First thought upon hearing the title was David Bowie.  Then I thought of Cat Power - Cross Bones Style.  Both cool.

I will hear its crisp form from the cd :)

yeah CD for sure.

Despite it being the norm, I hate the faceless and disposable crap that is MP3.

I hope the artwork/package is really cool on this.

Starz

I agree. I fucking hate MP3's. You're missing SO MUCH of the music in that shitty file. Buy the CD and put some headphones on and LISTEN to how it was intended to be listened to.

Penicks

I never hear any difference between an mp3 with decent kbps and a file directly played from a cd. all y'all have bat ears

Plus with the loudness war, its all just one loud mess of noise.. so it doesn't really matter.

Starz

It becomes mess when the song is compressed into a shitty mp3. and the fact you can't hear the difference between a CD and an mp3 is a little bit silly.

E-Money

I cant tell much of a diff between mp3 and cd.  Vinyl tops both of them IMO.

Doesn't become a mess when compressed to mp3.. maybe if its 128kbit MP3. but anything @ 300kbit is pretty good. And that's not the mess of sound I was talking about.

Starz

Yes I know what you meant about the loudness war. It's nothing new. Heavy Metal acts get compressed to shit at the mastering stage. It's the norm for that type of genre. it's got to be LOUD. Just like certain dance genres. Now you wanna take that already compressed to shit song on your CD, and you want to compress it AGAIN into an MP3? I just don't get it...

Deftones-argentina

Anyway to apport to the discussion, I did my test and I could recognize loss up to 192 kbps comparing against wav tracks. Over there I couldn't hear anything valuable.

Not quite the same compression.

Also.. Anyone hear the voice in the Rocket Skates teaser @ 25 seconds?

i've always had a strong preference for good sound quality which is why i would take cd's over mp3's any day. most people just don't notice but i can't stand the kind of digital crashing sound that you get from anything loud. its the worst with cymbals. that's just me, i'm a big stickler for sound quality. my girlfriend calls me out on being a nerd about it all the time. i have to have top of the line sound quality and i love to hear every aspect of a song. background atmosphere is nice.

It's discussed endlessly, but you're right. A file on a computer isn't the same as purchasing an actual product, putting the CD in and checking out the artwork in your hands as you listen for the first time. It sets the mood.

Imagine if s/t had really bright, white artwork rather than blacks, roses and skulls.. You think the album would have maybe came across as less dark? It sets the tone for me. Not that it being dark is a bad thing, personally. I love that record. I been blasting it in the car lately.
