I'm going to take a wild guess and say there was a mike being spun in a circle as Abe played. I have heard that done before on other records and it is eerily similar to the sound in the space before Chino starts singing

They do the same thing and it sounds extremely similar in the intro

Yeah there's a moment in the Edsel song where he does a nice fill and you can really hear the mike swirling overhead, it's a cool technique and I am almost willing to bet they did that, but slower, it does sound eerily similar
