I just came back home from visiting 6 different places trying to find an early copy (this is GrubbethThyBum from the discord). Three record shops, 2 targets, and a Barnes and Noble. Unfortunately I found nothing. But even if I came back empty handed, it was a fun adventure and I'm glad to do my little part for the community 🫡

Far away

So souvenir is like pompeji 4 and a half minutes of calm and heavy, and a 2 minute synth outro...

Okay okay awesome?!?!!?

"Mellotron like synths" at the end of souvenir, likely the 2025 NA tour interlude.

My Mind Is a Mountain," the album's first single and opener, gets straight to the point. Nothing to build up to, the song delivers a punch from the start. Carpenter liberally delivers his signature bouncy power chords , and Moreno already delivers a few powerful punches. The heavy opening riff of "Locked Club" adds fuel to his incendiary parlando, and the dreamy chorus is vintage Deftones.

Challenging song titles are a trademark of the band. A few examples: "Feiticeira," "Pittura infamante," and the instrumental "U, U, D, D, L, R, L, R, A, B, Select, Start." The grand prize on this record goes to "Ecdysis," which simply means "molting" in Dutch. The first few bars strongly hint at Moreno's side project Crosses ; after the bleeps and pokes , a wonderfully deep bass rolls in. Like a spider molting, the song unfolds into a riff-o-rama with a wonderfully catchy chorus.

Opening dance
In "Infinite Source," drummer Abe Cunningham once again demonstrates his mastery of less is more, while Moreno's dreamy vocals float on a pulsating bass and perfectly controlled guitar swell. "Souvenir" continues in the same vein. For a moment, we think: the middle of the album is more for shoegazers than metalheads, but then, amidst the ethereal notes, a beast of a riff erupts. Hitting, soothing, and hitting again, as only Deftones
can. After four and a half minutes, mellotron-like synths gently accompany you until "cXz," which immediately bursts like a blister after the Dodentocht.

Moreno wrote the basis for "I Think About You All the Time" while strumming his guitar on Malibu beach after a morning swim. The song is as soft as it is dynamic, and we wouldn't be surprised if it pops up on a couple's first dance list, which would certainly be a first for Deftones.

Then, the second single, "Milk of the Madonna," immediately shifts up a gear with its wildly rolling riffs. "Holy ghost. I'm on fire." You bet, Chino. What! A! Song! "Cut Hands" is another outright blunder, perhaps the most striking nod to older work on this album. "Metal Dream" emphasizes the second word in the title. Did we mention that Deftones excels at wonderfully dreamy songs that still pack a powerful punch? The wonderfully drawn-out closer, "Departing The Body," proves that once again.

Thanks for posting that in the thread Dawn, appreciate you!

This thread is officially about to surpass the number of pages for Ohms thread, a large number of which were just discussing the album after it already came out. The hype for this one is something else for sure.

DAWNOFWAR, I mentioned recently that I listened to be sides and rarities for the first time in years. Have you heard that one yet? There's some covers and some B sides and Collabs on it. They literally prove they're the best cover band with Lynyrd Skynyrd's simple man. And others. If you haven't gotten that one yet, do it right now!

Thank you very much, sounds awesome!

It sounds very accordion like. Guess who else likes accordion? Robert Smith. Just saying. I remember him writing a little jingle fucking around about his ex Celeste. I think it was in entertain me. Did it sound like you could hear some voices in the audio at the very end before Chino started strumming? Maybe the intro to the next track? Thanks for posting by the way.

Some of you mentioned some memories in the past about the ramp up to a new record here on sharing lungs and how it was, do y'all remember talking endlessly about entertain me? ;D That shit was psycho if I remember right. All the rumors about whether he could release it and whether it was finished and yada yada yada. I was just as hyped for that as I have been for any of their records ever and we got at least some of it because I don't believe that was all of it Myself. Sorry for not posting this in the bullshit thread......"wheres my fans? Im jumping...Im gonna jump! " that was gnarly, considering it looked like he could've fucked himself up, landing off of that lifeguard shack
