just a small review i wrote for a friend's blog - i'm sure i'm gonna get some flak for this.

Hey man, that's a great review.  Very honest and obviously coming from a true Deftones fan and expert.  I agree with a lot of what you said.  There are some parts of the album that come off as soft/complacent.  And the Meshuggah stuff is getting old.  I miss the lush tones Steph had on ATF/WP.  One thing I disagree with is your contempt for the softer songs.  I think "Beauty School" is one of the band's best songs ever.  Definitely a step above Cherry Waves, but that's just my opinion.  Sometimes "Sex Tape" can be a bit repetitive, in your favor.  At first I didn't like "Risk" but it's growing on me.  I'm glad you highlighted that track.  I'm also a huge fan of TPID and Prince - two of the band's best songs in my opinion.  And I love the verse of 976 and Royal.  But I can't get into the chorus of "Royal"...what's the allure?  But yes, you're right, the end is freakin' relentless - epic Deftones!!  Anyways, thanks for sharing your review - one of the more thoughtful ones I've come across.

thanks.  Yeah I guess that's what makes this band one of the greatest - you see sides to their music which you absolutely love but I haven't understood...yet.  And of course vice versa.  So hopefully I'll begin to appreciate the parts of Diamond Eyes that you love and that I haven't quite understood yet. And I hope those Royal Verses blow you away soon too :)

cnr~

Bored of the album already to be honest, i hate to admit it myself but from the second i heard it i thought it was just abit thin, drums are rather boring and the guitar is too muddy to get me going. The song structures are severely predictable, i never compare anything to WP but thats where it excels, each song had an unpredictable form...:(

I feel the exact same way!  Its a great record, but I really miss that lush guitar sound.  And Beauty School is perfect.

Far away

SNW was the only cd I listened a few times and then I couldnt play it again. Of course some songs are good but I didnt fell in love with it like I did when I first heard DE!

DE continues to grow on me!

dawg

german streetteam has a vote up for the next single
http://www.streetteam.de/de/home.cfm?p=2041

you need to be a member to vote.

songs to vote for are:
beauty school
royal
sextape

ChickenNoodle

My vote would definitely be for Royal. But for singles, radio promos, advertising purposes, etc. I would vote for Beauty School. Seems like common sense to choose those to me at least.

So the night before last i was high as hell driving through the middle of no where stopped in the middle of the road turned the head lights off and let sextape play to nobody but me. probably the only sound 30 miles in any direction.  I have never felt so alone and so full at the same time, ever. amazing hard to put into words but that was a fuckin life experiance.

It's a good album, as always I was hoping for WP II but you know, that's never going to happen. It's boosted the band and the live peformances, well they haven't been this consitent in a looooonnnnggg time. This place is death probably has the most depth, i can't stand CMND/CNTRL though.

WP II would be a drag.  I want a band that grows and changes and create their sound based on that .

the same sound

Wal-Mart ONLY carries edited versions. Never mind that you can buy all the profanity and nudity you want 2 aisles over in the movie section...
Guess profanity is ok in moves but not music....
Never tought about that. Good fucking point. I have not nor will I ever buy a cd at goddamn Wal-Mart.
