For the first time ever it seems Stephen is too loud in the mix and the vocals are behind the guitar. Don't know how I feel about it quite yet. Seems alright and kind of different. Good to hear some more attack and high end in Steph's guitar but we'll see. I have to let it sink in a bit.

bring your time
say goodbye now leave here
my fuse
has expired
fucking die just leave here

powerless
stuck in your web of shame
open your eyes
you only play yourself
whoever's watching
i hope they catch the drift
collect your crowd
you're now the queen of them

there
that's your life
go and die, I need in
loose and defiled
you define the need in

their delusion
don't deny it
don't make this out to be something about you

I've been scarred
fucking repulsed by this
my only tale
is one that I can't stand
now I become tore I rot and wilt
my heart is black
and I will never fail

there
say goodbye
just retire then be in (This one's the only part i'm not sure on.)
used, been exiled
take your body elsewhere

their delusion
don't deny it
don't make this out to be something about you
go waste your breathe somewhere to someone new

your castle is burning
down on you
your kingdom is burning
down

their delusion
don't deny it
don't make this out to be a thing about you

go waste your breathe somewhere to someone new

This is just so refreshing. Fucking hell Iv missed this rawness, the shit that's hard to get on the first listen, the anti melody, some fucking difference.
This is a great description of my feelings on DU. I was actually a little concerned after hearing the live version that they'd have made it too clean in the studio. Delighted they haven't.

Thanks. I bet even if those are the actual lyrics that Chino wrote, they will be different in the booklet ;D

I've listened to this song about 4 times and It got better every single time. Love that little part Abe drums at the end and how upfront the guitar is.

I like the whole "They're delusions/their delusion" part.  As if to say: It's a problem on their side, they're the ones fucking up.  Not your fault this time.  Maybe I'm just projecting my own personal current events onto the song...but it coincides with what's going on now so fucking well.  This is why I love this band.

I was thinking about this today too. That section sounds self-defensive... I have dealt with people close to me whose habits got well out of hand, and many of these lyrics are exactly the sorts of thoughts people have when they see someone get carried away in that sense... I don't need to, but I would be very very interested to know who this is about...

I didnt like it, at all.

What don't you like about it?

I didnt like the vocals. I dont know why Chino still try to sing like he does in the verse. Chorus sounds more like the Chino I like. I dont know. I just didnt like it. To be honest, after a few plays, the chorus is ok. The rest of the song ruined it for me.

Also, this

Wish Steph would go back to that 7-string too. The 8 is a little too muddy for his play style in my opinion.

and SPECIALLY this

I really feel like the 8 string is taking away from their sound. It's so muddy now. I'm just over that. Not saying it's a bad song or anything. I just listened to hexagram then listened to doomed user and not even close for me. It seems like they were trying to go more along those lines with this track.. I'm just not feeling the same intensity.

Preach.  Glad I'm not alone on this.  I'm very interested too!

Is there anyone close to the band or Chino who had an irreversible addiction problem? These lyrics are too personal to be a generalization of all addicts... it's personal enough he makes sure the person keeps guessing with the "dont make this..." part

Maybe it's not even about addiction, who knows... just very curious because both Prayers Triangles and now this track mention a "you"...

I kept thinking in the back of my mind that his ex-wife became a cracked out whore.  But that's just fucked up.

Entirely possible... we're nowhere near resolving the "queen of _______" mystery, the studio version is even more difficult to figure out, if it's really about a female then you may be on point

afte hear it all day , the guitar have grown a bit , butstill dont feel it like a great song , still to my grade

I'm assuming it is just based on the "you're now the queen of..[them?]" lyric, so to me it's kind of apparent that he's talking about a female.

Also, I'm digging Sergio's "Scott Weiland-esque" backing vocals.  Like the ones Scott provided for the chorus of RX Queen.  Baaaarely hear them but they're there and they harmonize so well.  Really makes it *pop*.

well its not THAT fucked up cuz' its true. but i doubt he would write a song about his ex wife at this stage of his life. (new wife etc)

One thing's for sure. I like this song over Prayers/Triangles. Pretty good song overall. Very raw demo tape sound. I'm not a BIG FAN of the live/reverb vocal sound but if thats what the band wants who am I to complain. Also the kick drum is inaudible. The guitar has a lot of mud and the bass is out of control at times. The mixer should have done a better job at compressing the low end. Maybe the album version will sound better.

phil for real

Everyone is complaining about the sound.  Based off the two tracks so far, they're clearly going for a more raw sound.  I like it.  Kind of different for Deftones.

Im pretty sure the version we heard is the one that will be in the album.. Its not a demo, its the official track
Was it like it seemed?...
