Quote from: Troa on Jun 24, 2026, 11:39 PMApparently, the original lossless wav files from the album leaked.

Briana is actually dated January 11th, 2009 instead of September 29th, 2008.

Instrumental and acapella for Trempest also leaked.

Just wanted to say thanks again, but your box is full, so I'll say it here.
The url is working now. Just saw your pm with the info... really interesting stuff. I'm guessing Crest will show up at some point soon.

Steftone don't sound like he gives a flying fuck.
Lol what's this dude talking about with the songs being on YouTube for a while? All I know was Smile and the instrumental for Brianna

Baylock

Honestly, to me? The album was basically ready for release, despite what any of the guys have said in the past; the only song that actually sounded unfinished was Candy (due to the minor guitar presence), and even then, it's still good as is. If this debacle ends up inspiring the guys to officially release it at some point, it wouldn't take much to shine it up even further.

Yeah it doesn't sound like he's been clued in to what has actually come out and is misremembering or blurring it together with other leaks, though to be fair they are sessions from 20 years ago that he possibly hasnt looked at since then, if I were in his position I probably wouldn't even remember any details about the songs or how many there were.

That's coming from a person who's not been obsessing with this stuff for almost 20 years. They're musicians, they always have some demos cooking. Of course he forgets.

As for Chino's wife's answer, I'm not so sure. She did not elaborate on things. The fact some shady person was trying to sell the material sure is unfuckingbelievable. Are they against the fans listening to it? They didn't say it. After almost 40 years in the business they gotta be prepared that a recording of him singing in the shower might end up on the internet and the fans will still think it's a banger.

Quote from: Draken on Jun 23, 2026, 03:13 AMKinda odd this happened two days after Chino's birthday. I really want to hear what the band has to say about it.
my theory is that he was also under this move, like that time with Smile
This is most certainly not from the band
Nah, I never thought it was from Chino or the band. This would be a stupid way to share that material with fans. Maybe someone that works with the band in some capacity, or more likely someone who works for WB. Just sucks it happened around his birthday.

We've heard from his wife now, you can bet the band is fucking pissed. I'm just very bummed about it tbh. I mean, I've been wanting to hear this material for 18 years... that's fucking crazy. Now, they're definitely never going to revisit the album, but I didn't think they would anyways, so as a fan I couldn't help myself. My girlfriend and I listened to it last night. Very bittersweet, just wanted to hear Chi again. I am very sorry to the band this happened, I personally won't feel right to contribute to it spreading on the internet but I won't judge anyone else for doing so. It is what it is.

Actually same here. I still didnt listen to it. Its getting difficult.

I wrestled with whether or not to listen to the tracks. Mainly just out of respect for Chi. But then I decided, you know what, I'll listen to one track at random just to get the "flavor" of it.

That was a mistake, as the randomly selected song was Candy.

Holy shit.

Needless to say, I've listened to the entire album about 5 times now. Sure, it could be recency bias, but pretty sure Melanie and Candy, and are top tier Deftones tracks. I'd argue to say Candy is better than anything on Gore or Ohms.

Also...is everyone else assuming the end of Electra eventually morphed/evolved into the ending to Royal?

DefFsho

If anyone is feeling generous, I wouldn't mind a link to hear this stuff. Longtime member here I would actually love a link. ;)  Thank you in advance.

I'm getting more influence from Beware vibes from it, instead of an evolution into Royal. That's just me though.

I don't really think any riffs here directly moved to future albums-- like had been claimed before the leak. However, certain creative choices started here, like Steph playing upper register solo-type melodies and more lumbering, simple riffs.

To me, the only things they put on future material would be taking the R out of Trempest and using the word Diamond.

After the third listen I kinda get Rocket Skates vibes off Electra's chorus.

By the way, what's that talk at the end of Margot? Like, was it intended or someone literally talked during the recording lol.

this album is a weird multidimensional fever dream, it's so bizarre this wasn't a part of my life fifteen years ago cause cause it would've felt right at home. sucks for the lads it got pushed out like this and can't even imagine what it feels like to basically have someone rip out pages from your musical diary (and sell it at that) but god damn man it's good shit

18 years in the making, and we finally hear it. very unexpected. it sounds about exactlty how Chino described it. 80% music done, 50% vocals done. you can tell some of these vocals are just melody fillers, rough ideas. but the album is far far closer to complete than the old bob ezrin demos, with really really rough vocals on only a few tracks. every track here has vocals, and somewhat mixed sounding. i've only heard it once. about to listen to it again in a little while. this is wild that it leaked, and the tracks all have vocals

was there also a b-side from ohms released? cause i could never find it
(gore b-side?)

Draken

Agree it's some good shit.

I see how band says it needs work but damn is it some classic Deftones. Most of the tracks could be worked out a little, mixed, mastered and I'd be happy. I think it's Chino who was most unhappy with how it was in it's present state.

And I respect others' opinions and all but everyone talking about how great Candy is, Why

That's some self restraint right there, gawd damn.

So have you listened to it yet?

chino doesn't want the material out, and i respect that given the circumstances. however, i wouldn't say that's true of every member. i haven't and will likely never listen to eros. i think it's a damn shame how it made it to the internet and i got a bad vibe from that guy the second i noticed him on here.

I get what you are saying, but even in those interviews Abe says it needs a lot of work before it would be released officially. Clearly that work has not happened.

oh, i agree that the album was leaked in an unfinished state. i'm just saying that of the band members who didn't want eros to come out, chino was the most vocal of them. like i said, it's a damn shame it got leaked like this and i'm not listening to it.

if the forum decides on a charity to donate to in cheng's name, i'd happily donate. like B_S_79 said,

Quote from: B_S_79 on Jun 24, 2026, 07:29 PMDonating to a charity and sending money to the band are two completely different fucking things.

The Reddit group didn't take kindly to my suggestion. I donated to UC Davis Children's Hospital in the name of the band and Chi..  the same charity the band ran a charity drive for back during Ohms. "Adopt a Dot" from the Ohms album cover.

Got accused of virtue signaling and was told to do my research before donating and I was an idiot for choosing the children's hospital.

TLDR fuck Reddit. lol. Sticking to SL from here on out.

yeah, the subreddit is...unfortunately very reddity. reddit used to be a semi-helpful place for asking questions but over time it just got very nasty. i felt like i could never predict when someone would go at me for something i didn't even anticipate would be contentious to say or do.

i mostly lurk and observe just about everywhere when it comes to the band because sometimes i find info i haven't seen or heard elsewhere (usually magazine scans lol), but on reddit and tiktok specifically it can be a real cesspit sometimes. on here and on tumblr is where i tend to find the most informed/mature fans. i actually found out about the leak through people posting about it on the deftones tag on tumblr! from there i knew this would be the place to see if it was true lol

Haven't listened either apart from a couple of clips someone shared with me

The songs on Eros are a reminder of how magical and unique the Deftones were.  Deftones 2.0 (DE and after) are a weird, nearly unrecognizable shadow of their former selves.  I can't think of a single song on DE or after that sounds like the band I grew up on.  Eros captures that magic and is a beautiful reminder.  Despite my harsh words for Deftones 2.0, it is remarkable that DE sprung from the band within a year or two following Eros.  I think part of this change is due to age, the Cheng incident's effect on them, the addition of Sergio, and something cosmic beyond our comprehension.  Despite not caring for the Deftones 2.0 sound, which all I can say is disturbingly straight-forward, uninteresting, and sometimes contrived, I can't deny it's what they needed to continue and to reach a commercial high that they are currently enjoying and deserved for so long.  I just wish it had come sooner.
