Great thread man.
Deftones - Adrenaline: first song I heard was Bored, then Root... it got me hooked when was a wee whippersnapper!
Metallica - An Justice for all: Got me into metal more full on more than any other record, the riffs are second to none.
Micheal Jackson - Thriller: Used to Dance to this as a kid, the first bit of music I got into and really touched me (lol sorry crap joke).
Radiohead - OK Computer: I remember getting this when it came out in 97 or something and it being so chilled and melodies just taking me away, awesome.
Thin Lizzy - Live and Dangerous: In my opinion, the best rock and roll band ever, the tunes they wrote were simply amazing, and seeing them live well that was like king boner right there.
The Police - everything: introduced me to more interesting melodies, fucking love this band.
Diss me all you want, but my current interest in metal (and rock) was sparked off by Linkin Park's Hybrid Theory and Meteora. A few years down the line, I started listening to (a little) Limp Bizkit and all those other crappy nu-metal bands on the Kerrang music channel, 3 years ago I got into Metallica (St. Anger is only bad when you compare it to old school Metallica!), System Of A Down (Toxicity is a great album) and Muse (Absolution). This is the point where I started to realise I was actually into rock/metal and not all the crap my friends listen to. Last September I bought White Pony, my first Deftones album, and since then I've become a full-on metal head.
Jeff Buckley - Grace
changed my whole view on music.

Tool's music and lyrics, and the time I spent in the Toolshed forums changed my way of thinking, not only in music but in life general. No other band has had such a powerful influence on me. Though if it wasn't for RATM, Deftones and Korn, I wouldn't probably listen to Tool either.
So to make a list:
Tool - Ænima
Tool - Lateralus
Korn - Korn
Korn - Issues
Deftones - Around The Fur
RATM - Evil Empire
Slipknot - S/t
And going further:
Cypress Hill - Black Sunday (the rap phase in the mid-90's)
Prodigy - Music For The Jilted Generation (introduced me to triphop, electronica, even trance after a while)
Iron Maiden - Powerslave (yay, my first purchased cassette!)
Guns N' Roses - Use Your Illusion(s)
Oh, and thanks to Napster! That's where I found Tool's "Learn To Swim". :D
RATM - S/T
Deftones - Adrenaline
Incubus - Science
some other
the fragile by nine inch nails
this album was the soundtrack to one of the most difficult parts of my life.
a lof of drugs where consumed to the tune of this record.
a lot of mistakes where made to this music.
i hold this album dear to my heart, in many ways i find that if the music wasnt playing, i'd be dead.
other than that, a classic rock station got me into the heavier stuff, i wouldnt be able to single out one band.
good thread...
for me:
Mogwai- Young Team, God I love this band, it made me realize how much emotion and feeling you can put into music without lyric's... changed my views on music
Smashing Pumpkins- Siamese Dream, this album really got me into rock and out of my rap stage and there was no looking back, Lol
Deftones- White Pony, my first deftones album, need I say more...
Cure- Bloodflowers, my first cure album... beautifully meloncholy
Slipknot- Self Titled, this album came out when I was in high school when I was young and full of teenage angst- I had never heard anything else like it and I was actually surprised by how much I liked it and could relate to it, it really got me into metal
Poison the Well- You come before you, previously I had hated this band, but after a recommendation of a friend I gave them another shot and this began one of my all time favorite albums, and emotional roller coaster- I love it, and it helped me to not be scared to break my initial impressions of something and be more opened minded
Norma Jean - Bless the Martyr, kiss the Child (What helped me discover how great music can be)
Converge - Jane Doe
Tool - Lateralus
Under Byen - Af Samme Stof som Stof
Efterklang - Tripper
Radiohead - Hail to the thief
poison the Well - You come before you
The most major albums that changed me were Deftones - Adrenaline, Marilyn Manson - ACSS, The Mars Volta - DLITC, Pink Floyd - Animals, Converge - Jane Doe, and The Beatles - Sgt. Peppers
white pony, jane doe, ok computer.
i might as well have not listened to anything before i found these albums.
Cool Thread
I think the first album that really got me into music as teenager was "Dookie" by Green Day, also Weezer's Blue Album.
The first tape I ever got when I was a kid was"Hammer Please Don't Hurt 'Em" I was like 8. Then I checked out AC/DC's Razor's Edge from the library! And never gave it back!
But as a whole I'd say
The Jimi Hendrix Experience - Are You Experienced? (This album changed my view of music)
Deftones - Around The Fur (I don't think I've played any other cd as much as this one. Changed the entire way hear dynamics in music.
Cave In - Jupiter (Musically, took me to places and opened my mind to so much more. This album is an experience. Nuff said.)
Poison The Well - The Opposite Of December (This album got me into hardcore and everything in between of the heavy music spectrum, as I'm sure it did for a lot of people)
Denali - S/T (Beautiful music.)
The Dillinger Escape Plan - Calculating Infinity (The best band in the world. Hands down.)
Mastodon - Remission (At a close 2nd to Dillinger)
The Fall Of Troy - Doppleganger (The most hypnotic album I've ever heard. It never leaves my head.)
Curl Up And Die - We May Be Through With The Past, But The Past Ain't Through With Us EP's
(Heavy, punk, emotional, melodic, passionate, technical, everything that I enjoy in music.)
Botch - We Are The Romans (The most important heavy music album from any genre to come out in the last 15 years. I can't think of many hardcore/metal bands that are out now, who don't blatantly rip off this band.)
I think there's more, but this all I got for now.
By the way all these comments are just my opinion, as I'm sure most of you will feel differently about my choices and statements. These aren't facts, just possibilites.

Good thread!
I always say there are 4 albums that growing up really moved me and are my favorites from the time. Like high school era.
In no set order:
Janes Addiction - Nothing's Shocking. Up until this time (about '89) my friends and I were listening to punk, hardcore, thrash, speed-metal. Old Metallica, Circle Jerks, Suicidal Tendencies, etc. An older friend put on the tape (!) for NS and from the start it was so different sounding from anything else. It still "rocked" but in a different way from anything else. Also I thought the opening song "Up the beach" was really moving. Kind of ethereal like floating to heaven. lol I don't really know how to explain.
Red Hot Chili Peppers - Mother's Milk Kinda like Nothing's Shocking this album steered me away from the harder/heavier stuff I was into. The vibe on the album I really liked. Something about it reminded me of my older brother. lol
Danzig - S/T The perfect album for my angst ridden teen years. lol Dark, heavy, evil... :P Really good album and I think pretty influential too. And the videos were all good too.
Nirvana - Bleach I liked the energy on this album a lot. The lyrics too. It was similar enough to a lot of other stuff I was into at the time, but unique also. I was lucky enough to see Nirvana live in the summer of '91 right beofre they got big too. :D
I think I heard all these albums in '89. :o
_________________________________________________________________________
Honorable mentions
My Bloody Valentine - Loveless This is kind of cheating since I saw a video for this CD 1st, but that prompted me to but the CD and at the time and even now it was unlike ANYTHING I ever heard. All the EPs that go with it too.
Stone Roses - S/T My intro to Madchester. I saw a video for them also and really liked it s got the album and this steered me even more away from metal and metal-ish music.
Fear Factory - Soul of a New Machine I heard this sometime in '93. on a late night radio show that played nothing but Death Metal, Grindcore, and other extreme music. What really stood out about FF was the clean and then heavy vocals and use of samples. It just stood out from all the other songs that were being played. And was GOOD. Still one of my fav albums. But not enuf to get me back into metal at the time (Death metal, Grind, etc.)
Cypress Hill - S/T I saw the videos for this CD, really liked em, and when I heard the album I thought something new was being done in rap.
White Pony changed me. It made me spike my hair and grow sideburns.

ahh also the beard goattee
haha the same here ;D just watch my av 8)
Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness - The Smashing Pumpkins.
It was the start of a very, very happy time in my life (despite the name, that album makes me so happy. Its my all-time favorite).
The Matrix Soundtrack featuring My Own Summer was probably a big one too. It took me out of my nu-metal Staind and Linkin Park phases and threw into the world of REAL metal where I discovered the Deftones and got totally hooked.
I wouldn't say that Mer De Noms changed my life exactly, but its definitely the most nostalgic album I could ever listen to. Its like a time machine... its very powerful.
Mer De Noms = October.

-Matt
Deftones-Adrenaline
This album was an instand hit with me. I had liked Korn before hearing Deftones, but after my first listen, I was hooked. I knew they were a much more talented band.
Thursday- Full Collapse
That album got me away from nu-metal back in 8th grade. Although, I didn't really listen to much nu-metal (maybe like 3 bands) I listened to more new wave/80's music.
Saetia- A Retrospective
This is what got me into more emo violence, fast, more raw shit. I love this band.

the first actual cd i ever owned was : rage against the machine, evil empire.
it was given to me by my friend at school, bcus his mom would hav kicked his ass if she heard it, and i had NO CLUE what it was, or who they were! just Happy, that i had a cd! (cassettes were what us oldies use to listen too when we were little). and i remeber when i got home and put it on, i was like whhhhhhhhhhhat.
i could go on forever with cds that "changed me" but the one that sticks out the most for me is
smashing pumpkins: siamese dream
it was the first cd, that made me realize music is more then melody, instruments and singing...
Theres some damn fine albums being named.teh awesomeness!
Deftones - Around The Fur
I just feel like ATF is a perfect record from the first track all the way to the bong hit to Damone. When chino explained this record saying it was just being stuck in this certain zone and it was all just fluent as hell, i see exactly what he was saying, its just perfection.
Its got alot of sentiment to me, from certain songs ive shared with best friends over the years to just places ive been in my life and hearing this record at those times. I'd like my second record to be half as good as this, if somehow i could match it, that would be my dream.

Same here. Strange, but same.
Me too! It threw off the shackles of pop/rock & nu-metal, It made me notice how narrow my image of music had been.
glad you noticed it, sickened. My man!

The Angelic Process - Weighing Souls With Sand (A recent discovery for me as I had no clue music like this existed. Trully amazing)

LOL. How can I not agree that certain albums changed people? If they say it did, it did. Just because it hasn't changed me doesn't mean that it's factually "shit music". I mean you're entitled to your opinion on whether you like a band, but I believe you asked, "how can that ridiculous shit change soemone". I don't know how, but it obviously did for them, so that's their thing.
Theirs a boat load of albums and band listed by people in this thread that I have either 1.) Never heard of, or 2.) If I have heard of them, never really listened to them so i generally don't make judgements saying whether it could have changed someone or not.
I'm not arguing with you for the sake of argument, just trying to figure out where you're coming from. I can say, that every band/album that I listed is what I love and stuff I remember listening to and being fascinated by it. I mean you just seem so angry that people aren't listing what you think is good. And then you say you don't think people have personality...if they all put stuff you agreed with, how much personality would their be then? None.

Well I guess we'll have to agree to disagree. I only know Mike Patton from Faith No More and I never really listened to Pantera, but 311 absolutely changed me personally as far as music goes, especially their early stuff...not the shit that got voted onto TRL a few times. Their a great band, very musically talented with a lot of different styles. That's just my tastes. It's not the only thing I listen to, but ti's one of my favorites. I think a lot of it, depends on people's age, where they grew up and overall what they were exposed to. Not everyone is the same...that's the beauty of it.
yeah, ok.

Deftones - Deftones: I got into them around this era and I still get shivers every time Hexagram starts
System Of A Down - Toxicity: heard it when I was about 13 and it changed my views on music forever. I have no doubt this album is what got me into heavier music
Profane - The Day We Scorched The Sky: been into this local band for a couple years now but I only first saw them live last July supporting Mnemic. Picked this album up the day after [about a week after it was re-released] and never before have I listened to an album as much as this one. I still listen to it pretty much daily and also the fact that I'm friends with them now, it just brings back memories of some awesome times with them... even though I haven't really known them that long :)

It's really good to read about that. I remember getting Profane's album when it was first relesed :) I also have a similar thing happen to me with a now defunct local band called Kilkus. Their album was the soundtrack to my life for almost 2 years. Man music can make you do things and only the feeling of love is as or more powerful than music.

Awesome! :D I always figured I was the only person on here who, well, even knew who they were :P
I think it's that little bit more special when it's a local band cos you kinda watch them grow and play bigger shows and support bigger bands, and everyone tends to know each other at their gigs. Plus there's none of that I'm a rockstar bullshit and you can pretty much hang out with them at their shows too.. yea it's cool :]

it makes sense to me now why your so angry at the world. and im not trying to be funny.. it made your whole board personality come to life as well.
since it seems like im making fun of you. one album that helped change my life was linkin park. hybrid theory. so you can poke fun at that if you like
i got into that cd in 8th grade. b4 anyone even know who LP was. then they got huge. and i hated them forever. but my god did i love hybrid theory. i miss the old days
hybrid theory one of the first album ive ever bought back in 2001 i think. i bought when i saw crawling videos (im not really into one step closer) i was 15.
First off I would have to say Adrenaline. It officially made Deftones my favorite band and blew my fucking mind.
I'd also say Rush of Blood to the Head by Coldplay. I guess you could say it broadened my musical horizons. It's a beautiful album.

when i was a kid i my favorite music was metallica, pantera .. and all that heavy/thrash metal stuff .. one day i met this friend of mine called ignacio and his father used to work in a music store ... ignacio's father on my birthday gave me the adrenaline album on cassette hahaha xD he said something like this: i know that you like this kind of satanic music so listen this is a new band called deftones ... so i put the record on my walkman (i'm not that old ok haha) and i started listening the tape .. the sound was so fresh ... i never heard something like that before in my life ... i didn't know a shit of english haha but i just loved ... like someone said before it fucking blew my mind !!!
thanx man :D
For sure all of the Deftones records have changed me. As well as all of Incubus' catalog. There are too many albums to post here that have changed me, but i am too lazy to type them out! :P

albums that have changed me, some more than others:

Led Zeppelin - Remasters
Type O Negative - October Rust
Alice In Chains - Dirt
Deftones - White Pony
Talk Talk - Colour of Spring

Nirvana - Unplugged In New York
Dredg - El Cielo
there are more but I can't come up with anything right now.
STP- 12 Gracious Melodies (I think this is the 1st CD I ever bought and it's great still)
Sneaker Pimps- Becoming X ( I still love this entire album even after 12 years of listening to it. It was my first encounter with techno/trance/trip hop genre)
311- Music, Grassroots, Self Titled, Transistor ( I love 311. LOVE them. But these 4 albums were my soundtrack for so long. Most girls were freaking out about Backstreet Boys and all I could do was listen to these albums)
Limp Bizkit- Significant Other, Results May Vary ( Regardless of people opinions on LB these two albums def changed me. 'SO' got me through my angst-ridden teen years and 'RMV' got be through a very bad breakup)
Sublime- 40 oz to Freedom, Self titled ( It's Sublime. They're fun and timeless IMO. Enough said)
That's it for now. There are so many other artists/bands that have changed my life but not necessarily entire albums.
My choices are:
Bros - Bros. First LP I ever brought.
EMF - Schubert Dip

Red Hot Chili Peppers - Mothers Milk
Faith No More - Angel Dust
Alice In Chains - Facelift
Dredg - El Cielo
Coheed and Cambria - In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3
Slayer - Reign In Blood
Metallica - Master of Puppets
ok....I'm going to try to keep this by year...that way it doesn't get too long. I guess my real introduction to loving music was in 2001....before that it was just nu-metal and pop-punk.....so.

Why? - Elephant Eyelash
The Sound of Animals Fighting - The Ocean and The Sun ----/---- Tera Melos - Drugs to the Dear Youth

korn - korn (1994)
Around the fur for sure. I'd never really listened to anything from Deftones' apart from their music videos on youtube, Around the Fur was their first album I ever bought and I listened to it start to finish for months. I was 13 and feeling all those angsty teenager emotions. At the time I didn't really consider the lyrics, just the music and dynamics of the vocals, still, I'd say this album changed me. I felt like I could actually relate to something even though at that time I hadn't experienced much of what Chino was singing about. The more I listen to it and older I get, the more I can relate to it.
Also Gorillaz debut and Moby - Play.
AROUND THE FUR. My fav. album of all time. Came out at the perfect time for time for me and spoke to me in ways nearly nothing has since. I bought it the day it came out and had no idea what it even sounded like. A few kids suggested it to me cause I was a Korn fan at the time, unfortunately. I was basically told that Deftones sound like Korn but not as good. I think we all know how that turned out. From the songs, the sound and tone of every instrument, the production, the vocals/lyrics... even the cover art and song titles. It's all very ME and if any album could describe me as a person in every way, it'd be Around the Fur. I love all kinds of music and many albums and artists changed my life but nothing will ever touch Around the Fur to me. Ever.
Also, 'Louder Than Bombs' by The Smiths. Close second.
Pink Floyd - The Wall
that album alone changed my entire view of music as a kid.
Deftones - White Pony
The mars Volta - Deloused
Tool - Aenema
M83 - Saturdays = youth
God is an Astronaut - All is violent all is bright
I can't say that any album has ever changed me, but these albums were pivotal in shaping my musical preferences and expanding my horizons.
Tom Waits - Bone Machine
Mastodon - Blood Mountain (this album basically got me into the more extreme side of metal)
Isis - Panopticon
Jeff Buckley - Grace
Dredg - El Cielo (this holds a special place in my heart. I will never forget the first time i heard it. I'd never heard anything like it before and it simply blew my mind)

Nirvana - Unplugged MTV 1994
That's a weird nirvana choice, craig!
well, in cronological order:
Nirvana - Incesticide: They were my saviours from radio manufactured music. Still to this day I hold them dearly to my heart and take them as an example of artistic integrity. A few months ago I wrote a song in tribute to Mr cobain called "better never than late".
Metallica - master of puppets (the song): I got that feeling that I was entering into something huge since the first second I pressed play.
Deftones's first 3 record: finally I found Exactly what complemented me sonically perfectly. Since the first time deftones entered into my life, I knew it would be a lifetime relationship. It's the band that made me want to create my own music, and for that I'm forever grateful.
Cabezones - Alas: The argentinian deftones. I saw them about 15 times in 3 years, the first show I ever attended was theirs. Vocalist's voice watermarked my youth and development as a vocalist myself.
The cure - Bloodflowers: My introduction to soft, but still really heartfelt music. I'll always be a cure fan, no matter what.
Thursday's War all the time, GlassJAw's EYEWTKAS & thrice's vehissu: They all entered into my life christmas 2005. They ignited a new era of music hearing on me & influenced vastly my music development on guitar & general arranging. A lot of their lyrics speak a lot to me in all levels.
Letlive - Fake history: This band restored my faith in future. I hope everyone here checks it out, flawless and full passion, second by second. STAND UP.
I hope the list wasn't too boring, I felt it was better to put some things into context and talk about how they hit my life rather than make it an ordinary list. I hope the rest of you do the same; I want to know why art changed you forever too.

Thursday's War all the time
About MTV unplugged, it was the last recording before Cobain died, I'm sure you know this. It won a grammy and has some amazing songs on it.
War all the Time is without a doubt Thursdays best album, came out not to long after the 9/11 attacks and definitely has a patriotic aspect to it, and I'm not even American.
Weird Al Yankovic - Bad Hair Day
This album pretty much shaped my sense of humor and love of comedy for the rest of my life.
Adrenaline, Around the Fur, White Pony
Can't let go of that Puscifer album.
I don't remember the last time an album was THAT addictive. Eventually I will listen to something else again, but not today, not tomorrow. Not sure when tbh

Which one? Conditions or Vagina? Great albums but I already played Conditions out now...
Smashing Pumpkins - MCIS (ive had this on rotation since childhood. I can't ever see myself not listening to this album. one of the best ever made. ever. Siamese Dream and Pisces Iscariot might as well be on this list too.)
Hum - You'd Prefer An Astronaut
Deftones - S/T and White Pony (all deftones albums, erally. but these two in particular.... whew.)
Soundgarden - Badmotorfinger (I can't explain to you how much i love this album. exceedingly phenominal)
Nirvana - Bleach
Green Day - Insomniac
Iron Maiden - Piece of Mind
Mastodon - Leviathan (although Crack The Skye and Blood Mountain are their better albums, this got me into sludge)
Pantera - Far Beyond Driven (your balls will drop if they havent already)
Radiohead - Amnesiac (their most underrated, but the one I'm most attatched to.)
Weezer - Pinkerton
Silversun Pickups - Carnavas (flawless. absolutely flawless.)
Death - Symbolic
Sleep - Dopesmoker (I didn't love it through first listen, but one night my buddy and i sat in the blacklight with this album on.... amazing stuff. most unique stoner band you'll find)
Primus - Brown Album
Disturbed - Believe
Pink Floyd - Animals
AC/DC - Dirty Deeds
Led Zeppelin - ZOSO
Dead Kennedys - Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables
Judas Priest - Sad Wings of Destiny (surprised it isn't SFV?)
Type O Negative - October Rust
that's just off the top of my head.
Saturday Night Wrist and The Downward Spiral. There's more but those two come to mind instantly.
Metallica- And Justice For All
Korn- Follow the Leader
Deftones-White Pony
Korn's FTL is probably the one album that had the greatest impact on me. It still sounds special to me every time I turn it on. The beginning of "It's On!" gives me chills.
At the drive-in-acrobatic tenament,in/casino/out,acrobatic tenament
I found these guys right before r.o.c. came out.this shit molested my mind.it was just so raw and passionate and showed me the beauty of music after being overtaken and bored by mainstream stuff at the time. Its just to cool for this world.I was all on my own on this shit, all my friends HATEED it.I spent that whole summer searching for all there splits, eps and bootlegs, and was showing all of it off,I just stoped trying and was like fuck y'all ill just keep the greatest thing ever to myself.to me there discography is flawless, and they killed it before they lost control.i found it at the perfect time in my life,It opened my eyes to indie music a whole lot,and taught me the best music isn't at the big chain store, but in the dirtest, most cramped record store operated by music nazis in the bad part of town.
Other albums:
Pearl Jam- first three albums
Smashing pumpkins-siamese dream,m.c.I.s.

Devin Townsend is sending me towards sobriety with his 'GHOST'.

He used to have any everything-problem, too. Sober and clean now. Loves life and his family. A true gem. One of the best musicians in the world. Look up to him, you should.
Tokio Hotel - Zimmer 483: The first band I gt into. Before that I was exclusively into rap and RnB and a couple of rock songs dotted here and there. It was the first band I actually liked, and they're the reason I opened my mind to other bands, and then other genres of rock, heavier bands, etc.
Immortal Technique - first two albums: These albums I heard around the same time and it just kinda developed my mind, my maturity, outlook on the world, inspired me to wanna learn more about the state of the world, wanna help ppl, etc.
Deftones - White Pony and Deftones: I didnt first hear of Deftones until 2009, and the first song I heard was Beware. It took me forever to get into more of their music, but those two albums blew me away because of the emotion, the atmosphere, the raw feeling to it, Chino's voice, etc. It was all just powerful and made me see music as true expression and art as opposed to just listening to something that sounds nice. That I felt a connection with those songs and they'd make me feel better (or sometimes worse) listening to them.
The Mars Volta - Deloused In The Comatorium: At first I didnt like the seemingly-ridiculousness and chaotic nature of their music in general, but wen I read into the story and just listened more, I was just hit with this feeling of "fuck, how can humans be so creative and so deep?". Again, blown away by the creativity, the emotion, Cedric's voice, as well as the music itself. It was very different than the music I liked even at that point. I was getting into more types of music, but this was still very far-out for me. It was another album that inspired me.
Alborosie - all albums: Not really a fan of reggae minus a couple of Spanish reggae singers (not reggaeton). Alborosie was the first reggae musician whose music I liked in general, as opposed to beforehand wen it was one or two songs frm different ppl. It opened my tastes and although I dont like much reggae and dont like any of them as much as I love Alborosie, I like a few more reggae artists now because of his music.

Tokio Hotel - Zimmer 483
(http://www.reactiongifs.com/wp-content/gallery/no/guy_screaming.gif)
These albums basically shaped my taste in music:
Saturday Night Wrist / White Pony - Deftones
Lateralus - Tool
Mer De Noms - A Perfect Circle
In Absentia - Porcupine Tree
El Cielo - Dredg
Jar Of Flies - Alice In Chains
Vugar Display Of Power - Pantera
King For A Day, Fool For A Lifetime - Faith No More
Team Sleep - Team Sleep
Playing The Angel - Depeche Mode
Vol. 3 The Subliminal Verses - Slipknot
This Is A Pinback CD - Pinback
Damnation - Opeth
obZen - Meshuggah
Billy Talent - Billy Talent (Horrific band, but I liked them when I was 12-13 years old. They also got me into having interest for music and finding new bands, instead of passively soaking up what's on the radio or on MTV like before)
Many albums have had a monumental impact on my life and I consider myself a lover of music through and through. My life could almost be catalogued in chapters of what I was listening to and how it moulds my view of certain ages and times. Certain pieces of music stick out though. It never seems to be certain songs either. I'm an album guy. I never download the single, I get the album and I view albums as one big piece for the most part. These are a few of those albums that hold a particularly special place. Not necessarily my favourite or what I consider to be the best albums ever (though 2 or 3 could easily be), but rather what stands out when I think about certain periods in my life.
Deftones - White Pony: This album changed my view of music at the time. Particularly heavy music and turned me onto a lot of stuff I probably would never have heard otherwise.
Deftones - Saturday Night Wrist: This is the most important and personal album in my entire life PERIOD. It came out at the absolute darkest time in my life when everything that could go wrong did and I lost everything that ever mattered to me. I was homeless, heartbroken, alone, turning to drugs and it was a particularly harsh winter. This album shaped me as a person from that point forward and served as a source of comfort. People shit on this album sometimes and thats okay but it saved my life. That's not a corny over exaggeration either. This album was an integral part in my decision to not kill myself.
Coheed and Cambria - In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth 3: My preconceptions of rock bands were shattered and this album was the jumping off point to make Coheed the second most important band in my life after Deftones. It's also a very special reminder of my girlfriend whom I love more than I can imagine loving anything else.
Radiohead - OK Computer: Another album that changed my perception of music and served as the second most important album during the aforementioned dark period of my life.
The Beatles - The Beatles (The White Album): This album made me a Beatles fan and was an album a dear friend of mine and I would bond over as we looped it over and over and ditched school to smoke pot and play risk. He passed away a few years back and I miss him dearly. This album however continues to provide many great memories and is something I'll always cherish. That summer was the greatest period of my life.
Pink Floyd - The Wall: I stole this cassette from my brother as a kid and I had no idea who Pink Floyd were. This album was the beginning of my life long love affair with music. I'm still a massive Pink Floyd fan this day and a few years I got to see Roger Waters perform the album live. None of my friends could get the time to go or afford to go but I flew to Montreal, stayed a week there and went to this concert by myself because I just had to see it. It was and continues to be an album that means very much to me. There are so many memories involved with this album for me and it has a special significance among myself and some friends, some of whom I've kept and some I've lost. Every once in a while this album comes back into my rotation and it always has a profound effect on me.
Hey Rosetta! - Plan Your Escape EP: This was the soundtrack to a relationship I had that fell apart in an awful way after 4 years together. It was my first major relationship and I was deeply in love. It's still very special to me. I recommend it highly. Some spots are still tough to listen to but overall I come out feeling like I've grown a lot. It's a great album for self reflection for me.
Our Lady Peace - Happiness... Is Not A Fish That You Can Catch: Go ahead and scoff. I still love this album and it's a great chunk of music from a band that never again matched that greatness and got rather terrible after that. But when this came out I thought it was the fucking best shit ever. My best childhood friend (Allan) and I would listen to this album constantly and read Mad magazine and thoroughly enjoy life. Kind of funny because this is such a horribly depressing album for the most part. It was the apex of my innocence and an integral part in shaping my musical taste. Good times.
Weezer - Pinkerton: This album is junior high for me. It is the soundtrack of my adolescence. 'Nuff said.

Filter - Title Of Record
excellent choice, happy to see someone includes this album. It had a huge impact on me as well.
Title Of Record and The Amalgamut meant a lot to me when they came out, and I still listen to these albums nowadays as they don't get old for me.
I don't think I could say any record has ever changed me.
In Chronological Order:
Green Day- Dookie (back in 1994- first band I ever really liked-- completely ruined the cassette just by playing it all the time)
Bush- 6teen Stone (much the same as Green Day)
Smashing Pumpkins- Siamese Dream
White Pony
Bloc Party- Silent Alarm & Death Cab- Transatlanticism (got into both of these albums at the same time, which got me more into "indie rock")
Sigur Ros- Takk &Mogwai- Mr. Beast ( got me into Post Rock)
Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers- Greatest Hits, and Matt Mays & El Torpedo's self titled. - got me to appreciate simple southern inspired, road-trip rock n roll
In no particular order:
Deftones- White Pony
Deftones- Deftones
Glassjaw- Everything You Ever Wanted To Know About Silence
Team Sleep- Team Sleep
Failure- Fantastic Planet
At The Drive In- Relationship of Command
A Perfect Circle- Mer De Noms

Most of them either helped me through some tough times or helped shape my current taste in music into what it is today. Some of them are slightly embarassing, but they have made me all the better.
