Fuck yes. I'm at the same time trying to practice discipline with a couple things. And I'm not doing this because of that other thing. It's because I've never done it with this band. Not 100% anyways.

I've listened to leaks before. I did with SNW and a couple more records. Not like they ruined the experience for me. This time tho, I just decided to hear it laying down on my couch with headphones on. Nothing more. Im glad to read so many positive 1st impressions. IDK if this is the adrenaline kicking in for new Deftone stuff or not but it doesnt matter.

Hands down my favorite record since Chi has passed. My heart was racing for most of it. I cannot believe how much I just enjoyed that!

Goddamn, I love this band so much. But I really have not loved the last two records. I'm so happy that this one was so much more solid. Good for them. Even if this is the last Deftones record, I just enjoyed the shit out of that. And I'm happy I got to experience that musical joy that only my favorite band can give!

I've actually respected your opinion over the years and that makes me so excited to hear it. Good for you man put another post up in the next few days or more. I'll be watching everything because it's good discipline for me right now and I'm quitting alcohol at the same time which is crazy.

Thanks bro. I appreciate that. Yeah once again the last two records something was just missing for me. I think mainly with Stephen and Chino. Abe always shines IMO. But this one really felt different to me. Definitely my favorite record in a long time. It's definitely a combination of all of their previous records into one with a new fresh and experimental take on all of it. Some killer groove and killer tempo changes and the last 10 minutes is the record is just 10/10.

I really feel like this record will get some solid reviews and the music world will really enjoy it. I'm excited for them. They deserve it. Sober Chino killed it this time. I'm sober myself so I'm really happy for him. I know how hard it is. There's a freshness in his voice this time.

I am actually really liking that he doesn't scream a lot on the album. The screams sound calculated, and his voice has so much room to just groove, which this album rides on.

Gore and Ohms sounded really forced to me, almost like a soulless version of Deftones, but this new album is what I was waiting since Diamond Eyes.

listened to the first 3 tracks so far.

transcription's gonna take a minute due to the mixing, but i REALLY like how the mixing sounds on these. particularly, ecdysis gave me "oblivion" from grimes vibes of all things (?!?!?) and i really fuck with infinite source's riff and mixing.

i thought i was gonna be giving a bit of a hot take. relieved someone else hears it 😅

Like M83 oblivion vibes? If so, I'm pretty sure they did the soundtrack to that movie or at least the main intro outro.

...not quite. i meant grimes' oblivion -- the intro is similarly very techy and bouncy and odd in a very entrancing way.

Speaking of artists I wish would drop a new album. I'm interested to see where Grimes go next

That is exactly what I'm going to do. Eat a gummy or two while the family is in Gatlinburg for 2 1/2 days which is perfect. All I have to remember is to take my dogs out and feed them which is really crazy. It's just a perfect timing. I have a full family schedule usually this just worked out perfect. Last time I had a gummy was probably three or four months ago. That's why I'm holding out probably.

Welp, we're here. We did it. Welcome to all you new names! You'll never have any idea how long the long-timers were suffering and coping in this thread waiting for this moment lol.

I can't really make any kind of declarations yet of where I'd rank it in their discography, but I will say its one of their more cohesive albums, for sure. I've been kind of missing that since DE, a collection of songs that really all fit together like a glove.

agreed. being sober takes a lot of willpower and self-control. you can tell in concert footage that chino really seems to be enjoying himself -- big smiles, interacting with the crowd more, hopping and bouncing and flapping all over the stage. very good signs!
