Title: Chevelle
Post by: lostpilot on Apr 22, 2006, 09:31 AM
Hey, what do you think about this band?
I really like the whole 'This type of thinking could do us in'. Great band, isn`t it?
Also, awesome live.  ::)

im not listening to chevelle too often anymore, but that doesnt say anything. they're cool guys and release good music, even though i liked wonder what's next and point #1 more than this type of... i was kind of disappointed when it came out to be honest. it's good music, but i expected "more" after WWN.

they will probably never tour europe again, and i probably won't bother anyways because i've seem them live around the time when i was the most into their music - 2003 in support of their album WWN.

so its ok.

Their music is ok, I like a few songs, but...
Send the pain below, it's the same riff of BQ&D...  >:( It's similar... I think it's almost the same!
Some people say that they're like deftones... and it's impossible!... So...

That's so true. That song is nowhere near as good as BQAD though!

I like Chevelle but I haven't actually listened to them in a while, I think you need to be in the right kind of mood.

From Wonder What's Next I like Family System, The Red, Closure and Comfortable Liar, and on This Type Of Thinking Could Do Us In: Breach Birth, Vitamin R, Panic Prone and Emotional Drought are really good. I haven't heard much from Point #1 though, I need to listen to that.

I got Point #1 shortly after it came out and loved it. I remember that video they had out at the time for 'Mia' - it looked like a TOOL video or something like that. I had such high hopes for them, and I'll admit... when "Wonder What's Next" came out, I thought it was amazing. Now, I can't stand them at all. I dunno what it is about their music, but it seems to have gotten old fast. I met them when they were touring in support of Point #1, and they were such nice guys. Really 'normal' people. And then when they were touring for WWN, I got to meet them again. And it was like meeting 3 totally different guys. Well, not so much the bass player Joe. He was still pretty cool. But the other dudes seemed more interested in signing girls chests and getting to the nearest bar. Seems like fame got the best of them. I think their music blows now. Sorry!

Indeed they are.   The Vena Sera we are talking about is the leaked new CD.  If you just wanna download a few of their songs to try them out... I suggest :   Comfortable Liar, Don't Fake This,  Get Some, Panic Prone, Wonder What's Next and  An Evening With El Diablo..... just to name a few.    I'd say that the first 4 are my favorites!   Hope you like them....   =o)

I've heard of Chevelle for a long time now, but never have I heard any of their songs, nor have I really cared. But now, finally, I noticed the new album in the Download and  Request thread and thought to myself; well, what the hell, I might as well just give it a try.

So, I did give it a try, and I gotta say, it's pretty good, I enjoy it a lot.

they have a unique vocalist who sounds like maynard from tool sometimes. but yeah, im also excited for their new album vena sera... this is definitely some of the better radio rock on the airwaves.. definitely highly recommended to the people on this forum. to put it bluntly i guess, if you loved adrenaline you'd find love for this bands sound as well.

I used to see Chevelle way back in little bars around the Point #1 days. I was hoping they would evolve like Tool and write really long songs. I'm from Chicago and it was dissapointing to see them go more in a mainstream direction. The new album is better than the last though. Cool guys too if you ever get the chance to meet them.

Their hair isn't like that now.... and if you bash a band simply because of their hair..  I would suggest you are the weak one..    Their music isn't much different from Vena Sera than it was on Wonder What's Next, so I would hardly call them sellouts.

hey, they still make halfway decent tunes, it's just embarrassing that they all of a sudden look emo. like papa roach. hah wow... (only papa roach never made a decent song ever). i'm certainly not gonna watch them pull something this hilarious & sit by & not say anthing. shamefull

nice scarf by the way

and nice tight low cut girls pants

Gimme a break.   Embarrassing?   LOL!  Do you have to go out in public with Pete?  I would say it's doubtful.  So why so embarrassing?!?   If the music is still good... why do you give a fuck what they look like?  LAMEZOR!

Title: Re: Chevelle
Post by: Hidalgo on Jun 04, 2007, 08:08 PM
because they just now starded dressin like that, & it just has FRAUD written all over it. so now you're emo huh? bahahah surrrrrrrrre

hey guys, see look at us we really are emo, see the girl's pants, eyeliner & haircuts? are we cool now?

they knew nu-metal was dying, so instead of being themselves & lookin the same as always, the jumped on the bandwagon, like a bunch of clowns. just makes me lose respect for them. be yourselves guys

imagine if deftones went with the emo look out of nowhere, how retarded would that be. i'd still listen to them, but you better believe i'd call them out on it & make fun of them for tryin to fit the latest trend. would never happen though, they won't sell themselves out like clowns to fit a trend

do you have an emo haircut or something? is that why you're defending this pathetic attempt to stay relevent by chevelle?

Late (too late, to be honest) and maybe you already have this, but anyway, if don't (or anyone), here it is!
In Debt to Earth http://rapidshare.com/files/92759265/12_-_Chevelle_-_In_Debt_to_Earth.mp3 (http://rapidshare.com/files/92759265/12_-_Chevelle_-_In_Debt_to_Earth.mp3)
And here are others (All of them are bonus tracks):
Sleep Walking Elite http://rapidshare.com/files/92759263/12_-_Chevelle_-_Sleep_Walking_Elite.mp3 (http://rapidshare.com/files/92759263/12_-_Chevelle_-_Sleep_Walking_Elite.mp3)
Delivery http://rapidshare.com/files/92760254/13_-_Chevelle_-_Delivery.mp3 (http://rapidshare.com/files/92760254/13_-_Chevelle_-_Delivery.mp3)

and yeah.. i really LOVE them, doesn't matter they seem EMO (as Hidalgo thinks and for me they don't seem EMO...)....
Point #1 it's a very good one, Wonder What's New, Awesome (I noticed them by The Red), This Type... , very good, not in the level of WWN, and it grew old faster...., Vena Sera, it blowss my MIND!, especially Brainiac, Saferwaters, Streetjacket Fashion, The Fad, Humanoid, I Get It, All the f***ng album! I own this album btw  ;) and i'm saving for getting the previous ones...

PS: I have some demos and rarities, if you want, i can upload them.... just let me know...
PS2: Probably i'm the 2nd Chevelle fan here  ::)

Would it be to much to request the song "Until You're Reformed" in .mp3?
I recently listened to This Type Of Thinking (Could Do Us In) again for the first time in over a year or so, and am kinda getting into this band again. Twas very cool of defTHE1s (kool name btw) to upload all the stuff that you did, I just hope it wouldn't be too greedy of me to ask for one more song?

Don't know a damn thing about it, except for  that it was apparently recorded in a basement on a tape recorder, in 1998.  There's not much info on the net about it.  One would think it was pretty self-explanatory tho, a demo recorded on tape in someone's basement... You can download the full thing here: http://gucciclan.blogspot.com/2007_07_01_archive.html (http://gucciclan.blogspot.com/2007_07_01_archive.html)

I found this song about 8 years ago when the days of free Napster were brand new.

I typed in Chevelle and it came up.

Says that Tool, Staind, Korn, and Chevelle all did it.

I personaly don't believe its Chevelle, but have always wanted to know who made this song.

Any ideas?

Thats what a lot of bands-fans do when they want to promote music.  They put it in a file sharing program under big band names, or bands they think fans would have similar taste with in order to get the music out.  Now it really doesn't do any good if you can't somehow find out who sings it.  So ill just guess someone came across it and had no idea who sang it and just started listing off bands maybe?

Thats actually how I heard the Trust Company song "hover" for the first time.  I was looking for deftones songs when I first discovered them and it said " Deftones, Tool, and Glassjaw " and I got some version of hover with a piano and different lyrics than what was released *shrugs*

I love Chevelle!!!!!!! Great band!!!!
I'll admit - they're not the most original, groundbreaking, technically gifted band, diverse band around but I love the way you can just put in any Chevelle album and know that you're going to get your fix of their trademark catchy riffs, aggression, energy and great vocals. It's great music to get pumped up to.
Plus after Chino, Pete has the best scream going.
Trying to think of which song it is, but I think it's one off 'Wonder What's Next' - his scream matches Chino's at the end of 'Royal' in terms of duration (about 10 seconds) and intensity.
Now that's impressive!
It's very hard for me to choose a favourite Chevelle album - at the moment it's probably between 'Wonder What's Next' and 'Vena Sera'
'Sci-Fi Crimes' was a great album - the only thing I missed from previous albums was no screaming.
I'm looking forward to the next album due out some time this year. All I've heard so far is that it will either be a fully accoustic album or one that harks back to the heavier sounds of 'Wonder What's Next'.
I would love it if they did the latter and then followed it up with an album of the same songs, just accoustic.
Now that would be cool!!!!!!!!  8)

Funny how a lot of people have commented that Pete sounds a lot like Maynard.
I'm guilty of the same thought when I first discovered this band but the other day I was listening to some Tool,APC and Chevelle songs back to back and have realised that they are actually very different - funny how we always see so many similarities at first.
I had the same things with Deftones - the first Tones song I heard was ' My Own Summer' and I thought Chino sounded a lot like Billy Corgan (whose voice I actually liked up until '95, after which I don't know what he did but it became painful to listen to). Obviously upon further listenings I noticed that there was obviously a slight influence but many differences.
The more I've listened to Deftones, the more I've appreciated the uniqueness of Chino's vocals.

Hey, what do you think about this band?
I really like the whole 'This type of thinking could do us in'. Great band, isn`t it?
Also, awesome live.  ::)

music taste can change drastically in five years, I suppose.
I have not listened for them for quite a while, plus I am unable to listen to this kind of music anymore.
No nostalgia even.. lol.

The funniest part is that you said they'd be great live, telling from videos ^_^

I know how you feel pinkmaggit. Loved their first two albums, but from then on it went downhill for me.  But I could say the same for anything that was released by the Deftones after White Pony. Taste in music changed a lot over the years, and I'm proud of anything that I listened to in the past. Chevelle meant a lot to me around 2003. Now I probably wouldn't even go to their concert if they came to Europe. Time flies.

Their new album is out in December - it's called 'Hats of to the Bull'
The first single is 'Face to the Floor'
Not the best Chevelle song I've heard, it's got a cool riff but it's very simple.
Definitely a long way off from being one of their best singles though, I hope the rest of the album is stronger.
What do you think of it?

Are you sure it was Hover?   I had "Drop to Zero" that said Deftones, Tool and Glassjaw    it was Trust Company...   great band btw.

I found the same "Drop to Zero" file years ago, they've got a new album out really soon  :)

Chevelle are great too. I saw 'em live with the Butterfly Effect years ago. Not many people were there for Chevelle, but damn did they play a good show.

Hover and Drop to Zero were written by "Trust Company." Originally they were known as "41 down."

Ni fu ni fa... really not sure why every time they release an album I listen to it with high hopes, and end up being disappointed.
It has a few songs which are good, but most of  are downright boring and mediocre! Definitely won't make that mistake again with their next album, and this is coming by someone who loved both Point #1 and Wonder What's Next.

Fell off?  Sci-Fi Crimes was one of their best albums!  Didn't have a lot of their best songs (Emotional Drought = best ever) but as an entinre ALBUM it definitely rocked it.  Deftones, Marilyn Manson, Mindless Self Indulgence, Chevelle, and Incubus.  That's all I need in this world.

Anyone know how many copies 'Hats off to the Bull' has sold so far.
It's debuted at no. 20 on Billboard so I'm guessing about 40k
