It's the reason I want a 360. I don't plan on stealing a computer from fucking NASA to run it, so it'll have to be console version.

Ya, its awesome......

So far I think I like Morrowind better, Oblivion seems a bit dumbed down for consoles.... but its awesome nonetheless. I'm only just getting into it too, so my opinion may change.

finally got my hands on it. I dunno, I kinda remember already why I got sick of Morrowind... at first the feeling of freedom is awesome but it gets a bit overwhelming. it's really fucking pretty though.

I got bored with it. I prefer Morrowind. they didn't do one thing better in this game... well except for one thing: you can gain more levels than before.

I spent a lot of time just modding Morrowind to get it looking as great as I could. The fact this game looks so stunning is a big reason for me to get it. When I get a 360 this'll be the first game I grab for it.

Well, I got a 360 and this was indeed the first game I got for it. This was maybe a week ago.

I reinstalled Morrowind about 20 mins ago. A much, much better game. Bethesda really sold out to the console crowd, huh? I mean it looks GREAT. But it's just so gay. They hold your hand all the way through. And also, as you progress in levels so does everyone else, including your enemies.

Morrowind is just better in many ways. So much more to do, more freedom and more places to explore.
Title: Re: The Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion
Post by: Nailec on Jul 16, 2006, 11:09 PM
morrowind was pretty different.

what i didn't like in morrwind was the whole, quite boring landscape that was way to dark und same enemies over and over again.

and if you spent to much time in developing your character, the whole game became a joke, because the enemies didn't level with you.

but in oblivion its gay that some bear or so can hurt you even if your in high levels.

and i don`t get y people spent their money in an xbox while you can get some very nice pc für 500 bucks with oblivion running perfectly and having like hundred of games, most of them better than any console game...

Title: Re: The Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion
Post by: ToneDef on Jul 18, 2006, 06:07 AM
Not really, I just use bad fucking English.

I got a 360 for other console exclusive games and because it's always nice to be able to sit on my bed to play games rather than at a desk.

I have Morrowind on both Xbox and PC for these reasons. Xbox version I can just play in comfort. PC version I can mod and tweak the fuck out of it.

Anyway, I think it's good that enemies don't level with you in Morrowind. It's the whole point. If you wanna do well then take some time out, train your ass of and then go destroy some bitches. If everyone levels with you then what's the point in leveling up? Also, If you're primarily a mage character or have certain non combat related skills as your main ones then when you get to say level 5 you're fucked, because all the enemies are gonna be badasses but all you can do is make better potions or whatever.

I disagree about the Morrowind landscape. It was smaller than Oblivions but felt bigger. Oblivion is just green hills everywhere. It feels like a cartoon. Morrowind had a feeling of mystery to it. The whole game just felt so free and dark.

Oblivion is just a bad game by comparison. It holds your hand too much. It's more like KOTOR than an elder scrolls game.

Oblivion was made for console gamers.. The 'casual gamer' market. Bethesda lost a lot of hardcore fans over that game but gained a lot of new casual ones. They sold out. Apparently it was a success too, so you can bet the next chapter will suck just as much.

Yeah I agree ToneDef.

I got a leveling mod for Oblivion the other day and started again which has been way better.

Getting to level 30ish and finding out every two-bit bandit had just as good, if not better, armour than me was pissing me off.

They should be cannon fodder damn it.
Title: Re: The Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion
Post by: ToneDef on Jul 18, 2006, 06:31 AM
Yeah man. I mean don't get me wrong, if I'd never played an Elder Scrolls game before it then I probably would have loved it. But there are just too many things I know they shouldn't have added/taken away.

And yeah. Spending months playing just to be able to walk into a town and destroy any guards who have the audacity to try and arrest you for stealing is what it's all about man.
Title: Re: The Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion
Post by: fireflyry on Jul 18, 2006, 06:42 AM
Damn straight.

That'll teach em.

I played Morrowind years ago but I guess my memory is crap especially since I tend to game while heavily stoned.Oblivions all good but I don't like the quests as much and I think the major difference for me is the fact the landscape in Morrowind had a lot more diversity hence felt WAY bigger in scope regardless of actual landmass comparisons.

The cities in Oblivion look great but the landscape outside the cities is all the same, lots of grass and trees.

I want a sand swept desert damn it.
Title: Re: The Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion
Post by: ToneDef on Jul 18, 2006, 06:47 AM
Yeah man. One minute you could discover a lake out of nowhere and the next you could be walking through some futuristic looking ruins. It's hard to put my finger on but there was just something very 'fantasy' about the whole thing. Can't put it in words really. I never played it high but now I got it reinstalled I'll blatently be trying that.

damn, man. you summed it up real good there. I agree on every point, those were just the reasons why I didn't like Oblivion nearly as much as Morrowind.

here's a suggestion btw... if you're into the whole RPG thing, check out Neverwinter Nights. it's still being played online by many and it's very mod-able. the whole point of the game is to create your own mods and play them with other people online. the sequel is coming later this year and I'm pretty sure it will be the most kickass RPG to date.
Title: Re: The Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion
Post by: Nailec on Jul 19, 2006, 12:25 AM
neverwinter nights is also about some very nice persistent worlds where you can roleplay oer pvp with many others not following a quest or something like that.
it is like mmorpg with real role play gaming and less players.
like ultima online (which i play too), everquest, lineage etc

nice game indeed but soloplayer was i somehow lame to me in comparison to baldurs gate 2 that i played 5 times. 2 times with parties and 3 times with one character only

SO I bought Oblivion for my 360 a week ago since I finally have the time for such a massive game as this one. BTW did you know that unless you have a super computer, the 360 version is far more stable than the PC version?

Anyway, the game is indeed insane. I've spend 20 hours just doing 2 story-quests. I filled the time with discovering the cities, the forests, everything. Anyone knows whats the cheapest way to get a house, and where? And dont try to get me in that super cheap ghost-house.
Title: Re: The Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion

the cheapest house is probably in the city waterfront in the imperial city. You can get a cheap house in bravil too.

Then I found the thieves pirates cave (you have to download it)... now thats my home. With my own pirate crew, arrrrr errrr matey.

Just brought myself to put it in today. I've been afraid to.

I already have 7 hours on it...in one day. How sad. I won't stop playing for the next week or so.

I'm almost done with the arena and the only quest I've done is that easy one on the boat that happens when you purchase a bed.

Level 3.

Post by: ToneDef on May 18, 2007, 06:02 AM
Yeah man, I'm just being a twat. It's a fine game to some people, maybe even a fine RPG...

But Bethesda fucked up. How can you follow up a game like Morrowind with fucking Oblivion? The potential was there. I creamed my pants over the first screens when they were released. But they fucked it up. They aimed the game at console gamers, and to be honest the majority of 360 owners don't know what the fuck a fantasy RPG is. They're too busy blowing shit up on Gears. They sold out big time.

When I bought my 360 I ordered Oblivion with it. I couldn't wait to play that shit. For a few days it amazed me. But then I realised it didn't even have a fraction of the depth or fantasy feel that Morrowind had. To me that's a huge fuck up on their part and a punch in the face of long time fans. They've fucked over their core fans to make way for new, more casual ones. A great business decision maybe, but just a douche way to go about it I guess.

That's just what I think though. I can understand why others would enjoy the game.

I rrreeeeaaaaaally don't like that things level with you. And ToneDef is right, it lost alot of the fantasy feel.

I miss my badass looking Balmora (I think that's what the town was called) Guard armor.

I didn't play Morrowind alot since, when I bought it, I was not into RPGs AT ALL. But damn, that game was cool.

i should hav never bought this game.

all the time youre doing the same shit and it doenst matter which weapon u chose or which spell. because everyone is as strong as you. everytime.

the main quest: some evil demon is threatining the world. woah

sidequests: go to a, do x, return to b. profit.

after 5 hours i didnt have any more fun. each single oblivion portal after the second just pissed me off because it was all the fucking same. i was archmage, i was the grey wolf, master of the arena and it would have been no problem to be the master of the other guilds too.

this game has great possibilities for mods and should have a multiplayer mode. but the single player campagn didnt give me anything.
