Can't believe Eros finally leaked. The material is absolutely incredible: dark, weird and beautiful. Old school tones but a step forward.
Even the more "upbeat" songs in terms of mood have something sad lurking in the background.
I fucking love the raw, underground, demo feel to it, for me there's nothing more that needs to be done to this material, It's perfect exactly as it is. It's like a mix of SNW and ST, while still sounding completely fresh and innovative.
It was better than I could ever have imagined or hoped or. It actually lived up to the myth!

I'd say the record is easily top 3 for me, right after adrenaline and the self titled.

Now, they should release this as a bundle — something like "Eros Sessions" or "Unfinished Eros Demos." etc - LP, CD, photos from the studio, T-shirt, whatever. Then SELL it. I'd honestly chip in a fortune just because it's that damn good
This should've been done a long time ago, but it's not too late!

I find that Brenda is the best song of this bunch. Once it shifts gears into the bridge/outro, it becomes like a sorrowful Cherry Waves.  Nothing like it.

I'm still undecided between Briana with OR without vocals. I think it's just a matter of the version I'm used to (no vocals).

Quote from: Kiss_me on Aug 28, 2026, 10:07 AMWhat are your thoughts about them playing these songs live? I was just thinking about the upcoming Dia De Los Deftones show and how the setlists tend to be more varied with them playing songs they haven't played in a while.

Some of the Eros songs are far more complete than others but they played Smile in 2019 and I think there is like 0,001% chance they could play it again. Apart from that I don't think they will ever play these songs live

They wouldn't play songs from Eros even if they didn't care about the leak, but they are NOT happy about it, so it will definitely, DEFINITELY not be happening.

It seems like there are different versions of Eros circulating. Take Melanie for example, in the old 2008 live versions you can clearly hear Frank's synths/effects coming in during the second chorus and onward.
On one studio recording from the Eros sessions, those synths are completely absent, while on another version, they are present. The melodies are the same as in the live versions, but the sound of the synths is different.

Is one of these versions fan-made, with the synths either removed or added, or are there actually different versions/mixes from the Eros sessions?

Hey there, SL. I'm posting because many of you had previously taken an interest in my Eros mixing and mastering project, and I've come with a significant update.

After living with v4 and v5 of my mixes for awhile, there remained a bunch of bothersome faults that stood out to me that were difficult to correct when operating from the local Demucs-generated stems that I created to mix/master my version of Eros. So I went hunting for a better technology to give myself the opportunity to start from better materials. I discovered RoFormer, and set up a local instance for generating stems that were of much greater clarity than what I had begun this project with initially.

RoFormer did incredible work, and it opened up quite a few doors in my mixing process, most of them involving where Frank lives within the mix. And this is precisely what I wanted, because while v5 of my Eros remix project was a really strong effort, it did not always succeed in respecting the pockets that Frank would ordinarily fill in a proper Deftones mix. I just couldn't get at those sonic materials because of the rough quality of my Demucs stems. RoFormer changed the game dramatically for my approach.

That said, I've completed a top-to-bottom rebuild of my mixes for every single track using my RoFormer-generated stems as a base. The result is v6, and it's deeply exciting for me, and I hope it'll be exciting for anyone who possesses an ear for the details while listening to a Deftones album. There are A LOT of changes both small and large that I made to my mixes based on the increased clarity of the RoFormer stems, and I won't catalog them all, but the highlights are mostly Frank-related, and his contributions to each song in which he's present should be more audible and detailed to the average listener.

Other noteworthy changes include stronger guitar articulation in a couple of the muddier songs, and the complete removal of the errant studio chatter at Margot's close (thus restoring the song's natural tail), as well as the removal of the errant hi-hats that pockmarked Diamond's closing synth line. I tried like hell to remove the little click-track ticks in Candy's opening, but I just couldn't pull that away from Frank's atmospheric contribution without obliterating the intro, so that remains a small annoyance that I'll just have to live with.

In all, v6 of my remix project represents another sizable leap toward refining the unmixed/unmastered Eros studio bounces into a proper album experience, and it comes with new high quality artwork (front and back) to mark the occasion. I've been proud of all the work I've accomplished throughout the summer as I've poured many dozens of man-hours into this project whenever I could squirrel away the free time, but I'm so immensely satisfied with where things stand currently. If you're interested, I've deleted all messages in my inbox, so I can receive PMs again; message me and I'll offer the link.
