This is just my humble opinion... but I think the album is bad.

It obviously sounds very incomplete, but still...

Can't believe this is where they were creatively after SNW...

I fully agree with you it should not have been leaked and the band should have decided, this is a mess.

What I don't agree with, respectfully, is the material is bad. There are total gems here, Melanie is RatsRatsRats with an earworm chorus, Trempest is a top10 Deftones song. Apart from these two heavy songs, the rest is their most mellow and melancholic material (Destiny, Brenda, Candy; Brianna with the vocals is beautiful!). Sable is a low-key banger. I don't think they ever repeated this melancholic mood on the later albums.

However, if they released it, it might have ended their career. The album would eventually be as revered as SNW by the todays younger fans, but in 2009 it would be a career game over. I'm super impressed they were able to come up with Diamond Eyes with a totally revamped sound and approach.

Came back here after 14 years just to say I now agree with the band that Eros is not a great album. There are gems, sure but overall it was a great decision to start over to release Diamond Eyes instead. I'm wondering how the songs would have sounded with a proper mastering though.

Nah, they was in they bag when they wrote Trempest haha. I also dig Diamond. I think you can hear the residue of Team Sleep's influence on that track. It reminds me of the demos Team Sleep used to drop on MySpace. Brenda has some sweet moments. All in all, it of course sounds incomplete. Portions or half of ideas. As a long time die hard, it's a bittersweet day. Let's face it, if it didn't leak, we probably wouldn't have ever heard it.
