So...
New ISIS song (http://www.ipecac.com/audio/081.mp3).
Yeah man! Nice, I wouldnt have found this if you hadnt posted it in here, so cheers dude! Hmm, this sounds nice, good old Isis! Is that Aaron singing, his voice sounds different if it is, it sounds good. Oh there we go, the growl and distortion comes in. Damn I love this band so much!
Oh, and there's the album title too, 'In The Absence Of Truth', cool!
Isis rocks
They've also got a split EP with Aerogramme coming out on Oct 10.
From the PRP:
Isis and Aerogramme's split collaborative EP together has been scheduled for an October 10th release date through Konkurrent Records. The effort was recorded as part of the "In The Fishtank" split series and carries the title of "In The Fishtank 14". It will feature the following track list:
01 - "Low Tide"
02 - "Delial"
03 - "Stolen"
i have been wanting to give this band a listen for awhile i think i am just going to pick up their new album when it comes out and go from there
i believe they are opening for tool tomorrow, im stoked as fuck! i'll be right infront of lord carey watching his wizardry

That they are man, and you're a lucky fucking bastard! If Isis support Tool here in the UK, I think I'll probably have a spasm
aereogramme is also one amazing band, that split EP sounds interesting. and the fact that Isis might probably support Tool is even better.
Yeah Aereogramme are pretty damn good as well! 'Dreams & Bridges' is an amazing song! I've never seen them, but Craig sang for Will Haven when Grady had to go to his wife in Paris. He did well!
this band is extremely talented live, everything was dead on , the vox, guitars , keys, drums. i was very impressed by their set. and lets not even start on what tool did last night. HOLY FUCING SHIT!

no they are not and i dont get why they are so great i got chance to see them in 2003 supporting THURSDAY with million dead and onelinedrawing. I wish i could say it was 5/5 star gig but that retarded band Aereogramme ruined it so have to be 4/5. I dunno maybe they got better or changed but i always disliked them. Im suprised that ISIS hooked up with them
Aereogramme were the best part of the Thursday concert.
i'm just about done with the first track on the new album, and i love it so far

Well I'm sure Aereogramme supported them once, so they must have become friends then, and then Aaron Turner did the artwork for the 'Seclusion' EP. As for your views on the band, fair dos, a bit harsh though man.

oh did u go to Thursday London astoria 2003 gig?
I like the aerogramme split, although I think a couple of poeople in the thread are thinking of it as a traditional split, but its actually both bands collabrating together on tracks.
New album i'm stioll unsure of very very diffrent.
both the new album & the split are fantastic in my opinion. I will be listening to 'em both alot. (until SNW!!!)
Like mentioned above, the split is a collabrative effort and not just a collection of tracks by 2 different bands. A very worthwhile listen!
Not sure if everyone's seen this yet, but this the artwork for the new Isis album
(http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e221/clopclips/081.jpg)
What do you guys think?
I don't like it very much... Pretty poor imo...
Yeah I was kinda thinking that too! Normally Aaron Turner's work is more original and unusual than this! Maybe it's not even him who's done it, but he usually does. Ah well, in the end, guess it's the music that counts, and when we're talking about ISIS I cant see how we can be let down in that department.
It's allright, it's different then anything they did before (cover art wise).
Think I'll go listen to some ISIS soon by the way 8)
Yeah that's true! Cant wait until 30th October, it's going to be a good day!

Maybe some day when I got the time.
I just listened to Red Sea for the first time in a while. Is the part at the beginning ("You were away." "When honey, when was I away?" "I'm not sure. You were though. Away in a sea of red!") original, or is it from a movie or something? Does anyone know what the story behind it is?

Yeah, ITAOT is cool, really
you should buy the new dvd it is verry nice one
I got the dvd as well. it's so good. the performance in sydney alone is worth the price.
Yeah I need to have a look around for the DVD! Also, ITAOT has grown on me vastly! It kinda lacked the immediate impact that 'Panopticon' had on me, but seriously, I think this album is amazing! That atmosphere in 'Over Root And Thorn' totally grabs a hold of me, it's a stunning song! Probably my favourite!
indeed only 20 euros for a full concert of 70 min + 6 other songs
Saw these guys Wednesday night (3/21/07). What a great show. They played "In the Absence of Truth" almost in its entirety, the only song that was excluded was "Garden of Light". I got to hear them play "Garden of Light" when they opened for Tool back in October though, so it's all good. About half way through the set they threw in "From Sinking" and "Wills Dissolve". They ended the night with "In Fiction".
If you get the chance to see these guys do it!
i cant wait for them to come to germany, this band is so amazing
they toured germany before actually.
but I'm gonna see them as well when they're coming over.
I'm seeing them on the 24th May, and I cant wait. I've been really wanting to see these guys again after their last show over here a couple of years ago.

Latest news:
Well, so far, so good! We're a little over half way done tracking our new record. It's nice to hear the songs beginning to really come together. Everyone has been doing a great job and we think it's all going to make for one hell of a record. Working with Joe has been a really cool experience. He has a great ear, provides a very comfortable and creative environment, and seems to really understand what we're after. Decibel came by last week to do a studio report that we believe will be out in January 09, as well as an interview with Jeff in Rock Sound that should be out sometime soon. More pictures and videos to come as we have a few interesting things in the works.
Speaking of "in the works," we'll have "Live V" CD available soon. This one will contain "Oceanic Live from ATP." We were hoping to release this as a live DVD, but we didn't feel the video footage was up to our standards. The audio on the other hand is a full multi-track recording of the entire Oceanic album live, mixed by Justin Broadrick. More on that soon!
Only a couple more weeks until we take a break from the studio and head over to the UK for ATP Nightmare Before Christmas Festival hosted by MELVINS and MIKE PATTON. We're even staying an extra day to try and catch as much of the line up that we can. It's pretty killer! We'll also be taking advantage of our time over there by playing some of our own shows. Please check the show listings on the main page for more details.
We'd also like to mention that Jeff "The Pork" Caxide contributes on two tracks of the new spylacopa ep. To listen go to: www.myspace.com/spylacopa.
All in all, I think we can sum the whole thing up by saying we're pretty excited! A new president, a new record, a tour, a new live cd, and soon a new year and era in this thing called ISIS. We hope you're on board!
CHIN CHIN! - ISIS

indeed. its the "nothing else matters" of isis, a true masterpiece.
i think on panopticon they reached the core of their own style, they didnt change it on ITAOT and the new album seems to continue that sound.
but thats not really a bad thing since they are still doing a damn good job.
Listening to Oceanic almost non stop. In fact I been listening to The Beginnng And The End especially, awesome stuff, fuckin epic and a half

I still cannot make myself ignore the growling vocals :)
i think they fit perfect into their music.
for me, the growling helps to take their epic songs to the most intense points. and i think thats whats distinguishes the style of post- or doom-metal from the usual hardcore.
the vocals float with the music, just like singing, but growled they are just..... more to the point.
but hey, i know what it means when some vocalist ruins a band that you would like otherwise.
maybe you should check "a storm of light", i've been spinning them for a while now and their atmosphere reminds me a alot of isis.
their singer has a very special way of signing - which is sure not everyones cup of tea, too. but i love them.

i couldn't stand A Storm Of Light
actually i refused listening to a lot of good post-metal bands (e.g. Cult Of Luna) because i really hate the vocals. Turner has a bit different vocals, more emotional and hardcore'ish?? even. especially live. before i went to see them live i was afraid that vicals whould be pain for me. No. I didn't even feel it was growling. Just emotional vocals bordering with screams
Maritime and Weight are really good to listen to while stoned/gettingstoned/burningout
One word: Dulcinea

[Taken from Blabbermouth...]
ISIS, the innovative Los Angeles-by-way-of-Boston-based band, will release its fifth full-length album, "Wavering Radiant", on May 5 via Ipecac Recordings. The CD, produced by Joe Baressi (TOOL, QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE), will receive a limited-edition vinyl release on April 21. TOOL's Adam Jones contributed guitar to two songs from the LP.
Guitarist/vocalist Aaron Turner recently discussed the new album with Billboard, saying "This is a better sonic representation of what the band actually sounds like. In the past I think some of the recordings were a little too clean in their final form. There was something about the energy that seemed to be lacking. It seems to feel more like us than anything else has."
Drummer Aaron Harris added, "I feel a sense of completion with this record that I've never felt before. We spent more time creating this record than we have with any other, and I feel in my heart that this record is in many ways our best."
"Wavering Radiant" track listing:
01. Hall Of The Dead
02. Ghost Key
03. Hand Of The Host
04. Wavering Radiant
05. Stone To Wake A Serpent
06. 20 Minutes / 40 Years
07. Threshold of Transformation

Yeh, takes some getting used to for some people, moreso some than others, especially for the people who weren't previously into hardcore/yelling/screaming type bands. But, for me, the way I see it like, if the earth/or/universe had a voice, and made music, Isis is kindof like what that would sound like. It has that realistic chaotic intensity, but with some beautiful soundcapes in some places. That's just my opinion, but I feel very strongly about it. After I listen to Isis, I feel more in tune with my surroundings sometimes. It's cool. Scary sometimes, but it's freakin cool.
okay, after the whole listen I can say that I will be listening to this album more in the future.
Best songs I remember liking? Wills Dissolve and Syndic Calls. very very good.
reminded me of Weight obviously.
overall, nice structure.. and it's one of the albums that you can feel 'quality' presence. It's like a really really good movie but not the genre you're used to. But you acknowledge the goodness of it. And yeah, in the end vocals did not seem that annoying, they actually seemed to fit very very much - I could not imagine this music without those vocals. It would eventually change everything.
I'm looking forward to listen to Oceanic again. With less criticism to vocals.
By the way, maybe before Oceanic I should try In The Absence of Truth?

Hmm, In the Absence of Truth is not as heavy as Oceanic. Quite a different sound. Still a great album though.
But yeah, maybe it's a good idea to give "Absence" a listen first. That way you'll be more prepared for the audio assault that is Oceanic ;)
Btw, glad to hear you're finally enjoying Isis. :)

ITAOT is thier best album IMO, so yes, fucking check it out
doing that tonight, probably.
:)
Oceanic is pure ecstasy. Panopticon is great too, but fails to suck me in like Oceanic.
I'm sorta new to Isis too, is Celestial a good album?
Btw, my daughter is named Isis. :)
i never kenw there's such a girl name, but it sounds pretty awesome
Quoteis Celestial a good album?
Celestial is a strong album in it's own right. It's probably not as diverse as their later albums, but it's as heavy as ISIS can get and never lacks intensity. an album that helped create some amazing follow up albums ... so.... the answer is a clear
'Yes', go get that album.
The Mosquito Control EP is some of the heaviest music I've ever heard. Scary shit.

Has anyone listened to it yet?! I'm at work so I can't d/l it!!!
Well I definitely like it more than their last album. On the first play through, Hall of the Dead is my favorite track.
it's a lot more darker than their past two albums, I'd kind of associate it with Oceanic. Slow and trudging, the keyboard stands out a lot more now.
Going to take a few listens to see how it stacks up.
20 minutes/ 40 years is fucking incredible.

GAH! You bastard! I was gonna wait and buy this, but I'm too tempted to download!!
Got my headphones on, cranked the volume and enjoying the destroying sound of a bass in Hall of the Dead. So far, so fucking good.
Shit dude, I'm about to download it, but I kinda feel guilty for some reason...or that's just the potato chips rotting in my stomach lol...
fuck this 'guilt' shit, I'm gonna buy the album anyways, I guess hearing it early won't ruin anything...it's Isis we're talking about here, their music never disappoints me...
Haha yeah, I feel kind of guilty too. But hey, I've already pre-ordered it.
3 tracks in...IN-FUCKIN'-CREDIBLE.
hey what do you guys recommend me to listen first from this guys? I love the song they did with Mike Patton.
They did a song with Patton? WOAH. Did not know about that. What's it called?
Start with their newest release and work your way backwards.

Well Patton contributed on Oceanic Remixes/Reinterpretations in a version of Maritime.
Ok I'll start with the new album.
that's awesome.
The new album: 5/10
Haha are you serious?
It's epic, man. listen to it some more.
Way better than ITAOT and without a doubt on par with Oceanic and Panopticon (I actually think I like this better than Oceanic). All their albums are amazing.
Well...I don't think I can come to such a quick conclusion about this album either way. I don't think it is as good as Oceanic. Oceanic to me got everything right. Every song, every word, every note hits a distinct emotion or memory. The first time I heard Oceanic I was just like "what the fuck", in a good way. I put this on the first time and I'm thinking "alright, good job".
For some reason, I don't like the one guitar part in the fifth song because it seems almost completely ripped out of a Godspeed You! Black Emperor song. That's being really picky because for the most part I love the song.
The songs also don't really vary. In The Absence of Truth and Panopticon kind of switched it up with really good instrumental songs. I feel that is a missing part in this.
At this point, I'll give it a 7.8

I loved ABSENCE more than this one.
Yeah okay, fair enough. 5/10 is pretty harsh though...
I'm on my second listen now and it's hard for me to put out anything I dont like. It flows so well. 'Absence' can get a little repetetive, especially drum-wise, but this has something new to offer in every song.
I just wish it was a little longer...or that the title track wasn't so short.
But yeah, I'm not disappointed in any way whatsoever. Since I feel it's a stronger album than 'Absence', it's most definitely a nice surprise.
Right now about 8-9/10.
So far I'm digging the new album a lot.
any links for their other albums? pls
yeah i agree its on par with about an 8/10. some forgettable/skippable songs. but Threshold of Transformation is really good. 20 Minutes/40 Years and Hall of the Dead are epic.
yeah this is some fine ass quality piece of music
I have listened to the first three songs off the new record and I'll agree it is on par with oceanic in awesomeness. Will listen to the rest tomorrow while on my way to work. I'll give it so far a 8.5/10

much thx bro!
Just got done listening to the album for the 5th time and it is GREAT! Everything that I expected/wanted and more. I will def. be buying this on vinyl and cd when it comes out.
I love Oceanic and it was once one of the albums I listened to the most. I saw them around that time and it's one of the most intense concerts I've been to. but after that Isis kinda slipped out of my radar and I haven't bothered listening to their recent material. gonna have to check the new album out now that I've heard such good things about it, and hopefully rediscover Isis with it.
I love Wavering Radiant more and more. i literally haven't been listening to anything else the last 3 days. Incredible album. I think I'm gonna take a break from it soon, then buy it when it's released.
Yeah me too. I am gonna put my pre-order for WR. Hall of Dead has to be one of the greatest Isis songs.
Def. don't wanna burn myself out on the album yet hahaha i too have been listening to it straight for about 15 hours. Its a SERIOUS grower, some of the textures are incredible. 'Hall of the dead', 'Hand of the host' and 'Stone to wake a serpent' are the stand out tracks thus far but the whole album is just mind blowing. Ive yet to figure out what 2 songs adam jones performs on though.
I'm gonna be the odd one out here and say I'm not really enjoying the new album that much... I don't know why just yet, but I feel there is something lacking. I will definitely buy the album when it's released and have a good listen to it but first impressions aren't all that. I hope I'm wrong...
No worries starz, sometimes it just takes repeated listens and sometimes you just plain wont like it. The first and second time i listened to it I thought it was all over the place and couldn't really grab onto anything but after about 5 listens it starts to show its beauty. Its alot rawer (?) than ITAOT and def. different that any other offering. Kinda reminds me of 'Oceanic' in some spots and the vocals are more up front on this album which I like alot.
The thing that's really sticking out for me this time around is the drumming. It just seems so much punchier and creative on this record than it has on their previous stuff.
Overall I'm not digging it all that much, but then ITAOT took repeated listens to click with me so I haven't given up yet.
Stupid question, but any good link to preorder Wavering Radiant please ? Thanks
I believe bluecollardistro.com will have the vinyl available soon. I know the vinyl is set to be released april 21st and the cd is set to be released may 5th.
I was talking more about the cd cause I unfortunately cannot play vinyls at home... I checked amazon, and it's $33 + shopping fee which is hell high for me seeing I live in Asia... So I was just wondering if I could come across a better deal somewhere....

Only in Europe it seems yes... Too bad... :-\
Thanks vm anyway for your help dude... :)
I can get the album from Play, and then send it your way, and you can paypal or whatever me the total sum...if when I know what that'll be it's not too high or anything, but a possibility?
It's OK, I'll just buy it at HMV here when it goes out man, no problem... But thanks very much for the offer my friend, it's very kind of you... :)

it took me several repeats as well, but it was totally worth it. I'm not sure if I like it more than their previous works, but it is definitely a grower.
I feel I can honestly say that this is probably their strongest work yet. It just feels so complete. Every track is amazing.
Panopticon still remains my personal favorite, but this comes right behind it.
This is how I'd rank the albums:
Panopticon
Wavering Radiant
Oceanic
in the Absence of Truth
Celestial
Let it be said that I, in no way, feel that Oceanic is weaker than the two above. I just enjoy Panopticon and WR more.
YOU FUCKING BASTARD!!!!
just kidding. I see where you're coming from.
I'd say
Panopticon
Oceanic
Wavering Radiant
In the Absence Of Truth
Sgnl 5
Celestial

HA! thanks for the compliment, I think lol just joshing man. The album is def. a grower, listen to it LOUD on a good set of speakers. The bass is rediculous.
the main point now is not to let it bore you before official release
most people here like both bands and in my opinion so far these are the 2 of the best 3 albums of '09(with new Lamb of God being thrown in there as well).....
which album is better? new Mastodon or new Isis?
Crack the Skye is incredible, but right now every single time I listen to Wavering Radiant it grows on me even more.
Gonna have my first listen to Crack the Skye tomorrow when it pops into my mailbox. W00t!! Can't wait.
And yeah, Wavering Radiant is a constant grower.
Wavering Radient sounds really good to me and did so from the first listen. Nice to hear they're back to their old, amazing self.
my computer was broken for a lil while, so i'm just getting my hands on this. i'm totally feelin it so far, as i expected. i love isis.
Although the New mastodon record is amazing, I think 'Wavering Radiant' is incredible. SERIOUS grower, the riff in 'Hand of the host' (track 3) is stellar! It's going to be hard not to play this album ALOT, I'm trying not to burn myself out on it but I can't help but play it everytime I smoke some greeeeeen.

Wavering Radiant is a stupid song..seems like it's only there for the sake of it.....why is there always one or two short interlude songs like this on most post metal records?!.....
CoL are one of the few bands that can actually pull it off.

exactly. i skip it everytime.. they tried to make a concept or a mystery of it. failed.
im not sure i dig this
Damn, adam jones plays on "Hall of the dead" and "wavering radiant"??? I could have sworn that he was on track 3 ("Hand of the host") and possibly the last track but I guess im slacking in my old age. :-\
I was positive that he played on Threshold of Transformation. Some of the guitar lines are very Tool-esque.
I deleted Wavering Radiant from my PC. I'm gonna take a break from it until it gets released.
:D
hopefully they will confirm some shows soon.
has adam jones ever directed a video for them? if not, he totally should for their new single. that would be the tits. i really really like this album, i've just been wanting new isis for so long and then they come out with this monster, it's wonderful.
it's hard for me to pick a favorite song yet but i totally love ghost key, something about the beginning of it just blew me away when i first heard it.

vocals are horrible, cant understand a word he says sounds like my drunk uncle after he gets hit in the nuts
Apparently there's a bonus track on the Japanese release called "Way Through Woven Branches".
I would be forever grateful if anyone could find that track!
Interesting!
Just finished reading "page 4" (the second Turner page). very cool. I have the same sort of thing when I quit smoking weed for a week or so, my dreams get more intense and shit. :o

thank you very very much!
No problem.
I can see why they left it out...it's not a bad song, just far from the epicness of the other songs on WR.
Thanks
I'm not really fond of these guys. Well, i wasn't until today when i heard the new album. They've matured musically from what I've heard earlier.

Yes I am buying this album as soon as I get paid. Even though I already downloaded it, and the bonus track as well. It is my destiny to buy this.

I just realized that I wont be seeing ISIS at Roskilde Festival. ISIS goes on stage 4PM. Faith No More goes on stage 5PM...and I need to be in line at least an hour before the FNM show begins.
Crap... :(
Just bought Wavering Radiant

Awesome! Thanks.
The fact that Wavering Radiant is based on theories by Carl Jung makes it that much better.
Yo Benji, could you upload that 02 live album?
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=IZ8O3BDY
definitely the best live album of the four. professionally recorded, amazing quality...great songs from both celestial and oceanic.
though i hear the upcoming live album is quality as well....and it's the entire Oceanic album played. I'm not sure if it's the one that Tim Hecker is adding atmosphere too.
Awesome, thanks a bunch.

nah, this album is supposed to be mixed by Justin Broadrick, and he also plays on Weight.
i doubt the Tim Hecker Split will ever be released...

i saw them yesterday. I enjoyed it alot, and i'm not really a big fan. Dälek was a really pleasant surprise too.
the gig was awesome! pretty short though, they could've easily played 2-3 additional songs.
I had no idea Dälek was opening for them so that was a nice surprise.

ISIS has reached an end. It's hard to try to say it in any delicate way, and it is a truth that is best spoken plainly. This end isn't something that occurred over night and it hasn't been brought about by a single cataclysmic fracture in the band. Simply put, ISIS has done everything we wanted to do, said everything we wanted to say. In the interest of preserving the love we have of this band, for each other, for the music made and for all the people who have continually supported us, it is time to bring it to a close. We've seen too many bands push past the point of a dignified death and we all promised one another early on in the life of the band that we would do our best to ensure ISIS would never fall victim to that syndrome. We've had a much longer run than we ever expected we would and accomplished a great deal more than we ever imagined possible. We never set any specific goals when the band was founded other than to make the music we wanted to hear and to play (and to stay true to that ideal), so everything else that has come along the long and winding path has been an absolute gift. As with any momentous life-changing decision (which this certainly is for the 5 of us), we feel a very dynamic range of emotions about this and cannot express all of it within the space of a few sentences, and perhaps it's best to do what we've always done in and let our music speak for us. It is and has been the truest expression of who we are as a collective and in some ways who we are as individuals for the 13 years in which we've been together. The last and perhaps most important thing we might say in relation to all this is how grateful we are for the people that have supported us over the years. It is a lengthy list that would include those who put out our records, those that played on them and put them to tape, the many bands with whom we shared the stage, all of our family, friends and companions who supported us in our individual lives and thus made it possible for us to continue on in the band, and most importantly those who truly listened to our music whether in recorded form or by coming to out to our shows (or both). It is quite true that we would never have done what we have without those people, that is many of you who are reading this. Our words can never fully express what we feel, but we hope that our music and the efforts made to bring it into being can serve as a more proper expression of gratitude for this life and for everyone in it. Thank you.
In more immediate and practical terms the tour we are about to embark upon is indeed our last. We are hoping that these final live rituals can help us bring a close to the life of this band in a celebratory and reverent way, and also provide us with a chance to say goodbye to many of those that have supported us over the years. While there is a measure of sadness that comes with the passing of this band, we hope that the final days can be joyous ones during which any and all that wish to come and join us will do so. It seems fitting that the last show of the tour and of our active existence will take place in Montreal, the site of the very first ISIS show in 1997 (though that was an unintentional move when booking the show initially). After the tour we also plan to follow through with other projects set in motion some time ago - pursuing the completion of a final EP, compiling live audio and visual material for future releases, and generally doing whatever we can to make our music available for as long as there are people who wish to hear it.
Thanks again to any and all,
ISIS, May 18, 2010

Well.
FUCK.
Miss them once (or twice perhaps?) touring through the country and it winds up being the last chance.
DAMMIT.
But alas, it was solid good run and it was amazing; on record, on stage, on paper (ie press) and such.
Good band, good music.
What a shame, just saw the news on Pitchfork....I got to see them open for Tool a while back and they were great. Unfortunately there were plenty of Isis shows I could have attended and didn't..... bummer.
I wonder what Turner will focus on now. Twilight? Lotus Eaters? Nothing?
That is saddening, they made some of the best music of the '00s...

I've listened through whole 'In the Absence of Truth'.
Well, first of all, I don't yet feel the overall feeling of whole album, it does seem a little detached for me personally. I was highly confused by the first two songs, cause I did not really fully understand what was going on, but then the awesome 'Dulcinea' kinda soothed me back into feeling okay about the album. Musically it is great and fits the Isis profile in my eyes, though 'Wavering Radiant' is a little more "out there", or this album has to yet grow on me - not entirely sure. Then after 'Dulcinea' most of the songs seemed memorable in a way - for example, '1000 Shards' or 'Firdous E Bareen' (which is lovely to listen to - it's in a way more experimental than everything else on this album. well, maybe except the random noises and all that), they seem to have memorable soundscapes and all the movements and all.
I'm not entirely sure about the mixing and mastering though - I personally think the album COULD have had a more "soft" mastering, but I guess it does not annoy me too much (only at some random times), so generally it is okay.
Next stop - 'Panopticon'.
Sucks so bad... Never got to see them... *sigh*.... But the did go out with a bang; wavering radiant was by far their best... Panopticon following behind
Really want to see them live but their last show on the west coast is sold out, and I'm not sure I can overcome my laziness and show up there to try find tickets.
Really sad, as they are probably my favorite band, but I can respect wanting to get out before their albums started getting bad.

Speaking of "interesting": that site doesn't list the James Plotkin remix of "The Other" on the ISIS - Oceanic Remixes - Reinterpretations (it should be listed as track 4, the DJ Speedranch remix of "Carry" is also listed as track #4 in the .rar folder, so I see where the possible dyslexic confusion happened), but the track IS included in the .rar folder, so it's all good then. ;D
anyway, good post you have there, mucho kudos

To be honest, Panopticon is my personal fave.
Dunno if it's because it's the first one I heard - but it just seems to pack the most punch to me.
Love Oceanic and Wavering Radiant, but Panopticon is the business.
By the way, if anyone's in the know - is the remix album worth getting a hold of?

I promise you I will, I just need some time. I don't want to put my mind on too much material from one band at the same time - that way the "extra" material will seem less good. :0
"Panopticon"
I'm not sure what is it with it, but Isis' album intros leave me confused. Maybe because there are no post-music-ish slow long feedbacking intros or something, but, lets say as with 'So Did We', I am listening to the song and not really quite getting into it. But after some time things get back on track, the song transforms into an instrumental bliss, boom - 'Backlit', and the hopes for a better album mixing/mastering are saved. Not sure if I like "growling-only" vocals, but since I am almost completely used to them - things are alright.
And then - swoosh, into 'In Fiction', whose live version I have already heard - but it is blissful how this song continues the albums saga within musically and emotionally, throughout 9 minutes transforming the silence back into 'Backlit' theme. Pure greatness. Mesmerizing melodies and lovely crescendo! I'm not sure why, but this song reminds me of 'Weight'. By this song the album launches you into space, generally - cause I could say tracks 1 and 2 are pretty much like a "take off" moment.
I did not expect the song to flow directly into 'Wills Dissolve', an almost ambient-mood-changer, into the sinister, a sudden twist in the songs finale, and boom, we're off to 'Syndic Calls', again, continuing the musical landscape. Which is great - I enjoy albums that are inter-connected through songs. Great concept. I should notice that throughout the album I can feel a transition from melancholic/depressive atmosphere to destructive/anger/depressive atmosphere and then back again. Well, at least up to this song, when the song suddenly shifts to "hopeful", which is ALWAYS a nice transition.
I should say, the second half of 'Syndic Calls' is my second favorite section in 'Panopticon' along with 'In Fiction'. 'Altered Course' seems more like a mood transition in this album. It's like a prelude to itself, a great song, but in the album's context it does seem a little lost. And here we are - the finale, 'Grinning Mouths'. I am a person who expects a lot from album intro's and finales, and at this point Isis seemed to kinda disappoint me when it came to intros, but never when it came to the album finales.
I was a little put off by the songs intro, but then once again things swelled into something completely different. And there again, explosions, noise, distortion, a great finale, the album's away.
overall, I should notice that artistically and composition-ally this album is as great as the others, maybe even greater, but the production and performance in this album are slightly different, a little less professional - well at least in my eyes (when it comes to singing, of course). Is it just me, or this album is a lot more instrumental than the other ones? Also, the album - for me personally - had the moments where you'd guess what would happen further, but in a good way.
At this point,
Wavering Radiant > Panopticon
Wavering Radiant > In Absence of Truth
Panopticon ? In Absence of Truth
Nice review.
It's funny, 'cause the first 3 songs on Panopticon are actually my favorites.
'Backlit' and 'In Fiction' are definitely the diamonds of this album but I am just no sure about 'So Did We'.
It takes time - what do I expect from the first listen :)

I cannot say I liked Oceanic. It was way too destructive in a rough raw way. I enjoy the atmosphere more. The songwriting is indeed good, but the overall style of that album.. nope, not my cup of tea. And I haven't yet stepped into Celestial, no :)
Oh if you think Oceanic was too rough, then you're definitely not gonna like Celestial, hehe.

I might have to second this rating. Fuck, Oceanic just moves me so much and Panopticon has some of the most intense mood evoking tracks ever. Wavering is astounding. There are so many amazing moods coursing through that album. The evolution of "Hall of The Dead" alone is worth the price of admission while "Ghost Key" immediately seals the deal of extravagance. I don't know. I'm so ecstatic about this band its crazy. The Red Sea EP and The Mosquito Control EP are just sick. Seriously amazing catalog these guys have put out. Shame they're calling it a day.
I'm being destroyed by Isis right now.

'Deconstructing Towers' just kills me everytime. It's proper evil.
Sorry, I didn't read the thread.
Check out 'The Red Sea' EP. It's proper heavy as well.
I managed to get one of the limited vinyl of it (233 in Pink) so definitely gonna hang onto it for a few years!

I love the album, but Oceanic, Panopticon and Wavering Radiant are much better.
Yeah, my thoughts exactly.
I love Absence... :(

New ISIS release in the works per their facebook.
Didn't they break up or something?
they did indeed.
Ex-Isis drummer Aaron Harris has confirmed via Twitter that a new posthumous release from the band is in the pipeline. Before you get your hopes up however he has clarified that it will not be a new studio album.
A recent posting in regards to the project on the bands Facebook reads as follows:
"This not a new studio album, but is a new record with previously unreleased material. Just to be clear. Thanks everyone!"
It's quite possible that the outing could be a previously-mentioned EP which will sport "Wavering Radiant" b-sides and more — though that has yet to be confirmed.
Stoked nonetheless
QuoteHello and happy new year. We hope it's off to a great start for everyone. We have a few things in the works that we'd like to talk about. Some of you may have seen our Facebook post about a new release in the works. As you may have guessed this is Live VI. It will be released digitally on Feb 14, 2012 and on limited double vinyl through our web-store soon after. This is a multi track recording from our 10 year anniversary tour. It was performed at the Hawthorne Theater in Portland, OR in 2007. The sound quality is great as it was recorded and mixed by Aaron Harris, and mastered by James Plotkin. The track listing for Live VI is:
1. Hive Destruction
2. So Did We
3. Not In Rivers, But In Drops
4. Gentle Time
5. In Fiction
6. Holy Tears
7. Weight (featuring Ayal and Maria from 27)
8. Red Sea
9. Carry (featuring Maria from 27)
You can pre order Live VI on iTunes, and listen to track previews by going here http://itunes.apple.com/us/preorder/live-vi-11-16-2007/id498322399 (http://itunes.apple.com/us/preorder/live-vi-11-16-2007/id498322399)
Also we are compiling some material for a new CD of B-sides, demos, alternate versions, and other unreleased tracks, AND a DVD containing all of our videos in HD, along with an unreleased video for the track "Piable Foe" previously released on our split 12" with the Melvins. That's our story and we're sticking to it. Thanks!
Excited about the b-sides album!
FUCK YEAH
leaked..
QuoteIpecac Recordings will issue Temporal, a retrospective collection of unreleased ISIS rarities, remixes and videos this November.
Temporal spans the seminal band's entire discography with inclusions from Mosquito Control to the band's final full-length, Wavering Radiant.
Aaron Harris comments on the release: "It was fun and also very nostalgic collecting material for this release. I hear our catalogue differently now that I'm not living with these songs day to day. This is a special collection of outtakes, demos, unreleased tracks and videos, some of which I think we even forgot about."
Wuhuu!

I'm buying the shit out of this.
20 Minutes/40 Years acoustic? Whaaaat. Sounds crazy.
Please answer one question for me, or offer your ideas.
What makes ISIS to stand out so much in the whole post-metal scene?
How do they make metal sound.. like not metal? Like something else, hypnotic monolith. I think some of you know what I mean in the back of my head.

20 Minutes / 40 Years
I don't know i guess they just do it better than other groups I love all the layers and they use range of tone really well they'll have like an emotional heavy riff just pounding away and they put something higher and sweeter on top like a piano or just higher guitar
Anyone checked out Temporal yet?
I'm loving it. I think I might like the demo versions of the previously released songs better than the original ones. Especially the demo of Ghost Key. So good. And the acoustic version of 20 Minutes/40 Years is jizz worthy.
Fuck, I miss this band! :(
the acoustic 20 Minutes/40 Years is quite wonderful.
I can see myself listening to this track more and more. Those chords and melodies..
Just bought it,fucking wonderful.20 minutes/40 years is awesome.glad they emptied the vault, loving that godflesh cover to.I guess that's the end of the legacy.fucking sucks,I got into these guys late, like a month befor they broke up.

This version of Ghost Key is fkn awesome.
Finally bought it about 2 days ago, nearly a month after it came out lol...
Loving it :D
The cashier at the HMV in the local mall where I bought it even said "Good choice"!
Anyways, do y'all know about how Ipecac's offering the (5) bonus tracks that were supposed to be for the non-working "download code" for free in a downloadable .zip folder on their website?
Been listening to a lot of ISIS lately. Miss this band.
Does anyone know what the bandmembers are now up to (Palms aside)? Thanks.
EDIT: FINAAAAALLY ordered 'Wavering Radiant' and 'Temporal'. Still broke but fuck it.
