I don't think you few guys really get what we are complaining about the most (or at least me). It's not even the song structure, or the vocals, or the style, or anything at all like that...it's literally the guitar sound.

Do you put on any of the songs before SNW came out and not fucking hear that timeless, obvious Deftones guitar sound? Whether it be a totally different type of guitar, or different play-style, whatever (I'm not sure since I don't know shit about guitar techs), it totally changed after albums 1-4, totally. That's all I really mean.

Just listen to the opening rift to Hexagram for an example. But then again, you can turn on any Deftones song from S/T and back and hear that guitar in any single song.

I'm not hating on this song though, to be clear.

Vesanic, thats you opinion dude.  I personally think that this song is a great display of the deftones sound.  Its heavy, melodic, experimental, lush.  Im very happy about it.  Im sorry u dont like it man.  But I think the rest of the album will be fairly similar to this song.  Maybe this album wont be your favorite, thats fine.  I understand the guitars sound different, but I think its time for a change.  I don't get how the chorus doesn't sound like deftones??  It does to me....

i don't get your timeless obvious deftones guitar sound argument...if rocket skates was instrumental only i would have recognize the guitar sound as deftones.right away. For now, the rips of DE are too poor to talk about the sound, but it sounds like steph doing down tuned heavy riffs.

Ves, if you ever have time, maybe do a quick mp3 of a few seconds ripped from guitar in an older song compared to like a DE guitar sound rip (since you seemed to understand and agree with me)? Like a 10 -sec mp3? It's that simple to hear the difference and understand.

I totally get where Vesanic and Minus are coming from.

Basically good shit, just that the chorus isn't Deftonesish and Terry Date brings out the best in them. The song is still good etc etc. I know exactly what guitar sound you're on about as well but I'm able to ignore the lack of it for now.

I like the song/production personally  and I think this album is going to be a simple, atmospheric Meshuggah for breakfast big happy cake but I still feel the same things above a little too.

the song is made to be appealing to a new crowd also, make a simple nice chorus and play that part a thousand times in 3 minutes so whenever a person hear the song on the radio or whatever for the first time,its gonna stick in that persons head.thats the idea of it and the idea is based on money. its not made to please defones fanatics in the first place,fans who has been down since day one, but ijm sure there will be a couple of more wierd sick songs on the album for them

come on get over it. it's the production sound of the guitar, it seems like this is what you love about the deftones, it has change with producer, but not enough to tell it doesnt sound like deftones anymore. Terry date is known for it's guitar sound, but terry date isn't deftones.

i strongly disagree with this, they made the song for themselves, to make it sound good to them always first, with the huge exception of Back to school. YOu are tellin gme deftones sold ou ton this song ? i really disagree, chino just like catchy chorus and melodies.
