Hey all! I've been coming back to this forum for nearly two weeks since Deftones started teasing Private Music. This is my first album rollout so I'm super excited. I'm utterly stoked for August 22nd! It couldn't come soon enough. I've been a fan since about 2021-22 or so. Never knew there was a dedicated forum until recently so I decided to make an account. I like the new song a lot and may post up my review on here depending on how long of a post/review I'm allowed to make. (Also, I'm not sure how to add those cool song flairs and lyric footnotes I've been seeing. Any tips would be useful).

We'll let's play a small game...

If the entire album sounded more or less like My Mind is a Mountain, where would you rank it in their discography?

I can't even count how many times I've listened to it.

The hardest thing I've had to battle since Thursday is not wearing out that song

Definitely excited that Nick is producing the record this time. And I never thought I would say that. I feel like Chinos vocals were a little bit overproduced on ohms. Especially on the verses on parts of the record. Some of it was rad too.

I hope he's loud enough in the mix. He seems a little bit low in the mix on the new track. But I still think it fits from what they are trying to do. The new song has not quite grabbed me yet. But I'm sure it will coming up.

What happened to You is still my favorite Deftones closer and I woul love another atmosphere track like that

I would be happy with a head nodding heavy set of bangers to vibe to. Deftones has NEVER let me down and I'll love anything they give us but I would be a bit upset about the lack of experimentation or song diversity.

I guess top 3, the sound is amazing I love how reverb it is with being overbearing, same with the guitar its a very heavy and spacey sound,

Like idc if u guys will say "ur just saying that because its new" its true its really good quality, and rhis is my type of music
My dad says Deftones gay, but he doesn't know real music

I'm kind of at the point where I'd be totally fine if they gave us more of what they do best. They're 10 albums into their career. I don't necessarily need them to reinvent the wheel. They seem to be experimenting with the overall production sound and feel more so than the song writing side of things this time.

The single sounds like they handed Nick the album "Inlet" by Hum and were like, "We want it to sound like this." And I mean that as a huge compliment. Inlet is one of the best sounding records of recent memory. I love that huge wall of sound with a touch of shoegaze element to it.

I'd be totally fine if the whole record sounds like that. I'm pretty open to whatever they throw at us, but I feel like this album might just be Deftones doubling down on their sound. But who knows, they always keep us guessing.

I don't know if they can top the sound of Self-Titled for me. I just fucking love that record, it's my personal favorite. Something about the whole production on that album I just love. The guitars sound warm and heavy, the drums are punchy, it just has a whole vibe that I love. But if the new record sounds like MMIAM, then I dunno it might be top 5.
