Yeah, going from TDS to The Fragile,it took what...6 years. The Fragile was perfection. It went from amazing (tds) to perfection (tf). Now it's kinda mediocre. I mean,I like it,but I just don't see Trent putting out many more albums. It's kinda sad. And he's letting politics take over his music too much now.

He'll be around in music forever, producing for many people, but I think since the drugs are gone,so is the angst of the music.

White Wrist

i am fan since WT too. I´m in subliminal position. But i dont believe that, kelly. Trent looks fine to me. And i guess he is with "power". Yeah, the politics are in his music..but just because of year zero. I consider Y0 like a "different" album, so, i´am not worried about that. I love the Personal NIN stuff, that we can transport for ourselves. But Y0 it´s like a break in that. I believe Trent will make more music, more personal music, with more intense lyrics. I am loving the album. And i didn´t like it at first. I miss the piano and the guitar with more importance in a album. But...like i said, i see Y0 like something strange and that only Trent can do.

Awitha Teetha was pretty political (The Hand That Feeds,Right Where It Belongs),and alot about his drug use (sunspots). Yeah,he might make 1 or 2 more albums, but I just dont know...I dont think it's in him anymore.

I've been a fan since Pretty Hate Machine, and with each album it got better and better...I just dont get the feeling from these past 2 albums.

But like I said,I like them,I do. With Teeth had a few great songs on it (love is not enough, ediets, with teeth, the line begins to blur, beside you in time, right where it belongs, home),but like with TDS,I love every fucking song on that album...same with PHM,Broken, and The Fragile.

I just miss angry Trent in fishnets and shorts with long hair molesting Robin Finck.

White Wrist

i understand your point of view.

but i really can make my interpretation of The hand that f. and RWIB. Something that is more weird with y0. Like the beg. of the end. it´s all politics. I like it. I bet that Trent will surprise you, Kelly. He makes music just just just for you ;D

Malpractice

i listened to the album in it's entirety today and i was pretty underwhelmed. i am not saying it was bad but it definetly wasn't some amazing return to form that people have been saying it is. i also don't see how this is better than with teeth but i still don't understand why with teeth is considered bad in the first place. these were the tracks that stuck out to me when i listened to it "vessel", "capital g", and "the great destroyer". i am sure it will grow on me eventually though. props for the thermocromatic cd though.

See the problem with this is that he's getting older now and he is totally over that S&M phase. We just have to live with it, like chino getting tubbers. :-)
..Yeah don't go there,

I let you get to me

yeah yeah.

It happens with every band though, They all grow up and get over it.

What we see now from all our favourite singers/bands is what their life is all about, Just like it was back then. Everyone misses the ATF Chino, Everyone misses the Broken Trent, Everyone misses the JD from the KoRn/Life Is Peachy days etc.

I personally still think Trent is writing amazing music, Just it isn't about himself anymore because we've heard all we can hear about him and his troubles..

Eventually it just gets old and boring otherwise, Like JD (KoRn) singing about his pain and shit in Take A Look In The Mirror not so long ago and it's FFS your a fully grown man with a family, Grow up man. Which he now has anyway..and has to get song writers in with now because he don't know how to write anything else.

But i'm a lucky NIN fan, Cause i fell in love with theWith Teeth Trent and all the old stuff is like the major icing on the cake for me.

I think we can an expect a few more albums from him though, The thing i love about this whole political thing is he's showing he's not a selfish man, He does care about other things than himself and he's going out of his way to do alot of shit for the fans.

Yeah I agree.

To me it just appears Trent has both grown and matured while also realizing that his life ain't actually to bad anymore. Not to mention he must of grown tired of writing from a purely angst standpoint

To be honest one tends to become slightly sceptical of such artistic motivations after so long and personally it aggravates me if an artist stays on that one path of expression. In a way it falsifies the power or lyrical intent.

Hearing a mature adult who's been hugely successful write material which consistantly deals with how shit their outlook on life is does'nt really cut it after a while (aka Korn).

It's great to see Trent is mature enough as a person and artist to express himself in other ways.As a fan it's even better.

I fucking hate that song, but love the video. It's cool to see how it was made too.

Chrisbo

You hate it? I must admit I am tired of it. It gets played far too much. Whenever I'm about and NIN is on the jukebox I always shove 'Ruiner' or 'Heresy' on to show people that there is actually other quality NIN songs on.

A few of the songs I wasnt so sure of on Year Zero are starting to grow on me. 'Me, I'm Not' is still the champion though. I wish 'HYPERPOWER!' was longer and not an intro though, easily could have done something more with it. But alas not.

Oh and Liam, NIN supporting Foo's is definitely happening. It's up on the official NIN page. It is quite crazy, but fucking great!

Yeah...it's just like a "fan girl" song. haha

But yeah....Me,I'm not to me,is the strongest song on the album.

And Liam, did you ever get on the Spiral??

Subliminal

No Kelly, I'm still locked on the outside of the Spiral club  :( I will find a way in though haha, I'll have to find a different method or contact them about it.

Exactly, Couldn't of said it any better.

And on a side note to KoRn, It wasn't long ago that Jonathan Davis was rolling about on the stage like an idiot during My Gift To You acting like he's really pissed at the world still and i mean the time he did it at Woodstock for the first time was like.

''woa, he's really lost in the music, this is actually quite an emotional thing for him''

Now if he does it, He looks ridiculous and it's obvious he's just doing it cause the fans want to see it. Atleast, We did untill he grew up and got sober.

With Trent he still has that intensity live and i love it, His emotions still pour through but he definetely set his charismatic approach to real life levels, Since he knows how far he can push it now..

The man truly is a living legend.

Oh man, Everytime you post about an upcoming show, I always want to cry... why is that!?! :D

Sleep

You see, the beauty of this album is that Trent has always had existentialism laced within his lyrics.

I've always considered him an existentialist.  According to Jean-Paul Sartre who kind of pioneered the philosophy, the greatest means by which to live authentically (that is in accordance to your own freedom - without denying your choice) is to take part in socialism and human liberation.

Existentialism, basically defines the world as nothing, and the universe as nothing (ie. 'nothing records') and states that we as conscious humans have free will (which refutes determinism and creationism ("god is dead")).  The only means by which MEANING exists in the world (because it is essentially meaningless) is through individual choice.  In other words, people create their own meanings in life.  So Sartre was stating that the "highest potential" of meaning is to aid in the freedom of OTHERS.  Trent has always stayed along this philosophy lyrically, and I find it really interesting that now he is not only living via his own meaning, but encouraging it in others.  Through art he is aiding in creating awareness through others, Year Zero is particularily successful in this.  I think his albums will get more and more political as time goes on.

His best work yet IM0.

I'm still not digging this whole album. :( Hopefully live it will be better.

skinnypuppy

I'm in love with the whole album. This is definitely one of NIN's best CDs.

Capital G is a fucking awesome song! Well done Trent, another shockingly good album.
