15 years, bloody hell. I remember them putting it up a few days early to stream on the NME site. Didn't feel it on first listen and adored it by the third.

I'd like that. Ohms didn't have enough of it but then again it wasn't that kind of album.

I have a prediction that at least 1/3 of the new tones album will be "softer" songs  like Sextape, cherry waves, beauty school, etc.

I don't usually put too much on any band's descriptions of or expressed feelings about their new album. But Stef's not one to overhype something, so when he says, 'The whole record, in total, is amazing,' I trust that at the very least he is really happy with it. And that has me quietly excited.

Sleep token fucking sucks
Pop music with drop -M tuning breakdowns. Now loathe on the other hand top 3 favorite
1 deftones
2 pantera
3 loathe
Now look I appreciate sleep token and what they've done for people and happy they make others happy, but holy shit the music is ass, it's like Taylor swift and Sam Smith had a baby and threw in cannibal corpse as the step dad, and it sounds like the singer sounds like he's having a stroke every time he sings

No hate, just truth from me  ;)

Quote from: Inkblades on May 02, 2025, 05:44 PMA lot of them actually don't sound like Deftones (people act like Thornhill are the second coming of Deftones lmao, don't get that at all) but tell me the :57 second mark isn't a dead ringer for Chino:

It's an imitation for sure, but a pretty damn impressive one IMO.
"White Hot" is my favorite song to come out of this entire subset of bands with heavy Deftones inspiration. Such a great track!

I think Thornhill does a good job at sounding distinct enough from Deftones, most of the time. First album was more metalcore, 2nd reminded me a lot of Stabbing Westward actually. Newest album has some heavily inspired Deftones tracks I quite like, but also feels like generic nu-metal at times as well. Basically I *love* Loathe, I *like* Thornhill but most other Deftones-esque bands bore me to tears.

I also agree with LG95 about Sleep Token. I mean, I guess I understand the appeal. People act like they are so revolutionary though. Their music sounds so ham-fisted to me. I am really happy for the people that enjoy it though. Maybe I am just "old man screaming at the kids on the lawn" these days.

Finally and most important: Steph. So glad he doing better now. We all knew something was up with him but glad to know he has decided to make changes. Aging sucks. One Love everyone

Doesn't sound like that was what delayed it, but who knows...
I hope he takes care of himself, reading that sorta scared me, probably just exhausted after all the recording/touring.

If Steph is calling it "amazing" that makes me feel very optimistic about the new album.

Asked Stephen today about his writing approach for this record and if he had a favorite song at this point.

He said the whole record is amazing, and he said he struggled (or in his own words dealt with) with his health in the process and went through lower points where he was exhausted. He said that while recording his scratch and also his final tracks there was a point where his arm just didn't work, and his shoulder was just blown out (cause exhaustion) while recording the former. He said it's a miracle he recorded his scratch tracks first in time so they could keep working. He summed it up saying he was falling apart and it was terrible.

He thinks its due to how sereditary he was during covid, and he decided to change things this year.
