Title: Mixed Martial Arts Thread (UFC/Pride)
Post by: lostcancer on Nov 21, 2005, 07:34 AM
i just recently have really gotten into this stuff, ever since i saw my stupid fat cousin wear his tapout shirt everyday for about 8 months i was turned off for some reason haha... nah but its pretty awesome. Anybody else into it?

Edit: just saw people talk about this in sports thread.... man... deserves its own thread!

I think 2006 is going to be a big year for mixed martial arts. More and more people are starting to see that it IS a real sport and not just about the violence. I already saw some people here hating on it but i'm pretty sure they don't really know much about it. It's not for everyone but just because you say you hate violence doesn't make it any less of a sport.

just had to get that out haha so rockedcancer gonna watch the new years eve pride?

Yup im into it big time, mainly UFC & Pride FC, UFC 56 was a bit of a so so show, but Franklin's KO on Nate was awesome.

I'm also starting to watch King of the Cage and some K1 Kickboxing

I can't get enought of it.

We used to get it over here in UK. I think we still do but it's not widely viewed. Anyway, all i fucking remember was that Tito Ortiz was a fucking badass. As was Frank Shamrock.

Post by: DarkHorse on Nov 21, 2005, 04:10 PM
yeah Frank Shamrock was awesome, sucks he doesn't care much for fighting these days. His fight with Tito Ortiz was exciting to watch.Have any of you seen it?

I used to have fights with these rules, now I only have submission matches once in awhile.

yes...i'm a huge fan. i've seen all of the ufc's, and most of the Pride's. honestly Pride is really where it's at. UFC has a better welterweight divison, but Pride has better everything else.

if you get really into it enough to join other forum's the best one is the underground (as joe "the piece of shit" rogan said) and also www.sherdog.com has a really good one.

the anouncements that Dana made at UFC 56 were unbelievable. shamrock and ortiz as the captains at ultimate fighter 3 will be really good for those fighters. ken and tito will want to win so bad that they will make the fighters better
also the return of Frank Mir. he was champ when he went out, he will probably have 1 fight to get the rust off, then fight Arlovski who has been a wrecking machine as of late
and BJ Penn!! complete stud. only person to ever beat Hughes in the octagon. he was also champ when he went out, and that just adds to the strenght of the already stacked welterweight division
Title: UFC/PRIDE/FIGHTING
Post by: DarkHorse on Nov 21, 2005, 05:34 PM
Another good forum to visit is  at fightHQ.com some people from sherdog go there but it's not as crowded.

Damn TUF3 is gonna be crazy but this time it's going to be light heavyweights and middleweights or what? anyways when Lex Luthor(Dana) made those announcements I was excited, then BJ Penn came out I looked over to RockedCubus cause no one else knew who he was haha and we were both like DAAAAMN!
Title: UFC/PRIDE/FIGHTING
Post by: Gaz on Nov 21, 2005, 05:36 PM
The announcments were awesome, Tito & Ken will be great coaches on TUF 3.

I'm glad to see that Frank Mir will be back in action soon, I doubt he will be able to overcome Arlovski though, that man is a fighting machine.
Title: UFC/PRIDE/FIGHTING
Post by: CentralIllNoise on Nov 21, 2005, 05:47 PM
Mir can beat Arlovski if he takes it to the ground immediately. he's not in the same league standing up as AA, but on the ground Mir has the advantage, on top and bottom. i'm not saying AA is bad on the ground, he's never been submitted, but Mir has the advantage. it will be interesting. AA's only loses are by knockout, and Mir doesn't have the stand up to beat him by knockout.

Post by: died20times on Nov 21, 2005, 05:59 PM
i watched one of those fights last night. dude knocked him out cold.  it was tight.
Title: UFC/PRIDE/FIGHTING
Post by: Gaz on Nov 21, 2005, 06:00 PM
Yeah I agree, Arlovski is deadly with his standup but Mir is deadly with ground work, it should make for an interesting fight when they meet.
Title: UFC/PRIDE/FIGHTING
Post by: DefCubus on Nov 21, 2005, 09:16 PM
Mir says he's been able to practice a lot of new techniques that dont require a lot of strength, since he was able to exert much force on his leg. Now that he can, he says he's better than before... but my money would still be on Arlovski..but not all of it :)
With Mir's inactivity, and Arlovski getting better and better, possibly stronger too. As long as Arlovski has decent takedown defense, he has a good chance.

BJ Penn should have a fight against Karo, the winner should have a title shot. For now, no one deserves it more than Georges St. Pierre.

My fight with Joe didn't seem like a fight, it seemed like practice, it was no big deal...

I understand the Pierre wants a fight at the title, he has already had a chance...

I'm not sure if he is going to fight me or BJ...

I wasn't overly impressed with Pierre's hands, Sherk caught him a few time, overall he is a good competitor...
VatoJorge: F hughes

my welterweight rankings for UFC:

Champ-Hughes
1. St. Pierre
2. Karo
3. Sanchez
4. Penn
5. Trigg
6. Sherk
7. Riggs

that would make for an amazing tourney

Riggs shouldnt even be on there, he only has 1 victory at Welterweight. Diaz should be on there.

i really don't like nick diaz, and riggs hasn't been down as a welterweight very long. i see riggs as having more potential. he's only 23, probably the hardest hitter in the weight class, and if he gets tapped out again that quick he will learn some ground game
Title: UFC/PRIDE/FIGHTING
Post by: DefCubus on Nov 22, 2005, 08:01 AM
Hmm I dont think hes the hardest hitter, people seem to believe that because he used to be a heavyweight, he still has all that power. He himself has said that he isnt that strong, he just has explosive power.
Diaz is 22, he has great jiu jitsu and his striking is really good too. Did you watch his fight against Sanchez? Wow, great display of ground game and jiu jitsu.

Diaz definitely has more potential in my eyes and if there is a tournament, he should definitely be a contender.

One thing I notice about UFC and pride fighting is, even the guy that looses in a match is really tuff and can pound a regular person into the ground :D  It takes heart and skill just to even compete in those matches. I'd never want to fight those guys, they would destroy me.

UFC Beyond The Glory
http://s11.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=16MDYKZI4WC1P1U87PFDD3CQS0

This was on FSN a few months back. Its kind of a documentary on how the UFC started out as a no rules competition, almost got shut down, and has turned into a regulated sport.

It also follows Rich Franklin on his career leading up to winning the Middleweight belt. :)

The following statement was made by Armando Garcia of the California State Athletic Commission....

Dear Mixed Martial Arts Community:

It is with great enthusiasm that I am proud to announce that sanctioned Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) competitions are coming to California!

This is an exciting moment for MMA. It is also a challenging one for the California State Athletic Commission. The CSAC is the most active commission in the United States.

Our commission places a great emphasis on the health and safety of the athletes. This concern is seconded by our commitment to our consumers.

If you are planning on presenting or participating in an MMA event in our State please be prepared to strictly follow our rules.

I look forward to seeing you at the events.

Sincerely,

Armando Garcia
Executive Officer
California State Athletic Commission

Mayhem Miller got arrested for Burglary and Assault

Jason Miller, the enigmatic middleweight who just recently signed a multiple-fight, six-figure contract with ICON sport, was arrested on charges of burglary in the first degree and assault in the third degree Friday afternoon in Honolulu, KHNL channel 8, an NBC news affiliate in Hawaii, reported on its Web site. How awesome is Gomi?

Silva and Arona need another rematch, but Silva was doing great round 1. Stuffing all Aronas takedowns. Round 2/3 were mostly for Arona, but Silva was doing really good fighting from his guard. Arona could hardly land any decent shots.

I dont understand why Crocop didnt go for any takedowns. It just shows how he needs to work on his hands a lot more, instead of relying on his kick. I dont want to say 1-dimensional since we have seen him on the ground and hes okay.
Title: UFC/PRIDE/FIGHTING
Post by: CentralIllNoise on Jan 02, 2006, 07:08 PM
yeah, Gomi looked great

and the arona fight...even though it seemed like silva had control most of round one, he still never landed anything either. watching that fight just makes me thing that shogun is gonna tear apart whoever he faces next out of them.

cro cop looked all around disappointing. he was not the aggresser, he didn't try for a single takedown and i'm really surprised that he didn't get charged on when he kept walking away and looking at the clock. i think that since cro cop was the no1 contender going into the fight, hunt will get a shot at fedor now. but that prolly won't be much of a fight, because fedor will make hunt fight from the ground

did you see alexandor fight? it didn't show it on the pay per view i watched

Pride Fighting Championships: Tell us about next year's heavyweight prospects, including how Mirko was feeling before the fight.
Nobuyuki Sakakibara: Mirko had a cold before he left Croatia and a slight fever of 37C (98.6F) after coming to Japan. He saw a doctor and despite that, climbed into the ring. As you saw in the fight, Mirko fought with shoes on but the truth is that he hurt his ankle and apparently wore the shoes so his opponent wouldn't notice. Although it's a fact that Mirko climbed into the ring full of injuries, he's not the type of fighter to use that as an excuse and I would like to have a Hunt VS Mirko rematch with both in good shape.

Spencer Fisher vs. Aaron Riley
Drew Fickett vs. Josh Burkman
Chris Leben vs. Jorge Rivera
Alex Karalexis vs. Jason Von Flue
Jonathan Goulet vs. Duane Ludwig

not sure what my picks are yet..might have them done later tonight

Franklin vs Loiseau UFC 58!
GSP vs Penn too!

damn those are gonna be good fights. I have to say though that i'll be rooting for The Crow this time around even though I like Ace and of course GSP.

Post by: CentralIllNoise on Jan 07, 2006, 04:56 AM
wow. that would be a great fight card. Tito vs. Forrest huh? interesting. one of my buddies from school has a brother who is a chyropractor (spelling?) and he does that for Salavery and helps him train, i've gotta root for him even though Terrell is tough

if you guys get time join the fantasy groups i made

RUMORS

UFC 59 IN APRIL

- Matt Hughes vs Karo Parisyan
- Jorge Gurgel vs TBA
- Tito Ortiz vs Forrest Griffin
- Andrei Arlovski vs Frank Mir

glad to see Gurgel getting a shot.
Title: UFC/PRIDE/FIGHTING
Post by: DarkHorse on Jan 08, 2006, 09:42 AM
I think UFC is gonna bring back the lightweights sometime soon, they signed Yves Edwards and Duane Ludwig. Gurgel is a 155 fighter and Florian would be better at lightweight too. I hope they do bring it back so they can give Ivan Menjivar a chance haha.
Title: UFC/PRIDE/FIGHTING
Post by: DefCubus on Jan 08, 2006, 10:13 PM
Yup Yves Edwards signed a 3 fight deal..
Theres a small rumor that Genki Sudo is considering going back to the UFC.
Title: UFC/PRIDE/FIGHTING
Post by: CentralIllNoise on Jan 08, 2006, 11:22 PM
i never was that big of a lightweight fan

i still think ufc should push for a welterweight tourney. it will never be this stacked again, and if all the talented fighters don't get their shot they will start leaving. if hughes is fighting karo next diego should get the winner of penn-gsp. then you've still got trigg, sherk, diaz and riggs hangin around
Title: UFC/PRIDE/FIGHTING
Post by: DefCubus on Jan 08, 2006, 11:40 PM
Trigg is definitely out of the UFC. He's said so on MMA weekly radio. Diego doesnt even come close to deserving GSP.. Diego should fight Joe Stevenson.. that would be a great fight!
I agree, a welterweight tourney would be the shit right now. They probably will start leaving, seeing as how UFC is paying their fighters so poorly and MMA is becoming more popular. They can get bigger purses and more chances elsewhere.

Lightweights are great fights to watch. They hardly gas so the whole fight is fast paced. Also a lot of the great fighters at welterweight are naturally lightweights (BJ Penn, Stevenson, Gurgel etc..) and I'd love to see Jens Pulver, Yves Edwards, Ivan Menjivar fight.
Title: UFC/PRIDE/FIGHTING
Post by: CentralIllNoise on Jan 09, 2006, 12:20 AM
yeah..i didn't really think about Trigg too much when i typed his name, i just associate him with ufc. i know he's doing radio right now and annonced the last Pride (and did a great job in my opinion). but to my knowledge he has not signed anywhere else yet and he is too young and talented to quit fighting. if he learns how to defend the rear naked he'll be alright

i think diego does deserve gsp, penn, karo, hewes, sherk, SOMEBODY! since being with ufc he has had 1 worthy opponent, diaz, and won that fight. he breezed through the ultimate fighter competion in the weight class above him, when will he be challenged?

and yeah, the lighweights don't run out of gas and a lot of their fights are high octane, but i guess i am more of a fan of guys more my size fighting, as opposed to 155lbs. penn could dominate all of them again if he chose too. and i know a guy who has fought jens pulver in one of pulvers early fights, so it would be cool to see him get some more ufc fights
Title: UFC/PRIDE/FIGHTING
Post by: DefCubus on Jan 09, 2006, 04:34 AM
Haha teddy and I just chatted with Trigg. He doesnt know if Pride will offer him a contract to fight, but they do want him to stay within the "Family". So who knows.

Diego isnt ready for Penn, Gsp, Hughes. Hes a good fighter, but what makes him look even better, is fighting guys that have little experience. Stevenson would be a great match up, since they both have a lot of experience, and both won TUF. Easily a Ultimate Fight Night headliner.

We'll just have to see how Penn does with the new batch of guys coming in. If he beats GSP, I'll be rooting for Penn against Hughes.

Just glad Von Flue won.
Title: UFC/PRIDE/FIGHTING
Post by: DarkHorse on Jan 17, 2006, 08:22 AM
So Tim "Cage Grabber" Sylvia won TSSS!

It wasn't the most exciting fight but what else could it have been? Auseerio fought a smart fight against a big fighter like that, I saw that he was trying to take it to the ground but wasn't able to. In the 2nd round Ausserio almost got the takedown but Tim grabbed the fence. I think with that slam Auserrio would not have let Tim back up and might have subed Tim. It's over now so Sylvia vs Arlovski is next. I'm pretty sure I know the outcome of that fight.

oh yeah FUCKIN Royce Gracie is back in UFC! and against Hughes, I wonder how much Bank Royce is making with this fight. I'm excited to see him back but it's not gonna change the UFC forever.

oo and KO by duane or whatever was so fuckin quick and clean . quickest win ive seen, it was like 5 seconds into the first round, even tho they counted it as 11 seconds.

Well personally, I believe that Georges St. Pierre is too well rounded for BJ. Penn. BJ. Penn is a great Brazilian Jiu Jitsu master, dont get me wrong, but I dont believe he is as strong as GSP, or has a better stand up than he does.
GSP is also training with a Gracie right now, on top of his already stellar ground work. But.. then again.. BJ does have something to prove to the UFC and fans around the world who still believe he is the welterweight champion.
Although my money is on GSP, I believe that BJ will bring his A Game and definitely give GSP all he can handle.. but BJ cannot handle GSP's Riddum..ha ha ha.
I cant wait to watch this at Jorges house. USA vs Canada baby Wooo!

Trigg isnt fighting in pride yet. He just beat Ronald Juhn in Rumble on the Rock in the tournament, so he'll be back there in March.. after that.. who knows, but Trigg says Pride definitely wants to keep him.
He'll still be doing commentary on the Bushido events and maybe FSN now that Bas is back.

I doubt Shogun would fight Wanderlei.. they didnt speak much english so I didnt bother asking them any questions..

Tito Ortiz
Andrei Suavelovski

David Terell
Chael Sonnen
Evan Tanner
Karo Parisyan

I'm a fan of Brandon Vera cause he's entertaining to watch, he also likes Rush and the Crow haha

From Sundays mmaweekly chat:

David 'The Crow' Loiseau gets a shot at Rich 'Ace' Franklin and his UFC Middleweight Title at UFC 58 on March 4th, in an event being billed as USA vs. Canada. On the same card, the Canadian welterweight sensation, Georges 'Rush' St. Pierre faces his toughest challenge yet, BJ Penn. Vera didn't pick a winner of the St. Pierre and Penn bout, saying he liked both fighters, but he did pick a winner of the main event. Brandon picked Loiseau to defeat the champ. Vera also expressed a desire to train with the Loiseau and St. Pierre camp in the future.

I was sad after the event. To start things off Rizzo got KTFO and I really didn't want to see that happen my heart sunk, and then what happened to Shogun...I hope he'll be ok soon but I guess we have some fights to look forward to now. I was happy for Ovareem though because although I like him I definately wasn't expecting him to win the fight. Sergei was beat to a pulp and it was mostly due to the dislocated shoulder but he took his loss.

so what did you guys think?

gsp vs. penn was a pretty cool fight. i had it socred 29-28 gsp..not sure how 1 of the judges had penn winning. extremely close match though

Ace completely dominated Crow. i dont think there is a legit contendor at 185 in ufc, i think he should fight liddell
Title: Re: Mixed Martial Arts Thread (UFC/Pride)
Post by: Teddy. on Mar 05, 2006, 09:32 AM
damn I was scared during the GSP vs Penn fight, after that cut under the eye and the broken nose the fight became a lot harder for St.pierre. I think Penn definately got that first round but 2 and 3 belonged to St.Pierre. The crow was dominated but even though he was kind of running I give him props for going the distance, he wasn't going to stand and trade only to get KTFO'ed early in the fight. He definately has heart, when he rocked Franklin everyone got up and I hope he heals up nicely and comes back.

How about that Yves fight? I really didn't see him losing that fight

me either. that messed up my picks along with a couple other fights. he does have 10 losses though...

next for gsp...hughes. amazing rematch

next for Franklin???? liddell???

my UFC 59 picks

Arlovski over Sylvia
Ortiz over Griffin
Sherk over Diaz
Monson over Cruz
Terrell over Smith
Karo over Thompson
Lambert over Martin
Alves over Noble
Tanner over Levens

and yeah, Royce Gracie still fights. he has taken a break from the UFC for like 8 years, but has continued to fight in Brazil and Japan. he actually isnt as old as you might think. he's younger than Randy Couture, and not that much older than Chuck Liddell or Ken Shamrock. Royce will make his return to the UFC in the next even, against UFC Welterweight Champ. (and Central Illinois native) Matt Hughes. i think Hughes will dominate the fight and win by decision

Chuck hasnt lost since that fight. he has dominated all of the sense. Quinten is a "free agent" and there is a chance that UFC might pick him up. that would make for a great rematch, and would draw a good crowd

UFC 59...4.5 hours away

the main event for UFC 62 is Forrest Griffen/Tito Ortiz (still undecided) vs. Ken Shamrock. it cant get much worse than that

Sup man

The 2nd round of the OWGP is gonna be real good but i'm more excited for the Bushido Welterweight tournament because you know there will be some exciting fights.

The Axe Murderer replaces Fedor for the 2nd round also so I hope he stomps all over Hunt if they fight.

yeah, the owgp is shaping up to be cool, espically with wandy in it now. what do you think the 2nd round will be? here would be my guesses:

Yoshida vs. Fujita
Barnett vs. Hunt
Wanderlei vs. Nog
Werdum vs. CroCop

none of these fights have happened before, that is my basic logic behind them. but i kinda doubt they'd put Nog vs. Wandy this early

and yeah, the 185 tourney looks cool, and will get even deeper with Hendo jumping in the 2nd round

I was pretty dissapointed with UFC 61 but highlight of the night? CHUCK LIDDELL vs WANDERLEI SILVA in november if chuck sucessfully defends his belt against Babalu. I have to say sorry to Babalu because I was rooting for him but now I hope Chuck wins so we can see that fight happen.

Chuck over Wandy (if UFC rules, and cage)

Franklin over Henderson

Hughes over any 170 in Pride

Fedor/Nog/Barnett/CroCop over any UFC heavyweight

Haha!  I got started on one night becasue I was talking to this chap about martial arts.  One second it was all hunk-dory and the next he's telling me he's gonna knock seven shades of shite out of me.  I can't remember why the sudden change of mood happened.  I seem to remember him telling me he was shit hot at something , then me saying jokingly "id kick your ass at judo". I suppose that's the risk you run when you're talking about fighting to complete strangers.  At first he was sympathising with me after witnessing bouncer brutality, then he probably wished they proper kicked my head in.

I was also dissapointed with UFC 61, it had an anti climax feel to it, the Arlovski vs Sylvia fight was dull, can't beleive Andre didn't try to take Tim down

Tito vs Ken...well, I was shocked at how Herb Dean stepped in, but on the replay you can see Ken wide open taking those elbows to his face. I they will definatly have another fight sometime soon.

Basically everyone I've talked to who has real respect for MMA (including myself) HATES the idea of Ortiz vs. Shamrock III. Dana White, however, knows exactly how to make a dollar. He's definitely a smart guy, and he wouldn't let an opportunity like a third fight between them pass him by. When Ken loses, he'll probably retire anyway. Hopefully.

Gaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrggggggggghhhhhhhhh!!!  Parisyan lost!!!  My girlfriend and I called each other right after the fight (she studies Judo as well) and we were screaming about the match!  It was a great fight though.  Karo was able to pull out a bunch of awesome throws (that O-uchi-gari and the first Harai-goshi were incredible) which was great!  I gave the first round to Karo.  The second round was close but I gave that one to Sanchez.  The third round was all Sanchez.  Karo had nothing left by then, Sanchez was in much better shape.  I had it scored 29-28 Sanchez.  I don't know what was with that judge that had it 30-26.

I liked the Sasaki-Lister fight too.  Though Sasaki was a moron for dropping into Lister's guard like that.  It completely cost him the match.
Title: Re: Mixed Martial Arts Thread (UFC/Pride)

Damn Karo vs Diego was an insane fight. I thought Karo was badly injured in the beggining because he looked like he was in pain but he kept fighting hard. I definately don't agree with the 30-26 either but I do think Diego won, How about that knee that knocked Karo's tooth out?

haha Sasaki man that guy is a fool for doing that but hey he got out of some dangerous stuff so props to him.

The rest of the fights weren't bad and it sucks that Goulet lost but Kos seems to have improved a lot.

i gave the 1st round to Diego, the 2nd round to Karo, and the 3rd round to Diego, for 29-28. but actually for the first 2-2.5 minutes of the 3rd round Karo was winning, before it got to the ground. then he gassed, and that pissed me off. i really think he took this fight lightly

Man this weekend is going to be badass UFC on saturday, Pride Bushido on sunday.

I'll be rooting for Babalu and I can't wait to see the stare down. I'm also glad Nick Diaz is now fighting against Neer so it's another fight i'm looking forward to.

What the hell was Babalu thinking? dat fool threw away the fight just swinging wildly like that.

Anyways it wasn't a bad event and i'm glad Diaz won in awesome fashion.

He just can't handle Liddell, that's all.  ;) But seriously,I wish the fight had gone on longer than a minute and a half. I knew Chuck would win,but I wanted to see what Renato had,and when he fell,i knew it was over. And then he started fighting Big John thinking it was Chuck...hahahah!!!!

And I wasn't happy with the Griffin/ Bonnar fight either. Thier first fight was great. There was no floor action at all the whole fight (which i like) and they just ran in circles too much. There were good hit's granted, but I wanted more.   :-\

Ok i'm done....

There was no way it could live up to all the hype and we would have been lucky if it was as action packed as the first. You could clearly see the difference between Forrest and Bonner now.

there's a countdown to ufc 63 tonight on spike tv

Hughes is going to beat Penn and then I hope GSP can be the one to dethrone him.

I'm pulling for Loiseau too even though i'm a fan of both fighters I just gotta go with the crow! and as for the rest of the fights they should be pretty good except for a few undercard ones. I hope Rashad learned how to finish fights or that Lambert shows him how a fight is finished.

Daaaaaamn Franklin got F-ed up. It was gross when they showed the replay of the knee and you could see the nose shift position. Florian didn't get destroyed but he never had a chance, the rest of the fights were aiight.

Silva should probably fight Marquardt or swick next.

I think BJ Penn is actually probably the most talented of them all.  His problem is that he's lazy.  He clearly doesn't work nearly as hard as Hughes or St. Pierre but is still able to give them stiff competition.  But my favorite of the three will definitely have to be St. Pierre, Kyokushin for Life!

EDIT:  Actually, I can't really stand watching Matt Hughes fight because he's so boring to watch.

I'd rather watch people like Karo Parisyan or St. Pierre because they do more out of the ordinary things like Judo throws or spinning back kicks.  Almost everyone in the UFC is kind of boring frankly.  There's no crazy characters like Genki Sudo and most people come from a Wrestling background which just isn't as fun to watch as Judo and SAMBO practitioners that you find in Pride.

Very true about the unorthodox techniques. I personally love Hughes because of his whole "Iowa wrestler" aura and attitude towards fighting and winning. He may not be the flashiest fighter but he always comes to fight and has only let 6 of his 45 professional matches reach a decision.

Karo "The Heat" Parisyan!!!  Ok, so I stopped watching after the Karo fight because I had a research paper to write so don't spoil the rest for me.  Karo's striking was really good and both guys opened up some nasty cuts.  It was too bad the other guy was so afraid of Karo throwing him that every time they got close he jumped back but still a good fight.

Okay i dont really watch pride too much but i follow the UFC frequently. So i want to make  predictions on something. First off i think that Couture will beat Sylvia for the Heavyweight title in march. Second- Cro Cop will become heavyweight champ. 3- Rampage will probably become Light heavyweight champ ( but i hope Liddell wins) 4- I can see Matt Hughes getting the title back and then maybe a title defense and then retire on a high note instead of holding on too long.

I use to like Tim Sylvia until he started fighting not to lose. He doesnt wanna knock someone out or submit him he just wants to hang in there until the end. But Couture wont allow that, dont care how old he is. and cro cop and rampage are obviously excellent fighters.

UFC 70 is apparently going to be held in the UK and in my hometown of Manchester, with Micheal Bisping on the card, it's been tipped to take place at the end of April

Oh and Cro Cop and Rampage are going to fucking rule in the UFC, Tim Sylvia better get all of the precious time he has with the heavyweight belt, because if Couture doesn't beat him, Cro Cop defiantly will!

I don't think Couture will beat Sylvia, although I'd like for that too happen.  Like you said, Sylvia has been a pretty lame fighter as of late.  Crocop will indeed destroy either one of them however.  Rampage and Liddell will be a little closer though I see Rampage taking that.  I don't believe that Matt Hughes will ever beat St. Pierre unless he gets lucky.  Matt Hughes is just a little too old to beat him now.  In fact, I think Hughes would have a tough time with Sanchez and I think that should be the next fight he has for sure.  The only person in the UFC I see really giving St. Pierre a challenge right now would be BJ Penn should he actually take the fight seriously.

As far as Couture vs Sylvia goes I doubt couture will win even though i'm a fan of his. Atleast I can look forward to CroCop destroying Sylvia. I'd also like to see Matt go against Diego and as of right now i'm NOT looking forward to UFC 68 but we'll see how the final card looks like.

Can't wait to see Rampage and CroCop at 67

Oh and i have this theory...it might seem weird or stupid lol but just hear me out.... isnt it funny that now that we have Cro Cop coming over to ufc ...that randy comes out of retirement to fight sylvia..you would think they would give cro cop a warm up match(Ufc 67) and then Sylvia but no. And if not Cro Cop then how bout Brandon Vera??? But no Randy just comes out of retirement. Does it seem like Dana maybe wants the heavyweight belt to be in the hands of someone who has been in the ufc for awhile instead of a newcomer such as cro cop who was in pride for awhile???

yeah i think it's bullshit that Brandon Vera hasn't gotten a shot... he more than deserves it...and i know he could totally dominate lame ass Sylvia

We're going to be seeing that over and over again for years.

Also, consider Heath Herring one of the biggest UFC dissapointments in years.

Herring was apparently injured in his fight, it was defiantly a disappointment though. I can't wait for Cro Cop & Rampage's debuts!

I wanna put money on Cro Cop winning via knockout in round one with a left headkick ;)

Travis Lutter didn't make weight, now the match with Anderson Silva is non title, what a fucking idiot, he's just blown his chance completely.
Title: Re: Mixed Martial Arts Thread (UFC/Pride)

It is kind of a downer that the title will not be on the line anymore but i'm still looking forward to it because we'll see a good ass whoopin anyways. Lutter made a big mistake not being able to make weight though and he looked really odd at the weigh ins. (Like yellow bastard from sin city) Still i'm looking forward to this event because a lot of the fights will be exciting.

*************DON'T READ IF YOU DON'T WANT TO KNOW OUTCOMES*************

Cro Cop vs. Sanchez: Ouch. Eddie's mouth was already hanging open after the first minute. Mirko just stalked and finished him like everyone knew he would.

Rampage vs. Eastman: I'll give Eastman a lot of credit. Quinton is obviously a very tough guy, but Marvin hung in there with him. Wasn't surprised by the knockout, though.

Silva vs. Lutter: What a douche bag this Lutter guy is. Absolutely no excuse for not making weight. He looked like he might pull out a shocker when he mounted, but Silva was too smart and is so damn long, the triangle was a perfect way to end it.

lol Rampage is awesome, I can see him having another fight then maybe later in the year they will have him face Chuck, it's a big money match

Anyone catch the Elite XC show?, if you dont want any spoilers dont read further down

I downloaded it and watched it yesterday, pretty impressed, the womens match stole the show for me!, it was a really good scrap. I was dissapointed in David Louasiou, he just hasn't looked the same after the Rich Franklin fight. The main event was a bit of a mess as well, those were illegal knee's that Frank Shamrock was throwing and it all ended in a bit of a farce, a lot of confusion but Gracie did look really out of it.

though Lorenzo Feratti purchasing Pride is much bigger new than this, the new Superleague will be pretty cool too

im really looking forward to the FREE event this weekend

Arlovski vs. Werdum should be a great fight. 2 guys in the top 10 in the world ranked very close to eachother. i think Werdum takes it on a late sub, but if it goes the distance AA has the definatey advantage

plus CroCop and Machida are fighting. two guys with potential to be UFC champs someday

this will be the best free live event ever yet, by far

They're screwing Jardine over though.

Yeah he was injured,Shogun shouldn't have taken the fight, but he did and underestimated Forrest.
I still think Shogun wins 9 times out of 10, but it was a big win for Forrest.
Who do you think is more deserving of a title shot now then?

I saw it and yeah,Forrest won. . Rampage thought he was bad ass giving cold as looks and stuff...then got his ass beat. But he admitted he got his ass beat and wasn't a bitch about it like some fighters are,so he had good sportsmanship. Forrest kept kicking his leg,and helped him out alot.  Forrest has improved soo much since he was on the UFC show forever ago.

Brock Lesnar is the new HW champion. i'm not surprised, he's not experienced, technical, or well rounded but that strength and (surprising) speed makes up for it. i don't think he deserved a title shot on his 4th fight tough. dana white is definitly milking that cash cow, pushing him along to rake in on the pay per views.

can't wait for GSP vs. Penn. that will be a great fucking fight.

how about that fight before the main event... Machida might be my second favorite fighter

The undercard fight after the Franklin Belfort was really good.

I coulda gone either way on the main event, but I was pretty sure Belfort would win.

But I agree, the fights tonight were pretty disappointing. Especially after 102. 102 was fucking amazing.

If you know what GSP is all about, then you're retarted for thinking he was going to box, even though the brief times they were standing up GSP still showed he was better at it, no reason to risk it though the fight was already won.

If this was hockey Hardy had ZERO shots on goal.

Kudos on sticking out his tongue though, and the mowhawk is real cool too.

I know what he is all about.  He loves to lay on people and get decision wins.  I asked his head trainer if GSP is joining the wrestling team haha.  If this was hockey he would have been the devils playing the trap.

I was actually hoping GSP would just knock him out, because I think he could have. The fight was pretty lame, almost as bad as Machidas last fight against Shogun.

Yes indeedy - it was shit hot.  I was extremely dismayed by Silvas defeat - time to hang em up, but Ive a feeling he wont alas.  I must say - Condits win was well worthy of immediate number one contership - the fact he wants a fight before the end of the year facilitates that perfectly - and a match with Fitch seems to be the logical one.  If he can be a ground master like Fitch, he is without a doubt the most worthy man out there to face GSP/Diaz.  Although he didnt get to show it tonight, Kim is usually amazing.  Beating him like that was pretty gosh darned impressive.

Yeah - Melvin Guillard....he was in like season 2 of TUF, went out in the first round.  Was one of those who had potential, but stuff got in the way for whatever reason.  By fuck hes realising it now though - he beat Evan Dunham there a short while back inside a couple of minutes.  Pretty solid bet for a title shot soon enough I reckon.

...and he turns it down.  Rumours offer up Tito.....predicting he'll turn it down too.  Pretty pissed off - was keen to see if Davis was ready for a tilt at Jones.  Outside of him, I cant think of anyone who has a realistic chance of beating Jones.
Title: Re: Mixed Martial Arts Thread (UFC/Pride)
Post by: poofing acid on Jul 14, 2011, 08:37 PM
Well tito turned it down at first but then accepted.  Machida said ok at first but then turned it down.  Ortiz is gonna make another 450k.  Not bad for someone everyone thought was gonna get retired by bader.
Title: Re: Mixed Martial Arts Thread (UFC/Pride)
Post by: lukas989 on Jul 15, 2011, 09:51 AM
Yeah - its a win/win for him anyway...he hardly broke a sweat against Bader, didnt get hit at all really, so he'll be in good shape...flip side being hes got the excuse of having fought so recently ready made if he loses.  I must admit, although not a huge Tito fan, I was happy to see him win...all the old school guys seem to be dropping like flies, so good hes hanging in there.  Its good for Rashad as well to be honest, because, whilst I reckon he'll beat Tito (likely a decision), he would have been beaten by Jones AND Davis - so prolongs his relevancy for a while.  I dont get the purity of hate for Rashad - I like him.

pretty bad exposure for ufc's debut on fox last night

i mean, i enjoyed it but i don't think newcomers will appreciate a 40 minute buildup to a one minute fight

bad decision as well imo to only stream the prelims on facebook

oh well, looking forward to brock vs alistair!

nick diaz fights today for the ufc welterweight interim title, in ufc 143.

he is probably gonna go out with "feiticeira", though dont be shock, if he pulls out some "diamond eyes".

this is gonna be an instant classic. dont miss out.
