Deftones - private music (Album Thread)

It is far too soon for me to rank. I've only listened 4 times. The best word that I can use to describe the new album is "Magnificent". It's very good. I just need more time to process it.

I like that more or less half of the album consists of songs that are instant earworms, and the other half doesn't click immediately. More meat to chew on, the songs that don't click in an instant mostly turn out to be favorites in the end, while the instant earworms remain good but I grow tired of more quickly.

Compared to Ohms which I felt like I knew through and through after two listens. This is definitely some deeper shit.

The happier sounds remind me a lot of the middle section of Gore, not gonna lie, but of course with much better production.

All in all after two listens it feels like a very varied record with again much to learn as a listener still. It also sounds very cohesive, which I always like in a record.

Done listening to album. Despite the short duration there's indeed a lot to unpack. It very much feels like old-school and modern Deftones blending together, one second it's giving me KNY vibes, the next it reminds me of Adrenaline. Cut Hands in particular took me aback, this is old school nu metal straight up. For a band of metalheads in their fifties, they really don't sound tired. It's almost like they're fighting a midlife crisis, and winning.
I don't think this is gonna bring Vesanic back here necessarily, but I think most people are gonna enjoy this record.

I enjoy the album a lot. The world isn't suddenly different now that Private Music is out, but I'm quite happy about this record, being a fan of old-school Deftones and modern Deftones alike. Some tracks to me were instant bangers, some are growing on me.

Current favorites for me are Milk of the Madonna, Cut Hands and Departing the Body.
