I have no clue of playing the guitar. What's all that equipment in the video even good for? Don't you just need a guitar with the right tuning and an amplifier to play?

I used to think the same thing lol .. but no.. alot of this is actually needed .. some of those effects are what makes songs like BQAD and lotion .. birthmark and korea as well .. and passenger .. its all very much needed .. trust me

Well that's not an effects unit in the video, it's practically a tube pre-amp. Since Stef doesn't use an amp on stage anymore, he's just plugging his guitar straight into his rig (rack) which goes straight to the front-of-house. What this thing does is give his rig the sound like it's going through a tube amp, even though his Axe-FX already has amp emulators on there.

To answer your question about what the equipment is even good for, if you don't have an idea about playing guitar, then don't worry about it haha. It's not a crucial part of his sound or anything like that. And in this case, yeah you would just need a guitar (in the right tuning, of course that would be wise) and not even an amplifier, but just an amp emulator.
