I didn't. My bad.

Also never heard Lucky You live. I posted the earlier post from my car in a coffee shop parking lot so I messed up a bit.  :)

He sang part of it during the breakdown of "bored" quite a bit. Probably as close as it's came to being played live

Good evening... and welcome to the white pony

976-EVIL

Deathblow is such a great Track! Never seen it live myself but there was a great performance of it in Lisbon recorded out there somewhere.

Very cool video and venue! Anyone got it?

speaking of souvenir again...anyone have any idea what the vocals are between the post-chorus ("keep warm here beside me / holding you tightly...we ride") and verse 3 ("as you drift / out of it...you wake" verse)? all i can really make out is "movement"? the liner notes don't have the lyrics either.
i hope she comes

Hmm I thought it was a sample from Frank. Can't make out what it says though.

Yes. I recall that.

I guess Goon Squad, 976-Evil, and Good Morning Beautiful are my most rare.

I hope next time I see them, they dust off more of Ohms and Private Music.

mmm...seems like a job for my stoner ears. i did a partial transcription of the acid hologram vocals, but the vocals mixing being so different on this album will definitely pose a challenge.

just saw deftones live for the first time and it was fucking beautiful.

i didn't really appreciate milk of the madonna when it initially released but man hearing it live is soo much better and i def like it way more now. i do wish their setlist had some underrated & under appreciated songs of theirs but nonetheless it was good.

glad i brought earplugs because they were really loud lol

The album is growing on me more and more, such weird details. Songs that at first several listens are unremarkable, reveal themselves... Departing the body springs to mind

I really think of Royal and CMND/CTRL as the sonic template for the album... a buzzing overdriven guitar with Chino and Frank getting creative on top of it.

Infinite Source and MOTM are still the standouts, don't like ITAYATT at all and don't mind a heartfelt Deftones but take my diamond line is cringe and feels like reaching for prom dance audiences.

It's a trip of an album

Fearlessflyer3

Lately, I find myself skipping to Milk of the Madonna, and vibing out with the latter half of the album. PM is so good, it is currently #2 on my albums rankings list; one day, it just clicked!

i've been slowly but surely integrating private music into my usual listening routine...i'll have periods of time where i mostly listen to 1-3 specific albums, listen to everything fairly equally, or get tunnel visioned on a song/1-5 songs from a specific album. the latter is what's been happening for me right now with acid hologram + phantom bride + rubicon, but when i have reached for private music i tend to go for souvenir + cXz + departing the body :D
i hope she comes

Put this back on after taking a break for a week. Still just as amazing to me.

Do I miss the old sound? Yes, and I always will, but I'm so glad we have this album and thankful I enjoy so much of it.

This Truly is a Great Record! Top Five?

It's a Grower for sure. Abe is so underrated. Absolutely killed the skins on the Closer.

I've been stewing on it for a few weeks, and now I want to give my own thoughts.

I can't claim to have an extensive history of being a Deftones fan (only listening to them for a bit over a year), and I've never had one of their albums as a whole ever truly captivate me... until now. Private Music speaks to me in ways that there other ones don't; while their other ones had a number of songs each that I liked, they usually (White Pony aside) had at least an equal number that I didn't like. I'm very fond of everything here, with the exception of Souvenir.

In terms of specifics, my absolute favorites from the album are Locked Club, Ecdysis, Infinite Source, and Milk of the Madonna. I disliked Locked Club on my first listen, but... it grew on me very quickly, and now I can say that I love it. Ecdysis is a bit similar in that regard, but not totally the same; I felt it was just alright (which stung a bit, because I had high hopes for it before the album came out), but it's grown on me as well. Infinite Source grabbed me right away; it's a fun song with a very unique guitar sound and a good chorus, so what's not to like? Milk of the Madonna is absolutely hypnotic in every regard, with great riffing, evocative lyrics, and Chino shines here as well. Honorable mention goes to Metal Dream! I love the chorus quite a bit.

All of this is to say that Private Music is definitely going on my albums of the year list as a top contender. I still think Deafheaven will take the top spot for me, but Deftones and Dream Theater (ironically, all start with a D) are right up there for me. Great job, guys.
