Good to see some of you guys hanging around here. I'm pretty good at the moment. I went to see Tool yesterday night in Paris. It was pretty good, those guys are awesome, but the problem is that their show is too perfect. Everything is too "squared" (if I can say that in english). They are awesome musicians (OMFG Danny Carey must be an alien...), but they cannot produce the shows I like the most. Maynard is a good frontman though, he try to spak a bit with the audience, dances sometimes, etc., but they just can't take it higher... The show and the sound was huge, but imo, they will never be able to compete with deftones for example. And I'm not basing this opinion only on the fact that I'm a bigger fan of Deftones than of Tool.
But, hey cool evening anyway, met some buds, drank some beers, smoke some homegrown joints. Everything's cool !!! :)

Yeah, Tool is that kind of band that the live show sounds like the CD. I dislike that too. It doesn't add much to the live.
In total opposite to Deftones. Their live show can add a fuck lotto the show. The energy dripping from the stage, the lyrics, the little differences in songs the way they're done live and the way that they're on the record.
Must state, sometimes, Deftones live (Chino) can do the opposite of 'adding something to the live show'....a tune sung out of tune at the wrong moment can drop me right out of the song.
Must state; hasn't happened very much. Can remember that happening at Pinkpop 2003 though, especially during 'Minerva'.
id have to agree about tool. ive not seen them live but have watched and listened to a few bootlegs. theres not really much, if at all, improvisation. thats why the mars volta were such a great band to watch live, every song wasnt the same as the recorded version.

That's a good point actually! My favourite type of beer is Kronenbourg, and I usually dont get a hangover with that. But the cheapest pint you can get here is a Fosters for a quid, and I normally do feel a bit woozy the next day.
For me though, a beer or two just makes me tired on the whole. It's a good sleeping pill/liquid!

Here things are allright. Great friends, radioshow's still happening. Uni work is going alright. Need to have a talk about my bachelorpaper, see if it's done now (I sure hope so, I worked my ass off for it) and need to contact another professor about another paper, got a nice flexibel job, went out for a vacation a couple of weeks ago back to Suriname where I did my student internship two years (one of two trips I planned), great music. Single still though. Ovet time I met some nice girls, for a bit (ie made out with a couple, or a little longer) but no one stayed. I'll find someone though, eventually.

Suriname is a beautifull country. I had the change todo my student internship there and I did, I taught history and lived there for six and a half months, from september '04 untill april '05. And a couple of weeks ago, I went back for a short two week holiday, to catch a bit of the spirit again, to see people again, andsee my students.
It's funny, when people asked me when I got back in '05 if I was ever to return I said something like 'I don't know, the people I met there are gone (other students) so if I go back to soon, it will dissapoint. But if I ever go back, it will be when my secondyear students are taking there exam'. I said that as a timeframe, like, maybe in two years, and I now, I have actually done just that.
It's an awesome country again.
if you ever have the change to go there, definatly do, and contact me before, I'll tell you everything I know: about the country, the people, their culture, history and language and what to do and see.

But yeah, it's fucking awesome. It's the kind of place that if you go once, you become aware of how better it is compared to everything you already knew before. Even if you think the opposite before coming here, it's just because you have no clue. It's as crazy as that ! People are nice (even though Chinese are far from being the most welcoming ones...), everything is more convenient than you could ever have imagined, you have so many different stuff to do, you can find tons of heaven like places for what you like, whether it being ski, beach, trekking, party, culture stuff, etc.
Plus, when you're a foreigner working in a foreign company, you usually have a very nice situation money wise.
And it's kinda the place to be now and in the next XXX years because of fucking China taking over the world and stuff... :)
Anyway, as you guessed with my enthusiastic rant, I'm quite happy to be here ! :)

Things are good in here, as usual... :)
I don't have lots of time, so I'll answer quickly to your questions :
The must sees of Paris would be some walking along the streets in Saint Michel (very close to Notre Dame cathedral), it's a very nice place, be sure to take your time around, go visit Notre Dame if you can, you can walk along the Seine if you want, and go in direction of Chatelet, it will bring you next to the Louvre, and some nice park (Jardin des Tuileries), it's a great walk to do.
I also suggest you to go visit Sacre Coeur (another cathedral) and Montmartre (area where the movie Amelie was flimed), these are great places to visit... And walk man, don't take buses or stuff, just go down at metro station Anvers (this is where I was leaving), and go up the streets in direction of Sacre Coeur, it's all up the hill of Montmartre, it's really a great neighbourhood.
There is also of course Champs Elysees which you can walk along to (I suggest you start from the "Arc de Triomphe" (metro Charles de Gaulle Etoile) ). Also the Trocadero (metro Trocadero), which is next to Champ de Mars and Tour Eiffel, nice places to walk along. At last, there's another place I like very much which is Opera, where you can find nice walks to do (try to search for "Place Vendome" around). FYI, you can go walking from Chatelet / Louvres to Opera, it's quite a cool thing to do.
As for nightclubs and stuff, man, I'm not the good one to ask unfortunately... I always hated clubbing in Paris. Anyway, on a Wednesday night there are usually some very good electro music parties (from the poing of view of my clubbing friends) on a boat called "Concorde Atlantique" (metro Invalides). You can try to find some info on http://www.parisbouge.com/ (all in french but that's still better than nothing...) : this website contains all the parties that are happening in Paris.
Anyway, I can still advice you some good areas for going out : there's this one street called "Rue Oberkampf" (metro oberkampf) which contains tons of nice bars, it's pretty cool. I'd recommend that definitely.
Also, you can find quite lots of bars in the Saint Michel - Saint Germain area.
Last, you can try the Chatelet area too, some bars there too (I don't like it very much though, and the crowd is usually pretty bad there during the night).
Lastly, for the catacombs, I never visited that, so I don't know a lot. I guess you can try to find some info on internet. From the little bit of search I did here's the deal : you can visit it with some guides (and only public area). The entrance is metro Denfert-Rochereau.

Im flying to tokyo tomorrow (narita). and will more than likely be spending the night. do you know of any hotels semi close to narita that are still in a cool part of town where I could just walk out and be close to some cool bars and shit? I know you aren't a tokyo tour guide. But I know you have spent a lot more time there than me, so I figured it was worth a shot
Will probably be too late for the advice, but just in case :
Narita is unfortunately far from Tokyo : you have to take a train ride 1 hour long to be in center Tokyo, and to my knowledge, there's nothing around Narita (at least nothing interesting).
I won't know of any hotels as I never slept in any, but the part of the town you want to check just for 1 night is Roppongi. Definitely... That's where all the party (well, not all, but the easy part) is. Try to find a hotel in Tokyo Station area (that's where the train going from and to Narita starts / ends), and take a cab ride between roppongi and Tokyo Station ("Tokyo Eki" in japanese).
The club I would recommend you is called "Muse", not the best one, but very nice parties on Friday nights, and good ones on Saturdays. Plus you're gonna get laid if you're not too much of an ass... :) And it's a regular club, so no problem. Adress would be "Nishi Azabu crossing" ("nishi azabu kosaten" in japanese). Just tell that to a cab driver he should know the place. or just ask to some people around you...
It's just next to the very famous restaurant which inspired Kill Bill restaurant is. Name of the restaurant is "Gonpachi". it's very well known too, so I guess that could help...
Anyway that's it, I hope it's not too late and that you can enjoy a nice time there... Oh, and don't arrive too late, hottest girls get picked up first, so if you arrive late, there will be a high concentration of so so ones... ;)

It was cool. But I might need it on the way back. Might head out a day or two early just to make sure im back on time. Either way, I will spend some time in tokyo one of these days before I leave japan.

I remember showing up and seeing you waiting by the que with your fuckin suitcase (or something to that effect) reading a book and I just remember thinking ''Damn, I swear that's that Tarkil bloke off of Sharing Lungs, what a legend!'' I didn't want to ask though since you appeared to be apart of the 'elite' on this board haha! Then we ended up jamming at the Brixton gig together after that anyway!

I'm missing this kind of stuff where I am now ! Not only for the shows (of course) but also for all the good SL people... I'm used to going to concerts by myself (very little people around me liking the same kind of music), so it's always enjoyable to be able to meet people on these occasions and chill / share drinks etc.
Apart from that, yeah, I'm still in Hong Kong, same old same old (but still enjoying very much being here !!).

Just cause I'm always working, I'm bodybuilding and wrestling now too! So I'm a pretty busy dude, plus this place is such a dead place sometimes, it's hard to be attracted back to it! So glad to hear you're well though brother :)
