We name the animals off the album covers. BUT we have to name them off a song title from the album that you think represents the animal

White pony: Korea
Diamond eyes: prince
Gore: Gore
Private music: ecdysis or cXz

Having not heard the full album, it would surely be "ecdysis" right? It means shedding skin or molting.. It's the only track title that is directly a callback to the album cover.

I think the overall theme lyrically for the album might be about "shedding." Snake cover and ecdysis, Chino as well as the others sounded more introspective. As we all tend to get as we get older.

that's a great point that makes perfect sense especially in context of the interview. I think I'm just so caught off guard by the immediacy of the dangerous but beautiful white snake. But with Deftones it's never, at least usually, that surface level. Maybe self-titled album cover this little too on the nose. Beauty and death or whatever adjectives you want to use. But yes I like and believe I agree with your thoughts

One of my favorite parts of the interview was Chino explaining where the title for Private Music came from, especially after all of the berserk fan speculation. Is it a reference to an obscure 80's German record label? Or is it a reference to Eros? IS IT Eros?

Nope, it's the name of the folder he was keeping the album in on his computer. He'd probably laugh his ass off at us.

Wish I could post a pic here but I got an email from Warner music with the subject "my mind is a mountain" and when I opened it, the top of the email says "watch" so I'm thinking woah the video was released and the screen shot immediately below "watch" was a shot of The Goo Goo Dolls so I was like "wtf they got the goo goo dolls in the video?"


But it was just a link to their own video.

It just looked so misleading when the subject of the email was the song title and then I see the fucking Goo Goo Dolls lmao

I don't think they really give a fuck tbh.. If they did, I'm sure this song would not have been the single if that was their main goal. They would just write a song that sounds like Change and let that be the first single. This track feels like a proclamation that we're back doing what we do best.

But I'm with you, as a fan it would be nice to see them get a #1 chart. They just sold out their first legit stadium tour, so maybe this is the time for a #1 album.

i dont know if this is just me but i feel like this "tiktok resurgence" didn't really do much for the band overall. I mean sure they brought more fans but a lot of them were mostly attracted by the popular songs especially cherry waves and my own summer. i personally think it gave them publicity but it feels sort of superficial in a sense. not sure if i'm just crazy for thinking that.

I dunno about that. After going to one of the recent shows in March, I was shocked to see so many younger fans. There were kids with their parents, both wearing Deftones shirts. Kids of all ages from 13 to 18 plus the older fans. They've cultivated a very diverse fanbase, and their music is just timeless and has connected with a new generation. I thought it was superficial too until I went to a show and saw first hand just how many kids genuinely love this band. I'm sure some of it is superficial but I think the majority of it is genuine.

I couldnt care less about tik tok. That shit is filled with attention seek brain dead people. That being said, Im glad they are reaching all ages.
