Puscifer (Maynard's other project)

As most of you should know by now Puscifer is Maynard's latest project that really took off in the last few years..

"V is for Vagina" was the first EP from 2007 and i thought it was decent. I mean it's not tool or a perfect circle or anything, but it was still good enough for me to dig it and see them a couple times on their first tour in 09. Then again I guess I would like anything Maynard does, even though I've lost a lot of respect for him as a person. The live shows, as with Tool, are what is really special to me with this band. It is really more of a "show" than a rock concert. They do little skits between songs (like maynard entering the stage on a segway wearing a little gay outfit with "Jesus" written on his ass in glitter, as seen here:
.
The shows were funny in the sense that you got to see maynard performing in the spot light and do shit he would never do on stage with his other bands. Instead of having a shitty band open for them, comedian Neil Hamburger would do some stand up. And each show was different, they had different skits and versions of songs they would do.

Which is another cool thing about them, the fact that he has a bunch of remixes for each track, and there is no real "original". I've always wanted to do something along those lines and now that I've seen Puscifer get away with it I might do something similar with my music.

I decided to make a thread because I'm surprised there isn't one already, and because their new album "Conditions of my Parole" is to be released October 18. As of today you can hear track samples on Amazon.com (http://www.amazon.com/Conditions-of-My-Parole/dp/B005M92MJ6/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1315693963&sr=8-3) and in my opinion it sounds better than "V is for Vagina".

So who else knows or likes this band? They're probably not the most popular (or best) band in the world, I think.  ;)

I like Puscifer, not a huge fan but I like it. Great music to fuck to, lots of sexual innuendo.

Love Maynard, love puscifer but that new song man overboard is a steaming pile of anal juice hangover shit. Its boring as fuck, maynard sounds like he's barely even trying and the music itself is just ho-hum the whole way through. It's fucking garbage and I'm debating weather I'll even bother listening to the rest of the album. I never thought Maynard would release something so mediocre.

theory

Puscifer is ...okay.  This is purely Maynard's band, and we get to see his true self, I suppose, so it has that going for it.  Tool is Adam Jones' band, as you'll hear the guitarist say in interviews. He is pretty much the creative brains behind the operation (being an artist helps, too).  Then, with APC, you saw a lot of Billy Howerdel's mind there... I'm not putting down Maynard, he's a great vocalist and lyricist (one of the best IMHO) I just think he can do better...

I suppose I will agree with most people here when they say it's mediocre...but we'll see with this new album...

Puscifer is the greatest exposition of music, comedy and intellectualism all wrapped into a neat little burrito. I'm glad I could experience it in my life time.

Never really been able to get into Puscifer properly. I get...bored. However, Potions, The Mission and (especially) Rev 22:20, are some of my favorite songs, like, ever. I can listen to them forever and not be bored.

Listen to V is for Viagra Remixes, and especially listen to Conditions of My Parole if you haven't.  That album has so much deep, layered meaning.

Yeah, Conditions of my Parole is great. Check out the title track, Horizons, and maybe the Weaver. Good shit, indeed. I wasn't able to catch them on their latest tour unfortunately. The live shows are great, though. Lots of Tim & Eric videos but with Puscifer related shit haha.

When the two soundtrack songs were released (rev 22.20 and, the other one escapes me...?) I was massively pumped for the release of the debut - however, these two tracks were "remixed" on the album, and the new versions were very disappointing (imo).

That whole album (V) bored the shit out of me - and the rest of Puscifer's releases have not done a whole lot to get me back on board.

I saw them for the first time last month.  They're amazing.  Hands down the most insightful and introspective show I've ever been to.  I left that place feeling like a different person.

I totally agree man. The shows are so different than your typical metal show. They put a new perspective on me for how to present a show.

i really enjoy the new puscifer album. oceans is my favorite track.  from beginning to end it has a very nice flow. its nothing like v is for vagina, and i think thats a good thing, even though i enjoyed that album too.

contrary to the other comment i made in this thread, conditions of my parole is excellent. man overboard still sucks but i'm over it.

deftoolsys07

Man Overboard was totally the least favorite track of mine on the album. It would fit perfectly with V is for Vagina though. Another good track is Polar Bear from the C is for Insert Sophomoric Genitalia Reference EP... They played that on their first tour, don't know about the recent one...
