one weak

all i can say is that i think that the creative/art direction for this album and the band is really outdoing itself. what a breath of fresh air both from deftones and across the entire slate of the music scene right now. mind you, this is purely visual (the video, the promos, the art for the album etc.) i hope like hell the sound and landscape of the album matches the look of it all.

When you think about it, Be Quiet And Drive's guitar is very Pumpkins - especially considering the Pumpkin chord is used XD So it's not that bizarre.

no, be quiet and drive is very "everlong" by foo fighters. hell it is almost a rip off

really? i think it's just that one chord that makes it seem so......the open e string with the octave underneath......as a guitar player it's impossible not to notice if familiar with both songs.........also i wonder which one came first?
and don't forget that after both, alot of other people stole that shit fer sure, like Chevelle, and some other random crap i can't remember. (p.s. Chevelle are TERRIBLE imo, like deftones and tool and diarrhea mixed together and filtered thru solidified vomit, god they sucked, thank god that didn't last long)

as far as everlong and BQUAD, it could either be coincidence or inspiration. i know there's been times when i write something and then realize the chords are very similar to something else, usually i will only continue to use those chords if i feel as though the song as a whole has it's own merits and is not just a "ripoff".  i think that both songs stand on their own though i of course prefer BQUAD.

that open e string chord sets the mood in both songs and the mood is pretty similar...and the "and i wonder while i sing along with you" part is all open e chords too - its the same idea. its the same mood, the tempo is about the same, and both songs have the same concept. everlong came first, earlier that year, and i just know the guys stole the ground idea. when i first heard it i was like "wow everlong with different vocal harmonies" its one thing to get influensed by something but chino and steph just took it too far that time

i don't see any similarities to everlong at all in bqad, besides the fact that they're both incredible songs. i bet they hadn't heard the song before they finished bqad. my guess is they heard everlong when it became a single(and it was the 2nd or 3rd single, atf was probably done by then), since foo fighters were never mentioned by any of them as an influence or fav. they don't rip bands off, they get ripped off. i never heard anything like bqad at the time

edit_ everlong was released aug 18, 1997 as a single. i bet they heard it around then like most people that didn't buy the album. ATF was easily done by then

after 2 pages we start to talk about stupid things when we hear anything new...

no maybe deftones lived under a rock during 1997.maybe. but then again.... maybe not. everlong was released as a single in august 1997, be quiet was released in late oct 97, and everyone here always yells about how fast atf was written so its not impossible.the structure and chords etc are very much alike and of course they dont mention foo fighters as influence, they SUCK and they surley are embarred for doing what they did. dai the flu is very much influensed byradiohead's "climbing up the walls" - also released that summer  but i guess u dont think they have heard radiohead either.  anyway, it was just one song they stole from foo fuckers so it aint that big of a deal

Hidalgo

it was writen and recorded and done well before aug 18 97. every album sits about 4 months after it's done, that's just how it works. besides, they don't sound alike anyway. they are both insanely awesome though

jesusinabowlofdirt

i just find the similarities too big to be a coincidence, when they dropped same year and all. i just dont know. but i agree the making of atf would be rather quick, perhaps quicker than everybody says ^^

Hidalgo

like i said, i see no similarities really. the guitars are way different and the vocals. it's just not there. come on now, listen closely to both songs again, they're quite different. now, chevelle i can see they were more than influenced by bqad on STPB

jesusinabowlofdirt

according to wikipedia foo fighters "The Colour and the Shape" with everlong on it was released in may 1997 so that would gave them time to rip it off. pick up an acoustic and play it, its about the same

yea ok, but did they buy the album then, or ever? signs lead to no(0 mentions of influence, or as a fav of any member, etc), they just really liked everlong when they heard it. most likely well after atf was finished. and the fact they sound nothing alike

jesusinabowlofdirt

as professional muscians at that time im pretty sure deftones had full control of what was going on out there. and deftones is suppose to pave the way, take left when everyone else is moving along so its much more remarkable when a band like deftones rip someone off than when a shitty garage band like chevelle does. i mean chevelles entire excistance is based on thievery

bodywars9000

i'm with hidalgo on this.
sorry jesusinabowlofdirt.
but at least we can all agree that Chevelle is total bullshit.

jesusinabowlofdirt

hehe its ok i dont even know who u are so i wont think much of your opinions because of that  ;)
