"Entertain Me" leak - Special notice!

I've worked as a creative lead in Broadcast Television and Film in North America and have a few notes on why Entertain Me: A Film About Deftones was never released.

If you'll indulge me.

Errors and Omissions : Productions need legal insurance or releases for copyrighted material that they use for their work. So whether it's an ad agency paying Massive Attack via Virgin/EMI to use the song "Angel" in a car commercial, or even if they wanted someone to simply acapella the song in the commercial they would need expressed consent.

Entertain Me - Copyrighted materials
1. Prince & The Revolution: Go Crazy
2. Prince & The Revolution: The Beautiful Ones
3. Morrissey - Everyday is like Sunday

Note that Morrissey and Prince are both Megalomaniac's and there's no way in hell they'd entertain the notion of some Nu-Metal punk's rocking out to their music in a home movie release.

Besides this, the movie blatantly shows how hard that the record execs were being on the Deftones. In one scene, Chino is going off about how they gave him notes to not scream in the songs. At the Conan O'Brien show there's even an exec suggesting that Chino to "say" the words so he doesn't crack his voice when they play Back To School. Overall it makes the execs look like assholes - the same people who would have had the say if Entertain Me would be released.

Annnd finally, the petition that was made years ago where it was paraphrased that the label told Andrew Bennett the movie was "Dark and Depressing" just came off as a poor defamation of the label's integrity and I wouldn't be surprised if it had a negative effect on Bennett's working relationship with Maverick or Warner Bros. It all comes down to politics in this industry.

Just watched it and yeah it was kinda blah.
I wanted to squash Chino's mini piano thing, cos it fucking annoyed the hell out of me.
What I liked was to see the private things you normally would never see and it kinda gave me goosebumps to see Chino singing "Teenager" in the studio/on stage.
Besides that a lot of alcohol.
But it was like 12 years ago, my whole life changed a few times during that time and seeing Chi was really great and sad at the same time...

Yeah it is Andrew Bennett the director has the rights and he was super pissed it got leaked and I think Warner got involved last time as-well because they didn't want it released either and they're notorious for blocking content on YouTube.
