alright. i figured i'd start another rhcp thread because their new single Dani California is now available to hear at their myspace. http://www.myspace.com/redhotchilipeppers
i'm definitely surprised because this song is way better than i expected. when i heard the little snippet i figured it was going to sound like another By The Way-ish mellow song. but it doesn't sound like it at all really. im digging it.
alright. im expecting an onslaught full of responses
yeah dani california is okay for a first single. but i hope john doesn't have this kind of solo in every song. anthony's voice is good this way. it has some bssm touch.
Good thread.
Yeah, Dani California is really good. The chorus in the song is great.
I cant wait for the new album.
ohh i know u uploaded the song but i lost the link, so if u can post it again would be great :)
huge fan of the chili peppers, i first got into them about 10 years ago.
i have them to thank for every band i get into these days, before i found the chilis i was your average idiot who listens to whats hot on the radio.
chili peppers never never fail to deliver awesome tunes. i'm buying this album for sure.
The video for Dani California is on youtube:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=Pfkl58U4gbs&search=Dani%20California (http://youtube.com/watch?v=Pfkl58U4gbs&search=Dani%20California)
Funny shit.
Blood Sugar Sex Magic is in my Top 10 albums of all time.
Not a big fan of their recent stuff as it seems more melodic and radio orientated than funky but I was a huge fan up until Californacation.
I don't know, I class Californication as one of their better works! It's By The Way that's melodic and radio orientated, and overall pretty average! But nothing beats Blood Sugar Sex Magik! And thankfully the new song sounds closer to that style!
They're great live too, I saw them back in 2003 in Glasgow with Foo Fighters and Queens Of The Stone Age, that was one of the best shows I've ever been to! They also played here in Edinburgh in 2004, that show probably wasnt as great as the other one, but hell they still kicked ass! Haha, John got out his mobile phone and started speaking to someone on stage. Turns out it was some kid who was ill, and John got the whole crowd (30,000 or something) to yell 'We love you Johnny', which was pretty cool! Hell they probably did that at every show on that tour but ah well, just thought I'd mention it. :)
I should have said up to and including as I too like Californication but it seems that was also the beggining of a less aggressive and funky sound.Lot's of mellowness on that album.
It's not a criticism either as I still like their new material but I'm just not sure if I'd buy it.Compare Mothers Milk and their latest work and it's like listening to two different bands and I'm just a fan of their older work....so far...
Ah right that's cool! And yeah, I agree with you. I guess you could say there is alot of mellowness on Californication, the singles mostly and songs like Porcelain and that, but it's well balanced with more aggressive stuff, such as Parallel Universe and Around The World.
And yeah, they are a completely different band now compared to their 80s/early 90s. The new stuff (well I count By The Way as new stuff), albeit more experimental, is alot more snooze-inducing, but yeah, there's still some cool songs. Let's hope that the new album, they surprise us with some good ol' funk! :)

Yeah cheers dude! ;D
the zypher song video is on my top three fav videos of all time. im not sure whose concept or direction was done by, but i love that song and the video so much.
I would recommend any Chilli fan to read Anthony Keidis 'Scar Tissue'
Amazing, amazing read...John is the ultimate fuck up junkie, Flea is the coolest (esp. when he fell asleep riding a bike!!!!)
Anthony comes across as a bit of a dick...but he is really honest in the book
anthony is a scorpio.. they are all dicks.

I only have Californication and By the Way. and it's probably the only RHCP albums I can actually enjoy listening too.
I really love the new single Dani California, a great simple chorus. I don't mind the solo at the end, but I prefer the ones from Parrallel Universe, Purple Stain and Minor Thing (if you can call it solos)
John is up there as one of the greatest guitarists ever.
if you look at how they 'flopped' after One Hot Minute. they pretty much broke up and John injected so much talent back into the band. John and Flea are the best together.
A lot of his shit is so basic, but so imaginative
this is one band i can honestly say i hate
the only good stuff is "One Hot Minute" just because it has Dave Navarro playing guitar and Aimee Echo did backup on a track or two
again i say: every head is a world.
i liked the new song. thx dudes ;D

Blood Sugar Sex Magik and One Hot Minute kick everyone and their mothers' asses... After that, it's over...
Fuck. RHCP OWNS! I can't see why no one would like them, but like deftoneskid said...everyone got their own opinion and shit.
The new song is awesome, I already got tired of listening to it for now though.
i might end up somewhere in mexico

right on, man. he plays with soul. especially in his older stuff. like Mother's Milk and BSSM. i definitely dig his sound. and im not leaving out Hillel for inspiring him. the solo in I Could Of Lied is great stuff
even though i am a big john frusciante fan, im not one to put down One Hot Minute. Dave Navarro really did a good job on that record. i found a certain vibe in that album that i totally was into. especially in Transcending. one of my all time favorite Red Hot Chili Peppers songs

soul to squeeze, one of my favourites.

imo, By The Way is one their best albums.
And yeah, John Frusciante is the fucking man. I love his solo stuff.
let me rate the Chili albums (out of pure boredom):
1. Californication
2. Mother's Milk
3. Blood Sugar Sex Magik
4. By the Way
5. The Uplift Mofo Party
6. One hot minute
7. Freaky Styley
8. Red Hot Chili Peppers
btw, Live in Hyde Park is one of the best live albums ever.

what a show.
I'm sure The Mars Volta supported the Chili's before here in UK a few years back when they were in the arenas. I was pissed that I missed that show, that's for sure!
Just caught the new song on TV.
It's got a funny video and while the guitar work at the end is slamming it sounds, only in my opinion, like really generic rock/pop to me.
Where's the funk Flea?

its a little to poppy for me in parts. i take back what i said about not liking it at all, because there are a few tracks that i totally get into, like Dosed, i love how there are so many guitars all weaving together, its beautiful. and Minor Thing, the feel of that song is great.
i dont think its a bad album, just not the chilis sound i like most.
i cudnt pick a favourite album... itd be down to either BSSM or MM, altho it was cool when cali came out because i was so excited that john was back in the band, it was magic.
i also have heard they will be touring with the mars volta, quite a big bunch of shows in the US.
and something about a tour with Kanye West :-[
and for those in aus and Nz, i read somewhere they are planning a few dates down here late 2006 ;D

They all just have that unique thing about them: Flea has all that funky stuff, John's already been dicussed, Anthony has those unique vocals, and Chad can keep a cool beat.
I went to a drum clinic/conference that Chad was at in 97/98 and he is one amazing drummer.
It's cool when they come to New Zealand too as Anthony (and Flea I think) own land here so they usally stay awhile and surf at one of the local beachs (where Eddie Vedder almost drowned once).
Hope they come back soon.

They were on the Jonathan Ross show last night, played Dani California and Give It Away, great performance I thought! Haha, felt sorry for them though, and Carmen Electra and Joan Collins, they were cooped up in the back room with johnny vegas! ;D What a nut that man is!
I can't say that in these days I would find myself listening to a full RHCP album the whole way through, but the songs I did hear off that last album were pretty enjoyable and I'm sure the new album will have some more good catchy songs that will get infinite radio play.
I used to love Californication back in the day. And Frusciante's solo stuff is pretty good.

oh. i'm really disappointed with this album. it soooo boring. they have no new ideas. john's solos sound all the same. it sounds like a greatest hits album. i was a die hard fan of them until californication. okay by the way was something new (the pop music influence). but this? no. i won't buy it. it's sad ...

I bought Stadium Arcadium today, listened to it and I must say; this is by far my favorite Chili Peppers album. I know that's a huge thing to say since they've really made some awesome albums, but there's just something about this one.
The emotions on it is just incredible and the lyrics make my heart feel all warm. I love the solos and the bass work and I love the variety of songs on it. The funky songs are as funky as funky gets and same goes for the straight "rock n roll" songs on it.
This album just makes me smile and all I can say is - buy it!!
It isnt my favourite album, but it is pretty good despite some of the reviews I've heard of it! There's alot of variation, some tunes have got the good ol' funkness of Blood Sugar, and some could fit on By The Way, but overall I'd say it's alot more satisfying than BTW! I'm especially liking the first half of Jupiter CD.
'Storm in a Teacup' is so awesome!
shit, it doesnt come out here until the 15th. ill be in there first thing!
Readymade is my favorite track so far.
after one week of listening to it, I just don't give a fuck about the album. still enjoyable, but nothing extraordinary.

Ah well, each to their own!
I'm quite partial to the title track, "Especially In Michigan", "Torture Me" and "Storm In A Teacup"
Stadium Arcadium is a great album. very good songs on there. though i'm more excited about John's original songs. hopefully that asshole releases a new solo album. he's just too good.

- CHILI PEPPER HURT BY CAVE'S OPINION
RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS bassist FLEA was devastated to read a bad review of the band's latest album STADIUM ARCADIUM - because he discovered his idol NICK CAVE dislikes the group's music. The guitarist, real name MICHAEL BALZARY, was reading British newspaper The Guardian's review of the disc, which included the anecdote, "Two years ago, when asked about current music, Nick Cave focused his ire on one band in particular. 'I'm forever near a stereo saying, "What the f**k is this garbage?"' he fumed. 'And the answer is always the Red Hot Chili Peppers.'" Writing on the band's official website, Flea says: "There was one review by an English newspaper where the guy really hated us and it was full of insults and descriptions about how terrible and worthless we are and how inane our music is. "The guy mentioned that Nick Cave really thought we were a s**tty band and printed a quote that Nick Cave had said in that regard. For a second that hurt my feelings because I love Nick Cave. I have all of his records. "I don't care if Nick Cave hates my band because his music means everything to me because he is one of my favourite songwriters and singers and musicians of all time and I love all the incarnations of the BAD SEEDS. "But it only hurt my feelings for a second because my love is bigger than all that s**t and if he thinks my band is lame that's OK."
hahahaha awwww.
im not sure about them any more. i bought 'Stadium Arcadium' and listened to it once, but havent gone back to it at all! i just dont feel the love for it that i felt and still feel for 'Blood sugar..' and 'Californication'
listening to BSSM for the first time in a long, long time.
it's a great album. it really is. i love the weird guitar lines and the funkalicious bass. anthony kiedis has never been a great vocalist and he's definitely the weakest link of the Chili Peppers, but he fits just perfect on this album.
their last truly great album.
I've never really got on this boat. I mean, i appreciate funky music a lot, but a lot of their stuff kinda sounds the same to me.... anyone know what i mean ?
Indeed, especially post-Californication they have lost much of their 'edge'. Though you could say they abandoned their underground status for the mainstream with Blood Sugar... (which is a great, twisted album) - Stadium Arcadium was very bland. I would still pick them over a lot of over stuff though...
Chili peppers are great, but I must admit I like them most with John Frusciante.
Every album with John is great.
I love RHCP. Remember that little bitch fight they got with Mr. Bungle back in the day? I think Red Hot Chili Peppers has a more accessible sound but Mr. Bungle has the real talent. IMO Trevor Dunn > Flea.
RHCP, even though I love them, have gotten famous by writing the same song over and over again I totally agree with you NiChe
yeah don't get me wrong i consider myself a fan of RHCP, but how many songs in the last 3 albums find words that rhyme with states. at times i just find it annoying.
RHCP are a GREAT GREAT band!
Indeed, they just lost a lot of their edginess and grit I guess. No doubt though they have had a huge influence on music since the late 80s I'd say...
I liked them at the time they released Californication, which I loved until it exploded on the charts and every fucking one at my school became a RHCP fan. got sick of them really quick and since then they've just become another bland rock band writing songs for the mainstream while kissing MTV's ass.
I'm not saying a band has to be underground for me to love them. usually I'm just happy when a band I like releases a successful album. but the whole RHCP thing was just ridiculous.
Yeah definately. I enjoyed the period in early 99 before Californication mushroomed, just when they were promoting Scar Tissue, I seem to remember? By The Way was actually quite an enjoyable album - some of the album tracks were a bit more indie-esque than what they'd done before. But on the whole you're right they've blanded-out and not done much different or challenging....
*definitely - I always spell that wrong....
Yeah those were good times.. I started disliking the peppers after I saw them on Pinkpop, it was so damn boring, nothing special(they were even headliner and it seemd thay the organisation paid more then a million euro's to have them).
I think theire all great musicians(exept for Antony) but they don't have the power to bring something original anymore.
I agree with you deftoneskoen. i was totally disenchanted when i went to see them and it was in a huge stadium, waste of time.
i really enjoyed them live, i thought they were excellent

the music is good, but i cant listen to recent releases. the music is too compressed and the vocals have like a static to them, like when you turn a stereo up too loud. i've been a fan for a looooooooong time (mothers milk btw) and like everything they do, but the way the new stuff is produced makes it almost unlistenable. i really do get eatr fatigue from it.

Really huh? When I got Stadium Arcadium some of the songs sounded too compressed especially Dani California.

that's the thing with all music. they used to record on tape so it had a different feel to it as compared to the digitally recorded stuff now. digitally recorded stuff sounds way too clean and flawless, which sucks...
if you try recording yourself, try it on tape heads and then on logic or something via a good soundboard... you'll notice the difference...
it's like the difference between frusciante's old stuff and new stuff (solo recordings) that's when you see the difference clear as day... imagine the beatles recording on protools or something, they'd loose their charm completely.
No one has commented on their return yet, they released two albums last year. The Red Hot Chili Peppers have released their second album for 2022, titled "Return of the Dream Canteen," following April's release of "Unlimited Love," creating a 1-2 punch.
