hi,
Man.. Deftones really was in good shape in Vienna. You would never say they are playing shows like this for 20 years.
Few of my own personal thoughts on the performance in Vienna:
- Venue: cool building, expensive beer, 'nah' sound and rude security.
- There were a few glitches in the performance. Beginning of the show Chino yelling to the tech crew, Chino voices down on some songs, Stephans guitar had no groove, Chino fucked up during (L)mirl (apology to Stephen just after the song?) and they looked at eatch other more than they usually do. Nothing really bad, my remarks do'nt have negative intentions. It's just cool to notice those little details. They really are doing an effort for their fans, that's much appreciated. There was definitly some kinda tension on the stage. Only good vibes off course.
- Setlist, not my favourite to be honest. I liked the setlist last year (pretty close to my ideal one) but it's cool to see some fresh tunes. Highlights are Minus Blindfold and Korea as an opener. Big misser is S/T album.
- Circle Pits at a Deftones in 2017 are a fact. I saw a mostly 'older' crowd, people in their thirties. Met guys from all of Europe. Deftones fans are loyal fans, that's for sure.
- The crowd reaction on new(er) songs was mild. Acid Hologram is better live than on cd but Gore big disappointment. It jus't doesn't do it for me.
- Prayers and Triangles as the encore was the biggest anticlimax in Deftones history
- Where the hell is Hearts/Wires?

Conclusion: We are all getting older, fatter but Deftones still rocks the stage. Amen!
Tom
