I think I gt ahead of myself with the experimental nature of it. After a few more listens, it's not completely out there, it's similar to SNW in a way, even with the intro (like Combat). But...I still think this album will definitely be different in terms of it still being Deftones, but with some new elements or whatever. My excitement is through the roof, so I'm sorry for my multiple posting, but noone else is gonna listen to my Deftones-related rambling. Ah, I do enjoy this song which says a lot because I tend to prefer the softer songs. But...sometimes it's nice to have a change.

The Combat comparison is right. The whole song is very SNW too, like it could have been a B Side of it.

While this could be entirely wrong, you've got to hypothesize that "Tempest" is going to be much softer/more accessible after the band has released such an aggressive song in "Leathers", right?

Of course, this is useless speculation, but humor me.

I'd imagine that it's softer. This was a free download for fans, like a teaser of the album, whereas Tempest is the first single, the one that has to be more radio-friendly or appeal to casual fans or those only just learning of Deftones. I can imagine it being either soft or...kinda like Rocket Skates in the sense that it has heavy elements but it's not so "out there". I could also imagine that the reason they chose to let us hear Leathers was because one thing DE was missing much of was that hard, raw, brutal, aggressiveness, so maybe they decided it was time to show us they've brought those elements back.
