Quote from: DefFsho on Jun 25, 2026, 07:58 PMThis is probably the biggest thing to ever happen on this forum. There's still a few names lurking around this place that I remember from those 2007 2008 days when they were dropping those I think weekly clips in the studio making this record. That one evil sounding jam that Chi and Steph were working on, I wish made this record. Also was really hoping to hear what Frank's work on that clip where he's playing that really weird synth electronic sound turned out to be, but it didn't make the cut. Would've been a sweet intro. But of course they've done 1 million things We've never heard that would b great to hear and see...Just like anything else. I'm surprised that a few of those older members haven't reacted to this yet to be honest. Who's the guy who had the little thumbnail picture of a stick man pissing in a dirty toilet? He was a dick but hilarious !!!  I'm glad I got to hear it, but I do get that it sucks in a way, but art is made to share. It wasn't shared correctly. But it was shared, and we are all enjoying it don't lie.
Many many old names have come back.  Penicks, Pixelsblur, Far Away, etc. - many from the earliest 2004 days.

Regarding the "evil" riff, if we're thinking of the same clip, then that would be Trempest.

Edit: referring to this clip: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-hywI1emDHk

Edit 2: you're prob referring to this clip, i agree it does not appear to be in the leak: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Rn_OT-Jh4Y

I hear it now. So weird. I just had that small part in my head for almost 20 years and then I hear the whole thing and can't hear it and then I post about it! Lmao

Frank always shines in the demos. I wish they would leave him alone more often especially back then. Or maybe it would do these last five albums a little bit better also. I will always think that the first six (including Eros) records versus the last five records are two different bands. They lost that spark after Chi imo. Eros is that last bit of greatness (a certain thing) for myself. Chino really reminded me of just that with his recordings on this one. So raw. I understand the work that they have to do to polish him up in these later years, but what a treat it is to hear him like that on that record. The best and last great screams are there!  And I love the punk attitude on a couple of those tracks and the trip hop on  Trempest is ridiculous in a really great way.

Quote from: Draken on Jun 23, 2026, 03:13 AMKinda odd this happened two days after Chino's birthday. I really want to hear what the band has to say about it.
my theory is that he was also under this move, like that time with Smile
This is most certainly not from the band
Nah, I never thought it was from Chino or the band. This would be a stupid way to share that material with fans. Maybe someone that works with the band in some capacity, or more likely someone who works for WB. Just sucks it happened around his birthday.

We've heard from his wife now, you can bet the band is fucking pissed. I'm just very bummed about it tbh. I mean, I've been wanting to hear this material for 18 years... that's fucking crazy. Now, they're definitely never going to revisit the album, but I didn't think they would anyways, so as a fan I couldn't help myself. My girlfriend and I listened to it last night. Very bittersweet, just wanted to hear Chi again. I am very sorry to the band this happened, I personally won't feel right to contribute to it spreading on the internet but I won't judge anyone else for doing so. It is what it is.

Sometimes these types of leaks actually end up pushing the band to release things commercially, so don't lose all hope. Case in point, radiohead sold the full mini disc demos on bandcamp after someone leaked it.
ALso SOAD did the same with "Steal this album..."
So, the fact that the songs seems to be already registered or copyrighted could hint that this would happen sooner or later

Yes yes, Deftones, yes yes, heavy metal, yes yes, nü metal, yes yes, fucking queer, yes yes...

Baylock

Melanie is amazing; I love the rage and general energy. Sable and Diamond easily have the most captivating guitars on the album, and Margot and Briana are compelling lower-key numbers. Really, it's just easier to say that I love basically every song except for Trempest and Brenda; they do absolutely nothing for me.

For my own personal tastes, this is among the top of their work... and I can say that with a clear mind as a relatively newer fan (I've been listening to them for two years, so I won't blow smoke in that regard) who wasn't around in the lead up or aftermath of the recording of it. I've known of what happened and hoped this would eventually see the light of day, and for what it is, it's excellent work.

This really does deserve an official release, and I'd love to have it in my collection.

That second clip was always my favorite of the Eros teasers. It just felt so mean.

Quote from: E-Money on Jun 25, 2026, 09:05 PMWhat a wild week guys! Well, I definitely have mixed feelings about all this, but I'm really glad we got to finally hear it because I'm not sure if we ever would have.

It's such a shame that Chi was in his accident. Hearing this music just makes me think of where they could've taken this record if they had more time to complete it and all of the beautiful music that we've missed out on without the original lineup.

Not saying that, I am not totally appreciative for the last 20 years because I absolutely am. But it's just hard not to wonder....

Abe's playing on this is absolutely beautiful. The end of Diamond absolutely Soars and Candy is beautiful.

It definitely sounds like a more experimental album. There's some really cool ideas on this and it could've been a killer record.

RIP Chi ❤️

They definitely had lightning in a bottle those years. I really think as the years went on Chino decided to keep it shelved because of the lore around it. It obviously wasn't about money. Imagine you're in a band and you have a record your whole fan base and even your new fan base learns about and everybody wants it and you have control of it and it keeps your band with more mystique. And it keeps people on their toes like myself always looking for news about it and consuming any little thing mentioned about it. And then it's gone and not on your call. Fuck this is hard. This is really hard. But I'm glad I get to listen to this shit before I'm gone. I swear this is up there with the good days in my life. It's somewhere in there. It kind of makes me think two more really good things are about to happen if you know you know.

the synth that frank plays in one of those clips reminds me a lot of the outro of pittura infamante/intro to xenon. not the same rhythm but the sound of the synth itself

I do know for certain that Chino did not want anybody to hear Margot. 🤣That is noises and sounds to make the landscaping for a melody. I'm sure everybody hears that because I can't make out any words really other than the name Margot a few times I think. Could just be my brain interpreting that sound with the title. But yeah, there's a few things on this unfinished record I'm sure he's not proud of that everybody's hearing. And yes, Melanie is fucking amazing. That's one of my jams right there of all jams. Anyone else have the thought that we will probably never know the lyrics to any of this? The ones that are done with solid lyrics, we will still have to interpret is my thinking.

I know what you're talking about. The one in the clip was otherworldly sounding like if you just stepped out of a spacecraft and felt or seen life around you.😬 seemed like an awesome theme or backdrop in someway for that record, even without hearing any of it, but it seemed to go with all the other stuff we heard back then.

SomeOf

Wow. It feels so strange. I've got mixed feelings. It's like going back in time, to a distant world. I'm a bit lost for words.

i saw there's a thread where people are already trying to transcribe lyrics for the songs. if transcriptions ever get more solidified, i'm eager to see how things tie into the lyrics on the other albums since i've been working on a lyric motif tracing project for deftones' music for quite some time now. i have a version i did of just private music tracks (and of course i used that as a skeleton of sorts for the complete discography tracing), but there are motifs that show up in multiple albums outside of private music that i still need to format into the larger project.

i combed through potential lyrics for every track someone posted in one of the eros threads and i was already seeing a lot of connections there...👀
