Back to the figure 8, and the snake swallowing its tail. That's also a sign of death. Deftones have delved into death before and I'm thinking that means a lot of things which makes it interesting.
Was thinking about Bowie's last record and  on his last record one of the signs from the album art I believe was a figure 8 sideways and it meant death....

Noice! Yeah for some reason, that didn't occur to me while I was posting that but yes. It's death and rebirth and transformation. I like to think of it as a transformation which would mean they will stick around or even a rebirth. Chino has used all these three words so many times though so it's either recycled or whatever. Whatever we want to think until we get to digest the record. But I'm pretty sure the figure being a serpent or dragon swallowing its tail means the same to both artists. Pretty fucking cool. Thanks man.

I would put money on it that we get the name Lazarus somewhere in this record. Jesus resurrected him. He died and was reborn. Yeah that's all I have on that lol but I just get this feeling looking at the parallels between the two artists and the whole "serpent eating itself". Call it what you want...im just trying to throw something interesting out there other than "where is the album?" Lol somebody's gotta be that guy. I'm stoked as all getout just like y'all! anybody have any opinions on this or thoughts? Is anybody familiar? I don't particularly listen to the last David Bowie record, but he's been a part of my life my whole life and throughout my parents life. And when I seen that first post/picture of the snake eating its tail that's where I went in my head

i wasn't going to make an account, but fuck it, i can't lurk anymore. i've been thinking way too much about this and there's basically no place to theorize on stuff like this outside of here.

the private music deftones logo is a snake tongue. snakes are THE equilibrium animal -- they represent both masculine and feminine energies/symbolism through the tail and head. they represent life and are associated with birth due to how many eggs a snake typically lays and how devoted snake mothers are to incubating their broods.

as you said, ouroboros ("snake swallowing its tail") represents the cycle of life and death, but also rebirth and by extension immortality through the continuous cycle of death leading to life leading to death etc. they also represent the world at large by essentially acting as its container or barrier in multiple cultures' legends of how the world is built/works (think jormungandr in norse mythos, shesha in hinduism, or quetzalcoatl in aztec mythos). they ultimately represent a source of everything we know of, which i think ties into the tracks "infinite source" and "departing the body" based off of the titles.

abe also hinted at the snake theme months before private music was officially name dropped if you look at his bass drum in shows from the beginning of this year. i find it hard to believe someone didn't mention that in here by now, but i only started to check the thread consistent around page 120 so if that is the case i probably missed it.

I agree.. in an age where everything is spoiled before it comes out. It's nice knowing next to nothing about this album. Though I feel that might change next week once reviews and stuff start coming out.

Which is why I'm hoping it leaks this weekend because we can hear it truly unspoiled and almost zero insight into what we can expect..

Earlier I was thinking at this point, I'd take all of us joining a discord server or twitch stream and listening to it once and let that be it. Sort of like a listening party.. Could be kinda cool.  As an option if anyone had the album but didn't want to rip it and fully leak it to the entire internet.
