At this point, not releasing a single on the 10th would be weird and off.

There are no real hard dates for single releases. Album releases will always happen on a Friday.

(...) Currently, UK releases come on a Monday, with US releases following a day later. From now on, new albums and singles will be released at 00:01 on Fridays. (...)

I think there's definitely a hard date for singles.

I get that people are expecting this to be a single, but the announced date doesn't actually line up. Deftones being Deftones, they could do something totally off the usual path, but with the way they've handled things in the past, if it were a single, they'd probably release it on a Friday even as a self-released track, unless they picked out July 10 for some specific reason.

And again, on TOP of that, they've teased it at a live show. I just don't see why they'd drop it on a Thursday without any online announcement so far if it were actually going to be a single.

So yeah, it's possible this isn't a single after all.

No one has posted on reddit abt rodskill and and the setlist has barely been updated??

Kept floating"

I've seen lots of bands drop singles on various days of the week over the past few months, at least.

We know that the album is out next month so a month prior for a single release, along with next week's date, does align with typical release strategies. Also, it looks like the band is self distributing.

At the very least, we'll know more in a week's time.

Also, that info is out of date. Albums come out on Fridays everywhere now.
I could float here forever

It's not the date for the album release, just a single.
Turnstile released the lasts singles one on tuesday and  another one on wednesday.

I'll be extremely confused and surprised if we don't get a single and album announcement/pre-order details next Thursday.

TwixPheonix

Its logical to me that the 10th will be the album announcement, and soon to follow on the 10th going into the 11th first single + music video. That's what happened with Ohms, announced on the 20th of august, technically single released on the same day but music video came out on august 21st. Thursday + friday.

What are people's hopes/predictions for how the new album will sound?

I know that Stef mentioned it being a continuation of Koi and Ohms but I hope it leans more towards Koi.

Really hoping for a mix of some aggressive Stef riffs and tracks that are maybe in a similar vein to Rosemary.

I think a mix of Koi and Ohms sounds perfect. As someone who loves Ohms, I hope they expand on that sound but with the more epic song writing of Koi. I all but tuned out of the internet in late 2020, so I didn't care about people's opinions of Ohms. It wasn't until maybe a year or two ago that I learned Ohms was apparently a somewhat divisive album? That came as a surprise to me as I felt Ohms was a huge step up from Gore, and the band sounded like Self Titled meets Diamond Eyes to me. I really enjoy that album, so if they wanna continue in that direction but expand on it, then that's great. But each album has its own vibe, so I'm also looking forward to something fresh and new from them and not too much retreading what they've done.

Something new, mostly. I just hope this album has a rich landscape/atmosphere like Ohms did, but only to sound more expansive when you listen. I would also want some more aggressive stuff in there like you said.

Yum yum was a placeholder name for one of the songs I think.

EDIT: Yep, it is. Yum yum could also just be Risk, fyi. Its one of the songs off of the album for sure though.

I'm hoping for a continuation of the sound from Ohms, I love how big and beefy it sounds, Gore just didn't cut the mustard for me production wise, even on a great sound system I just can't enjoy it

knifeprty976

if they dont release new music in thursday, probably july 10th will be the announcement of the first single, releasing on the next day (friday 11th), like they did with ohms!! With Ohms they announced on a Thursday too and next day Friday they released Ohms with the album announcement, probably that is it!!

If we're considering what Ohms+KNY means...

My favorite aspect of Ohms is how the songs often blended into eachother, via Frank. If they expand on this, that'd be sick. It gave that album a lot of momentum.

It would pair really well with KNYs progressive song structures.
