fuck yeah!! Oh man, thanks for posting this. That was a great song!

Pearl Jam is amazing. I love them.

Favorite album anyone?

for me: Ten and VS are both awesome. All their albums are great though.

New album will be badass.

My Morning Jacket are gonna be opening for them on a few dates.  Pearl Jam is one of those bands that I have to see but I keep putting it off because I'm poor.  I've seen Vedder jam with Springsteen though.

Pearl Jam is one of my favorite bands in the whole damn world, Ten obviously being my fav album. I saw them live here in Sweden in 2000 and it was an amazing show. two days later I went down to Roskilde in Denmark to see them again and that when 9 people were crushed to death in the audience. it wasn't a very pleasant experience. hope they'll come here soon again an make up for it.

11 people died in the audience, actually. It was aweful.

I've never seen them live, but i hope they'll tour europe with their new album.

8 people died there and one died at the hospital later. that's the story I heard daily for months after the accident.

Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder has revealed to Kerrang! that the band's forthcoming eighth studio album is the most aggressive record the band have ever made.

Vedder and his bandmates - guitarists Mike McCready and Stone Goosard, bassist Jeff Ament and drummer Matt Cameron - are preparing to release the as-yet untitled follow up to 2002's 'Riot Act', after spending over a year holed up in their Seattle recording studio making it.

Pearl Jam hooked up with producer Adam Kasper, who colloborated with them on 'Riot Act' and who has also worked with Foo Fighters, Nirvana, and Queens of the Stone Age, and applied a different working approach to what they'd executed on their previous albums.

"It's been a long one," laughs the usually interview-shy Vedder. "I don't think we had any kind of plan to stretch it out, it just kind of happened. This time we didn't come in with any songs. We just got in a room, looked at each other and played our instruments until things started connecting and formed it from there. Right now, I'm feeling like I don't want to do that again! It was a different process for us and in the end it was a good one, but it was tough.

"When we finished, it felt like we were coming up for air after having not seen the surface for a long time," he adds. "We've never spent that long making a record before, so it was a real trip to be finished with something that was such a commitment. On the night we finished I got in my truck and drove into the woods. I found a spot, rolled down the windows down in the rain and cranked it loud. It felt pretty powerful. At one point, the wind was blowing the trees in perfect time with the beat and it was like the forest was dancing. It felt like we'd achieved something."

Vedder admits that, although he hates to compare the band's work and publicly register his satisfaction with it, he's extremely happy with the new tracks, mainly thanks to the fact that they're heavier than songs Pearl Jam have recorded in the past.

"My favourite music has always been music that is a little more aggressive, with a tempo that's like a runway train and I always wanted our band to be on that train," he explains. "We'd get moments where, live, it would happend but not so much on record. But now that train's running and it's moving pretty quick! this one's more aggressive than stuff we've done before and I don't usually like to say that there's something that i'm so pleased with, but in this case, it's true. We'll just see if the people who buy our records agree and if they can keep up with us. It's really uplifting," Vedder jokes. "I think we should call the record 'Pearl Jam's Good Time Hour!"

Although relcutant to give too much information away regarding the lyrical content of the album, Vedder, who is known for his biting, disaffected world-view, does confess that US political events and the state of the media were a huge influence.

"It was difficult to write after the last US election," he says. "Not because there wasn't anything to say but how do you temper your moral outrage so as not to be just negative? We're a country that instigated a war under false pretences, thousands of people are dying, we're wasting billions of dollars and yet the media is inundated with stories on teenage pop star's weight loss. It's insane. You've got bling this and bling that and it's polluting the mind's of our youth as to what's important in life.

"I assumed that being a father and seeing the world through your child's eyes was going to make everything brighter, more peacful and balanced," adds Vedder, whose first child, Olivia was born in 2004.

"But because of the state of the world, it made me angrier and I wasn't expecting that. Now it's not just about me beng slefish about our generation, it's about looking into the future. But my work is splattered across the lyric pages like blood. The listener's part of it is figuring out what it means."

The band are getting set to head out on the road in support of the album's release. It's something that Vedder is looking forward to, but perhaps that has more to do with his dissatisfaction with the state of today's rock scene....

"I'm excited about participating in rock n' roll and doing our bit," he admits. "We're not really competitive with other bands but there's new music that I find completly vacuous - music that I should be liking or happy that it's popular - but it feels like a travesty or an erosion of what rock music should be."

Are there any bands in particular that you're talking about?

"You know the ones," Vedder answers, with a laugh. "It's a lack of authenticity or something. That'swhat makes us want to be out there - to keep the art form alive."

Pearl Jam's as-yet-untitled new album will be released on May 1 via Sony.

there's starting to come too much music from Pearl Jam, haha. I can barely keep up anymore. I don't think I've listened to the last two albums more than I can count on my both hands. I do love them though and they've been a really big part of my life. but I dunno, lately they haven't been as interesting. I hope this album is different.

ever since Matt Cameron started they've gotten a bit boring.

Pearl Jam are definitly on of my fav bands! There last album was pretty dull but after 'WWSS' i have high hopes for this new stuff, i also heard a demo of another new song called 'Gone' kinda down tempo but still good!

Id have to say my favourite pearl jam albums are Vs. and No Code can listenin to them both from start to finish and enjoy every minute!

Cant wait till they tour europe, but since Roskilde they only play seated venues for safety reasons, which kinda limits where they play!

Yeah, I've always loved Pearl Jam, for me the first three albums are flawless pieces of work! They, along with a few others, were one of the key bands that got me into rock music when I was a kid (well I guess I'm still a kid but you get me). Pisses me off when people say they're to blame for Creed and Nickelback. Sounds like the new album may be closer to the sound of 'Vitalogy', nice and punky and aggressive! Woo! May 1st is gonna be a good day (new PJ and Tool albums)! Hope to see them live this year or next year too!

pearl jams been awesome for years, although i hear that in concert its very hard to decipher what eddies saying.. he kind of rambles words together.

my fav. songs
1. do the evolution  2. yellow ledbetter 3. better man

Woo..
I'm ahead, I'm a man
I'm the first mammal to wear pants, yeah
I'm at peace with my lust
I can kill 'cause in God I trust, yeah
It's evolution, baby

I'm at piece, I'm the man
Buying stocks on the day of the crash
On the loose, I'm a truck
All the rolling hills, I'll flatten' em out, yeah
It's herd behavior, uh huh
It's evolution, baby

Admire me, admire my home
Admire my song, here's my coat
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
This land is mine, this land is free
I'll do what I want but irresponsibly
It's evolution, baby

I'm a thief, I'm a liar
There's my church, I sing in the choir:
(hallelujah... hallelujah...)

Admire me, admire my home
Admire my song, admire my clothes
'Cause we know, appetite for a nightly feast
Those ignorant Indians got nothin' on me
Nothin', why?
Because, it's evolution, baby!

I am ahead, I am advanced
I am the first mammal to make plans, yeah
I crawled the earth, but now I'm higher
Twenty-ten, watch it go to fire
It's evolution, baby
Do the evolution
Come on, come on, come on

Eddie changes alot of lyrics live e.g. " I am a head, i am advanced, i am the first man to wet my pants"

He usually changes the entire lyrics to yellow ledbetter and alters some to wishlist.  As a live band pearl jam are untouchable, cheaper tickets than most bands and play a hell of a lot longer to!

I think I'm just gonna wait and hear the album as a whole.

I know, they even talked about re-recording the first album. I just don't get why they don't like it. I can understand that they're sick of the songs after 15 years or whatever it's been, but that's still the album they have to thank for their success. and it's still the album people know and have heard when you ask them about Pearl Jam.

True, but since Ry mentioned that song in particular, I was expecting something really special. I'm giving their other stuff a listen, I have 'Even Flow' on at the moment, it's alright I guess. Not really my thing though, although this song has some nice guitar-playing in it.

True but it's also a time and place thing.Your right though as Pearl Jam have pretty varied and diverse albums but it's a bad habit of mine to instantly call out fav tracks as they should, like any good band, be heard in album entirity.

"Rear View Mirrow" is a gem although "Black" live is my all time fav. When they played that here the whole crowd sung along....it was beautiful man....*sniffles*

I can kinda get what aenemic is saying! I can be defensive and say 'Oh man, dont diss Pearl jam, they are the shiznit', but then I think, well hey nothing after Vitalogy has impressed me alot, sure there are some parts of their newer albums that I love, but I really am in love with the first few albums mostly. As for you, Zaz, getting into Pearl Jam, try songs like 'Spin The Black Circle', 'Jeremy', 'Once', 'Blood'. Hell if I know!

I've seen them live twice, with 2 days between the shows. first show was friggin amazing. the other show was the one at Roskilde where people got crushed to death. not nearly as amazing.

I really want to see them again and I'm not even worried they'll only play new stuff. Pearl Jam is one of those bands that never forget their old stuff and play equally much from all eras.

since i'm on a pearl jam frenzy these days, i felt like rating the albums of this amazing band:

the 5 masterpieces-

ten (1991) one of the greatest debut albums ever and a classic in rock history - 10/10
vs. (1993) equally as great as ten, if not better. some of my favorite songs on this album. flawless. 10/10
vitalogy (1994) dark, dark, dark...did i mention this album is dark? another masterpiece. 9/10
no code (1996) one of the most underrated albums of the 90's. their most experimental work. 9/10
yield (1998) their last masterpiece. my favorite pj album. incredible. 11/10

____________________________________________________________________________

binaural (2000) very spacey pj album. a little incoherent...their weakest yet 6/10
riot act (2002) better than mentioned above. great rock album 7/10.
s/t (2006) the long awaited 8th pj album. a strong return. angry, dark and heavy. 8/10

____________________________________________________________________________

lost dogs (2003) a compilation of unreleashed b-sides. not an official album, but still awesome. 9/10.

:D
Title: Re: pearl jam
Post by: Jacob on Oct 08, 2007, 11:38 PM
for me they kinda go down in rating from the first to the last album. maybe one or two albums in between would get the same score, but generally that's how I see them.

the only PJ album I haven't really fallen in love with is their latest though. it's just not the same anymore.

Pearl Jam are great. I saw them twice in a year...last time was in June. Fucking brilliant. Eddie is great! He speaks portuguese with the crowd, smokes, he is drinking wine, he is jumping...etc

Positive energy. Everyone leaves the place with a big big smile! It´s great!

PEARL JAM ANNOUNCES THE REISSUE OF BAND'S DEBUT ALBUM, TEN
12.10.08

PEARL JAM ANNOUNCES THE REISSUE OF BAND'S DEBUT ALBUM, TEN:
FOUR SPECIAL EDITION PACKAGES IN STORES MARCH 24, 2009
TEN CLUB PRE-SALE OF SUPER DELUXE BOX SET BEGINS NOW

Album extras include:
Remaster of original Ten album + remix by producer Brendan O'Brien •
DVD of previously unreleased 1992 Pearl Jam MTV Unplugged performance with 5.1 surround sound audio remix • LP of the band's 1992 "Drop in the Park" concert • Replica of Pearl Jam three-song demo cassette with Eddie Vedder's original vocal dubs • Recreation of Eddie Vedder composition notebook • Never before seen memorabilia • Bonus tracks and more.

Ten, the debut album that sold 12 million copies and introduced the world to Pearl Jam in 1991, will be reissued in four (4) new and expanded editions. Pre-orders of the Super Deluxe Edition begin today, through the Ten Club at PearlJam.com. All four editions will be available for purchase on March 24, 2009. The reissue of Ten serves as the launch of a planned two-year catalogue re-release campaign leading up to the band's 20th anniversary in 2011.

Each Ten package will include two versions of the album: the remastered version of the original album PLUS an accompanying remixed version done by the band's long-time producer, Brendan O'Brien (Bruce Springsteen, AC/DC, Audioslave). Details on specific extras for each of the four packages are listed below.

"The band loved the original mix of Ten, but were also interested in what it would sound like if I were to deconstruct and remix it," says producer Brendan O'Brien. "The original Ten sound is what millions of people bought, dug and loved, so I was initially hesitant to mess around with that. After years of persistent nudging from the band, I was able to wrap my head around the idea of offering it as a companion piece to the original – giving a fresh take on it, a more direct sound."

TEN RE-DESIGN
Pearl Jam bassist Jeff Ament, who served as the art director for the original Ten packaging, reprised his role for the reissues collaborating with designer, Andy Fischer, of Cameron Crowe's Vinyl Films (Into the Wild soundtrack LP, Vanilla Sky soundtrack LP, Harold and Maude anniversary edition soundtrack LP).

"The goal was to assemble the ultimate fan-piece," explains Fischer. "Something Pearl Jam lovers could pore over as they experience an indelible record all over again, in an entirely new way."

"The original concept was about really being together as a group and entering into the world of music as a true band...a sort of all-for-one deal," says Jeff Ament. "There were some elements of the original Ten artwork that didn't turn out the way we had hoped, due to time constraints. With this reissue, we've been able to take our time and invest resources into making the design the way we had originally intended."

REPLICA OF PEARL JAM 3-SONG DEMO CASSETTE IN SUPER DELUXE EDITION
In the process of digging through his archives for this project, Ament came across an old cassette marked "Momma-Son" – the fabled original Pearl Jam demo tape featuring the first recorded versions of "Alive," "Once" and "Footsteps." Ament and guitarists Stone Gossard and Mike McCready had recorded instrumental tracks of these songs to help solicit a singer for their newly formed band. Mutual friend - and then Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer - Jack Irons suggested they send the tape down to San Diego surfer and little-known singer Eddie Vedder.

Completely inspired by what he heard from these musicians that he then only knew by name, Vedder quickly wrote lyrics, put these vocals to the music tracks and shipped the tape back to Seattle. Upon hearing how Vedder had transformed the songs, Ament, Gossard and McCready asked him to come up to Seattle so they could meet and have an official "tryout" together. Shortly thereafter, Pearl Jam was born. (A replica of the "Momma-Son" cassette will be included in the Super Deluxe Edition of Ten.)

Jeff Ament describes the experience of re-visiting that tape with singer Eddie Vedder:
"I think the first time that Ed or I had opened any of those boxes was a few weeks ago. I knew that the original 'Momma-Son' cassette was somewhere, but I hadn't listened to it in 17, 18, 19 years. It was cool to sit down and play it for the first time with Ed and see his reaction. And to find that 90% of it stayed exactly the same as what ended up on the record. A lot of elements were identical. There was some energy flying around at that point even from 1,300 miles away from Seattle to San Diego."

Sweet! 1 more week.

I'm a little worried about the short length of the album, though. Is that something that's noticeable?
Title: Re: Pearl Jam
Post by: Jacob on Sep 13, 2009, 04:09 PM
well, all I can say is that it's a pretty straight-forward album. parts are kinda inspired by Eddie's solo work for Into The Wild. the rest is probably some of the most pure rock music they've created so far.
Title: Re: Pearl Jam
Post by: mr.sinister on Sep 13, 2009, 04:35 PM
Its more of "pop" oriented album, so I think we can blame the short album length on that. It shouldn't be bad though, Pearl Jam always deliver good music.

I haven't had that much time to listen to it - once I started I immediately went back to Lost Dogs and the self-titled, which I've really fallen in love with lately. but so far I really like Backspacer. it's probably their most straight forward and energetic album since VS.

Really enjoying the album atm BUT I have to say I prefered the demo version of 'Speed of Sound' and that 'Just Breathe' sounds like 'Tuolumne' from the 'Into the Wild' OST, still a great song though.

Hopefully we'll get some decent european tour dates soon!!

Title: Re: Pearl Jam
Post by: Jacob on Sep 26, 2009, 03:19 PM
actually it's really hard for me to rank their albums because I love all of them (well, except for Riot Act which I stil like a lot, but will probably always be my least favorite). but Ten got me into them and will always be number one. and I listened a lot to No Code during a specific time of my life and it's a very nostalgic album for me. and like I said, lately I've really fallen in love with the self-titled. but yeah, Vs and Vitalogy are both incredibly awesome too.
Title: Re: Pearl Jam
Post by: theis on Sep 26, 2009, 07:20 PM

Binaural and Riot Act are the only PJ albums where I don't remember how the songs sound like just by looking at the titles. I need to give them a better chance. Still quality albums though.
Title: Re: Pearl Jam
Post by: Jacob on Sep 27, 2009, 08:39 PM
same here. Binaural is actually really really good though. and it was during the tour for that album I saw them live, so it's a bit special for that reason too. it's just... I dunno, kinda different from their other stuff. I think it has a lot to do with the production actually. something doesn't sound 100% to me.

fucking hell, seems like they're skipping Sweden again.

I might actually go abroad to see them this summer if that's what it takes.

I hate you.

while I've seen them live before, I really feel I need one more show to make up for Roskilde. the Stockholm show was great, almost magical. but I still remember more from Roskilde and I just can't have that with one of my favorite bands.

Saw them in Dublin in 2006, best gig ive been too I also got a b-side in the show which had never been played before (can you guess what it is?).  So the Dublin 06 show was a must have for bootlegers!

I think it's awesome that they're finally willing to market the band a bit more. they'll always have enough artistic credibility and integrity to never "sell out", and them spreading their music even more now can only mean more touring, more shows outside the US and hopefully more albums in the future.

I watched the Pearl Jam Twenty documentary last night and it was fantastic.

Highly recommended for fans of PJ, Grunge and just rockumentaries in general. It's basically a love letter to the 90's Seattle music scene.

just watched it and I'm almost speechless. didn't think I could love this band more, but I certainly do now. very honest and revealing documentary. truly showed that they're one of the biggest bands ever, in several ways.

"Betterman" towards the end brought a tear to my eye.

Oh, so you'd rather hear more Lady Gaga then, would you - that would make the Target ad much more enjoyable.
Any time real organic music gets exposure, it's a victory.

fucking shit fuck. by coincidence I noticed Pearl Jam are playing in Sweden this summer. first time they come here in 12 years (saw them last time fortunately). I immediately checked for tickets, but 8 hours after release, they're sold out. what the fuck? sure, they're a legendary band that don't tour a lot but I never realized they've become THAT huge.

I think folks are realising that if they have to wait another 10 years for a show, it might not happen. That's my theory anyway on why they're selling so fast everywhere.

yeah, I guess that's true. anyway, my dad managed to get two tickets so it seems like I'm going after all. yay for me!
