time (not all the time), they'd sound good for a minute and get tired the next minute, and you could hear it if you paid attention (which, as an off-the-record archivist, I did). Don't get me wrong: there are many great performances in the SNW cycle.
My second problem is knowing the potential that was wasted into this. We all know the production could have been a lot better and in fact, was going to be a lot better: they had fucking Bob Ezrin working with them. Sure enough a couple of you don't know, there's a bunch of demos they made with him, they're all available on YouTube. Had they gone through with him and completed these songs and come up with one decent sequence... this album was going to be on another level. We all know it. Stephen knew it at the time and was probably pissed over it.
I'll finish this very biased review with my favorite performance of Rats which, in my opinion, represents what I just said really well. Up until the first chorus, Chino is almost studio-like: the screams, the highs, the rasp, to the point it gives me the biggest chills. After that... it gets inconsistent. Again, don't twist my words. The rest of the band is top-notch through and through, but Deftones songs have always relied a lot on Chino. If he doesn't sound as good, the whole music takes the toll. Hope you get what I mean.

i used to post their too. i spent so much time on there.i also came here in the first few weeks of the board. their was a different deftonesworld board before this one as well, and was replaced with this one in 2004. cool that you're a big deftones fan. a lot of your levels are named after bands or songs(like ohms, digital bath, etc) i've noticed. loved the 4ymm level. i've probably put 3,000 hours into smm1 and 2 combined, lolYes. it's me.From the hype I got from the new song, I listened to Gore again, and I'm kind of worried because I really don't enjoy that album. I don't know if it's mostly because of the production, but a lot of these songs I'm tempted to just skip. Finger crossed I guessthe Buflen? Mario Maker Buflen?
I was not expecting to be recognized with this name here. I used to post on the old and retired Deftones official board, and had multiple account here since the very beginning. I forgot my password so I registered again under this name.

Quick write-up:

As far as production, song writing, performance, and overall style nothing will ever top White Pony. Every second counts on that record, and every second is perfect. There is not one single weak or boring moment. A trip of a record, and in my opinion the greatest record I have ever heard in my life.
If WP was the cool vision of the future, ST was the band's knucklehead past that was somehow released after its predecessor. Much like the Beatles and Madonna, the band reinvented themselves yet again in an extremely interesting way. Another record, where each song stands on its own yet all relate back to each other. Their sound, look, and songwriting evolved in such a fundamental way. Sometimes it's hard to believe it's the same band.
SNW is where they started repeating themselves a little bit, and it was a bit painful to watch. There are some brilliant compositions on the record, like Kimdrac, Combat, and Beware, but there are some horrifying moments too like Rapture. Xerces bores the shit outta me. And I still shake my head every time I hear those four punchy notes from the main riff of HITE. I personally appreciate Pink Cellphone except where the nonsense begins.
DE was a phenomenal, hopeful, and unlikely return for the band. Royal is truly their Phoenix rising. I enjoy other tracks but do not appreciate in the same way as their previous works. Maybe they lack a bit of depth or originality? Some stuff sounds like an update of something from the past: Sextape / Digital Bath, Cmd/Ctrl / Rats, Beauty School / Minerva, etc. There's also this weird thing in the songwriting where the verses are far catchier and memorable than the choruses - 976, Royal, and Cmd/Ctrl come to mind. Also screaming "Guns! Razors! Knives!" never did much for me and just came off a little silly.
KNY sounds like it was recorded back-to-back with Diamond Eyes. I struggle to enjoy much on this record. Tempest and Rosemary are fine Deftones songs. Leathers has one of the best pre/choruses ever written by the band, but the guitar work does not sound like Stef - it sounds like they hired some younger guy to write that riff, but it certainly kicks ass. I still can't believe they titled a song "Romantic Dreams."
Gore is a bit forgettable overall. Many complain about the mix/production, but to me it's the underlying songs and performances that are just middling. I will say, though, Geo has a brilliant chorus. Acid is trying hard to be interesting. Hearts/Wires and Phantom Bride are also somewhat very strong songs.
Honestly not feeling this new song at all. It does nothing for me. It sounds very safe. And I'm really hoping the rest of the album fares better.
As far as pre-WP, I still cannot get over the riff and lyrics in BQAD. Mascara is another one that showed Deftones were in a league of their own. And on Adrenaline, Root is my jam <3
I’ve got a feeling this album won’t leak. It may leak a day before like the single but that’s about it. Even if it did, with the announcement so close to the release date would a leak even interest anyone? I kind of like the short turnaround
Even if it did, with the announcement so close to the release date would a leak even interest anyone?
To be honest, if the album leaked even a few days before release I’d probably still listen to it haha. I know that probably bothers a lot of the anti-leak crowd, but whatever.Even if it did, with the announcement so close to the release date would a leak even interest anyone?
Maybe not a lot of people (that's debatable), I think it would though. Lots of people out there like to have that one pre-release leak, there's some kind of sentimental value to it, like a special edition.
I think there were lots of lessons to learn. Deftones have a long history of having their stuff leaked, and so much has leaked since the internet became a thing. Tool got their album leaked a couple of days prior to the release, same for Glassjaw. I would be surprised if Ohms didn't leak before a "Friday leak" from NZ. But it does seem like they got their stuff on check this time around, I'm keeping positive.
In response to mandalay, I just wanted to second Geometric Headdress having a fantastic chorus. The rest of the song isn’t as fantastic by comparison, though I still like it. But that chorus always felt like signature Deftones to me. I specifically like when they extend it by a few measures at the end and Chino sings “Now relate like I relate”. The high intensity way they close out the song is pretty great too. It's definitely the best and most "deftones sounding" part of the album. But the song is kind of all over the place beside that imo.
I did. It's called Glassjaw.info, it's only on YouTube. It was in reference to the follow-up forum to Glassjaw.net, but that new forum ended up being spammed to death by ad bots. Thanks for letting me know, I’ll definitely be sure to subscribe in case you ever decide to upload some more. But yeah, that Pukkelpop show is great, definitely one of the best ones they’ve done in this whole Material Control era. Did you by chance have any GJ shows from the tour where they were supporting Deftones?
I had a different approach where I archived every single video on YouTube in a chronology, not just my uploads like I do for Deftones. The reason is Glassjaw has a lot less material on YouTube.
I didn't follow up after 2017 however. I've uploaded a couple of shows myself here and there, and I recorded them a couple of times. I'll probably get back to it at some point but Glassjaw is a different thing. The Pukkelpop proshot makes up for it, such a brilliant recording.

IDK if it means anything or if this has been pointed out yet but Chuck Doom's IG posts all have Urantia as the location. Someone please fill me in...It’s been going on for weeks now, since way before that track title was officially announced. It started happening only a day or so after someone plugged the leaked track into that AHA song identifier thing and was given Urantia as the title. So it was either just a way of teasing the rabid fans as a “we know that you know” sort of a thing, or Chuck just liked the title and thought nobody would really think twice about it. Idk, either way I don’t think there’s much to look into there.

Deftones have truly mastered this in many of their songs.
Totally, I completely agree. Rosemary is perhaps my favorite example, with the whole “we play in dreams” extended chorus. I also love it in Battle-Axe with the “Well I’d love to think you will someday feel the same“ partIn response to mandalay, I just wanted to second Geometric Headdress having a fantastic chorus. If recent intel is legit, 2nd single should be out next week. And then just 3 looooong weeks until the album after that!
Anyone else seen Deftones latest Facebook story? It's in the same style as the lyric clues from last week but says stream Ohms on Spotify's Rock This playlist. Just advertising or more canvas art if you do as the story says?It just tells you to listen to the song on spotify. Pretty straight forward.

I enjoyed DE, although not at first. It's Deftones more glossy, 'pretty' records but overall it's a good record. They wrote it in like 4 months, same as ATF. My favorite Sergio record.Bloodflowers is my favorite so I feel you on that
I think Deftones can still produce that one AMAZING record. It might not be popular opinion but one of my favorite Cure records is Self Titled... their twelfth record.

Can anyone make sense of what that tracklist was?

Anyone have a list of the new songs and how our post number correlates? Is Ohms for those who have posted the most?
cool vocal removal for Ohms.

Can't believe we are less than a month away! I'm ready for next weekend so this place picks up when this new single drops. Going to be working a lot in the meantime, should help the time go by faster. I just got a $4 an hour raise so that's great. Just an awesome month all around. I hope all is well with everyone around here too. Nothing can fix this terrible year, but a new Deftones album it's definitely going to be Soup for the Soul.
Wtf cassete is still a thing?!

I don't think motherfuckers are even ready for this, tbh.

I think its about humanty/evolution/tech and its relation with nature.
The man who walks within the ruins would represent humanity and the long red cape lady represents mother nature. At the end of the video they have a reconciliation.
Its just my opinion.
lmao
lmao
I mean it. The quality on that stuff is downright awful and talking about the music on it is a disservice.
I'm talking about the quality of the leak, not about the music. ;)

Wonder if they have done any b-sides for this albumsince the last b-side we got was "lovers" in 2003, i'd say the odds are very low. like 3% chance at best

Ok, so new single on 09/04 or 09/11 ?
Miraculously, I've remained unspoiled, apart from the single, during this album's build so far and haven't caved in and listened to any of those low quality recordings and I'm really appreciating the anticipation which is certainly novel.
Yeah, man - I'm sticking this one out until release day. Have the previous albums to keep me company until then.

I plan on holding out as well. I still haven’t listened to the single. Either way, the new Manson album is coming out soon so that’ll hold me over until then.
thatdeftkid said 9/04. So it's obviously not going to be on that date because none of his "info" came true.Ok, so new single on 09/04 or 09/11 ?
I think we were expecting 09/04 but I'm thinking the following week now. No insider info or anything to base that on, merely a feeling as there's been no official announcement or build to it being this Friday, and they could just drop it without fanfare, but that's a big contrast to the lead up to the album reveal.

No insider info or anything to base that on, merely a feeling as there's been no official announcement or build to it being this Friday, and they could just drop it without fanfare, but that's a big contrast to the lead up to the album reveal.
In a way, thatdeftkid provides just as many valuable leads as tokyodrifter does. The only difference is that you have to assume the exact opposite of whatever thatdeftkid says will be true.
Saying this is a fact is a paradox. Now I don't know what is real.In a way, thatdeftkid provides just as many valuable leads as tokyodrifter does. The only difference is that you have to assume the exact opposite of whatever thatdeftkid says will be true.
Facts.
I'm lost. Is there a summation to hand of what thatdeftkid 'revealed'?
You also said the album art has nothing to do with eyes, and lo and behold, the cover is nothing but a pair of eyes. So far the only predictions you were actually right about was the album would be released on 9/25, which was pretty self-evident by the website url, and the fact that a single would drop on 8/21, which while not entirely evident, I think most of us already assumed something would be dropping by then what with the spelling out of the album title through Spotify. You could be right about a single dropping this Friday, but then again it’s nearly a 50/50 chance since something is more than likely dropping either this Friday or next.I'm lost. Is there a summation to hand of what thatdeftkid 'revealed'?
Only thing I've been "wrong" about is the title of the second single.
I'm really digging Ohms right now. It's like Good Morning Beautiful or Street Carp, easy not too risky song but still catchy.
Dont know why Stef use a 9 strings on this one tho.
In comparison, the Manson's album has leaked already, the release is scheduled for 9/11. I hope Ohms doesn't follow the same fate.
Haha, this 'thedeftkid' guy has already been debunked, the email address linked to his account takes you to a LinkedIn profile of a random guy working in some business not related to music at all.
Let's just say he's completely debunked now, 100%.

Yep, I remember him now being the guy that said the eyes on the artwork weren't eyes.
Dont know why Stef use a 9 strings on this one tho.He uses a 9 string in the video, doesn't necessarily means that's what he used to record it. Probably just showing off.

And Chino said it was the first thing written for the album, 3 years ago, which is before the instagram post on his 9 strings guitar.
Anyway, it's not because you have X amount of strings that you need to use them all in all songs.

In all honesty it probably will. I mean 10 days out from release isn't unrealistic.

From what I understand, Stephen upgrades all his guitars to whatever the number of strings he currently writes in no matter what. This way he's not constantly shifting neck sizes for songs live (say to 6 strings for Adrenaline, ATF, and WP and 7/8 for the others) and can just get used to one size. It's irrelevant to him what strings he uses to play a song. He's going to use the guitar size he's currently used to.

Probably. Has there ever been a Deftones album that hasn't leaked in this age? It's funny how some albums stay protected while others don't. Nas' latest album (that came out the same day as Ohms) didn't leak, and I think pop stars like Beyonce or Taylor Swift also have good security and don't leak. Maybe because some are surprise releases or only have a week of promotion, like in Nas' case?

Live guitar line-up: 7's, 8's & now 9's as well.
We are in the digital age now. No more
Boxes of discs being sent to Tower Records or Wherehouse. Man i miss those days.

Does he still switch guitar sizes live? I was under the impression that he decided to just get used to one neck size and learn to play the songs with them. That said, I haven't played a 7-string in probably a decade and never touched an 8 or 9 so I don't know if it's significantly different switching between those three than say a 9 down to a 6.
So close guys! I truly have a good feeling about this album! HAS to be better than Gore at the very least..right? RIGHT??
Amazing, This place is death right now...
Ohms is gonna make this place Explode. To get a first and last Track as Singles says a lot about the maturity of the Band. And more importantly the Sound...IMO

He posted something a while back saying that he had a reputable tip about when the single would drop, but later edited the post to leave out the juicy details. Without just outright saying the date, let’s just say it maybe possibly might not be dropping on either 9/4 or 9/11.2nd Single on Friday. I know because I just know.

Yep. It's not coming this week or next. Basically confirmed from the same place that the song titles came from.
Before the dates just said "Unknown". I checked late sunday night/early monday morning and it showed the confirmed date.
I'm assuming the release date is to hype up the week before release and if there's a leak, hope it'll distract people from it?
It’s not entirely unheard of for a band to drop a single a week before album release, lots of bands do it. That being said, usually when I see that happen, it tends to be a third single or something.
So obviously it's September 18th. It probably wasnt supposed to be known yet, but apparently the music recognition site we used to identify the leaks, let this one out a little early.
What if homeboy from the B-Real podcast is actually mistaken thinking Genesis is the next single and it’s actually the third single? What if thatdeftkid is actually right about a single dropping this Friday? sharinglungs, have you tried plugging in any other leaks into AHA to see if they come up with an earlier date?
thatdeftkid changed his stance once on what the song would be...Yeah, but hypothetically if Genesis is actually the third single, then it’s possible Urantia could be the 2nd single and drop this Friday after all. Once again, this is just me spitballing ideas based on the notion that a single dropped a week before release tends to be a third single. I’m not necessarily giving thatdeftkid’s predictions any credence since they were wrong about other things too such as the album art. I guess I’m just entertaining the possibility that there could be a single in between Ohms and Genesis
Shit. In that case, I think it’s safe to assume for now that that Genesis is the only other singleWhat if homeboy from the B-Real podcast is actually mistaken thinking Genesis is the next single and it’s actually the third single? I did and nothing comes up.
That was exactly what I was thinking, it seems like a nice and tidy way of slowly trickling things out, and mirrors what I see lots of other bands doing. But as we all know, Deftones has their own way of doing things that are (sometimes infuriatingly) not like other bands. At this point, I’m not expecting anything until 9/25.Ohms was broadcast.
And yeah Roidragee, I considered the possibility that much like Ohms, they might use another non-leaked song as a single. If that’s the case, I think it’s clever of Chino to not have broadcasted the songs he knew would be singles
Genesis, Ceremony, Error(15 seconds), This link is dead(30 seconds?), The Spell of Mathematics, Urantia, Pompeji(1:27), Headless(30 seconds).. that's all thats out there, I don't think anyone passed around any part of the song Ohms.
I'm probably biased about Beware because I heard the song live first and it blew me the fuck away. I thought it was one of the best songs they had ever written and it probably is. But then I heard the album version and Chino's voice just sounded so compressed and Frank's synths were gone. My expectations were too high for that one, maybe.
So we thinkin single tomorrow or nay?

I agree with you 100%. I remember listening to a different version of the song, really raw and dirty, Frank really present on it. That mp3 is one of my fav Deftones songs, ever. When I first heard Beware in Sao Paulo back in 07, that shit got me so pumped and crazy that I fell in love with it on the spot (look it up on youtube, ITS INSANE). The live version is way better than the version that ended up on the record, imho. I hate that one. Makes the song no justice.

Guys the next single is Pompeji and will drop on the 11th, my uncle at Nintendo told it to me.
Nah the new single will be ”The Spell of Mathematics” The description online from the leak sounds so good.
Apparently the song starts with a spoken word accapella round table post-modern argument with Abe, Chino, Frank and Sergio trying to convince Steph that the Earth isn’t flat. It then ends with a hidden track “Pink Cellphone 2.0” which is actually Fergies National Anthem sampled into a 13/8 frogstomping banger.
Released will be 10th Sept. Nintendo My Told Me, he works with my uncle.

No problem, I remember ordering an autographed copy of GORE when they had it as well.
Once an album is shipped to stores there isn't much they can do to stop a leak.
I think it'll happen the week before release.

Never hung out with them but had them stop a show for me. https://youtu.be/Vqn6EYL1k1Q. 1:02:20 during Lotion. (lost my glasses. lame. chino thought a girl i was with lost them. nope - it was me. he lets my fat ass sit on stage the rest of the show. roadie gave me beers to hang out on stage. 20 years ago, cut me some slack - I'm a changed man.)
P.S - at 23:05 this show became my favorite performance of Change, ever. that scream is amazing.
Oh yeah, my original point: I'm super psyched for this album, and I hope it doesn't leak at all. My two year old son gets down to Acid Hologram - proud Dad.
Cheers!
P.P.S - met them and brought this up during Diamond Eyes tour. No band member had any recollection. LOL.

Considering the fact that Deftones' closers are some of my favorite songs of theirs ever, Ohms is pretty underwhelming. It's a solid 3.5/5 and that chorus riff is a bit tiresome on repeated listens. I'm kinda worried about this album, not gonna lie. Anyone else in a similar boat?

It's just that Gore wasn't actually THAT bad .......... But to me it still had some ideas. OHMS on the other hand sounds just like a template. Love the drums, but I just can't stand the repetitive structure they always seem to fall back to anymore.. :(Comparing an album to a song is kinda dumb
Go in with no expectations. If you build it up in your mind you will just end up being disappointed.
Ohms is just a great rock song. It has a very Deftones feel to it. The type of rock they create is becoming extremely rare anymore for me to discover. I honestly had to try to like gore so I was a little worried about the new album. If Terry produced gore I wonder what it would have been like I guess we will never know. I don’t really get into vinyl but I want to support the band maybe I will just buy aGore with Terry producing would have just sounded more crisp, and well produced. the song themselves would stay they same, since Terry only records them, and never tells them what to write. they do all their own writing
t-shirt and the cd even though the cd will probably just collect dust some where since I use Apple Music.
well for me, to know if ohms fit as a closer, ill have to listen to the second to last song. Ohms is fine as a prologue if the previous song sounds like a epic closer. It’s funny that you say this, because I was just about to say this exact same thing. For example, I don’t think Moana would be a good closer track when listening to it isolated from the rest of the album, but it really serves a purpose after Anniversary in the track listing. Anniversary is this very floaty atmospheric that makes for a good traditional close to the flow of the album, then Moana feels like an epilogue to bring up the energy of the album one last time and close things on more of a high note.

Go in with no expectations. If you build it up in your mind you will just end up being disappointed. I've learned that from past albums. Wait for the damn thing to come out, and go listen to some other music in the mean time. I like to listen to any non-heavy music, i.e. electronic, jazz, etc. like Deftones pre-show music to cleanse the palette.
Some of you guys are embarrassing yourselves.
If you guys like instrumental metal, check out "night verses". Their album From the Gallery of Sleep is absolutely killer.Yes yes yes. Their second album Into The Vanishing Light, despite not being instrumental, has some Deftones undertones here and there. I highly recommend the song Strange Graves in particular.
Haven't been here for a few weeks, was there any talk about them dropping another single before the album release?
Moon Diagrams - 2019 Trappy Bats mini LP is dope. It's the drummer for Deerhunter, another band you should check out. [edit: I just read that this album was recorded after a "reflective night in jail"]

This is chill. Reminds me of some of Akira Yamaoka's mellower Silent Hill music.
When do you guys think we'll get the 30 second previews?
When do you guys think we'll get the 30 second previews?
I don't remember 30 second previews for Gore. Maybe there will be no Ohms previews either.
I remember couple of things before Gore release:
-> greGORErio - some funny guy who leaked interesting facts about the album ~2 months before the release date. No one belived him but all he said was correct;
-> it leaked just ~ 3-4 days before the official release (TokyoDrifer was chasing people to get a link)
-> SL community loved the production at the beginning :D
-> someone said H/T sounds like Pink Floyd lol
-> hype was bigger

I can't really recommend much heavy music because I don't listen to much other than my favorites which are obviously Deftones. I love old school shit I guess: Meshuggah, Failure, Hum, Tool, etc. The newest Idiot Pilot that came out of nowhere last year and the new Will Haven was ace.
Here's some downtempo shit to calm you down ;D

and though I'm not huge King Krule fan I love his Archy Marshall album and this song from his new 2020 album.

Sure, let’s go with that
What’s up guys? Sorry been traveling back home. I’ve been in the dark, any time line for the next signal?
Deftones.com updated with a mailing list. Probably just to keep updated with tour dates, merch, etc..
Pretty exciting that review called Ohms their magnum opus. I'm sure many will disagree and still say White Pony is their magnum opus, but I do think Ohms is definitely going to be considered one of their best and many will rank it at no. 2 after White Pony.
Upset Magazine.
I’ve been listening to a lot of self-titled lately just to get excited for a new Terry Date record.
Love the end of Battle -Axe when Chinos guitar comes in. Such a beautiful moment. The drums and guitars are mixed so perfectly. Glad they finally started playing this one at shows the last few years. It’s a beautiful dark song.
Just logged to thank you about the info regarding the new Idiot Pilot album....I didnt know they released it. Listening now and it blew me away.
Also, I will give a shot to this Moon Diagrams album since I enjoy Deerhunter a lot.

Battle Axe is a personal favorite. Such an under rated track. The groove and lyrics are near perfection.
As you might can tell I love that song, personal favorite of mine as well. I liked its original title You Hate Fun lol. I used to loop the 30 sec clip over and over and over again. Gah I hope we don't get any clips before the release of Ohms... I really don't have the willpower to not listen to them all and I'm trying to wait until the 25th. :PI’ve been listening to a lot of self-titled lately just to get excited for a new Terry Date record.

It's like the Hum album? 5/10 from Smugthony Knowitalltano confirmed.I'm pretty sure Anthony Fantano encourage people to make their own opinion on albums and not taking his as face value. Well, from his video alone, I don't care about his social medias.

If someone else's opinion makes you that mad, you are either insecure in your own opinion, or need a thicker skin. I don't trust reviews in general and prefer to make my own opinion, except if the consensus of everyone is that its shit, then I don't bother. It's like the Hum album? 5/10 from Smugthony Knowitalltano confirmed.I'm pretty sure Anthony Fantano encourage people to make their own opinion on albums and not taking his as face value. Yes, yes - we know it's just his opinion, right? Of course, of course...but if he gives our precious Deftones' new album Ohms a bad review, we riot.

Of course, I just saw a lot of hate here on Anthony Fantano. I respect him for telling his opinion without sugar coating it, even if I don't always agree and sometime fully disagree. I prefer that over the reviews that are just nice to every artist, and give a 3/5 or 4/5 to most of them. At least he is entertaining. If someone else's opinion makes you that mad, you are either insecure in your own opinion, or need a thicker skin. I'm just joking around, man. I don't care what score he gives it. I mean, it would be nice if he likes it, but if not, so be it.
Hope we get to hear a preview of Genesis on Friday!

Do you mean a YouTube teaser Or something like that?
What's HUM? And why should it excite me that he said that?
Pretty sure they named the album and Frank Maddocks created the artwork.Chino looked up and chose the pony clip art for the cover. The logo itself wasn't even designed by them, they just paid for the rights, like the diamond eyes cover. He said it in interview.
Pretty sure they named the album and Frank Maddocks created the artwork. U think Chino asked him to make it like Hum’s cover? Doesnt sound right to me. I think its a coincidence like any cover art with a mammal fearured on it. Just my opinion maybe. I just think that would be a little too obvious and so so so lacking creativity which is part of the fun for us and i would think for the band also.
Shot in the dark here, but for those that have heard most of the album, do you happen to know which song contains the lyric *edited*?

Pretty sure Chino knew after the WP cover was done that it had some resemblance with the Hum cover, and it's alright....it's definetly a coincidence, but it doesn't hurt to see it as a homage/influence thing too, whatever.

YIKES!
10 years ago I would have listened to all the low quality leaks already. I'm glad I haven't this time.
Now I've got a better balance going on so new music and games just sneak up on me and I get to enjoy things as intended. I owe alot to Deftones.

DE cover was inspired when Chino was staying with the band’s long term Uk publicist/friend. She lives in country barn and has barn owls. From the outset, Chino wanted an owl on the cover and Frank M worked up some ideas.

I'm sorry to tell you this, but the cover of DE is a picture taken by John Ross that was taken before and completely unrelated to the album and was on sale on stock images websites like shutterstock. You can't have a cheaper and lazier way to make an album cover. But I guess it fits the album.
This is definitely (currently) the least I’ve heard of a new Deftones record before it actually has been released since White Pony. I agree that it feels kinda nice to not have caved into listening to the low quality leaksDidn't Gore leak extremely late? I don't remember any low quality leaks like for Ohms.

Haha yea, C*** didn't st*** Gore 2 months before release :o, we didn't get low-quality leaks and the actual leak was a few days before the official low-quality release.

I want to say it leaked 5 days prior to its official release.

The Gore leak had even worse audio quality than the final version, believe it or not...I think it leaked in 2 phases. First one I didn't even bother after the first song.

I remember my brother found Gore on the shelf at Target about 4 days before the release date. He brought it up to check-out along with a bunch of other stuff he had, but it wouldn't scan. Manager came over and said it couldn't be released until the release date and took it from him. He said he didn't know how it ended up on the shelf so early. My brother tried to raise a fuss, but (I'm not sure how true this) the manager said they track the sales dates for new releases so they would get in trouble or fined for selling it early.

Looking back it's hard to tell but I know Gore was leaked in low quality on April 3, 2016. There was an April Fools joke "leak" that only had a few songs on it. Up until the actual leak we had already listened to five tracks I believe. So yeah, Gore leaked about five days prior to the official release, and I'd speculate it will be about the same with this new album...
Completely unrelated but the new Dune movie trailer is out, I posted it over in the Cinema/TV section if anyone's interested in checking it out. Looks pretty damn good from what I can tell.

The Gore leak was a vinyl rip.

I don't think it's incompetence, they've probably got a very skilled team of web developers that work for them.Really, it's broken html and css. and their website never looked super professional to me.
Taking down an entire page, is no accident, taking down 2 pages, and making physical changes, also no accident.
We'll just have to see what comes of it.
Well the website was taken down and directed to the "not authorized" page, so whatever they're doing is intentional.
Maybe a teaser for Genesis on Friday?
Not sure if you guys saw this yet. New song next week confirmed!

I never had a problem with that title like some do. It sounds like an unrequited love that turned into a creepy obsession. Not my favorite song but I can more or less see why it's there.Wasn't that the same band that titled a song "Romantic Dreams."
in all honesty, what's wrong with that title? I always felt like it fit the album aesthetic nicely (and tbh if I had to name KNY after a song that would probably be it)

Nice find ! Was good hearing him ask about a lot of things I’ve been wondering about in terms of the roll out of this new album.
It's incredibly pedestrian. The magic about Deftones was always avoiding just that. Taking a simple concept and obscuring it in shadows and layers. Not hitting you over the head with whatever the idea is. And not using trite, commonplace phrases. The title "Romantic Dreams" is not up to that standard in any way.Wasn't that the same band that titled a song "Romantic Dreams."

Well. I'm pretty sure chino is aware he is not the best live singer.
For the energy and passion, he is rarely beaten, but for just the vocal abilities ... I mean, when I watch a show where his voice doesn't crack every 10 seconds, I consider it a good show for him. The bar is ridiculously LOW. When you are there, it doesn't matter much because of the enegy, but watching it on youtube.... :o
Of course. I love them to death, but I'm not completely blind (or should I say deaf) to this issue. I guess I'm more of a fan of their older shows and their albums. I will still go see them live, but I usually try to concentrate on the energy and the music, over the vocals. But it's completely understandable for most people to be turned off by Chino's live vocals.Well. I'm pretty sure chino is aware he is not the best live singer.

Some of my friends always comment on Chino's vocals live, it's like an easy go to negative reaction if people don't like them, it annoys me, but I've always said Deftones are not for everybody, some people just don't get it

I have no idea why he decides to sing stuff completely out of his range on albums now. He doesn't seem to have as much trouble doing older songs, well except Digital Bath.

I wonder why he rarely sounds good live. That Team Sleep live album/DVD recording was awesome, he sounded great, almost as good as he did on the studio album. Also, I guess his age affected his voice, take a look at performances from the early 2000s, he sounded great. Remember that he had throat issues in the past and almost lost his voice. Maybe he never fully recovered from that.

Yeah, he sounds amazing on that Team Sleep live recording. I think all that screaming obviously impacted immensely and the throat problem has no doubt had a lasting affect.
He fucked up his vocal cords late in the white pony tour and he was never the same after, but he had good moments after where he sounded quite good, like in 2003 and 2010. But It will never be as good as pre-2000. Now I guess it's mostly age, but it's not a great excuse. If you take care of your voice and have vocal coaches, its very avoidable.Well. I'm pretty sure chino is aware he is not the best live singer.

BTW, Romantic Dreams has never been one of my favorite Deftones songs. I always thought the song had some shifts in tone that were a little too drastic, from the melodramatic verses to a joyful, poppy chorus, but it has actually kind of grown on me recently. Maybe it's the shift I've had from 26 to 34 in those eight years since Koi dropped, so I appreciate it more.
The shifts in Geo always worked better for me, but that's probably just because I really like the weirdness of Geo.Well it has one of my favorite vocal melodies of chino ever. So I like the song still. I'd would have PERSONALLY prefer it to be more focus. but that's just preference.
So many fragile minds in here, calling for censorship of opinions that stray from "OMG DEFTONES ARE THE BEST!" Ya'll sound ridiculous and have lost all credibility.I always complain about deftones stuff here and no one wanted to censor me or call me out. I think it might have been the way you presented your opinion, but I don't know.

Are you guys really discussing song titles? If its a good song, they can name it 'Bang my ass' for all I care.We were just talking about Chino not watching his live performance so I brought it up. I know it is old news. but it still to this day kinda affect my adoration for this band.
About the whole 'Chino is not good live' thing, its old news. They know it, we know it, everybody else knows it. I went to two shows, he was amazing in one, and good in the other. You dont have to be a perfect singer to have an impactful career. Theres a LOT of "bad" (or not perfect, live) singers out there with decades of work who influenced generations. Still do. Chino is one. You gotta see the artist for the whole package. Criativity, range, will to keep improving and evolving artistically, etc. He has it all. Otherwise he wouldnt be praised like he is.
Would it be nicer if he was more consistent live? (thats what I think its his problem on shows: inconsistency) Sure.
Haven't had Internet access much until recently. Have I missed anything important? Sounds like a new song is coming out next week though???

Well. I'm pretty sure chino is aware he is not the best live singer.i read a few articles that he's got some of the best vocal range out there (octaves), so when he's on, he's really on. but maybe the vocal damage from 2001 caused him inconsistency
I have no idea why he decides to sing stuff completely out of his range on albums now. He doesn't seem to have as much trouble doing older songs, well except Digital Bath.

ranked 11th here, out of all singers, not just rock (maybe partly cause his scream is pretty much the best ever)

there's not much to talk about on Ohms beside useless prediction, or not tolerated leak talks, so I'm fine with off topic discussions.Well. I think we're all going slightly off topic in this thread but this is a great post - extremely interesting read.
On the topic of live performances, someone mentioned the Team Sleep sessions... omg yes, Chino never sounded better imo. His best recorded performance of his career? Prove me wrong Ves!
I feel like Chino always does well live when he isn't moving around as much or jumping around trying to hype the crowd up. If he just stands and sings, he'll probably be consistent live. Id rather him engage and move with the crowd though instead of just standing in one spot the entire time.

I think you nailed it. Especially now they are all 50 or close to 50 years old. Minus Sergio, I guess...
My first child is due to October 13. I want the album ASAP, but I'm still enjoying the moment I still can sleep normally and have a life for now :)

My daughter is the same age. She doesn’t normally have to listen to what I listen to but I played Ohms a couple times over YouTube on the TV and last night it popped up in the car and I heard her singing it. She was singing “time won’t change this”. I must say, I was a proud dad hearing that 8)
Thanks! I saw you edited this twice. It's a boys. It'll take a while before he'll play some of my mario levels :PMy first child is due to October 13. He even mentioned not bringing his guitar.
damn I'm a shitty listener lol, I completely missed the part where he talked about writing Ohms with just the three of them (Chino, Abe and Steph). "get back to basics". That's interesting...
Anyone else agree that 2009-2010 was a good year for Chino's live performances? He looked great and sounded great to me. I saw some shows where he was spot on. There's an elusive video of WGTB from 2009 that I'm dying to see/hear. While searching thru videos I came across this one I never saw before, he sounded pretty good here.
[edit: nvm I have seen it, I remember the "London, England" part during Rocket Skates, cracks me up! ;D]

It was only the start of the process that it was just the three of them.
I think 2009 was an exceptional year for Chino. The best performance of WGTB I've heard occurred during the Slipknot tour. Sadly the video is long gone, Chino screamed the entire thing and sounded like he was hungry for more. It was unreal!

Oh, I really love that album. The entire band kills it and Gil Sharone's drumming on it is just beautiful.
I think Chino not toting his guitar was a symbolic and helpful gesture. It was only the start of the process that it was just the three of them.
Yeah, and as he makes clear, they did that so Stephen, in particular, could musically reconnect after Gore. Seems like doing that paid off big time for Ohms.
My opinion - maybe it's a hot take - is there's no way his voice isn't doctored on that record. They did some auto tuning or something. (I love the album ... just my thoughts on that. It sounds too perfect. )
As the last song on the record, it’s kind of sung in retrospect – it’s looking back not just at the batch of songs that come before it, but our lives and our surroundings. The verses are reflecting, but the chorus kind of says, ‘Yes this, but this’ – it’s saying that time will change with the decisions we make. It’s a question and an answer. This is kind of what I was hoping for; the album being yet unreleased and having not paid any attention to the leaks I can only try to project, but Ohms gave me that feeling of an epilogue rather than a closer. Hearing that the song's placement serves more as a way of looking back than a final conclusion sorts of match with what I wanted to hear.

i think he pulled it off. in the 2001 team sleep cactus club live show(i've had on cd since then) he hits all the notes, and sounds really good the whole way. and that was a year he struggled. he's gotten through plenty of deftones shows, and crosses without problems. just depends on the night. he had a great night thenMy opinion - maybe it's a hot take - is there's no way his voice isn't doctored on that record. confirmed but not completely: here's clips from that concert from people that attended. you can hear him going out of tune in some clips (more clearly in Death by Plane) but he still sounds pretty much pitch perfect in some others (see Your Skull is Red)

I was lucky enough to go to the TS Woodstock show. It's probably my favorite concert experience ever, mostly because it was completely unlike any other concert I've ever been to.

Oh man am very jealous! It really did feel like the most perfect way to experience them live. I saw them at the knitting factory in NY back in 2005 but wasn’t anything close to the woodstock show.
Was just thinking, regarding the post earlier about hearing the “New Songs” live. It would be great if they did something similar to the “Live Trees” performance the band did for Diamond Eyes. Playing the Record in its entirety with virtually no crowd.that is an awesome idea. hope they do the whole album live like they did with diamond eyes
A guy can Wish right?!
I'm ready to ignore next friday's single to actually be surprised by the first song. it'll be difficult.
I was also at the TS Knitting Factory show. I was kinda high when I saw them that night, but it was good from what I remember.
Since we have a whole another week before Genesis, I gotta recomend a newer band I've really been digging lately called Greyhaven. Kind of a generic band name, but their singer will go between sounding like Chino, Keith Buckley and Daryl Palumbo, often in one song. It's pretty impressive.

This shit is killer. Around the time Gore was coming out, I was managing a Target in New Jersey and a cashier I had asked me to check his band out. I was hesitant but they’re called Thank You Scientist. Legit stuff
I WILL wait it out. Come friday, ill check outta here till the record comes and join the fun again. But im teally working on myself in a lot of ways right now and patience is one of those things i can get better at. This is the ultimate test
You got this. You get to hear it together as a piece for the first time PLUS dont underestimate how good it could feel just to do it. If i can do this, i feel like ill get over a lot more later
The song has grown on me significantly as of late... Probably like a 4.5, though still in the lower tier as far as their closers go.

I love Thank you Scientist, Maps of Non-Existent Places is a wonderful album.
You'll probably like it if you're into bands like Coheed and Cambria or The Mars Volta.

I completely agree. It’s a great track and I think it was a great choice as a single. I just don’t like it being the album closer. Maybe I will feel differently once I hear the entire album as a whole. But I doubt it. I really hope we get one beautiful slow paced gem on this album. We’ll see.
They're teasing Genesis lyrics on their IG story!
