The song titles on S/T are brilliant. Deathblow reminds me of a dark Cure song on Pornography. Hexagram, needles and pins. Great shit
S/T is their best album. And I'm not even trolling, I mean that.

Yes. White Pony is great and deserves all the praise it gets but S/T holds up just as well.
Looking back, we got 2 back to back classics imo.

now Gore....Leak

I agree.  Self Titled is amazing.  So dark and haunting.  I saw someone describe the album as doomgaze.  Perfect description.  That along with White Pony and Diamond Eyes are my top 3.  Hopefully Gore makes its way in there.
I definitely agree, back to back. But IMO there was 3 classics in a row.

I hate to beat a dead horse down but, snw is just a jumbled mess. The band have agreed to as much.

Yea, wasn't crazy about the production quality either. Listen to rapture and you will see what I mean.

I don't really count Adrenaline or Around The Fur because I feel like Deftones didn't come into their own until White Pony.  I do enjoy Around The Fur, but Adrenaline no.  Out of the albums from White Pony on, SNW is prob my least favorite, but I still think it's a good album.  I agree it's kind of jumbled and has too many filler tracks.  Mein, Konami Code, and Pink Cellphone are just not necessary.  Konami Code is nice, but I'd prefer an actual song over it.  Kimdracula is still one of the top Deftones songs though.  Deftones are just so amazing, even the weakest albums are great.

I also agree w the poster above about the production.  Not too keen on it myself.

Rapture had potential to be a very badass song, but I agree. Production killed that album (and every album after that). Should have never parted ways with Terry Date.

I agree on the filler tracks. There should be no place for them on any deftones record. Hell the band only writes an albums worth of material. Why would you include filler? Well we all know the state of the band in that Era.

Yeah.  I wish they would have stuck w Ezrin instead of going w Lopez.  Terry Date still captures the Deftones sound better than anyone.

Yeah Riviere, Cherry Waves, Xerces, Combat are all very good tracks.  I love the verses of Rats, but the chorus is whatever.  Wish they would have kept w the dreaminess of the verses.

If this new album (Gore) doesn't leak at all, I'm pretty sure the record store I go to will have it on the shelves a day earlier(April 7th). They have always put new releases on the shelves a day before they are supposed to be released.  :)

I was really excited about them getting on board with ezrin. Sad it didn't work out. Terry Is perfect in the sense that he captures the band in their rawest form and makes it sound great. From the sounds of it, he didn't push them out of their element like other producers have tried. But he knew what they were good at and expanded upon that.

Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat!!!

About SNW? That album sucks in my opinion. Last time I listened to it, all I could do is shake my head and think to myself "WHY?"

I'm listening to the Combat demo right now and that melody Chino does on the verses sounds beautiful.

I remember reading that Bob Ezrin originally wanted "Comanche"(Riviere) to just be chino on guitar. Chino liked that, but wanted to bring the rest of the band into the track as it appears on the record.

You make an excellent point. Production is not just about mix, it's about knowing how to make a band the best version of themself. And Terry knows that about this group better than anyone.

The tracklist for SNW is definitely jacked up.  But damn, Hole in the Earth, Rapture, Cherry Waves, Rats, Combat, Kimdracula, and Riviere,  That's a great collection of songs to me.

I won't disagree. Just orientation is a little weird, and mix could have been a little less compressed.
