Does anyone know what he uses for each cd? Adrenaline I know is standard/drop D and ATF is half step lower, but after that I'm just not sure! I'd like to cover more Deftones songs. Also, does he use 7 or 8 string guitars on any cd?

Thanks :)

In future use dat search bar!

White Pony is Drop C
S/T is G# standard on a 7 string
SNW is Drop F# on an 8 string
DE is F# standard on an 8 string

i always thought he used a 7 string on SNW. the 8 string is new to DE.

Yeah you're right man. I remember him saying he got on when he heard  Meshuggah were using 8 strings in 2008 on ObZen.

No drop D at all? I've seen multiple tabs for Bored being in drop D but in some covers I've seen they are playing it completely different. Anyone here play guitar and know what Steph is playing exactly?

it's in standard tuning. i've always played it in drop d though because that's how it sounds better to me.

No drop D at all.

its all standard.. he doesn't play the standard power chord on bored, he just uses his pinky on the third string, while barring the other two strings, two notes up... so it would be

D --7--
A --5--
E --5--

makes it sound heavier

So whats half step down to F# since thats what he'll probably use next
or maybe G# if thats even possible on the 8-string. Im not very familiar with tunings

Stef - Tunings - Low to High

                                            8.    7.    6.    5.    4.   3.    2.   1.

Adrenaline:                                       E    A    D    G    B    E

Around The Fur:                              C#  G# C#  F#  A#  D#

White Pony:                                      C    G    C    F    A    D

Deftones:                                  G#  C#  F#  B    E    G# C#

Saturday Night Wrist:              F#  C#  F#  B    E    G# C#

Diamond Eyes:                 F#   B    E    A    D    G    B    E

Adrenaline is 100% E-standard, I've seen Stef live. ATF has two exceptions: Mascara and Dai The Flu. They are both in standard, but a helf step down which would be this: D# G# C# F# A# D#. The rest of ATF is Drop C#. WP is all Drop C.

These three albums were all recorded with 6-string guitars. When Stef got his first 7-string-guitars, he started to play those
songs on 7's live. He takes the low b-string out and adds an extra high e-string. He does this, because his hands got used to the feel of a seven-string guitar. S/T and SNW are the only albums, where he plays 7's on. Both got one tuning-exception: Needles And Pins for S/T and Beware for SNW. Beware is in standard G# 7-string-tuning like everything of S/T. I heard Needles And Pins is played with a bass-string (or even played on a bass?) but I don't really know about that.

As far as I know DE is all standard 8-string-tuning (F#) but I'm not so familiar with that album as with the others. Funny how Stef has problems with switching from 6 to 7 strings but no issues with switching from 7 to 8 strings :) That guy got m0nster handz

Yeah soon we may start hearing the older songs on the 8 string if he cant adjust to the change

steph plays a heavily distorted bass live on this song.

chino plays drop d on hole in the earth. not so sure about steph's tuning there. i just assumed he played it in drop d as well. in live performances, when he plays the riff high up on the neck his finger placement looks about right for standard tuning.
