Hesperian Death-Horse!

I probably would have agreed with you a few years ago but I think once you allow yourself to accept it for what it is and not hold it to being what you expected Tomahawk to do pragmatically, you can actually appreciate it. It has a wonderfully odd ambiance and I dig it. Of course I was pissed when I first listened to it and there were no "Rape This Day" or "Flashback" types of tracks. I think I was able to finally accept it when I heard there was a new album coming because then I could anticipate more classic Tomahawk insanity and judging by the description, I think we're in store for a good dose of that. Knowing there was something new made it easier to accept the very unique direction of Anonymous. There is nothing wrong with it other than it wasn't what I wanted it to be when I first heard it.

Standout tracks are "Ghost Dance," "Red Fox" and "Mescal Right 2."

Maybe but I don't consider it a Tomahawk album.

Yeah, man. I can't even describe how stoked I am for this thing. Apparently the whole thing was tracked live with all band members in the studio playing together. That shit doesn't really happen anymore. I'm sure there were dubs here and there but it seems like the core songs are live recordings which is awesome. I think all Patton's vocals were done in separate session from the main instrument recording though. That's just speculation but knowing him and his schedule I pretty much expect that. I just want to own every aspect of this album physically like CD, LP, 7" singles, CD singles, whatever. I want it all. I hope they press both singles to vinyl though. Would be so sweet.

I'm a total nerd for this band. Hopefully they'll have some good merch at that shows. I'll buy the shit out of it.

Well I'm not anywhere near as interested in this as new Deftones but I definitely look forward to a more straight-forward (for them) album.

I've been waiting much longer for new Tomahawk than new Deftones so I think I'm a lot more into Tomahawk right now but I'm still pretty excited to hear KNY. Its going to be a good 4 months of releases and shows coming up.

I have a hard time believing you guys legitmately like that album, meaning without it being forced.  Whatever the case, it is not a Tomahawk album.  Just because it says Tomahawk doesn't make it so.  In that case they could sound like Britney Spears and say it's Tomahawk.  Doesn't work.  I am not saying it sounds like Britney Spears obviously, just making a point.

well, fuck you then. I happen to love it, and I didn't force that in any way. I knew before it came out that it would be different from the earlier records. I listened to it once and put it aside because it wasn't the Tomahawk I wanted. didn't mean I hated it or tought it sucked. some time later when I listened to it again I loved it right away, and it got better with every listen.

pretty sad that you disregard something so easily. and yes, it's a Tomahawk album. it's the members of Tomahawk playing music together, and the album says Tomahawk on the cover. now shut the fuck up.

Wow, doesn't take much to get you upset.  Nothing I said was offensive.  So if they released an album that sounded literally exactly like Britney Spears under the Tomahawk name, you'd still call it a Tomahawk album?  Pah - lease.  Sure it would technically be because it was published under that title but you know what I mean.

yeah, it pisses me off when you come in here and try to state as some sort of fact that Anonymous isn't a good album, and everyone who likes it is kidding themselves. if you had just said that you don't like it, I would be fine with that. but you act like a douche and put words in other peoples mouths.

as for the Britney Spears comparison, of course it would be Tomahawk if it actually were Tomahawk, but I fail to see how they could create something that sounds like Britney Spears. Anynomous isn't that far from their original sound, it just consists of very different songs. don't like it? fine. but don't act like it's somehow wrong to actually like it.

It does sound THAT far.  That was my point.  It sounds NOTHING like Tomahawk.  And I didn't say it was wrong to like it, or it was factually bad, just that I had a hard time believing any Tomahawk fan legitimately enjoys it as a Tomahawk album.

Lump me into the category that loves Anonymous.  Bewareofrats, you're a fucking idiot.

Yes, you sure showed me with your obviously highly intelligent comment.

Lol, MP's voice sounds how I would describe as 'awkward' in the verses.  But with him it's obviously intentional.  Sounds like Tomahawk, cool.

I think he sounds great. I always enjoy when he take a more "mainstream" approach with his voice (for a lack of better terms). he still has his own completely unique style, but tones down the weirdness.

great song, imo. I expected something pretty straight forward, since they said it's be the most straight forward they'd done so far, but I still was pretty surprised with how easily approachable it is. but I like it.

This has me looking forward to this way more now:

Spin magazine's Christopher R. Weingarten has described the album as featuring a mix of genres, including "groany, smoky, Morricone-jazz" and "the types of epic, majestic choruses that Patton diehards might remember from the final Faith No More LP, Album of the Year".

Tomahawk played a few new songs on their first gig. there only seems to be video of one of them, though - the title track, Oddfellows:

sounds pretty good to me. all the naysayers who thought this album would be pure pop can please shut it now.

My friend saw them yesterday at Voodoo Fest.  I am jealous.  He said they were awesome.
