oh man i seriously just saw this on another site a couple minutes ago. i cannot wait for this. Gone Baby Gone and Mystic River were both great flicks and the fact that this one's got Scorsese makes it potentially even better.

this and The Road are basically the 2 movies I'm looking forward to that could be Oscar-contenders this year.

looks promising. I'm gay for leo these days, he always ends up in good movies, may have something to do with the fact that so many of them are scorcese's films.

Yea, this film has caught my interest for a while.  Should be a good time.  You can tell from his whole body of work that Martin loves indulging in the disturbing...it just took him a while to go all-out. 

I knew about this movie a while ago (Thanks IMDB) but had some doubts.... Then i saw the trailer. (Doubts gone) Looks fucking amazing!

I fucking hate watching trailers though. they ruin so much. we already know the plot and at least one major plot twist by now.

"Shutter Island", the thriller mystery from Academy Award-winning director Martin Scorsese, is no longer among the Paramount Pictures' 2009 line-up. In a surprising move, the studio announced on Friday, August 21, that the theatrical release date of the movie has been pushed back from October 2, 2009 to February 19, 2010.

As speculations over the move built up, Paramount Pictures Chairman and CEO Brad Grey came up with an official statement. "Our 2009 slate was greenlit in a very different economic climate and as a result we must remain flexible and willing to recalibrate and adapt to a changing environment," so the studio topper reasoned.

"Leonardo DiCaprio is among the most talented actors working today, and Martin Scorsese is not just one of the world's most significant filmmakers, but also a personal friend," he continued explaining. "Following a highly successful 2009, we have every confidence that 'Shutter Island' is a great anchor to lead off our 2010 slate and the shift in date is the best decision for the film, the studio and ultimately Viacom."
With "Shutter Island" out of the 2009 slate, Paramount will only have one movie to be presented this fall. The studio will release Peter Jackson's "The Lovely Bones" on December 11. Paramount's decision to move "Shutter" prompted Fox Searchlight to immediately slid Drew Barrymore-directed film "Whip It!" to the October 2 slot.
Based on Dennis Lehane's 2003 novel, "Shutter Island" tells the story of two U.S. marshals, Teddy Daniels and Chuck Aule. The two are summoned to a remote and barren island off the cost of Massachusetts to investigate the mysterious disappearance of a murderess from the island's fortress-like hospital for the criminally insane.
The script was provided by "Alexander" screenwriter Laeta Kalogridis. In addition to Leonardo DiCaprio, the cast ensemble consist of Mark Ruffalo, Michelle Williams, Ben Kingsley, Emily Mortimer, Max von Sydow, Jackie Earle Haley and Patricia Clarkson.

what the fuck? I just saw the trailer again last night in front of Inglourious Basteds, and it said october. unbelieveable. Not that it really matters, but this also kills any Oscar chances it has for 2010. I just really don't get why you would move a project involving Lehane, Scorcese, and DiCaprio to the new year.

And to give Drew Barrymore their slot? just wow.

Saw it last night and I tought it was pretty great tough my GF was a pain in the ass and hate it 

does she normally like horror movies? because my special lady dislikes the horror, but i wanna drag her to this.

It's not really that much of a horror movie.  Except for maybe 20 minutes, it's really not too scary.  Definitely more of a psychological thriller. 

This was a very entertaining movie.  Certainly not Scorcesse's best but it's still a hell of a lot better than what else is out there.  I was initially let down by the ending but the more I thought about it the more I liked it.

I thought this movie was absolutely incredible. It blew me a away.

Leo was fucking amazing. Wow, what a performance. The last 15 minutes tore my heart out and smashed it with a sledgehammer.

But yeah, as defskull said; it's not a horror movie, but it's definitely creepy and the overall atmosphere is pretty damn unnerving. I'd call it more a psychological drama.

Make sure to NOT read any in depth reviews. It'll only spoil it, I'm sure.
