My guess is they stick to their now established pattern...probably start writing in 2027/28 and release an album in 29/30.

Personally if I was in their camp I'd encourage them at their age to write as much new music as possible. I think Chino said that although Private Music from start to finish was like a good two and a half years, the writing sessions put together were only like a month or so.

To me, they could comfortably put out a really good record every couple of years, but I understand their desire to not create tight schedules for themselves at this stage of their career.

They seem to be pretty rejuvenated. KNY came two years after DE... and I'm sure the label would like to cash in on it.

Deftones / 11th Album ?
Last post by Moana91 - Mar 14, 2026, 08:45 AM
Do you guys think it will happen?

If so, realistically speaking, when would the guys start writing the earliest in your estimation, based on the band's past timeframes?

There's a lot of talk about retirement on other corners of the internet, but seems unlikely given the wave of popularity they've been riding, right?

Retirement... Maybe. But Deftones were never some garage band anomaly that suddenly "made it" to Warner. They've been in the major-label ecosystem since the mid-90s through Maverick, which operated under Warner Music Group. This isn't an indie band crossing over, it's a legacy act continuing within the same corporate structure. Big budgets, global distribution, MTV era push, they were industry-backed long before TikTok rediscovered them. Their 2003 self-titled album is even listed among the 13 most expensive albums ever recorded, showing how much label capital was already behind them.

What changed now isn't the system around them, it's the royalties. The TikTok driven surge simply raised the market value of something that was already heavily institutionalized, at a moment when the catalog itself was surging in popularity. In a market where music assets can trade at 12–18× multiples, selling the royalty stream now just locks in that peak demand.

For the band, it turns decades of streaming era volatility, even from chaff albums like Private Music, into immediate liquidity. The band locks in the lump sum. In the end, this isn't about legacy, it's about converting decades of royalties into cash today.
