Title: lostpilot's music (the Picturesque Episodes + KING SLEEP)
Post by: lostpilot on Dec 22, 2008, 04:35 PM
hey kids,

this is a, well, with low quality and not full band, a somewhat promotional video of our debut concert we played yesterday.

we played with two guitars, saxophone and cello, got ready with visuals, one of our friend danced for us,
created some nice atmosphere. this video collides three different songs, anyway..
I decided to share :P

full concert:

as I said, in this video there isn't one whole song, just excerpts from three different songs.

and the camera was shitty, so it only filmed the visuals, one isn't able to see me and my friend, or anything else :) that sucks of course.
I'd rather post some pictures lately, maybe then it will be understandable.

just listened to the first song. liked it.
I'm at the second one now, digging it even more.

What's the guy at the computer doing? Just controlling the images?

edit: what pedals do you use?

yeah, he's in control of the images.. I dislike him being in the center of the view here.. anyway.

and pedals.. ehm, I am using only a cheap processor, ZOOM G1, my bandmate has three pedals, reverb delay and distortion, I do not know what kind are they..

we're having our next show on jan 29, we'll try to video it too,
and there will probably be this guy that will record good quality input audio, nice. and we've got some offerings from a local label to record our debut album :) nice news

is anyone interested of the bootleg of our last show?
the quality is bearable, though it is best to listen through the headphones.

some minimalistic stuff, two guitars, bass, sax/cello and some samples.
so, if anyone is interested I could upload it.

Also had a chance to listen to Picturesque last night, quite soothing!

anyway, keep up the beautiful sounds! ;)

the footage is generally from archive.org. I just love that site, those are legal high quality archives - sounds, videos, picture, texts.. I just choose the prelinger archives and then search for some old old videos :)

thanks for the praise!

yes.
slowattack is a band I'm in, with five members (two guitars, bass, drums, saxophone/cello), we play much live, something close to post-rock..

and the Picturesque Episodes is my personal stuff. Just what I do home, recording, etc :)

edit: plus, most of the slowattack things you will find on the internet are done by me (those videos, myspace demos etc). we're not yet recording anything, just playing many shows.. (with slowattack)

hey kids,

here's a recording of our jam session in one of our city's outdoor event. there weren't too much audience, though the people that came were really nice. we just jammed two hours away, played some songs that we already played some time ago, and also created and jammed some new stuff out there.

don't be mad about quality, our mistakes (they're ought to happen when you're improvising on the spot), our drummer (he's a very shy person and was quite shocked to see that many people came to watch us so made some mistakes) and the moving sound whatsoever.

this is only half of the show, and what is typical is that our favourite songs are on the other part of the show which was not recorded. that sucks.. nonetheless I like having this record.

tracklist:
1. jam #0 - created on the spot like all the other jams
2. jam #1
3. bedroom ambience
4. astronauts
5. kaleidoscope
6. jam #2
7. jam #3

tell me if the link expires etc

feedback is much appreciated.

you.  recording studio.  nao.

This is good stuff..I get in these moods where I want to just kick back and listen to that "free your mind" type of music.  Thank you and your band for me for getting together and making an original, unique sound.

man, thanks for these nice words!
I really appreciate it :)
generally.. we will go to the recording studio this fall.. to record our debut album.

for the moment, you should visit our myspace, I uploaded some songs from our rehearsal. the quality sucks badly etc, but it's better than nothing at all.

by the way, I think we'll be getting a decent quality recording of our show 05/29; the sound man was recording the whole thing.. so if it is of decent quality I'll mix it up and share it with you guys.

Yup, I already downloaded yalls live jams bootleg and checked the myspace.  I really dig Iceberg.  Too bad it's so short..those are the kinds of songs you don't want to end so quickly.

nonetheless you liked it, it's still shaping up difficult.. I mean we cannot find the proper version/etc to play. drums or no drums, how many guitars, what effects etc, maaaaan.

btw, I got a 50 sec preview of our live recording from the show, man, the quality is AWESOME.
can't wait to get the whole thing and share it with you

I do, I can upload them later today if you want to.
though I'd encourage you to wait for the live show recording, cause basically it's the same thing musically, just the quality will be better.. but still the sound guy did not send me the files.

annoying.

by the way, I will also be uploading my other ambient stuff today, me and my bandmate from slowattack were recording some accordion yesterday :)

so here's the bootleg of our 09.05.29 show in one small club.

2. Kaleidoscope
3. Bedroom Ambience
(3,5. All Flights are Cancelled (reprise: saxophone solo))
4. Iceberg
5. Astronauts

7. All Flights are Cancelled
8. The Sun
(8,5. All Flights are Cancelled (reprise: saxophone solo))

So I listened to the album over the past couple of days and I must say, I'm impressed.  It's really laid back music -- something I could put on before I go to bed and drift into a dream with.  And you're right about the sax, very overwhelming at times but nonetheless a good effort..keep up the good work man.

P.S.  Iceberg was fucking awesome live.
Title: Re: slowattack. (updated: 09.04.29)
Post by: lostpilot on Jun 04, 2009, 02:38 PM
maan.. I nonetheless believe Iceberg totally sucked..
we did not get the intro right, and everything was clumsy.
we are starting to call this song the "CLUMSY UNCOMFORTABLE SONG".

still, glad you like it!

ah, you should have seen the performance live.. not only the visuals and our modern dance dancer made everything look nice, but also the sound was totally different; here mostly you can hear the "highs".. drums and high guitars, but there's no real "explosion" is it sounds like live on the breakdown.
eeeeeeeeeeeh

I write to remember is a reference to Wolverine's last dialog in the film, isn't it bro? "do you drink to forget? _I drink to remember". I had a quick snapshot on your tunes, they seemed quite groove for me, but I want to hear them in more deepness to have an opinion. For now I'll just say It's perfect music to read.

actually I write to Remember is more of a reference to At the Drive-In, 'One Armer Scissor'

Quotedissect a trillion sighs away
will you get this letter
jagged pulp sliced in my veins
i write to remember
'cause i'm a million miles away
will you get this letter

nonetheless your interpretation is just as nice and interesting :)

Title: Re: lostpilot's music
Post by: lostpilot on Jun 22, 2009, 08:24 PM
the problem is they differ greatly.
Dreams and Dreams II are purely ambient. no drums, no nothing, just ambience.

while Deconstruct is more "approachable" with synthetic drums, bass and stuff like that.

Goddess is more of a one piece creation..

I'd honestly suggest to try them all, lol.
but for the beginning.. hm.
maybe begin with Dreams.

Hey The out circuit's fan, I was remembering an old piece of music I made circa 2007 and it's the type of melody you'd come up with. The track is REALLY simple. Feel free to play over it and manipulate it how much you want to, maybe something cool will come up who knows.

hahhahaha, no problem...I don't know why I didn't think about you collaborating with it before, since this little piece was recorded in like october 07. I think one thing (your pictureesque album) led to another (me remembering this existed). With time I created another gentle guitar line that is over it, so whenever I have my pod xt live again I'll record it so you can play with it. why are yuo visiting ireland? I'm curious. Bon voyage, by the way ;).

I'm in Ireland because my brother lives here, I come visit on summers, maybe I'll get a summer job cause I badly need a new laptop you know.. it's a shame I cannot yet take my guitar here, I would play with your recording, had some nice ideas.

well will do it in two months anyway :)

man i listen your both dreams (that ambient albums) they recorded really quality. And good stuffs in it
- you know this is the part of usin ''but'' word - :

even its ambient songs really dont have their own melodies or own names or own identity or own world..i mean i understand its ambient but this way songs kind of alone, long and that bores me

i think there are so many unnecesary same organ (or snyth) sounds there.
again songs are quality but coward

but your decon album is awesome man !

- vision q : its like team sleep works, why dont you add some lyrics
- I write : the end part is cool but its too long, get me bored , also i hate birds :)
- drones : Here's my favorite, you should absolutely turn this one to a song
- this story : really interesting and cool effects....
- reminiscience: cool drums cool atmosphere, but nothing special (melody , riff  or smthng need)
- nothern lights : sweet but song doesnt have any verse1-2 and chorous part always the same part..it begins and it ends
- clouds : very good. so much difference there but i like it..its good to hear some woman voices damnit
-  my mother : i didnt like it
- heartbeat :  its fine, in somewhere its getting wrong but cool anyway...........i really want you to add some sharp things to add (guitar, not echoed piano or or someshit) you guys sounds like team sleep
-  your heart : at last something about voice and its sharp ! but then that organ atmosphere again...

i hope you dont get me wrong, you guys dont need any positive critics you need negative ones...
i ll listen your last album tomorrow..

hey,

well yeah, negative critique is really better than the positive one.
and I do agree with your thoughts about the lack of substace and emotion, I'd say.

all points taken, thanks for your thoughts, I had nice time reading all of that
nice when people react to someone's making

I have another thing to share, it's me and my band's slowattack Live EP.
the quality sucks, our playing sucks, but it's really honest.
and please try to ignore me and the other guitarist reading some lame ass poetry in the beginning and the end of the record. it was a modern poetry festival, so we had to improvise.. anyway, enjoy. yes, we do make a lot of mistakes and we're not professional musicians :)

that's interesting. I personally could say that Lonesome Sky in H Minor is better for me, I mean, it's more conceptual, though in the same way Strange Lights and Ornaments contains some of my favourite songs, like Clouds, Have You Lost Your Name and, obviously Vision Quest to the Red Mountain (which imo is one of ten best songs I've ever created, along with Fig. V, Fig. IX etc).

I am now making my sixth album (fifth one - Dreams III will be released this january, later), '51 Seconds in the Desert' which should be more similar to Strange Lights and Ornaments than Lonesome Sky in H Minor. You could say the songs are more energy driven :)

Anyway, I really appreciate you like my music, and you know that:)

Some more ambience:

The third installment of the Dreams project is the height of Darius Gerulis' work as the Picturesque Episodes. Continuing the themes of its prequels, the album is warmly ambient with myriad sparkling artifacts and textures that keep the listener engaged. The crumpled guitar textures in the third track, épisode I: Le Petit Prince are vaguely reminiscent of Steven R. Smith, however the evolution of the piece is highly unique and exhibits profound evidence of Gerulis' strength as a composer. Dreams III leaves behind an astounding expectation of things to come. This is not a release to be missed.

thank you! I really love "writing"  titles, I guess you should love the upcoming Constellations' titles!

and there is quite a lot of "me" in the titles, for example - 'épisode I: Le Petit Prince' is about how I am "the Little Prince" in relationship with my brother (yes, those two talking children in the background are me and my brother), and the 'épisode II: L'essentiel Est Invisible' means that in my relationship with my brother we don't need no "materialism" to prove we love each other deeply. essential things are invisible:)

and I just love repeating themes (cause there are a lot of recurring themes in my dreams) for example, a low star which means a static "north" which does not ever change no matter what happens in life. if you're struck down in life, you can always look up to the sky - you will always see the low star, no matter where on the globe you are. Also, the bracket songs - as you could have noticed, all my albums contain one song, which title is in brackets - (stars), (universe), (intermission), (fiction), (sleep). I'm not sure why was I doing this, but I guess Constellations will ruin this "tradition".

Anyway, so much for me talking about my music..
I am REALLY glad you are enjoying this

edit: by the way, I found a poem which inspired me to create three songs dealing with "A Low Star"
don't be too hard on it, I'm not the mostly gifted writer/rhymer, and this was written some 3-4 years ago anyway

A LOW STAR

..ants digging up the ground
and down them do I slowly frown.
Swivel round six times,
and I'll lie open in the glance -

A star low and barely known
floating by the skyline,
painted red and blue -
inside my twisted spine vine.

Yet I watched the star
like a melody so sweet - to repeat - for a thousandth time,
relapse, relapse, relapse -
I watched.

Whether or not is this a dream,
swivel back six times
and I am back remembered
at the driest grounds.

Each and every rhyme,
swivel round six times
ants hidden down the glass..
the star has then escaped.

You seem to have a deep admiration towards your brother, do your dreams often includes him? If I can remember well he lives far away from you, didn't he?

I liked the last two lines of the poem, by the way. Really misterious I must say.

yes, me and my brother have indeed an amazingly strong bond, because he is living abroad for about five years now = major chunk of my life when I could use him being here with me. Anyway, I've got plans to move in with him after I finish my university, to live in one country - at least, you know :) Life has been grateful  to me by giving me that kind of a brother. And yes, I have a lot of dreams with him - obviously because I miss him A LOT.

the cover.. I am having a lot of problem with that. No matter how much do I love the picture, I think I will not be able to use it for the release cover. Because I have no idea whose it is. I was trying to go through with "not intended for profit, all rights belong to the respective authors", but the head of my label told me he will not be able to release the album if I do not get the permission.

And I have no leads on whose this picture is; just found it on a random myspace; the owner of that myspace told me he used this picture for years now and had no idea whose it is. sucks.

you can use it, i believe, as long as you say 'the following photo is a found image and all credit goes to the photographer who remains unknown' or something like that. you're not claiming ownership and as far as you are aware there isn't a copyright on the photo because it's being used and distributed on the internet. you're technically giving the photographer credit, you're just not naming them because you don't know who they are. use it, and if the photographer contacts you then you can give them credit on your next release. and perhaps you might even use another image of theirs. this is actually the only way you will know whose image it is.

beirut's zack condon had the same problem. he had found an image in a library book while he was in eastern europe and used it as the cover for gulag orkestar. it turned out to be a photo by the amazing sergey chilikov.

I actually found two of the artists that made this picture couple of hours ago. One of them had the original photo, stock photographer, the other one manipulated digitally with the picture to make the stars/atmosphere. So generally I contacted the second person (cause I am using kinda his work, stock rules etc), will be waiting for his reply.

I did mention that I am a non-profit artist and that the album will not be used for commercial purpose etc etc etc.
Hope it is all well and he will not ask thousands of dollars for the rights etc. Then I'll have to look for something else..

By the way, blixa, since your music taste is quite interesting, I'd suggest you try any of my Dreams series albums. It's ambient music, emotionally charged yet experimental.

I'd first try with II or III part. or I. well I don't know, they are quite different - while Dreams I is more abstract, Dreams II is somewhat more based on "structure", Dreams III is mostly minimalistic. Your choice :) I'd go with III or II

I did enjoy recording it a lot. You'll see more of generalized "rocky" sound in this album. This album is definitely more "rock" driven over "ambient". Though, of course, there are enough silent/calm/sweet moments. But I am enjoying myself with bringing everything to this direction.

Darius, Could you upload track 6 from Dream III? that file failed when I downloaded it.

By the way, I've been having one of dreams III's song on eternal repeat for the entire day at work (it sounds confusing, I think you get the idea). A partner of mine said you music makes him feels good.

I listened all the way through it, and i found most of it to be very interesting. I like the "heavier" and more dense parts. The highlight for me was the first track. I'm still not too fond of the programmed drums, though i guess it makes the whole progress easier for you.

I've noticed that some people see this track as a stand out - especially, the breakdown-final-minute-thing.
And for me personally it's quite interesting how the song evolved through a couple of years, and changed from a ambient-driven piano song to a rocking-out harmony-noise song :) weird!

I'd recommend either Constellations (rocky stuff) or Songs of the Nightingales/the Reimagined Sleep Soundtrack (neo-classical/ambient/drone).

Cause basically I really consider myself having only five "real" albums -
Lonesome Sky in H Minor
Dreams III
Constellations
Songs of the Nightingales
the Reimagined Sleep Soundtrack

everything that went before is.. different, demo-like basically. experiments that got to be released to the people.

I don't say I don't value Dreams I/II. They are good records, but they lack essence/quality/mixing+mastering, basically things are way too experimental there, the structure is chaotic and faulty. I want my listeners to hear the best that comes out of my head! And as for the Strange Lights and Ornaments, it's basically a collection of demo songs without any connection in between. Like Team Sleep's Unmastered Unreleased. Just songs :)

I am superhappy you like it! The next place (if you enjoyed Constellations that much) would probably be Lonesome Sky in H Minor, though it's different.

The point is, every album I release is different musically. Constellation was the mostly, em, approachable? Structured as a "rock album".

these are the demos of the first tracks anyway, basically there will be some more vocals, cleasing, mix and mastering changes etc, but structurally and emotionally - that's what is here.

some other tracks will be quite different altogether.

01. the Endless Blooms
02. the Majestic Eternal Night
03. the Still Silent Years (Hydrocodone)
04. the Darkest Swan
05. the Ghosts (死霊)
06. the Time Addict's Looking Glass
07. the Sadness Within the Rose
08. the Pilot (Has Been Utterly Changed into Fire)
09. the High Star
10. the End (Floating in Space Endlessly)

basically, tracks 4, 5 and 10 will contain something I have never done before. I am looking forward to completing all of this, but the release date is pushed back towards late autumn or even winter.. :)

since you're all my buddies, you get to taste the album before the release.
this is the late demo, some things will still be improved, but I am pretty much satisfied with this abstract-ish album.

The album contains an overdose story musically.
The alternative ending.. well, if you are human you may get the idea which ending is more positive and which ending is more.. negative?

my first thoughts are to not really call it drone. in my opinion it's kind of more ambient or maybe even post-rock-ish. mostly because it's more interesting than the normal drone i hear.

but i'm definitely digging this a lot :)

Darius, just wanted to say that this album is my favourite from you among dreams III. I think it has a lot to do with the fact that Silk spaceport has a really focused and solid identity. Loved the first track, in fact it's the first song I listened to when I was informed that my brother was going to be  father and captured that feeling of early christmas really well for me.
Fella, I'd love you to collaborate on a track of my band's LP. It's a piece similar to Thrice's Nightdiving and your atmospherics should mesh well with the rest. As soon as I have a demo i'm sending it to you.

I'm thinking about sharing a couple of new track demos which I am very proud of. Surely the best things I've done so far.
What do you think?

Point is, I don't want the demo to ruin the idea that the songs will sound a little different, more mastered, more perfected etc.
And yes, you will feel that my emotions, styles and atmospheres are little changed.

Cosmic-rock it is then..

I will probably share them soon.
I am really happy with what became from the songs, no matter how blueprint'ishy they are right now. Still. They are different. Much more percussion.

I want to achieve sort of a tribal element in this album, which I have been obsessed with, so percussion is important. Yet I still cannot seem to find good mixing strategy for the drums to sound nice.. they sound okay now, I need more :)
and some songs are slowly moving towards lo-fi end.. but still are somewhat mixed accordingly.

this album is weird. I mean, you can expect things after Endless Blooms, but the album shifts there greatly, back and forth, back and forth. Lots of varied shit.

I will stop making excuses for my personal creations  right - about - NOW.

D, you were right. Your music is to embrace its biggest change ever. The songs sound huge, they could touch trillions of people without loosing a bit of its essence. I couldn't help but smile when listening to the first notes of the Multiverse. still, I'd like you to work on developing the drum programing skills, which is kind of the weak point of your recordings (still in this demos they are quite better I think). Maybe some drummer you know, or from internet? I don't know.
Last but not least, I encourage you to use Marimba on this next batch of compositions, the timing is definetively right.
Take a look how they sound: (this is a little midi I took the oportunity to write in the moment and add some fx's just for the sake of adding something creative to it, hope it enhances the experience ) http://www.mediafire.com/?m60ac59c4obth4c (http://www.mediafire.com/?m60ac59c4obth4c)

Yes, I have  to find a way to program drums better. I think what I will do is get a very special reverb for the drums, vary the intensity, maybe use other samples.. I'm happy with the drums in Blooms, but other songs still have to improve. I will have  to find a way. I don't really know :)

you could give me advice on the mixing/mastering the drums or something. anyway.
I believe this could be THE record :)

I'd preffer you send me the drums on a stereo track & the music in another to test my thoughts and adjusting them before giving a possible solution to you. But anyway I highly reccomend you do some more research on drum programming & libraries before acting on its sound. A few people here might be in the know how.

News about "Endless Lullabies". The album will most likely be released in the end of February. I am very very very excited about this album.

The album is composed from three continuous movements -

I. Movement I:
   01. the Endless Blooms
   02. the Eternal Nightmare
   03. the Still Silent Years (Hydrocodone)
   04. the Multiverse
II. Movement II:
   05. the Darkest Swan
   06. the Time Addict's Looking Glass
   07. the Sadness Within the Rose
III. Movement III:
   08. the High Star
   09. the Endless Lullabies

The approximate time for each movement is about 35-40 minutes, and I could say that separate movements act as separate acts of the story in the album. I remind you, Endless Lullabies is the third and final part of my conceptual Low Star Trilogy (first part was 'Lonesone Sky in H Minor', even though the official story was never published with the album; second part was 'Constellations' with story in the storybook). In this album, the nameless protagonist deals with an idea of eternal life.

Also, I might publish the "Low Star" novel later in 2011, as a full trilogy story release in one book.

Title: Re: lostpilot's music (the Picturesque Episodes)
Post by: lostpilot on Jan 13, 2011, 06:43 PM
Yes, around two hours. Sometimes I think that it might be too much for most listeners, but at this point I am concerned with the final form of the album - every part is important, every part is completely different. I could say, that this album will have everything my music can offer (edit: in this particular story and context).

For example; the Darkest Swan will be a (even somewhat doom-)drone song, evolving into a kind of tribal post-metal sound, then the direction of music is completely changed with the Looking Glass - more like beautiful soft texture-rock evolving into dark ambient with acoustic guitars and into epic deep (yet not noisy) pulsating drone of the Sadness which changes into a melancholic cosmic waltz of sorts..

There will be many, many things in this album.

Well, for me creating music is not like just composing, writing, recording and mixing - it's the fundamental self-expression form for me and my experiences, dreams, visions and so on.. it's difficult to describe. that is why I release so much music - it just flows from me, somehow.

new release on February 5th!
A live album - "Sleeping in the Opiate Forest".

Of course, depends on what you call live. Subjectivity.
Six tracks, 30 minutes. Minimalistic, drone-y, music for floating while intoxicated.

Thank you, Darius! You're new music is always appreciated here.

Honestly, I wasn't feeling this at first, mainly because I'm not the BIGGEST drone fan around. But most of this seems more atmospheric and, as you said, abstract, which I enjoy.  Journey... and Sleeping in the Immortal Forest I didn't really care for, just don't seem like my cup of tea upon first listen. Then the Drifting Monolith came on, and I loved that haunting feeling of it. For me, it was an album changer. The last half is so good! Will give another complete spin this afternoon!

Question about Endless Blooms... I have a demo track called the Majestic Eternal Night. Is that renamed to the Eternal Nightmare? Random, I know, just been organizing my digital music library lately.

thoughts:

well, Sleeping in the Opiate Forest is sort of a filler album with the experiments. Plus you have to have in mind that this album is "live" (no matter how weird does it sound) and was recorded in one take. So it means something for me, I guess.

Yes, the track was renamed!

And the next album coming to the people is, finally, massively, epicly, "Endless Lullabies".
Two or three months and the monolith will be ready.

I am thinking about this album all the time. Everything is drawn, planned, created, storyline is written in my head, I just have to work. A LOT.
And read about various mixing mastering techniques to improve the album.

I have to say though, that only the first Movement (first 4 tracks, demos in the sampler) will be available for free (somehow).
Other two will be available as a digital album through BandCamp with a certain minimum price. I cannot afford to release free music anymore - I guess after ten albums which I released for free I have some sort of a right to expect donations from people :)

That is all for now.

Well, to be honest, it was quite easy. There are only guitars on one song (Sleeping in the Opiate Forest) - so looping was the way to go; infinite loops and switches. While other songs were played with a keyboard plus lots of manipulation.

that would be nice, our drummer suggested we could turn it into a large song, since he enjoys playing it so much. There's a variation of the "chorus", also. It's cleaner sounding & it could be useful to your work;
TheNightPilot.
we are recording the drum tracks at the end of february. I hope to have the guitar tracks at the end of march. The bass will have to wait a little more time, our bassist hasn't done his creative job yet (I have a few rough ideas for the bass, though.).

I decided that I am not just yet ready to finish recording "Endless Lullabies" - it is taking forever, perfectionism never helped me anyway.
It is postponed to (probably) summer.

While the works of "Endless Lullabies" are on hold, I will release an album that I had in my mind for a long time. Cosmic-rock with a touch of dark silent drone. Music for dark evenings, shamanism and esoteric dreaming, post-apocalypse, space-traveling, gloomy dusty dark cities and end of times.

i kinda like the first 9 minutes or so. seems a little more random or maybe even glitchier at times than your normal material.

loved the buildup to the 11-15 minute mark. unless that track leads into something else, maybe end it a few minutes sooner? i'm not sure what you want to hear other than that. it's a good track, just maybe goes on a couple minutes too long.

And saying that it is a "dance" album is a little.. off.
Mostly the album follows patterns of idm, midi space rock, ambient.
But it's definitely up-beat and, less "meaningful".

the fuck...

it's going to be weird, expect it.
And saying that it is a "dance" album is a little.. off.
Mostly the album follows patterns of idm, midi space rock, ambient.
But it's definitely up-beat and, less "meaningful".

Experiments :)

Well since you put it that way I think i'll really enjoy it. I'm also looking forward to hearing your "masterpiece" as well.

Well.
I've put my heart into Cosmogenesis.
Not much left until the release, but with thesis, exams and new life I don't know if I will manage. I hope I will..

oh I''m always down for more of your music. Experimental is good. But Cosmogenesis is delayed for a while now?
Title: Re: lostpilot's music (the Picturesque Episodes)
Post by: lostpilot on May 02, 2011, 06:09 PM
no, Cosmogenesis will be released on May 15th as planned. It's mostly finished anyway, and if I recall you've heard something close to the final version.

Endless Lullabies is postponed indefinitely for now. I might release Movement I (Blooms, Nightmare, Multiverse) as an EP, but right now I grow tired of post-rock. A LOT.
Title: Re: lostpilot's music (the Picturesque Episodes)
Post by: Deftones-argentina on May 03, 2011, 01:32 AM
How much of Endless Lullabies lacks to be recorded? It wouldbe a pity to leave this record. Even more now that the first movement is a standout on your discography. It's like your buffalo, your Eros.
Title: Re: lostpilot's music (the Picturesque Episodes)
Post by: lostpilot on May 03, 2011, 02:01 AM
Both movements II and III are not written or recorded yet because I rewrote a whole bunch of stuff and it got all messed up around.

New track.
As I said - beware, this album might not be what you expect.
A companion to Cosmogenesis.

Alive is good. At this rate you can probably start covering Godsmack and I would still like your music.
Title: Re: lostpilot's music (the Picturesque Episodes)
Post by: lostpilot on May 03, 2011, 02:08 AM
It's still in demo shape, some mistakes etc. I think this song is the only one so amazingly "uplifting and cute" in the album. Other songs are mostly minimal becoming dream pop becoming ambient becoming techno. Experimental pop, lets say.

Nice! I've tried to imply the "this is a part of something much much bigger" feeling. Hope it worked.

So, upcoming works - GENESIS trilogy (Cosmogenesis, Technogenesis, Psychogenesis) and Endless Lullabies I.

Technogenesis to be released next Sunday, other two will have to wait a little :)

hehe, always nice to hear man! Right now I will be taking some unexpected turns (imo), towards electronic and acoustic experiments (Technogenesis Psychogenesis), but the "post-rock" vibe will definitely come back in the updated Endless Lullabies I (as been released as a demo sampler).

Soon, my friends, soon.

awesome. it's the instrumental version? so there's gonna be vocals?

well either way, i like it - the beat, the dynamics.
Title: Re: lostpilot's music (the Picturesque Episodes)
Post by: lostpilot on Sep 26, 2012, 12:25 AM
yes there will be vocals.
this however might only come out in the second King Sleep album, since the first one is already formed.

And yes, I already have two full albums recorded, all I need to do is finish the vocals.
WHICH IS A DIFFICULT THING. But I'll pull it off somehow.

Post by: lostpilot on Nov 06, 2012, 12:13 AM
How does the cosmic-story "Constellations" continue, where does the traveller go as he enters the portal, the Low Star? The answers lie in the "Endless Lullabies", and album that has been hanging in the air with me for so long. I have composed most of the tracks back at the end of 2010, while I was in Turkey, having a different kind of experience and I feel like I put lots of myself into this post-rock record. I take these things seriously, the story continues. However, the album has dated - and even though it's original composure is pretty much ready for releasing, my mind is indecisive.

the Picturesque Episodes - the Endless Blooms (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xSsOxQTFRbI#ws)

The original composure contains four tracks - the "Endless Blooms", "Eternal", "Still Silent Years", "Multiverse" and tells the musical version of mental journey of the traveller, through the portal, into another dimension. Since the original musical story of the previous albums ("Constellations" and such) now is becoming a book (a science fiction story), the journey has changed a little, and I want to include two other tracks and remaster everything from scratch. It's a though decision that I can't get my grip around!

In any decision the album will be released, and hopefully soon since it's already almost done (like everything with me, never complete, never good enough - including more than 30 King Sleep tracks..). I feel a strong need to start singing in performances and both on record, to let my spirit out there, to all of you listening, yet I still feel like I still have not grown enough to do a pretty decent job and receive your praise, but I will!

Much love,
Darius

cool! I really enjoyed making it, and I thing it's my most comprehensive ambient album so far!
in other news:

- right now I am working with more than 40 King Sleep tracks, it's a drag
- I will be playing in three big festivals in summer -  first one happening in two weeks in the capital, along with Toro y Moi, Kelis, FM Belfast, Mum and bunch of other names in other stages
- Two outdoor festivals in the summer, both I loved playing at last year and the year before
- Need new gear, have not enough money
- Trying to find solutions for live shows!

Here we go.
Also I really really want to release a track as 'the Picturesque Episodes', it's called "Time Reset", and there's bunch of my vocals (which I am doing now everywhere, haha). It's awesome, I love it. It's basically about time travel and stuff.

Cheers!

Really good stuff man, has a really chill relaxing vibe to it, I can  see I'm going to be listening to this alot as i always like to put on some down tempo stuff when I'm working on a uni proejct or something, noticed a upgrade in the production since the last ep you posted here for download as well, the Picturesque episodes? i think it was, I can't check because it was on my old pc that crashed but i remember production wise they sounded more like demos than this new stuff, the production on this stuff really sounds great.
Title: Re: lostpilot's music (the Picturesque Episodes + KING SLEEP)
Post by: lostpilot on Sep 27, 2013, 06:33 PM
Thanks, dude, but the production is never enough good with me! It's still more of a 8/10 when I want at least 9 or 10 out of 10. Long way to go, still. All of the previous music that I have done was not as good as what I do right now, well maybe for a couple of the Picturesque Episodes (while I pushed out like twenty of them, carelessly).
I am growing, music is in my veins and I will reach my dream.

No, it is, really. From everything that I had done I only would consider "Cosmogenesis", "Singularity" and "Constellations" to be real albums, even though there's still a million things to improve on these albums truly. Also there's "Endless Lullabies" which is on hold forever and might never be released. Only with King Sleep I reach the clarity of production but yet not always.

It's a process in my mind, I expect many things from myself, and I expect them to happen quickly and effortlessly. This will be my downfall! Never truly polishing anything well enough.

just in case you have wondered, things are moving forward slowly, I am playing more and more live shows, and with time and effort they are a better experience and I am better at what I do. This picture is from a local arts festival "Insanitus" where I played before headliners from UK, and most of the audience thought I was actually the hyped project for the festival (the one from UK), they were very impressed. Much more impressed after realizing that I am just a local dude that works in his bedroom.

"the Picturesque Episodes" is fully OFF for the time being.
"King Sleep" is expanding slowly.

Much love
Honestly, I keep coming back to some of my ambient works and am like "whoa I did justice to that song", you know.

At this time I am preparing to release an EP with 4-5 songs under a new alias
I will keep you posted, guys

I was watching The Handmaid's Tale just now and thought one of the musical motifs that pops up sometimes reminded me of something. Just figured out it reminded me of a part of one of your picturesque episodes songs, death frequency.

Did you by chance partake in the arrangement of the score?

Hey,

That would be totally great for my music career but unfortunately no, not just yet :)
Thanks for reminding me!
